PUTTING RCB BANK ON THE MAP BY SEANA WARREN

t’s hard to believe that a successful bank with more than 50 locations in two states, and over $2.7 billion in assets came from such humble beginnings. After the stock market crash in 1929, the Great Depression rocked the nation. Unprecedented drought ravaged the state of Oklahoma and oil prices fell. By the mid-1930’s, only one bank existed in Claremore, Oklahoma, the First National Bank. “It was a terrible time,” said Frank Robson, RCB Board Member and son of Rogers County Bank founder L.S. Robson. “By 1934, my dad had encumbered himself with a lot of debt from ranch and oil investments.” L.S. Robson sought a loan with $15,000 in securities, but was only offered a loan of $500. He picked up his securities, thanked the banker and left. But then it hit him, if Claremore and the community was ever going to grow, credit had to be available to people. L.S. Robson spent the next year accumulating $25,000 startup money from investors, including drugstore owner, S.C. Vincent, County Treasurer Anne Settle, Livestock man Ben Lowry and banker Guy Bayless, and oilman J. B. Milam. The money was used for a charter bank called Rogers County Bank. It was the only bank in Oklahoma to receive a charter in 1936. On January 4, 1936,

Rogers County Bank opened with a promise to “furnish banking facilities – friendly service and progressive in spirit.” RCB Bank’s relationship building didn’t stop with Claremore. Expansions into the surrounding communities like Pryor, Catoosa, Inola and Owasso gave way to more expansion to Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Skiatook and Collinsville. In recent years, even more communities have joined the RCB Bank family like Bartlesville, Stroud and Norman; and, even more expansion into the state of Kansas. Who knows what the growth will be for RCB Bank in the next 80 years, but one thing is for certain, the priority will always be to the community and relationships with their customers.

uskogee’s newest festival, G Fest , returns in its second year to Hatbox Field on June 15-17, 2017, for three nights of music, camping and entertainment. The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame (OMHOF) will host a celebratory concert and induction ceremony at Hatbox Field on June 14, 2017—preceding the music festival. The induction ceremony and concert will feature performances by many of the honored artists. The induction will be at the Hangar at Hatbox Field beginning at 7:00 p.m. The induction is a separate, ticketed event, however, all G Fest 3-day ticket holders and volunteers are invited to the after party. Building on the success of its inaugural year in 2016, G Fest Muskogee is bringing even more music, camping and entertainment. Bands take the main stage at 3:30 p.m. with headliners going on at 10:00 p.m. each of the three evenings. Other stages throughout the venue begin as early as 1:00 p.m. “We’re excited to 26 |

share several of the artists joining us for the second annual G Fest,” said Jim Blair, executive director of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. “We are bringing back a lot of the atmosphere guests enjoyed from our first year, and have expanded with some new opportunities in 2017. uying a car is a major purchase. Budgets are tight. It’s tempting to accept financing based on the lowest monthly payment, but don’t. Here’s why. f you live in the South, chances are you’re serious about your barbeque. The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) means business, too. In fact, they sanction barbeque competitions all over the United States, including Claremore’s Boots and BBQ Festival. Prizes total up to $7500 and points towards KCBS Championship status. The Claremore Reveille Rotary Club, Visit Claremore, RCB Bank, Walke Brothers Meats, Jack Kissee Ford, Tulsa Stockyards, Utility Cable Communications, BancFirst, Stillwater Milling, Johnny LeonardCentury 21, and Community Home Health are all sponsoring the sanctioned KCBS cook-off in the twelfth annual Boots

and BBQ Festival. The event will take place June 3 at the Claremore Expo Center from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. KCBS certified judges will be on hand to adjudicate the 40+ barbeque cooks looking for the winning recipes in appearance, taste and tenderness. People’s Choice taster kits will be available for purchase starting at 1:00 p.m., with tasting to start at 2:00 p.m. Adult taster kits are $10 and children 12 and under are $6. You can stroll along and test each cook’s recipes. After sampling, you can vote for People’s Choice in which the winner will receive a cash prize of $200. There’s even something for local barbeque cooks,

the Backyard BBQ Competition. Anyone not registered in the KCBS is welcome to participate for first place bragging rights. Other than registration and the taster kits, the event is free and open to the public. Area vendors will be on hand, along with music and a kid’s area for hours of fun. But the real winners are the kids of Rogers County. All proceeds from the Boots and BBQ Festival go directly into every school in the county. “It’s our mission to help local schools enhance young student education”, said Tanya Andrews, director of Visit Claremore/Claremore Expo Center, and Reveille Rotary Club member. “We use every penny of the proceeds to offer four to five scholarships to area

seniors, each year. We purchase 10,000 pencils that are distributed to all schools in Rogers County. This year we received a matching grant from Rotary International and together gave $6,000 to the Rogers County Salvation Army for their Food 4 Kids Backpack program”. Additionally, Reveille Rotary gives every third grader in Rogers County a personalized dictionary. Cooks can register for the KCBS Competition or the Backyard BBQ Competition up to June 2 on check-in day. Registrations forms for cooks and vendors are available online or by telephone request.
