Elevated Amusement A at the Will Rogers and Wiley Post Fly-In! BY MACY GOODNIGHT

ugust, 2021: “What constitutes a life well spent, anyway? Love and admiration from your fellow men is all that any one can ask.” – Will Rogers It is said that legends never die, but it is the love of the people that remember them that keeps their spirit alive. On Saturday morning, Aug. 14, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the annual Will Rogers and Wiley Post Fly-In will take place at Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch in Oologah. Admission is free for this fun-for-the-whole family event, with something for everyone to enjoy! One of the largest fly-ins in Oklahoma, visitors will witness the thrill of aviation with approximately 100 airplanes coming in for landing, up close viewing of the aircraft, and a chance to talk to the pilots. Food trucks, a kid zone with inflatables, games, a vendor market, Cherokee Storytelling, a car show, and more will make for an amazing day, honoring Will and Wiley, who tragically perished in Alaska, in a plane crash, Aug. 15, 1935. The National Day of Remembrance will also be observed, with a ceremony taking place at 10 a.m. Reverence will honor all of those who have lost their lives in a small airplane crash. Singers and plane announcements will also take place during the event, as well as an appearance by Will and Wiley re-enactors, who will be available for amazing photo opportunities and a visit. “Bring your lawn chair, and just sit out and watch the planes,” said

Will Rogers Trivia Did You Know? 1. He was, for a time, the Honorary Mayor of Beverly Hills. For a few brief weeks in 1926, Rogers served as honorary mayor of Beverly Hills. However, the California Legislature quickly ruled that the rightful town mayor was the president of the board of trustees and booted Rogers from office. In response he quipped, “I ain’t the first mayor that’s been kicked out.” Above: Actors characterize Wiley Post and Will Rogers. Right: Charles Lindberg and Will Rogers, 1927.

Event Coordinator and Will Rogers Memorial Museum Executive Director, Tad Jones. “It’s a great tradition, and we’re glad to be able to do it again.” Since the event’s inception over 25 years ago, the event has grown in popularity, and a new generation of young people are learning about the significant contributions that Wiley and Will made to the world during their time. “Will was one of the most popular people in American history, and Wiley Post was a huge influence at an early age in the aerospace industry,” said Tad. “This event gives people something fun to do, and that’s what Will Rogers was all about…making people smile.” William Penn Adair Rogers (Nov. 4, 1879-Aug. 15, 1935) was famous for his political humor and talent, most notably as an American stage and film actor, newspaper columnist, vaudeville performer, cowboy and a social commentator. He was born in Indian Territory as a Cherokee citizen in the Cherokee Nation, and is affectionately known as “Oklahoma’s Favorite Son.” Right: Get up close and personal with fly-in aviators and their planes.

The Will Rogers Memorial Museum is an engaging look into the life of this famous Oklahoman, and provides an invitation for every generation to embrace his legacy. “He was such an amazing American and inspirational person,” Tad said. “We want to make sure he stays an inspiration for the kids of today.” In addition to the annual fly-in, many other celebrations and events are held at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum throughout the year. For more information on all activities, and the latest news, visit their website at www.willrogers.com, and follow them on Facebook @WRMMuseums.

2. In addition to a thriving film career, Rogers became known for his witty humor and pithy phrases, including “I never met a man I didn’t like” and “A man that don’t love a horse, there is something the matter with him.” Over the course of 19 years, he published approximately 2 million words in the form of six books, over 3,600 newspaper columns and many magazine articles. 3. Rogers’ father, Clement Vann Rogers, was a Cherokee senator and a judge who helped write the Oklahoma constitution while his mother, Mary America Schrimsher Rogers, was a descendant of a Cherokee chief and philanthropic mother of eight.

What You Need to Know About Kitchen Cabinets, Design & Layout It pays to remember Premium Cabinets of Tulsa during your kitchen remodeling process.

A

ugust 2021: Home is where the heart is, and the kitchen is the heart of the home. Just as food nurtures the mind, body and soul…the kitchen is the place where meals are prepared with love, on-the-go and for snack time. People gather there during parties and gatherings for conversation, taste tests and memory-making. For all these reasons your kitchen cabinets are one of the most important choices when renovating. Your cabinetry should provide the perfect balance of function, style and inspiration. Established in 2004, Premium Cabinets of Tulsa has built a strong

reputation for providing their customers with high quality cabinetry while maintaining affordability. Premium Cabinets of Tulsa is locally owned and family-operated. “My dad and I started the company. Now it’s a whole new generation with me, my wife and kids,” said Austin Gullic. You’ll enjoy dozens of choices of wood cabinetry styles and colors for kitchens and bathrooms. Design assistance is also provided. The importance of design and planning cannot be underestimated. It is key to making your space userfriendly for you and your family. They will help you with all the details including the ones sometimes overlooked. “As my family has grown,

so has my grasp on optimizing family spaces. I have training and understanding of kitchens, and my family has given me an even greater appreciation for the heart of the home.” Premium Cabinets of Tulsa enables clients to preview their visions using a 3D tour. From start to finish, a project can be completed within two to three months. As their cabinets are completely finished before installation, time spent without use of the space is minimal, and there are no dangerous fumes. Appointments for consultations are preferred, so that each client receives one-on-one personal attention. Many other cabinetry businesses were unable to weather the storm of the past year, but Premium Cabinets of Tulsa survived successfully, with

a 30 percent increase in sales. Austin attributes their growth to the quality they provide. “Our reviews and our reputation are what made us so successful,” he said. “We are really grateful for the respect of our clients and their referrals; and we are truly blessed and proud of what we’ve been able to create and continue to grow.” Premium Cabinets of Tulsa’s designs can be an enhancement not only in kitchen and bath but can extend to

built-ins for entertainment centers and around fireplaces, or storage in game rooms, and even wine cabinets. There are endless possibilities to increase the organizational flow within a home. One of the things that Austin loves the most about his work, is sitting with his clients and getting into the needs and wishes at the heart of the design. “I live by an attitude of gratitude,” he said. “I, and my staff, love making each client feel special. Eco-Friendly Cabinet Refinishing

Gleam Guard Restores and Refinishes Cabinets & Woodwork A

ugust, 2021: Fall is on its way and with the cooler weather coming in; you can finally get to your home renovation list before the holidays, starting with your cabinets. While cabinets’ purpose is functional, they remain a focal point of the home. Whether your cabinets are in extremely rough shape, have only a few smudges or are covered in thick grease from years of cooking, Gleam Guard Wood Refinishing is the eco-friendly quick, clean and odor-free choice. They are an A+ Rated BBB Accredited company and offer reasonably priced and highly effective solutions for restoring and refinishing your cabinetry and woodwork. “We can refinish cabinets that are in really bad shape. We can also clean your cabinets and give them a new, permanent finish,” says owner Tracy Booth. “The Gleam Guard finishes are available in either shiny or satin. When we apply our Gleam Guard system, it bonds to the original finish and makes the surface smooth and dry. The process Left: Gleam Guard Founder, Tracy Booth.

remarkably enhances wood grain and keeps it looking oiled and polished. Old imperfections cannot be seen. This is an ultra low odor process; it is completely safe for even those with serious breathing problems to be in the house.” The entire mess-free Gleam Guard process takes only one to two days to complete, so your kitchen can be transformed in time for the holidays. Whole house projects, which include kitchen and bath cabinets, baseboards, doors, moldings, paneling and just about any other vertical wood surface, can be done in three to five days. Tracy’s son, Phillip Booth, manages their Tulsa Metro office along with Jonathan. Phillip and his professional craftsmen are continuing the legacy that Tracy started over 30 years ago. They have perfected their skill, timing and attention to detail. Their process begins by preparing the surfaces with a thorough cleaning to remove dirt and debris and making any reparation of damaged areas. Damaged areas are treated with custom-matched stain blends. Lastly, the cabinets are protected with a coating that will keep cabinetry and woodwork looking fresh

for decades. A special over-glazing is used when you want to change the color of the wood. Dust-free and non-toxic, the process works on traditional wood surfaces, along with those which are painted, glazed and pickled. A real big plus is that you don’t have to empty cabinets or remove hardware prior to the process. Each job comes with a free 5-year touch up warranty. “We have customers we served over 20 years ago who say their cabinets still look great even today. It is because of our hometown people in the greater Tulsa area that we were able to expand and help families across the country beautify their homes, including Kansas City, Branson, Northwest Washington and Canada,” he says. The Gleam Guard crew will be in and out, without interruptions or breakaways. Their work area, when finished, will look like no one was there. Aftercare is as simple as wiping with a

damp cloth. Tracy says when people see the difference Gleam Guard has made in friends’ or relatives’ homes, they are sold. Even those considering new cabinets or refacing old cabinets frequently decide on Gleam Guard Wood Refinishing instead. It’s the sensible solution that makes a big difference. Gleam Guard often costs clients 70 percent less when compared to other options. “I love to show people how they can save money and still have beautiful wood finishes that look like new,” says Tracy. To complete the makeover, the team can also deep clean rock and stone interior

surfaces, such as fireplaces, as well as ceilings – even popcorn ceilings. A Gleam Guard technician would be happy to do an in-home demonstration on an existing cabinet door to give owners a glimpse of what Gleam Guard will look like in their homes.

What procedure did you have done? I had the Kyphoplasty! It has helped!

What was your experience like? It worked well. Not having the problems that I was. We have a few more treatments to go. I really wish that I had known about Dr. Webb before I had back surgery.

Would you refer Dr. Webb? Oh, without a doubt! Actually, I already have! I really like him. Truthfully, I love everyone In à vwVio°°Ƃ ` Ì ` Ì i Ì >Ì Ì i Ì iÀ `>Þo» Ûi Þ Õ }ÕÞû

Massage Therapy

MIGHT BE FOR YOU

Intuneeducation2020@gmail.com @intunemassageschool 1. You are a people person: Do people ever tell you that you have a chipper, yet calming presence? A key to any massage therapists job description is to be able to help put folks at ease and ensure they have a therapeutic and relaxing experience. 2. Job security and satisfaction are important to you: The massage industry is ready for you! The U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics projects a nearly 22 percent growth over the next 3 years, which means your massage therapy training is in-demand. The median annual wage for massage therapists was $43,620 in May 2020. 3. You have a caring and empathetic personality and helping people is a professional goal of yours. As many as 71 percent of consumers believe massage therapy should be considered a form of health care. Meanwhile, 78 percent of consumers surveyed claim

the primary reason for receiving their last massage was medical (52 percent) or stress related (26 percent); as many as 30 percent of consumers used massage therapy as a form of pain relief and up to 29 percent of those surveyed say their doctor encouraged them to receive a massage. That means you’ll be interacting with a diverse group of backgrounds, ages and helping them improve their quality of life. 4. You find work-life balance attractive: A career in Massage therapy can allow you to be your own boss, which gives you the freedom to choose your own hours and take on as much work as you’d like. Massage therapy is a great choice for students who want to make a living while still having time for the things they love.

Licensed by O.B.P.V.S.

5. You want a career where you can work anywhere: Massage therapists are needed not just by doctors and chiropractors, but also work in an array of settings, such as spas, franchised clinics, hotels, and fitness centers. Some massage therapists also travel to clients’ homes or offices to give a massage. 6. You are looking for a new beginning career or mid-life career change: Unlike many careers, the training for becoming a massage therapist is easy-to-do and does not take years or an entire college degree to complete. This is what makes becoming a massage therapist ideal for anyone fancying a mid-life career change. Intune School of Massage is a 550 Hour private preparatory vocational school that teaches the art of massage. Intune Staff will provide students the knowledge for the State Mandated exam (MBLEX) for state licensure to become a Licensed Massage Therapist.

Ave., from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can enjoy fly-ins, a car show, food vendors, ice cream, sno-cones, a live DJ, raffle, silent auction and more, all free to the public! amount available. The event in its entirety has proven to be a large fundraiser for the MakeA-Wish Foundation, and last year’s proceeds netted $20,000, providing at least three children with chronic or terminal illnesses the wish of their dreams. Event organizer, Cindi Conner, is “all in” on ensuring the event is a success each year. “This is something I get to do in memory of my own kid,” she said. “That day I get to talk about him, and remember him.” Wings, Wheels, and Wishes was created and continues in his loving memory. Cindi found her connection to Make-A-Wish when her son, Bill, was a recipient in 2005. That year, at age 12, he received his wish of the

coolest, big, yellow school bus, with the inside converted into a playhouse. It was filled with all of his favorite things. Visitors to the event can see the bus, and climb aboard and explore what’s inside. “When I have the bus out there, and all of his stuff in it, I get to share that with people and talk about it,” said Cindi. “I’ll never get rid of this bus, so it’s good for it to have a purpose, and share it with others.” Bill was 18 when he passed away, and would be 28 years old today. “He was always all about cars and driving, even at an early age,” said Cindi. “When he was really little, he loved keys and as he got older, he started reading car manuals for fun.” Bill was afflicted with illness

from the time he was born, but never let it get him down. “He had a sarcastic sense of humor too, and he loved oldies music. He was such an old soul,” Cindi said. “When I look around at the event, and see all of the people there working together for this cause, it’s really heartwarming for me.” For more information, visit the Wings, Wheels and Wishes Facebook page @wings.wheels.wishes or call Cindi at (918) 510-3423.

ugust 2021: It is said that home is where the heart is, but finding the house of your dreams, and following through the stressful process of buying, takes working with a real estate agent that genuinely has the heart for it. Tonya Jarvis isn’t just in the real estate industry, she’s in the business of building friendships. Since 2016, she has strived to provide her clients with a higher level of service as an awardwinning, RE/MAX REALTOR that truly cares about the needs and wishes of those she serves. It is her commitment to her own family and values that compels her and also separates her from others in her field. “I went into this business with a helpful spirit, and I wanted to build friendships with these people who were trusting me with one of the biggest steps they’re

negatives that can be expected, so that there is nothing unexpected.” Through her work, Tonya found that she had a genuine passion for helping other people. “My success in real estate has allowed me to share with others and to give back in a way I wasn’t able to do before,” she said. “I take pride in being able to do things outside of that, whatever that looks like; whether buying books, or contributing to Big Brothers and Big Sisters.” One of her passion projects is an annual blood drive held in the RE/MAX office, with the third one coming up in September of this year. The greatest driving force behind her success and ambition is, and has always been her children. “I grew up with very young parents, and I watched them struggle and scrape by, but my parents worked very hard, and that made a big impact on me,” she said. “I’m grateful to be able to

do more for my own kids, but set a good example for them to do the work to get what they want.” As a top agent, Tonya has received many accolades and high reviews, but her greatest satisfaction is the knowledge of the efforts she invested to get there. “It’s very important that at the end of the day we leave with a friendship and that if anyone else was going to buy a home, I would be the first name that came out of their mouth,” said Tonya. “I’m just a different kind of REALTOR; I put more of my heart in it.” For more information, call (918) 527-4290, or visit or her website at www.tjarvis.remax-oklahoma.com.
