Within the world of clicking for an answer and multi-tasking, getting plugged in has a totally different meaning at Martial Arts Academy; it means “focus.” Very simply, use your brain and concentrate on the task at hand in the moment. RRestore Your Youthful Appearance A New Image in Claremore is offering two specials on facial laser treatments during the month of September.

By Carol Beck-Round Are you seeking to restore your youthful appearance without resorting to surgery? During the month of September, A New Image Cosmetic Laser Center in Claremore is offering specials on two laser treatments: LimeLight Photo Facial and Laser Genesis Skin Therapy.

LimeLight Photo Facial is designed to treat skin redness, tiny veins, brown spots and sun damage. According to Candi Budde, laser technician, each procedure takes about 45 minutes to an hour and generally involves two to three sessions over several months.

“The skin needs to regenerate, so appointments are scheduled four to six weeks apart,” she says. “However, patients usually start to see improvement after the first treatment, depending on what we are dealing with. Brown spots will shrink and begin to flake off over a 7 to 10 day period.”

Patients will probably also experience some mild redness and soreness the first 24 hours. “If we treat the tiny veins on the chin or cheeks all at once, there will be some mild soreness,” Budde adds. While patients receive a topical numbing agent before each procedure, most will still feel a mild discomfort similar to a light rubber-band snap. “I have had patients who have been able to tolerate treatments without any numbing agent at all,” she adds. According to Dr. Dwight J. Korgan, who is the consulting physician on location and oversees the management of A New Image, “It is imperative that patients use a facial sunscreen with UVA and UVB after treatments. We have gained many regular customers, friends and familiar faces since opening in July of 2004,” says Jerri Ann. “I have truly enjoyed being a local retailer in Owasso. It has been the most fun and exciting time of my life. As the saying goes, however, ‘All good things must come to an end.’ I will miss everyone so much!” The store is currently holding a liquidation sale that began August 20. As the sale progresses, deeper discounts will be available on all your scrapbooking needs – paper, cardstock, stickers, embellishments, albums and more. “We’re closing the store in style,” adds Jerri Ann. “Come in and get your scrapbooking items quick before everything is gone. 1. Begin the day journaling in your GRATITUDE JOURNAL. This can be as simple as a few words or sentences written in a small spiral notebook. It does not have to be much, but needs to be direct. Here are a few examples: Words - my health, home, family, friends, job, clothes, food Sentences - I am thankful for my wife/husband. I am grateful I can walk. Thank you for a home and food. These are simple examples that do not take long. In reality, you will spend only 1-2 minutes, but the dividends will pay off for several hours. 2. Verbalize a simple declaration of self-encouragement. This means SAYING OUT LOUD something that encourages you and lifts you own spirits. Here are two examples that you can use (try writing one or several for yourself): I have a purpose for my life and I am a blessing to many today. I was created for excellence and am living it out today. Do this daily and say it as much as you need to until you believe it.This may sound silly, but believe me

it works. You can literally pull yourself out of a pit by saying this out of your own mouth where you can hear it (do not just read it say it). 3. Eat a healthy breakfast. After taking care of you mind, heart, and emotions, it is time to care for your body. Consume at least 30 grams of high quality protein to help regulate blood sugar. It is very important to start the 'food intake' portion of your day on a positive note. This can be accomplished by eating free range eggs, grass fed meats, or organic yogurt. Additionally, a high quality protein shake will suffice. Keep carbohydrates at a minimum by possibly adding one piece of fruit or one slice of sprouted grain bread. 4. Take at least a 15 minute walk. You can do this anytime throughout the day. Just schedule it, and do not miss your 'activity appointment.' I know this doesn't sound like much, but if you are not doing anything, it is a very good start. If you are already consistent with your activity, you are good to go here. 5. Read a positive devotional or book before bed. You may choose to read a couple of chapters from the Bible or an inspirational book. This will fill the mind with positivity before entering sleep. The region’s oldest and largest wine tasting event will

be held on September 25, 2015, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Tulsa Municipal Rose Garden. This year’s event showcases the much anticipated renovation of Tier 1 of the Tulsa Rose Garden featuring new lighting, ADA accessible features and improved walkways. Over 250 replacement roses have been planted with additional plantings of complementary

plants scheduled for fall and early spring. An Evening of Wine & Roses features more than 180 wines and spirits along with appetizers and desserts from 40 Tulsa restaurants in a beautiful Midsummer Night’s Dream setting. The Garden Tasting begins at 7 p.m. in the Tulsa Municipal Rose Garden. Tickets for the Garden Tasting are $70

for Tulsa Garden Center members and $85 for non-members. What are the side effects? The most common side effect associated with TMS Therapy® is pain or discomfort during treatment at or near the treatment area. In clinical trials, after six weeks of treatment, 1 in 2 patients improved significantly and 1 in 3 patients were completely free of depression symptoms. Efficacy was established in a controlled clinical trial comparing active treatment with the NeuroStar TMS therapy System to an inactive device. Patients treated with active NeuroStar TMS Therapy received an average reduction in their depression symptom score of 22.1% compared to a 9% average reduction in patients receiving inactive treatment.

Does TMS Therapy cause memory loss? No. TMS Therapy was systematically evaluated for its effects on memory. Clinical trials

What is treatment with TMS Therapy like? During treatment, patients recline comfortably and are awake and alert throughout the

Patients will hear a clicking sound and feel a tapping sensation on their head during treatment. Talent Search is federally funded through the U. S. Department of Education, offering academic, career and financial aid counseling to its participants. It also helps students who have dropped out of high school reenter the educational

system and complete their education. RSU Talent Search Director Kevin Abbott said the program helps students navigate their options. 8th Annual Bike Ride Supports Claremore Main Street

The Dickens of a Ride is set for October 3, 2015 with lots of friendly fun for the entire family. By Carol Beck-Round Over 300 cyclists are expected to converge on downtown Claremore Main Street on October 3 for the 8th annual Dickens of a Ride. With cooler weather and fall officially beginning, riders who participate will enjoy the scenic countryside of west Claremore, through Oologah and around

Claremore Lake. The ride begins at 8 a.m. and includes mechanical and SAG support as well as supplied rest stops throughout the ride, which begins and ends at Gazebo Park on the corner of Muskogee Avenue and Will Rogers Boulevard. Volunteers in cars will be driving

the routes to assist any riders who need support. “We’re blessed to have these people who volunteer their time,” says Janice Whittaker, owner of Bike About Bicycles. Whittaker has helped to organize and promote the event since its beginning in 2007. “It’s like a big party in a way,” says Whittaker. “It’s not a competitive event but a fun relaxing ride with many unique sights along the routes, as well as plenty of refreshments for the cyclists at the various rest stops.” The familyfriendly event features five available routes, depending on the distance chosen by the bike rider. Routes include a Lazy Lake Loop of roughly seven miles; a 30-mile course; a 50-miler; a 62-mile route; and for the more competitive Riders of all ages will enjoy the scenic routes selected for this year’s Dickens of a Ride, set for Saturday, October 3 beginning at 8 a.m. in riders, there is a 100downtown Claremore. Five routes of varying distances are planned to mile route that winds through the rolling challenge even the most dedicated cyclist.

Registration packets can be picked up at Bike About Bicycles (300 W. They have forward-mounted engines, placed in front of the driver, as opposed to dragsters, which place the engine behind the driver.” Rolling Thunder is a funny car based out of Sapulpa with an 18-gallon tank holding an exotic mixture of alcohol, but is truly powered by love. It can hit 100 miles an hour in 60 feet with 16-inch wheels screaming down the quarter-mile drag strip. The super-charged, highly modified Chevy engine produces 2,500 horse power. Let’s go back to the four-letter word that motivates the MaeHem Racing Team. L-O-V-E not only powers the car, but is the strong bond that holds the Owasso family and friends together. Mark DeMaro is the heart and soul behind the three and half-year project that designed and created Rolling Thunder. The team name, MaeHem, is named in honor of his late mother, Mae. The primary purpose of the car is to “(1) keep the family together while (2) serving the Lord and (3) giving back to the community and helping kids,” says DeMaro. “My mother was our biggest fan.” Mark’s life has been entwined in the automotive field since 1973, when he began drag racing. His first car was a modified ’65 Plymouth Valiant with a Barracuda front end. Car owners and team founders are Scott and Kris Demauro and Mark DeMaro, along with their wives. Scott DeMauro, Mark’s nephew, and the entire crew of Rolling Thunder can’t say enough about the support they and the funny car project receive from their wives. Scott, one of two drivers, admitted the project requires him to spend a lot of time away from home and family. “But this is very good work we do here

and we couldn’t do it without approval from our wonderful wives.” Conception through design to the funny car’s public debut at the Tulsa Raceway on August 15 has taken three and half years. The heart of Rolling Thunder is the powerful Chevy engine, which Paul Bridgewater led in the designing and building of the motor. Three crew members are Michael Newman, George Stabler, and David Summerton, who shares driving duties with Scott. Kris DeMauro is Scott’s brother and his primary role as a crew member is in fabrication, electrical and engine. He and Uncle Mark are responsible for scheduling the funny car’s visits to charitable events in reaching out to the community. One of the first charitable groups to benefit from Rolling Thunder is the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships to the spouses and children of soldiers killed or disabled in service to America. The car also will be benefiting Tulsa Youth Services and Hydrants of Hope. Cruise into Claremore for a Cause

The 8th annual Route 66 Cruisers Car & Motorcycle Show is set for September 25-26, 2015. By Carol Beck-Round Over 300 vintage, modified and antique cars as well as motorcycles are expected to roll into Claremore on September 25 for the 8th annual Route 66 Cruisers Car & Motorcycle Show. The cruise-in begins at 4 p.m. with music and door prizes at Ne-Mar Center. “In total, we usually give away more than $1,000 worth of prizes in addition to $600 cash during the two-day show,” says Dwayne Caldwell, club president. Some of the prizes include one night stays at local hotels and automotive parts. A silent auction with a variety of gift baskets will also be held. Beginning at 6 p.m., participants will cruise down historic Route 66 to the Totem Pole Park in Foyil, where free hot dogs, courtesy of Akdar Shrine, will be served. “Our club does a lot to help support Shriners Hospitals for Children,” Caldwell adds. The children will benefit from the cruise and car show through registration fees of car owners.

On Saturday, the familyfriendly event begins at Claremore Lake. Over 40 classes of automobiles will be represented, as well as motorcycles. Drawings will continue throughout the day, and custom-built trophies will be awarded for Best Ford, GM, Mopar, Rat Rod, Best Paint and Best of Show. A gas card will be awarded for the individual who has traveled the farthest distance to participate in the show. A club participation award of $100 will also be given away. In addition to the car show, a pin-up contest is planned. “This is a vintage style contest harking back to the 50s era. No revealing outfits are allowed,” he adds. Trophies and cash will be awarded to the top three winners. All awards will be announced and given away beginning at 2 p.m. “There will be something for everyone,” says Caldwell. “There will be Jupiter Jumps for the children, live music by the Bill Holden Band, one-of-a-

Biking to Create a World Free of MS Make a difference is someone’s life by participating in the Bike MS ride on September 26 and 27. By Deanna Rebro Join hundreds of bicyclists on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27, as they venture on a 150-mile journey from Norman to Guthrie to Stillwater to have fun and help create a world free of multiple sclerosis (MS). Bike MS, now in its 30th year, is recognized as the premier fundraising cycling series in the nation. Bike MS: The Road Divided 2015 is the area effort that provides vital support to 4,400 local individuals diagnosed with MS. This unpredictable and often disabling disease of the central nervous system disrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and body, much like a frayed electrical cord, thus producing neurological disorders. The course of the disease varies greatly from person to person. Although MS can develop at any age, the disease is most common in women between ages 20 and 50. Unfortunately, the cause of MS is still unknown and there is no cure. Several disease-modifying medications are available to stop the progression of symptoms that include numbness, blurred vision, incontinence, memory loss, muscle spasms, dizziness

The symptom management, treatment and healthcare coordination for a person living with MS comes to approximately $60,000 a year. “That’s why this event is so important to these people and to their families,” says Sarah Flowers, development manager of the National MS Society Oklahoma chapter. The goal for Bike MS: The Road Divided 2015 is $540,000. “The funds raised through Bike MS help to provide direct financial assistance to those living with MS, and vital programs and services to them

and their families such as self-help groups and wellness programs.” With more than 100 Bike MS events taking place across the nation, corporations and organizations have made this the team-building event of choice. Anyone 12 or older is invited to participate, with a $300 fundraising minimum. “The real fun comes among teams,” says Sarah. Any kind of team – friends, families, businesses, civic groups, churches, scouts, youth groups, and people living with MS.
