DON’T CHOOSE A HEALTH COVERAGE PLAN...BUILD IT! Becky Brown is a Field Sales Leader for USHEALTH Advisors. She offices in Tulsa and specializes in innovative life and health coverage solutions for selfemployed individuals, families, small business owners and their employees. “The health coverage plans we offer are quite unique. Instead of presenting our clients with a selection of hard and fast plans and asking them to select the one which best fits their needs,” says Becky, “we ask our customers to tell us what they feel they need. We then make recommendations and write a plan which addresses their concerns. “Many customers begin with plan basics and add to it as their lives change over the years. Our plan designs are flexible to help you get
the coverage you need, when you need it…and at a premium you can afford.” As you grow older or conditions change, USHEALTH Advisors will assist you in choosing optional supplemental coverage to enhance your overall protection in areas including, for example, Critical Illness*, Accident*, Dental*, Accident Disability Income*, Life Insurance* and Vision Insurance*. Becky and her expert team of advisors underwrite healthcare coverage through company subsidiaries, Freedom Life Insurance Company of America and National Foundation Life Insurance Company. “Our mission is the acronym H.O.P.E., Helping Other People Everyday,” she said. Consultations are free and may be conducted by phone or in person. Most businesses and individuals today are concerned by increasing healthcare costs. Becky’s confidence is in knowing that her organization is different
and that her team is innovative, experienced, dependable, dedicated and convenient to residents in the greater Tulsa area. When you call for information, you’ll be talking person-to-person rather than to a machine. “My goal,” continued Becky, “is to make your plan better than what you’ve previously had. And if I can’t provide you with a better plan, I’ll tell you to stay where you are, give you advice or steer you to someone who I feel can help with the specific needs you’ve outlined. “Please don’t let others tell you what you need. Tell me what you’re looking for and what will work for you. I’ll listen and write your policy to fill that need. As your needs grow, we can add to your original plan.” Call today to arrange for your personal consultation. TENACIOUS TERMITES! BY MACY GOODNIGHT
W
hen the temperature in Oklahoma begins to warm, you might notice clouds of small insects swarming about in your yard. You may choose to dismiss the sight as a mere annoyance, but there could very likely be a more severe problem looming just out of sight. Termite swarms are the dark cloud of a potentially dangerous storm of destruction in your home if left untreated. The family at Mother Nature Pest Control have been working to help homeowners battle the bugs for 42 years. Vice president, Shelia Jean and sales representative, Taylor Reed, stress prevention as the best deterrent for damaging termites. “You really want to make sure that you have something in place before you see the termite swarms,” said Taylor. “Once you see the swarms, it’s usually too late. They could already have caused damage to your home.” Mother Nature experts are Certified Specialists in the use of the Sentricon System with Always Active Technology, a series of baited traps, strategically placed around the home, to ensure that termites meet their demise. This scientifically designed system is the No. 1 brand in termite protection. The Sentricon system is superior to toxic poisons that are not only dangerous to people and pets but only treat the termites that cross its 10

path. The system effectively uses baited capsules buried around the perimeter of a home or business. Any termites in the vicinity will take the bait and deliver it back to the queen and the colony, ultimately killing them all. “A termite colony can be 5 feet below the ground,” said Taylor. “You have to be able to eliminate the colony to ensure total protection of your home.” Termites are very common woodeating insects that can cause billions of dollars in damage to homes across the U.S. A colony of termites can range in number of a few hundred to enormous societies of several million. “Detection of termites can be tricky,” said Shelia. “Usually once they are noticed, it’s when damage has already been done. If you have issues with moles or gophers in your yard, this could be an indication that you have termites,” said Shelia. “Termites are a big food source for them.” Mole control is also offered. Now is the time to get the Sentricon System into place, before the arrival of spring and the ensuing swarms begin. To provide the best possible service, Mother Nature offers a 21-point inspection for termites and other pests. They recommend inspections annually. “It’s almost the same as going to the doctor for a yearly physical,” said Taylor. “It’s just as important to make sure that your home is healthy and protected.”

“It’s almost the same as going to the doctor for a yearly physical,” said Taylor. “It’s just as important to make sure that your home is healthy and protected.” Mother Nature expertise is available in all areas of pest control in addition to termites, including bedbugs. These nasty critters have been making the news lately as a growing problem for many. It is a myth that they are only found in beds, as they can be found on furniture, carpet and even toys. “They can attach themselves to anything,” said Shelia, “which make them a big nuisance for anyone who travels.” Shelia advises caution when purchasing used merchandise as this is a common way for them to spread. Once they are detected in the home, the elimination process entails thorough treatment and follow up. “It can be a nightmare for people, and it can happen to anyone,” said Shelia. “We can help eliminate them quickly.” In addition to pest control services, Mother Nature is also a trusted name for lawn care, providing weed control and fertilizing.

I Make A Difference.
“I am blessed to have had a job that I truly enjoy coming to do every day for over 34 years now. I have helped people obtain goals that others thought were impossible for them to obtain. You just can’t put a price on that. I make a difference in people’s lives that I work with, but they have also had a huge impact on mine. I am a much better person being a part of their journey.”

The manner hypnosis is typically shown in movies, television and media is far from reality. It’s often portrayed as somewhere between magic and mysticism, but is actually neither. Hypnotherapy is largely accepted today as effective treatment by progressive hospitals and medical providers. “It has taken centuries for medical hypnosis to regain credibility,” says Penn State psychology professor William Ray. “In the 1950s, reliable measures of hypnotizability were developed, which allowed this research field to gain validity. We’ve seen more than 12,000 articles on hypnosis published since then in medical and psychological journals. Today, there’s general agreement that hypnosis can be an important part of treatment for some conditions, including phobias, addictions and chronic pain.” From an article in the New York Times, “Numerous scientific studies have emerged in recent years showing that the hypnotized mind can exert a real and powerful effect on the body. The new finds are leading major hospitals to try hypnosis to relieve pain and speed recovery in a variety of illnesses”. Dr. David Spiegel, a Stanford professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford said, “I see hypnosis as a kind of app you haven’t used on your cellphone,” he said. “It’s got all kinds of capacity that people are just figuring out how to use, but if you haven’t used it, the phone doesn’t do that.” For more information, contact Browning Clinical Hypnotherapy in Tulsa at 918-990-0144 or go to www.browninghypnotherapy.com. Real People Working for a Common Goal Route 66 Chevrolet has the right people in the right places working to build lifetime relationships with customers.

n July 2017, Route 66 Chevrolet opened doors at I-44 & Memorial in Tulsa. In an interview with executive manager Chuck Mulkey, the recurring theme was great employees who are all real people, teamwork, family, and making Route 66 Chevrolet the absolute best they can be. With Route 66 from the start, Mulkey has been in the automotive business for 30 years and was recently promoted to executive manager. He takes pride in the team that he refers to as a family. “We are a team focused on making the company greater than ever,” he said. “The location has a new name, but many great employees are still here and several who once were here have come back. We have the right people in the right places.” Mulkey plus general sales manager Dustin Hightower, controller Trena McGill, used car director Eddie Saxon and floor manager Will Turner provide faith-focused leadership to round out the executive management team. Mulkey also emphasized the expertise of employees who are rarely seen by the public but play an integral role in the success and integrity of daily operations. Although behind the scenes, these “family” members are on top of accounting procedures, warranty administration, parts acquisitions, service and much more. Many of the dealership’s key leaders have prior military service, and the (continued on next page)

They appreciate the hardworking people who come to the store hoping to find a vehicle. “We do what we say we’re going to do,” says Mulkey, “and we want to help you find the car you need at a price you feel is right. A driving purpose is to build lifetime relationships with our valued customers.” Mulkey announced that his team focuses on building the largest fleet and commercial vehicle department in the Tulsa area. Look to them for sales and service whether beginning or adding to your fleet lineup. “We genuinely want to stay plugged into our community,” stated Mulkey. “Last year we were a sponsor of the ‘Tulsa St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway,’ benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and we’re doing it again this year.” St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is based in Memphis, Tennessee, but since it opened in 1962, doctors there have treated children from all 50 states and 70 foreign countries, children with catastrophic diseases like cancer. Win a house. Help save children’s lives. Tickets will be available this spring for a chance to win a home, a Chevrolet vehicle from Rt. 66, and other prizes. The mission of St. Jude is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric cancer
and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Specifically, they wish to increase the cure rates to over 90 percent

When St. Jude opened its doors in 1962, only 20 percent of children with cancer survived. Today, helped by innovative research at St. Jude, over 80 percent survive. Consistent with the vision of founder Danny Thomas, no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food. This allows treatment and research to be conducted at St. Jude in an unsurpassed manner.

St. Jude serves as a global resource by sharing their knowledge and discoveries with health care and scientific research professionals around the world. Integral to the success of the organization is their ability to raise the necessary funds to support the mission and accelerate progress. They make discoveries and treatment innovations widely available to the global health care and research communities. They share the primary data from research freely with those wishing to use the information for research purposes.
Mulkey also announced the introduction of RED (Remember Everyone Deployed) Shirt Fridays. How we can help you reach a healthy weight Don’t live another year unhappy with your weight. Achieve your goals in 2019 with the help of Grassroots Healthcare. Call our office in Tulsa to schedule your consultation. We offer a variety of weight management plans because one is not right for every person. After gathering your medical history and doing a physical exam, the Grassroots Providers get a better idea of what type of plan will work best for you. We also consult with you about your preferences, your schedule, and any limitations you have. We may recommend any one of a variety of strategies for your weight loss journey. A keto diet restricts your carbohydrate intake so your body burns more of your fat stores for fuel. You focus on eating mostly fats and proteins. We often will couple this with a sugar free detox, intermittent fasting, and if desired, appetite suppressants to get you into ketosis, where you will produce your own natural appetite suppressants. The HCG diet involves injections of this hormone that’s usually produced with pregnancy to help reset your metabolism so you can lose as much as a pound per day.
We supervise you as you follow the very low-calorie diet that accompanies the injections. With a sugar-free detox, Grassroots providers can help free you of a sugar addiction that prevents you from choosing healthy, nutritious foods. The natural anti-inflammatory state that comes with giving up sugar reduces depression, concentration and sleep deficit, as well as the typical inflammatory muscular aches and pains and fatigue that come with high carbohydrate and highly processed foods. We’re here to help you overcome setbacks, celebrate victories, and maintain your healthy weight for the long term. This type of moral support and accountability makes it easier to stick to your weight management plan. You may also receive medications to fight hunger, which can get the better of you as you drop pounds. Plus, we can provide vitamin B-12 injections to potentially boost your metabolism throughout the weight loss process.

s your driveway in need of a facelift? Are there unsightly cracks, chips and stains on your driveway degrading the overall look of your home? LCI Concrete specializes in driveway replacement and is the expert to call to get a fresh new look for the entrance to any residence. “It’s amazing what a new driveway can do for the look of a home,” said Kalan Paul, Owner of LCI. “On an average house built in the ‘70s or ‘80s, it can take 20 years off the look of the house.” Kalan knows a great deal about curb appeal, with a personal background in real estate and new home construction. He has built a trusted name in concrete driveway repair and replacement with over 14 years in the business. “I don’t think that anyone would lose money replacing a driveway,” said Kalan. “It can really add to the value of their home. It’s a good solid investment.” The business philosophy at LCI focuses on three major points: customer satisfaction, quality workmanship and materials and speed of project completion. “Most everyone in the business uses similar materials, but we try to stay at the top on quality at a minimal cost,” said Kalan. “Most projects can be completed in 1-2 days. We want to provide the most convenience possible for our customers.”

The right time to consider a driveway replacement can vary, but overall there are three essential attributes to look for. Aesthetics – the overall look of the driveway for the need of replacement is usually the most significant factor. Oil and other car fluid stains, peeling and cracks cannot only make the driveway look unattractive but can also progressively get worse, creating a hazard. Functionality – Physical hazards, such as holes or cracks will not only cause damage to a vehicle, but can be dangerous to walk, play or ride a bike on. Legal – An accident that takes place on your property can be a legal nightmare, and a hazardous driveway from a legal perspective could be a huge liability. LCI can provide expert advice and planning for a new driveway with a quick turn-around time for price quotes. ony Sementi says it seems just like yesterday that he started Tile by Tony. He built a name for himself as one of the best tile layers in the greater Tulsa area. Today that reputation has expanded to all things related to home improvement, but the name has stuck. The key to his success has been a passion for quality customer care and a standard of excellence for the work provided, and that standard begins the moment a customer contacts Tile by Tony. “A lot of times, it’s all voicemail or ‘Text me.’ We don’t do that,” Sementi said. “You pick up the phone and you’ve got somebody.” One of the core standards of Tile by Tony is transparency. Sementi says it important they establish trust well before the labor begins. “I like for people to know where the money is going, so we itemized every little thing on our bids. Don’t worry about that bottom number; let’s figure out how we got there. I like to be transparent and show you what you’re getting.” No matter how many years Sementi has been in the business, he is personally invested in the work associated with his name. “I supervise every job. I go around to every job, every day. Not because I need to check on my people, but I can see where we’re at.” And that allows him to communicate well with his customers, another aspect of the business that Sementi values. “We’re great at communication, and to me, that’s the most important thing. You can have the best people in the world, but if they don’t talk together and communicate, it’s not going to work. Communication is everything.” Tile by Tony is known throughout the region for specializing in kitchen and

bathrooms, but they do it all. And they do it all extremely well, Sementi says. Over the years, he’s built a quality team and system that not only he can trust, but his customers can as well. “Quality is not an accident; quality is a result of really good planning, execution and good materials. We think we bring all of that to the table. “Here, it’s also a quality of people that we have. You’re going to have strangers in your house, people you don’t know. You have to have
a connection, and you have to feel good about them. You have to be comfortable leaving them in your house. We have worked awful hard to find people who care. We keep in mind we’re guests in someone’s home. You should leave at least as good if not better than the way you found it, and that’s what we try to do.” While the business may have expanded since 1982, the commitment has never changed. Transparency, communication and quality remain synonymous with
the people and the product of Tile by Tony. “Our saying has been to go above and beyond. It sounds cliché, but we try under-promise and overdeliver, and people appreciate it.” Sementi said. “What’s really cool is people invite us back time and time again and that tells you you’re doing it right.”

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In the bowl of a food processor, put the cilantro leaves, parsley leaves, mint leaves, garlic, juice of one lime, cumin, coriander, and 1 teaspoon of Kosher salt. Pulse a few times, and slowly add the 1/2 cup of olive oil. You may need to add more oil until mixture becomes a loose sauce (not too thick). It should be coarsely processed, not puréed. Scrape into a bowl and set aside. Cut out the stems from the Swiss chard. Chop the stems and coarsely and tear the leaves. In a 10” heavy skillet, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Shakshuka is on many menus for breakfast or brunch, and it’s served with fresh pita. I also make a variation called Green Shakshuka, which is made with green herbs and chard instead of tomatoes.
