You’d hate to be counting on vandalism insurance, only to find out after an incident that it’s not covered. Rental properties usually require a different policy under a rental homeowner’s policy known as a “dwelling fire policy”. Under the dwelling fire policy, normal wear and tear damage is not covered, but preempted vandalism is. Tenant vandalism cases are tricky, but Servpro can help you with the process. Servpro recommends all homeowners and landlords to check with their insurance companies to review their policies and get a better understanding of what is and isn’t covered under their premium. Servpro can help you with your rental property needs “Like It Never Even Happened”.

Q&A with Financial Advisor Linda Rainwater Q: I’m concerned about the stock market. Last year seems better than this year, am I correct? – Fretting Fred
A: Fred, periods of market volatility – especially pullbacks – can trigger emotional responses. You may feel
upset or worried. This is normal. Volatility can also appear as rapid upswings causing euphoria that can also impact judgment. Pullbacks can make investors want to pull up stakes and pull out – a common reaction and a common mistake, especially for long-term investors. Each decline along the way felt terrible, declines today feel just as bad. When we track the overall growth the market has achieved, we learn a lesson in persistence, patience and commitment. The right knowledge can help us avoid this mistake, and when we are willing to learn, there’s no better teacher than history. Remember, the stock market is cyclical and you will likely encounter numerous pullbacks as a long-term investor. The upturns have always been stronger than the downturns in the long run. In the years before you retire, you are accumulating income for your future. After you retire, you need to have dependable income to provide your wants and needs. It is important to review your tolerance for risk and to make sure your investments provide predictable income. Especially during declines, your advisor can act as a sounding board for your concerns. By talking about current events in light of your overall financial plan, your advisor can help you stay the course, even when the market seems relatively tumultuous.

1 S T PLACE BROOKLYN PICKARD
Hi! My name is Brooklyn and my mom’s name is Sharon! There are a million reasons why I love my mom but I’ll just outline the big ones. She makes me laugh harder than anyone I know without even meaning to, she just has this naturally funny nature; she can always make a bad day better for me just by cracking a few jokes. Another reason I love her, She has the biggest heart. She cares so deeply about everyone in her life and you’ll never hear her say a bad thing about someone else. My last reason I love my mom; She is my absolute best friend. She’s the first person I call when something good or bad happens to me, she always listens and always gives the best advice, even if it’s something I don’t want to hear. I love her to the moon and back!
2 N D PLACE MCKENNA BROWN
My name is McKenna Brown and I am attending college to become a registered nurse. My mom is one of my closest and best friends. We look and act a lot alike. We occasionally get asked if we are sisters. My mom has taught me how to be a lady and shows me how to live for Jesus every day. Her life is an amazing example. Her love, friendship, and support mean the world to me. I love her so much!
3 RD PLACE KATIE BUNCH
My name is Katie Bunch and I am 28 years old. The reason why I love my mom is because I can always come to her when I need it and she still helps me out. She is an amazing mom.

PROTECTING WHAT YOU LOVE MOST FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS BY TERESA BOND-MASON
M
odern technology has made it easier for consumers to protect their homes and other items of great value. But how do you know if the job is getting done correctly? If you worry enough to protect your property, you should be concerned enough to do it right! At DLSS, they take the challenge of safeguarding homes and businesses to heart. In business since 1997, DLSS prides itself on building relationships with its customers. Kevin Dyson, who owns and operates the company stresses, “We care about our customers and they are much more than just a name on a sheet of paper to us. We make ourselves available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” That’s one of the many reasons Kevin thinks customers tend to stay with DLSS rather than leave for the next best deal offered to them through a coupon in the mail. Once thought to only be available to the super rich, home automation and security is available to anyone with a smart device. “We use one platform for security, lights, sound – really just about anything you can imagine,” explains Kevin. This differs from many other companies who provide similar services because rather than one app on your smart device, you need several, which can make it confusing and more difficult to use. Another aspect to DLSS which makes them unique is the fact they use an open platform, which in
laymen’s terms, means you can go to other retailers and add on other amenities. “We don’t lock our customers out so they are forced to use us for all of their needs. We have built-in flexibility with our programs,” says Kevin. The most satisfying aspect of of his business is “handling our customers with care”. Kevin says every phone call is always answered by a human and all problems are solved rather than just placing the blame. “We want to make it right.” His management staff help to make sure that is always the focus. Helping in the office are Office Manager Sophie Woodson and Operations Manager Shannon Morrison and out in the field are Commercial Lead Tech Josh Morrison and Scheduling Manager Anthony Green. Kevin and his staff are trained and licensed, which is an ongoing process because technology and trends constantly change. “I receive some sort of new training about every 90 days”. Besides keeping up on technology, Kevin also is involved with state legislation that regulates security licensing for Oklahoma. But, securing your home and business is far from the only services DLSS provides. They also install fire alarms, home and business automation, access control, video surveillance, sound systems, home theatre systems, low voltage and solar lighting, computer networking and gate access systems. Kevin is quick to point out that he and his staff are happy to discuss

any unusual or high-value items that may take extra engineering. Give DLSS a call at 918-376-9200 or visit them online at www.dlsspro. com. It won’t take you long to see why they’ve been voted Tulsa’s Best for four years.

usiness longevity is a direct reflection of consumer satisfaction. For almost 40 years, Rain Guard of Tulsa, Inc. has been the authority on guttering for both commercial and residential needs. Rain Guard has earned a successful reputation, with over 350,000 customers singing their praise. Owner David Bootenhoff has built his company from the ground up, with a strong foundation built on honesty, integrity, and good, old-fashioned hard work.

David was “just a skinny kid” at 19 years old, when he began working in the guttering industry. He was hired on for labor at $3.50/hour. He worked his way up to sales, and then eventually management. He enjoyed his work in the industry, and was keenly aware of its opportunities and essence. It was sometime later that he decided he needed to have a gutter business of his own. A loan from his father allowed the purchase of a used truck and gutter machine to launch his company out of his Tulsa home
garage in 1982. That same year, he was approached by Gutter Helmet, seeking distribution of their revolutionary rain gutter product. David is, to this day, amazed at how well the product works. He says, “If there was a better product other than Gutter Helmet® to keep gutters clean, I would be selling it.” Rain Guard is an exclusive dealer of Gutter Helmet® in Oklahoma. Rain Guard’s list of quality products has grown to include several styles of guttering, as well as beautiful copper architectural

embellishments. Their success through the years is reflected in the business they receive from referrals and repeat customers, and they are renowned for the professional workmanship they provide. They have been in their current 8000 sq. ft. facility in West Tulsa since 2008. A small company, David says that it’s like a family. He works hard to take care of his staff, and says that he would be nothing without them. He runs the business with the support of his wife, Marlene and their dog, Chief.
His greatest credit for his success, however, goes to his father, Gene. He speaks of his father with deep admiration, and says “he is a great man. We couldn’t have done it without him.” With so many years of experience and happy customers, it is no wonder that Rain Guard has received awards such as Angie’s List Super Service and A grade, and a five-star rating on Home Advisor. Additionally, they have been a member of Homebuilder’s Association since 1982, and a member of the BBB
since 1983, with an A+ rating. Rain Guard’s staying power is a result of David Bootenhoff ’s fortitude and tenacity in building a company that people can trust. This is one of the many reasons they will be around for many more years to come. Call Rain Guard of Tulsa, Inc. today for a free estimate for your seamless gutters with Gutter Helmet®.

What You Need to Know About Purchasing a Hearing Aid
You may be experiencing hearing loss if you often complain that others are mumbling, or you have difficulty understanding conversations in a group. Hearing aids can make sounds louder, but cannot change how your ears function. Here’s some helpful information to help guide you to improve your hearing.
BY MARY BRANSFORD
A
re you having trouble hearing? Do you think a hearing aid might help? Most often, hearing loss sneaks up on you. Suddenly one day, you notice that you no longer hear the humming of the refrigerator or the birds’ singing. On average, it takes 10 years for people with hearing loss to finally do something about it. Many people are simply waiting for the hearing problem to go away. Unfortunately, this rarely happens. Your brain center stores sounds and noises for up to three years following the onset of hearing loss, but after about seven years the memory becomes weaker and weaker. Therefore, it is important to have your hearing tested and hearing aids fitted when you find out that you are losing some of your hearing. Additionally, hearing loss is also linked to the risk of falling, likeliness to develop dementia, increased risk of depression, and sufferers are also more likely to be hospitalized. Steve and Miche Dyke, MiracleEar franchise owners, have helped countless people overcome their hearing problems. They opened their first office in Muskogee known as Better Sound Hearing in 1990 and have since grown to 14 offices throughout Oklahoma. In 2015 they became Miracle-Ear.

May 31st is National Hearing Day and reminds us that our hearing is vital, and needs to be protected. The couple has a passion for helping people. Steve was raised in a family of audiologists and is a board certified hearing instrument specialist and Miche is a registered nurse. “Being in the Miracle Ear group allows us to provide our patients with more warranties for loss and damage, provide better pricing, and expand to offer more services. When you need help or service your warranty can be used without charge at any Miracle-Ear store worldwide,” explained Miche. “Another wonderful facet of Miracle-Ear is that if you cannot afford a hearing aid, you will not leave without a hearing aid… the Miracle-Ear Foundation’s Gift of Sound hearing aid program helps children and adults with hearing loss gain access to hearing aids. The program is designed for people who demonstrate a personal inability to financially provide for their hearing health needs. For information about eligibility, visit www.miracleearfoundation.org, or see us in our office.” Miche explains. Their entire staff is licensed in

various capacities which include; a hearing instrument specialist, audiologist, nurses, and even their front office assistants participate in ongoing Miracle-Ear learning modules. Fitting and maintenance of your hearing aids are of utmost importance. Miche says, “our experienced staff uses all the latest technology to test and diagnose your hearing and will take the appropriate amount of time to make sure your fitting is right for your loss and ensure satisfaction.” When you purchase hearing aids from them, ongoing adjustments of your instruments, batteries and cleanings are always available at any of their locations at no charge. “Another thing, we help our patients with is education. We teach you about wax management, makeup, and how hair spray can damage your hearing aids. Also, batteries should be changed every one to two weeks for hearing aids that require batteries. Cleaning should be done every 90 days at our office. Cleanings, for any make or model, at our office are available to no charge

regardless of where you purchased your hearing aids,” she expressed. Miche and Steve allow you to try your hearing aids before you buy them. “We want to make sure you are going to wear your hearing aids. The price of your hearing aid will start at about $695.00 and go up depending on what technology and user experience you choose.
One outstanding product they feature is the latest directional beam forming technology found in Miracle-Ear GENIUS RIC hearing instruments which allow hearing aid wearers to actually hear better in noise than their normal hearing peers. “The improvement in speech in noise for users of this technology can relate to a 20 – 30% increase in
speech intelligibility,” related Miche. If you find yourself asking those around you, “WHAT” more than normal, it is time to get your hearing checked. If so, contact the staff at Miracle-Ear in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Jenks, Bixby, Bartlesville or Muskogee. They will put their years of experience and caring to work for you.

Is a longer-term, lower monthly payment loan saving you money? Probably not. Lower monthly payments of longerterm loans often come with higher interest rates, which means you end up paying more money over the life of your loan. When it comes to borrowing money, it’s wise to consider the total cost of your loan. If you can afford a higher monthly payment, accepting a shorter-term loan could save you thousands of dollars. Let’s crunch the numbers on a 48-month (4 year) and 72-month (6 year) auto loan with example standard rates of 2.89% annual percentage rate (APR) for 48 months and 3.89% APR for 72 months for qualified buyers. On a $30,000 new car loan, total interest increases from $1,805 for a 48-month term to $3,687 for a 72-month term – a significant cost difference of $1,882. Focusing on the total loan cost will help you avoid buying more car than you can afford, plus help you avoid owing more on your car than what it is worth. 26 |

The longer the financing term, the more susceptible you are to having negative equity and being upside down on your loan. A typical new car can lose close to 22-percent of its value in the first year, and roughly 12-percent annually in years two through four, according to data from the online car-pricing company Edmumds.com. If you do go with longer financing, consider buying Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) coverage to help mitigate the risk of negative equity and having to make additional principal payments after a total loss. Having GAP can help with the difference between the primary insurance settlement and the outstanding balance on your vehicle on the date of loss. Ask your lender for details. Get$Fit Tip: Before car shopping, get pre-qualified for financing so you know your numbers. Then, stick to your budget.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH
Iron Star urban bbq Before Oklahoma entered statehood, there’s been a strong connection with Oklahoma and outlaws. The vast territory provided many areas for hideouts and easily accessible towns for bank robberies. Interest is spurred when you hear of a restaurant being named for one of Oklahoma’s most notorious female outlaws, Belle Starr. Iron Star Urban BBQ is in the heart of Oklahoma City, neighboring the Paseo Arts District & Crown Heights, 3700 N. Shartel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The restaurant gives the retro, western feel with wood floors and brick walls. You could just imagine an outlaw dining in a restaurant just like this. But, the food is not outdated. The restaurant offers a fine dining experience with a smokehouse flavor; however, it also offers comfort food with a twist. They don’t stop there. In keeping with the health food trends, they also offer a gluten free menu. Just a sampling of their main menu, they offer Seaboard Farms Pulled
Pork, an Oklahoma raised pork, which is smoked and hand pulled and also a Black Pepper Crusted Prime Rib (Dinner Only) is served by the ounce (10 oz. minimum) with your choice of two sides with cornbread. They offer a wide variety of sides, including Dutch oven sweet potatoes, corn pudding and braised collard greens. Mama’s Deviled Eggs, with pepper ceviche and fresh scallion is one of their amazing appetizers. Of course, a fine dining experience must be topped off with a tantalizing dessert, of which, Double Chocolate Bread Pudding with a grand marnier glaze is one option. If you’re needing a place of host a special gathering, Iron Star Urban BBQ offers a unique, fine dining experience having their own Chef design a special menu of gourmet influence for you and your guests. We are proud for Iron Star Urban BBQ to be named our May restaurant of the month.

Mike Fitzpatrick has been at Classic for twenty-five years; he reports, “Car sales are increasing at Classic Chevrolet, where a positive atmosphere and attitude create a great environment for customers and employees alike.” “We’re going back to Old Style ways of doing business,” he says. “Service is straightforward and honest, whether customers are purchasing a new or used vehicle or requesting service on a vehicle.” Business practices are traditional,
but the service department at Classic Chevrolet continues to keep up with the rapid advances in technology for repairing vehicles. Fitzpatrick states, “This makes a huge difference and why it is so important to have your vehicle serviced at the dealership. Vehicles have become ‘Infotainment Centers.’ It’s amazing what you can do with your car and what your car can do for you these days.” But intricate problems can crop up with intricate technology, making

The Avenue of Flags

M
emorial Day, was originally called Decoration Day, it began as a way to honor those served in the Civil War and to honor those that died fighting for their rights. Today, Memorial Day is a time to honor those who have given their lives in service to our great country. There are many ways to remember the sacrifices of our brave, but the services provided by Floral Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery are extraordinary. One of the most powerful Memorial Day exhibitions in the country begins on the Friday before what is known as The Avenue of Flags. Over 3,000 funeral coffin flags donated by veterans’ families are displayed. Each year, new inductees are honored at a ceremony where the deceased veteran’s family raises their sacred flag. It is an emotional and powerful tribute. The Avenue of Flags will open on Friday, May 25 and the new induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 26 at

Visitors may witness this solemn occasion the entire weekend, which will proceed regardless of the weather. For more than 60 years, Floral Haven Funeral Home, Crematory and Cemetery has been a beautiful and serene resting place, and a comfort to families and friends left behind. The grounds offer serene gardens with memorial benches and raised or flat monuments. Private estates are offered and can be customized with landscaping, upright and flat monuments and memorial benches. It is available for families to pay tribute to loved ones on the grounds in which they will be laid to rest. A Family Reception Center is also available for families to share memories of loved ones. With so many decisions to be made after the passing of a loved one, Floral Haven’s mission emphasizes the preplanning of funeral arrangements. Director of Sales and Marketing, Chuck Browne advises planning ahead for the inevitable. “We don’t want people to find themselves unprotected and unprepared when they lose someone,” said Browne. “It’s wise to have plans in place, so that on that horrible day no decisions have to be made.” Floral Haven staff works with each family with respect and integrity to exceed expectations. hen In recent years, “organic” has become a word you will find on almost every aisle in the grocery store. As the negative effects of preservatives and artificial colorings and ingredients have come to light, more and more people want to know exactly where their food is coming from before it ever makes its way into the grocery cart. In fact, many consumers are bypassing store bought vegetables altogether in favor of growing their own home produce where they can truly know the origins of the food they are eating. Most annuals and perennials are grown on site. All roses are grown from bare root plants and Stonebridge carries Proven Winners, which Michelle calls “the Cadillac of Plants.” Stonebridge Garden, Lawn and Landscape Center and its owners, Matt and Michelle Jones, were born and raised in the Claremore area. They have exchanged old green houses and added even more greenhouses. Stonebridge now hosts a Gift shop, where avid gardeners can find home décor and garden items. Special occasion gift items are also available, as well as fresh cut flowers and plants. Stonebridge Garden, Lawn and Landscape Center live up to the latter part of its name as well. They provide landscaping and lawn maintenance products and services. They carry

Even though not everyone who works at Stonebridge is related to Michelle and Matt Jones, they still view their employees as family. Since then, hours of planning, market research, sweat equity and a ‘can do’ attitude have produced what is now Stone Ice Co.—a unique experience available to the community of Owasso and surrounding areas. “We are changing the shaved ice game,” explains Trey Lambert, Co-owner of Stone Ice Co. “The concept is food truck meets ‘tiny home’, and there is something for everyone here.” Levi Green, Co-owner, agrees. “Our design makes us drastically different. We strategically designed our ‘shack’ to look and function differently. It is classier and more modern than the typical snow cone shack with primary colors. We even carefully sized and placed a 4’x4’ window. Customers can see the process and interact.” Lambert and Green, along with their third Co-owner and General Manager, Cole Lambert, take great pride in having built the trailer from the ground up. The physical location of Stone Ice Co. also sets them apart. Stone Ice Co. is now the local, neighborhood shop for the Stone Canyon neighborhood, but they have their sites on something even bigger: to
serve as a community gathering place for Owasso and surrounding communities. Nestled near the lake at Stone Canyon, with the Tulsa skyline in the distance, Stone Ice Co. offers comfortable seating to lounge, linger and visit, while enjoying a beautiful outdoor setting. With its intentional ambience and organic feel, it is only natural that Stone Ice Co. would also have a unique list of offerings for the public (The faculty at the nearby elementary school did a little taste-testing. How is that for market research?). Gracing its menu are over twenty-five varieties of snow cones including traditional flavors and some not-so-traditional as well, such as the “Silver Fox” and the “Polar Punch”. Sugar free flavors and a variety of toppings can customize your order. Coffee lovers will delight in knowing that their beloved brew is available for purchase onsite as well. So, too, is freshbrewed iced tea, including green tea. Stone Ice Co. also offers donuts and muffins or simple snacks such as portable, fresh fruit (bananas and apples) and granola bars. And, when you have more time to sit and relax, be sure to stop by Stone Ice Co. for a Giant Cinnamon Roll offered exclusively on the weekends. Stone Ice Co. is a ‘tiny house’ offering a mountain of refreshment choices and relaxation. Stop in for your taste today!
