So it’s gonna be a big one.” The free event is open to the public from 6-9 p.m. Guests can expect giveaways throughout the night with special gifts for the first 50 people. Many reps of the brands carried in store from Brighton to Made in Oklahoma will be spread throughout. Summerside Winery will also be offering free tastes with glasses and bottles of wine available for purchase. “Anybody that fills out a wishlist will also be entered for a drawing,” says Cari. “We’ve added some things with the move, so this will be a great time to get ideas for holiday gifts.” New additions to The District on Main include Dear (continued on page 22)

Twelve Years of Trees T The 12th annual Festival of Trees and auction takes place Friday, December 2 at the new Claremore Conference Center.
By Sheryl Sowell Safenet Services’ Festival of Trees jump starts the holiday season in Claremore each year. This year not only marks the 12th year for the event, with proceeds benefiting the domestic and sexual assault agency for women and children, but 25 years of operation for Safenet Services. “What many people don’t realize is how needed this service is in our community,” said Donna Grabow, executive director of
Safenet Services. “One in four women experience domestic violence. In 2015, we answered 4,272 crisis line calls. Currently the shelter is nearly full, with 13 women and 14 children. This event is so important because it provides many critical services for free to the women and children in our community who need help.” The Festival of Trees will be held Friday, December 2 at the new Claremore Conference Center. The theme this year is
“Winter Wonderland”, which will be carried out throughout the evening. Doors open at 6 p.m. A silent auction takes place until 7:15 and will be followed by a live auction. Brian Marlin of Inola returns as auctioneer this year. “Brian does a wonderful job and has an excellent rapport with guests,” said Donna. “We’re very pleased he is returning.” Trees ranging from 4 to 9 feet in a variety of traditional and unique themes will sprinkle the

venue and will be sold in the live auction. Trees purchased in the auction are delivered the following day. Several local businesses sponsor the trees, which are decorated by talented local designers. In addition, companies can decorate their own tree and donate it for the auction. “This event is so much fun and has grown each year. We are thankful and overwhelmed by the excitement of the community and expect to sell out of tickets so if you are planning to purchase a table or tickets please call in advance,” said Emily Brown, resource coordinator of Safenet Services. The Festival of Trees will feature live music, wine and other beverages, and heavy hors d’oeuvres by Chef Bill Baird of the Hammett House. To date, Festival of Trees sponsors include: Win & Kay Ingersol, Buck Willis, CPA; RCB Bank, Hillcrest Hospital Claremore, Inola Tool & Equipment, Asset Industrial, Cross Bo Construction, Banc First, Grand Bank, Per4mance Physical Therapy, Kissee Ford, MMS Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Dorothy’s Flowers and Junior Ocieleta Club of Claremore. They are still in need of sponsors, and various levels of sponsorship are

available. Tree sponsorships vary depending on size; a 4-foot tree is $500, 7.5-foot is $800, and 9-foot is $900. “If a company has a certain amount they would like to sponsor, such as $300, we will purchase an item for them to be auctioned at the event,” said Donna. “A lot of businesses purchase table sponsorships and make the event their company party.” Tickets to the Festival of Trees are $40 in advance and $50 at the door and include heavy hors d’oeuvres and wine and other beverages. Tickets may be purchased at the door. However, the crowd gets bigger every year, and it’s best to buy in advance at the District on Main, Cozy Cottage, or by calling Safenet Services at (918) 341-1424. Safenet is a United Way Agency and Certified by the Office of the Attorney General.

SSmartphone Safety Tips Protecting your smartphone can save you from identity theft during the holidays.
By Jocelyn Wood
This year, are you planning to do the majority of your
shopping in store, on your computer or by phone? Nearly 78 percent of all shoppers now use a smartphone. Of those shoppers, 44 percent are making purchases with their phone and 29 percent are making payments in store with their phones, according to 2016 UPS Pulse of the Online Shopper. Technology is making anywhere, anytime access second nature, and as technology plays an increasing role in our everyday lives, so increases the risk of mobile identity theft. Mobile identify theft is one of the fastest growing types of theft, which can be expected seeing how much time we spend on our phones, sending and reading texts, scouting products, monitoring social media, shopping and paying with our smartphones. Here are seven ways to protect your mobile device: 1. Password protect all Technology makes it easier for anytime, anywhere access to your devices. Don’t make the our finances; However, it also heightens the risk code easy. It may be a pain of identity theft.
How’s your holiday shopping
to log in each time, but it’s better than your personal information falling into the wrong hands. 2. Never purchase items or do your banking using public Wi-Fi. Public Wi-Fi is not secure, and your personal information – credit card and bank account numbers can be intercepted by hackers. Always assume someone is watching everything you do on public Wi-Fi because they probably are. 3. Learn how to remotely wipe your device, in case your phone is ever stolen or lost. Check with your service provider for details. 4. Keep your phone’s operating system and apps up-to-date. You may wish to consider malware protection software for your smartphones and tablets. Your mobile devices are computers and can become infected with malware. If you see a message telling you to download or upgrade your software, do some research first to make sure it’s not a fake message that will download malware.

Clinical Hypnotherapy: A Natural Solution Non prescription solutions to lose weight, relieve stress and stop smoking. By Jillian Moore
For James Browning, clinical hypnotherapy is more than a career - it’s a way of life. Before opening Browning Clinical Hypnotherapy three years ago, he spent decades as a manager in the media business, but later discovered a passion for helping people. This led Browning to an advanced education at the oldest hypnotherapy school in the United States.
“I love what I do,” Browning said. “No work I’ve ever done has rocked my world and been as richly satisfying as my hypnotherapy practice”. Browning has been interested in hypnotherapy since he bought his first book on the subject when he was 14. He has continued learning about the methods and has used self-hypnosis throughout his life. “I used self-hypnosis for improving my own life and getting

on a better track,” Browning explains. “It helped me quit smoking. I used self-hypnosis recordings and at the same time I was helping other friends. So that’s how I learned it works.” Browning has been managing people and his own professional time since the early age of 23. This experience helped make the transition to self employment a smooth one. According to Browning, the flexibility he gets from owning and operating his own practice is ideal. He sets his own schedule to allow for volunteer work for a local hospice organization whose patients he helps with anxiety and severe pain management. Rarely does he turn anyone away from his practice and those demonstrating genuine need but having limited resources may receive his help on a sliding scale. Browning assures regardless of a person’s circumstances, no one goes away worse off after attending a hypnotherapy session. The vast majority goes away a lot better to greatly improved after a few sessions. Hypnotherapy has also been proven effective for tobacco cessation, managing weight, headache reduction, pain
management and those suffering from PTSD. For those who think they can’t achieve hypnosis, they’ve been living based on a myth, according to Browning. “I love somebody who tells me they can’t be hypnotized,” Browning said. “They’re among the easiest. Any absolute belief like that can be turned around in hypnotherapy.” And for people worrying about what they may say or do while in a session, Browning assures that a patient wouldn’t do anything in hypnosis that they wouldn’t do outside of it. “It’s a natural state. Have you ever driven a car for a few minutes and couldn’t remember it?” Browning asked. “That’s stage one. Anytime your subconscious mind is somewhere else and you’re functioning at kind of an automatic level, you’re in hypnosis.” Browning’s clients will often walk in with a certain problem and eventually discover a memory or feeling that leads their mind down a totally different path. For example, a client could come in for weight management, but after a few sessions, discover an unhappy marriage where they subconsciously
used weight gain to avoid intimacy. Dealing with any underlying issues often requires a psychologist, especially in the cases of trauma or abuse. During a session, Browning helps patients with the feelings in the subconscious, but will refer them to a psychologist to work through their new discovery. For those unsure if hypnotherapy is right for them, Browning offers a free 30-minute consultation by appointment where he gets to know about a potential client to see if hypnosis is a good fit for a client’s issues. Browning’s clients will attend anywhere from three to five sessions to get the most results out of clinical hypnotherapy and will often come back for other behaviors and habits they’d like to fix or improve.

Spice Up Your Holiday Meal Cajun Style Tulsa’s premier cajun restaurant is ready to serve you.
By Deanna Rebro Once again Hebert’s Specialty Meats is ready to take orders for those extra special Cajun style Thanksgiving dinners. Many a table will include favorite holiday meats with just the right amount of spicy seasonings to add a little heat to every mouthwatering bite.
Ed “Cajun Ed” Richard, owner of the restaurant, says he is pleased to fill orders for the same customers he has had for nearly 20 years. “Some people have ordered meats from us every holiday,” the Louisiana native recalls. “Some want a little adventure in their meal with a few things to add a different flavor.”
Cajun Ed provides wonderful specialty meats and other delicacies authentic to New Orleans. This is real Cajun food made by real Cajun folks who make every meal a celebration. Hebert’s has it all. Choose from turducken, stuffed boneless turkey, stuffed turkey breast, spiral ham with honey or Cajun honey

glaze, smoked turkey, turkey or boneless stuffed chicken. For those who prefer something other than poultry, beef or pork tenderloin, prime rib roast, pork crown roast or pork loin are also available. All the meats at Hebert’s are extra special quality, keeping people coming back year after year. Side dishes include cornbread dressing, Andouille cornbread dressing, dirty rice dressing, sweet potatoes, crawfish jalapeno cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, broccoli cheese casserole, green beans, corn maque choux, potato salad and cole slaw. What Cajun holiday meal would be complete without dessert favorites? Bread pudding, bourbon pecan pie, key lime pie, peanut butter chocolate ganache pie and, of course, pralines. If cooking at home suits you better, Hebert’s has all the ingredients you could need. The Cajun market at Hebert’s is like a stroll through the French Quarter. Ed says it is the largest Cajun retail space in Tulsa. Brand name items include: Tabasco products, Zapp’s Potato Chips, Café Du Monde Beignet Mix, Camellia Beans, Community Coffee, Zatarain’s, Jack Miller’s BBQ Sauce, Tony Chachere’s, Steen’s 100% Pure Cane Syrup and Blue Plate Mayonnaise. Hebert’s meats can be shipped anywhere in the U.S., Monday
through Wednesday. Orders can be placed over the phone or online. A handy guide helps choose the right sizes for the number of people you’ll be serving. They can also pack food for you if you are traveling. Ed urges customers to order early so they won’t run out of anything. Pick up your order hot and ready to serve to your guests on Wednesday, the 23rd, or fully cooked and ready to heat up Thanksgiving day. Thinking ahead for holiday gifts, Hebert’s carries Cajun cookbooks featuring dishes from a variety of Louisiana regions. There are lots of unusual kitchen items, too, as well as gift cards and online gift certificates. You don’t have to wait for the holiday. Hebert’s is open Monday through Thursday, from 10 to 8 and Friday and Saturday until 9 for lunch and dinner. “Try us once and you’ll be hooked,” says Ed.

The 18th annual Bethlehem Walk, a free guided outdoor walk through an exciting and realistic nativity, will be held December 1-4 at Christview Christian Church.
By Vicky Bowlin Experience the true story of Christmas at Christview Christian Church’s Bethlehem Walk, a free outdoor walk through a living nativity. Christview Christian Church, located at 2525 S. Garnett in Tulsa, is pleased to present the 18th annual Bethlehem Walk to the community. The Bethlehem Walk is a 45-minute guided
outdoor walking tour through an exciting and realistic nativity scene. The path is lighted, and golf carts are available for those who are handicapped or disabled. Performances will be held Thursday and Friday, December 1 and 2 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The presentation features a cast of more than 150

authentically dressed Roman soldiers, beggars, lepers, heavenly angels, shepherds, and Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child. The church maintains a costume room with hundreds of costumes made as authentically as possible. Live camels, sheep and donkeys add to the authenticity of the greatest story ever told. Reservations are requested, and large groups are welcome. Admission is free. The Bethlehem Walk attracts thousands of attendees each year from a multi-state area. Individuals and groups congregate in the church’s auditorium. Everyone is assigned to a family and a guide who is also the “family head.” Some participants will be given Roman coins to pay taxes with as they enter Nazareth. You may even be hassled by Roman guards along the road as you march to Bethlehem. You will soon figure out, everyone becomes part of the production. A tax collector receives your family’s taxes, and your family representative will be asked to “make his mark” in

the record book. Don’t try to hold back any coins for yourself – tax collectors can get nasty! Along your route, you will encounter angels with silvery white robes and shepherds kneeling in fields. You will visit three wise men and their camels, and will be asked if you have seen the star in the east. As you enter the bazaar, you will enjoy tasting some of the food samples. The bazaar area houses several shops with baskets, jewelry, fruit and nuts, rugs and more. Half the fun of the evening is interacting with the characters, especially when the shepherds invite you to join them at their camp to enjoy their nice warm fire. As you journey on, you will likely see beggars and lepers. Please don’t touch! To do so is “punishable by death.” You will discover that there are no rooms available in Bethlehem. One innkeeper announces that he actually put up a man and his wife with child in a stable down the street. It was the last available vacancy in the city. Near the end of your walk, you will fast-forward 33 years as you encounter three crosses on a hillside and visit the tomb area where the body of Christ the Savior has gone
missing. An angel will appear and read from the scripture. At the conclusion of your walk, you are invited back to Fellowship Hall, where you will visit homes and courtyards of ancient times. Children may make a fabric doll, play games and pet farm animals, while everyone is welcome to enjoy cider and cookies. The evening is entertaining and educational for all, plus a tremendous outreach to the Tulsa community by Christview Christian Church. All general reservations should be made online at www.christview.org. If you have trouble registering online, please call (918) 232-3587. Christview will also be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys for the children in our community throughout the event.

This building was built in 1909 and this wall was the end of the block prior to this build-

ing problems to be in the house.” The only organization you need to do to prepare for the Gleam Guard team is open your door and let them in your kitchen. “In other words, there is no need to empty your cabinets, remove cabinet hardware, cover your furniture or anything else – we take care of it all,” said Tracy. The entire Gleam Guard process takes only one to two days to complete, so your kitchen can be transformed in time for the holidays. Tracy and his professional craftsmen have been providing
Gleam Guard Dust Free Wood Refinishing in Tulsa area homes for over 25 years. They have perfected their skill, timing and attention to detail. “We have customers we served over 20 years ago who say their cabinets still look great even today. It is because of our hometown people in the Tulsa area that we were able to expand and help families across the country beautify their homes, including Kansas City, Branson, Northwest Washington and Canada,” he says. The Gleam Guard team is ready and eager to make many more Tulsa area homes look their
best. There is still time to have kitchen cabinets refinished in as little as a day. Whole house projects, which include kitchen and bath cabinets, baseboards, doors, moldings, paneling and just about any other vertical wood surface can be done in three to five days. The Gleam Guard crew will be in and out, without interruptions or breakaways. Their work area, when finished, will look like no one was there. Aftercare is as simple as wiping with a damp cloth. Tracy says when people see the difference Gleam Guard has made in friends’ or relatives’
homes, they are sold. Even those considering new cabinets or refacing old cabinets frequently decide on Gleam Guard Dust Free Wood Refinishing instead. It’s the sensible solution that makes a big difference. “I love to show people how they can save money and still have beautiful wood finishes that look like new,” says Tracy. To complete the makeover, the Gleam Guard team can also deep clean rock and stone interior surfaces, such as fireplaces, as well as ceilings – even popcorn ceilings. A Gleam Guard technician would be happy to do an in-home
demonstration on an existing cabinet door to give owners a glimpse of what Gleam Guard will look like in their homes. Just give Gleam Guard a call.

“We do everything possible to make Honey Baked products special,” said Lee. It dates back to the 1940s when the parent company founder patented the perfect final touch to his gourmet hams…the spiral-slicing process. Each ham was prepared using the founder’s unique curing and cooking procedure producing highest quality, bone-in smoked hams for a truly “one-of-a-kind” result. The first Honey Baked Ham Co. store was opened in 1957 in Detroit, Michigan. The Company is still family-owned and uses the founder’s original procedures in the preparation of each product. “That’s one of the key elements makOwner/Operator Lee Griffin and Partner Nikki McAnelly hope you’ll visit ing Honey Baked Honey Baked for Holiday and special occasion needs. from similar products. Our Whole Honey Baked Turkeys are available roasted, smoked or Cajun style,” said Lee. Hams are slow-cooked for 20-24 hours with real Hickory wood and strictly monitored to maintain highest standards ensuring each to be moist, tender and flavorful. “Being consistent in what we do is just one of the reasons Honey Baked Ham Co. has remained an industry leader for nearly 60 years,” added Lee. Honey Baked Ham products are produced, cooked and spiral sliced by three facilities in the U.S. prior to delivery to Honey Baked Ham stores in 37 states. Products are shipped under strict temperature conditions and, once received by a store, each ham goes through a 21 point inspection. The founder’s unique hand-glaze is then applied to one product at a time, making sure the highest level of satisfaction is maintained from beginning to the customer. In addition to Honey Baked Hams and Turkeys, Honey Baked Ham stores offer a plethora of other products including sandwiches, signature salads, soups, fresh deli sides and specialty desserts of pies, cakes and much more. On Friday, October 28th, Lee
Griffin opened “Your Pie,” a restaurant featuring high-quality Pizza products. Your Pie ¬¬invited the community to enjoy a free lunch or dinner on that day while employees were in training. Patrons were asked if they would like to make a donation to The Little Lighthouse with all proceeds going to the 501(c)( 3) charitable organization. “Employees received their instore training, guests enjoyed a free meal, and Little Lighthouse profited from all donations made by caring Tulsa patrons,” said Lee. Your Pie is located at 71st & Lewis in Tulsa. Give ‘em a try for lunch or dinner. It’s a great place to bring the family.
