Riverside Chevrolet Under New Management

Gifts Galore The District on Main offers personalized customer service to help you find the perfect Christmas presents for everyone on your list.

David Stanley Automotive Group brings Riverside Chevrolet back to Tulsa. By Duane Blankenship

Cari Bohannan, owner of The District on Main, and her staff can help you find the perfect gift for that hard-to-shop-for person in your life. “At The District, we know the key questions to ask,” says Cari. “By asking about an individual’s likes and dislikes, we can narrow down the choices and help you find a gift your loved one is certain to enjoy.” Lots of fantastic choices in clothing, jewelry, accessories, body care and home items are offered at The District on Main. The upscale boutique carries popular brands such as Kendra Scott, Rustic Cuff, Lily Pulitzer, Lollia, Archipelago and Brighton, which includes jewelry, handbags, watches, sunglasses and charms. Clothing ranges from extra small to extra large. Cari says you can’t go wrong with a new pair of soft, cuddly pajamas under the tree, and The District has a new (continued on page 24)

The David Stanley name has a strong presence in the Oklahoma automotive market. Mr. Stanley grew up in Nowata on his family’s farm. After graduating, he married Brenda, his high school sweetheart, and found employment with Purina Dog Chow in Edmond. When Brenda wrecked their car, David decided the only way he could get another was to go to work for a car dealership in Oklahoma City as a salesman. He did his job well and climbed the organization’s ladder to become general manager. In 1985, Mr. Stanley was offered a position with Chevrolet (continued on page 24)

“We’re bringing back Riverside Chevrolet,” said Billy Caperton of David Stanley’s Riverside Chevrolet. “This dealership has gone through multiple changes in personnel and owners over the past 10 years, and we’re focused on making David Stanley’s Riverside Chevrolet greater than it’s ever been.” The new dealership officially became David Stanley’s Riverside Chevrolet on October 21. Billy Caperton is the store’s general manager and partner, and Joe Gibson is the fixed operations manager. Both men grew up in Tulsa and collectively have over 56 years in the automotive industry.

ASK THE MONEY MAVEN STRAIGHT-FORWARD, NO-NONSENSE TALK ABOUT YOUR MONEY

Ho?! Ho?! Ho?! $mart Christmas Gift Ideas for Kids and Grandkids BY MELANIE HASTY-GRANT

’Twas the month before Christmas, and the question remains, What gifts to give kiddos…what dolls, toys and trains? Instead of the usual fun trip to the mall, Consider teaching them how to “be on the ball.” Give books about money, investing, and saving. Teach them about budgets, and credit, and behaving. Help them to open a college Five-Twenty-Nine. Make the first donation to that bottom line. Advice and direction to prepare them for living; This is the perfect thing for giving. I know all too well from being a mom, that most kids nowadays get more toys than they need. If you really want to make a dif-

ference, consider giving one toy and then one gift towards their future. Grandparents and parents can open 529 plans that will help save towards college. You can make birthday and Christmas gift contributions to these accounts each year. You may also consider the benefits of UTMA/UGMA accounts to save for a child’s future. By opening a savings account with your child, you are teaching them the value of saving for things that they want and need. You are demonstrating for them life lessons that are truly an amazing gift. Depending on the age of your children or grandchildren, there are many good books available. For small

children, One Cent, Two Cents, Old Cent, New Cent: All About Money (Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library) and Growing Money: A Complete Investing Guide for Kids. For teenagers and college students, Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! by Kiyosaki, The Total Money Makeover by Ramsey, and The Richest Man In Babylon by Clason. If you would like more information about enrolling your 5th-8th graders in Money Camp this summer or about our Millionaires in Training Program for 9th graders through young adults, give us a call at 918.272.1120 or visit our website at www.waterstonewealth.com. IInvest In Your Health Dwight Korgan, MD, and Gary Fortner, MD, offer Signature MD, a personalized care program to patients, allowing for longer visits, same or next day appointments, custom tailored wellness plans, and more.

By Sheryl Sowell Did you know 60% of early deaths are a result of behaviors and/ or chronic conditions that are preventable? The national healthcare debate has created widespread awareness of the US Healthcare Crisis. Primary care medicine is no longer based on the one-on-one relationship between physician and patient, but has devolved into

an impersonal system in which patients are seen by anonymous medical providers in seven-minute visits at large clinics. In the new healthcare setting, your provider most likely doesn’t know your history, doesn’t know you – and never will. Claremore Health Associates is working to change that in our area, and now offers patients the option of Signature MD, a

personalized care program. For an additional yearly fee, patients will receive an array of personalized services, including specialized focus on preventive health; doctor availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; same or next day appointments; on time and longer appointments; a comprehensive physical consultation; and a custom tailored wellness plan. Thoughtful patients are

taking a serious interest in taking charge of their own health by changing their focus from visiting the doctor only when they are ill, to working with their doctor to stay healthy. Dwight Korgan, MD, and Gary Fortner, MD, will work with you to identify any underlying factors in your lifestyle that may lead to a chronic condition and will develop a customized wellness program that may reduce symptoms, improve your quality of life, and help avert diseases such as stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. Dr. Korgan and Dr. Fortner are committed to providing each and every one of their patients with the finest in preventative care, state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments, and appointments that start on time and last as long as necessary. “If a patient wants to spend an hour discussing an issue, we will do that,” says Dr. Fortner. Longer visits enable the doctors to provide comprehensive, wholeperson care, rather than the typical treatment of one issue per visit. By limiting their panel of patients, the doctors are able to partner with their patients to optimize their health. This partnership enables increased patient-doctor interaction, patient education, preventive care, and follow up. Consider this. The cost of preventive care is approximately $5 a day. The lifetime cost of a stroke is approximately $140,000. Drs. Korgan and Fortner will dedicate themselves to helping you avoid deadly conditions such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease and cancer. Their goal is to not only add years to your life, but

quality to those years. “Our goal is to help patients change the way they live and modify risk factors for potential problems down the road. Investing in your health with this program will save people not only money, but misery in the long run,” said Dr. Korgan. The addition of Family Nurse Practitioner Kathilee Matamoros, who is fluent in Spanish, allows the doctors to provide these extra amenities for patients in the personalized care program. Kathilee graduated from Southern Adventist University in Tennessee and completed her internship at Claremore Health Associates. She practiced in Pennsylvania for two years before returning to Claremore in July of this year. In addition, Kathilee’s experience includes operating medical clinics in Nicaragua on mission trips. She is available for immediate care needs as well as chronic conditions. Claremore Health Associates accepts new Medicare patients and most other insurance. Call today to find out more about the personalized care program. Isn’t it time you made the most important investment of your life – the investment in your health?

‘Ragtime,’ TEN Tenors Mark Exciting December for Broken Arrow PAC Get your tickets now to these incredible shows!

By Adam J. Foreman It’s lucky number seven for the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center and Kristin Chenoweth Theatre, as the seventh season of the Spotlight Series is celebrated for 2015-2016 with “Legends Alive,” continuing with two amazing shows for December: the Tony-winning Broadway smash “Ragtime: The Musical” on December 8, and the return of The TEN Tenors with their show “Home For The Holidays” on December 15. At the dawn of a new century, everything is changing… and anything is possible, in what “Variety” magazine calls “simply stunning in every detail – storytelling at its most vibrant.” “Ragtime” comes to the Broken Arrow PAC stage Tuesday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m. “Ragtime” returns to the road in all-new touring production directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge and produced by the team that most recently brought you “The Addams Family,” “Spamalot,“ “Rock of Ages” and “The Color Purple.” The stories of an upperclass wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician unfold – set in turn-of-the-century New York – all three united by their desire

and belief in a brighter tomorrow. Their compelling stories are set to theatre’s richest and most glorious Tony Award®-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, and it is hailed by the “Hollywood Reporter” as “one of the best musicals of recent decades.” Winning Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Musical Score, this 13-time Tony Award nominated musical is a timeless celebration of life – what it could and should be! “Bloomberg News” calls it “explosive and thrilling – nothing short of a masterpiece.” It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and what better way to celebrate the holiday season than with international singing sensation The TEN Tenors, who return to the Kristin Chenoweth Theatre on Tuesday, December 15, at 7:30 p.m. “Home for the Holidays” is a magical experience for the whole family that will dazzle, delight and captivate audiences. Join Australia’s rock stars of the opera as they amaze and enthrall with their unique selection of traditional and contemporary seasonal favorites. With soaring versions of “Joy to the World,” “Sleigh Ride,” “White Christmas,” “Amazing Grace,” “Winter Wonderland,”

“Feliz d Navidad” and many more, “Home for the Holidays” is the o perfect way to celebrate the spirit of the season. Debt Free In 5 Steps Financially Fit is a column published by RCB Bank to help you gain knowledge on all things financial. RCB Bank professionals share ideas to help you strengthen your money sense, customize savings training, and provide quick and easy action plans to start whipping your money into shape.

By Jocelyn Wood Let’s face it; we live in a buy now, pay later society. Credit cards, low interest payment plans, the desire to keep up with the Joneses – the temptation to spend can be intoxicating. The sobering reality is consumer debt in the United States is nearly $3.4 trillion this year, according to the Federal Reserve. That is $10,200 of debt for every man, woman and child living in the United States. You can get out of debt. Step 1 – Know what you owe. “You cannot borrow your way out of debt,” said Geoff McGoffin, Market President, RCB Bank. “However, you can better structure your existing debts.” Make a list of all your debts. Figure how much you owe. Step 2 – Track your spending. “You can’t get out of debt if you don’t know where your money is going,” said Steve Elliott, Loan Officer, RCB Bank. Keep a log of your money. It’s important to account for every penny earned and spent. Most people are shocked at the amount of money spent monthly on fast food lunches, coffee shops and online purchases. Small expenses add up.

Step 3 – Break the cycle. “Pick something routine – your morning coffee stop,” said Ray Simmons, SVP Controller, RCB Bank. “Now, think of a cheaper alternative, like brewing it at home.” Learn to save money while keeping your same lifestyle. If you like to eat out, look for two-forone deals. Frequent the gym? Switch to a less expensive place. “Use technology to take the money you save and pay down debts immediately,” said Elliott. “Save $20 eating in; open your credit card app and pay $20 on it right then. The instant gratification of seeing balances fall is very motivating.” Start paying with cash. Approximately 26 percent of all consumer debt is revolving credit – credit cards. Sixty percent of credit card holders are unable to pay their balances in full. Step 4 – Pay down debt. “Accumulate small debt victories that will make you feel good and motivate you to continue,” said McGoffin. Snowball Method – Tackle one debt at a time. • List all debts in order from smallest to largest.

• Pay minimum payment on all debts whilee throwing as much money as possible to the smallest debt (e.g. money saved from step 3) • After the smallest “Being this close feels awesome,” said Michelle Gaviola, nearly debt free after debt is paid, four years of commitment to the snowball process. move on to the next smallest debt until debt free. banker for suggestions on ways to to start saving now.” Learn more at daveramsey.com. attack your debt situation. Promote the Positive and Pass it On Waterstone Private Wealth Management shares Character Coin program with area communities.

By Duane Blankenship Melanie Hasty-Grant and her husband, Ken Grant, are co-owners of Waterstone Private Wealth Management, with offices in Owasso and Utica Square, Tulsa. Together, Melanie and Ken have more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry. The couple is well-known for being charitable and active in Owasso and surrounding communities. “We choose to focus on the positive in people instead of the negative that seems to abound today,” says Melanie. “We had an idea with a goal to build others up. We then share the concept with others in surrounding communities: businesses, organizations and schools.” The program initiated by Waterstone is Character Coin TM. “With the amount of talk surrounding the topic of character, we developed a positive concept to bring recognition to individuals with outstanding character,” says Melanie. Character Coin is the first program designed for community, corporate, and educational settings with the sole purpose of rewarding and acknowledging positive character. The goal is to encourage people to consciously focus on the positives in others. Character Coin is an actual gold coin you pass to someone

who has been caught doing something that represents a positive character trait. The coin is a tool to help each of us recognize the positive attributes of those with whom we frequently come in contact. LIVING THE WELLNESS LIFE WITH DR.S MARK & MICHELE

Tips For Avoiding the Sedentary Lifestyle During the Holiday Season and Beyond We all know exercise is a critical component of the overall wellness quest. However, the common question Dr. Michele and I get is, "How much and what type?" The short answer is this... everyone should move more and sit less! The greatest benefits of exercise relate simply to the movement of muscles and joints and the optimization of adaptive hormones, NOT the burning of calories. It should also be noted, but not as the focus of this article, that a pattern of chronic exercise in pursuit of extreme fitness goals can trigger increased cravings for quick energy carbohydrates, inhibit fat metabolism, compromise immune system, exhaust the body's stress management mechanisms, and break down or prevent the development of lean muscle tissue. Dr. Michele and I recommend approximately 2 to 5 hours of activity per week. This includes infrequent high intensity training as well as dedicated, steady state, aerobic training. We generally strive to target our dedicated cardio time to achieving a 60 to 75% max heart rate zone. We really don't want to stray too far and too long above the zone because it triggers more glucose burning and less fat burning. We must understand that inactivity, without a doubt, leads to serious metabolic and hormonal imbalances. The results of these imbalances are inhibited glucose metabolism, elevated triglyceride levels, elevated blood pressure, and excess body fat storage. When we sit too much, even our brain begins to change. In other words, our brain gets rewired to adapt to the increased inactivity. Sedentary lifestyles are extremely

mental escape daily. Yes, we said active and purposeful daydreaming. Think of and dream of a place, time, or situation that invokes the emotions of joy, peace, laughter, and happiness. We like to call this the Fabulous 5. Putting these five tips into practice will result in a long-term, fist-full of health. This full fist is necessary to knock out the sedentary lifestyle. hazardous to your health and will result in elongated suicide. So here are some tips to avoid the sedentary lifestyle: 1. Make it a practice to walk 5 to 10 minutes after every meal. This will prolong any glucose elevation and consequently an elevated insulin response.

Avoid the sedentary lifestyle at all costs. Make movement part of the fabric of your being. When you get down to it…we were made to move, and our bodies are dying (and even crying) to do it. Drs. Mark and Michele speak to corporations, organizations, and church groups on the topic of total wellness. Energize your audience by inviting them to speak at your next event.

2. Place a note near your office or work space making visible the numbers 20 and 2. This will act as a reminder to stand up for two minutes and move for every 20 minutes you are sitting or standing still. 3. Take frequent breaks throughout the course of your day as allowed. Make those breaks, when possible, be outside. Enjoy the fresh air, see the sights, and engage in nature. 4. During the course of your day, consider taking phone calls standing up. Along the same lines, consider conducting personal meetings while walking through your office or even outside of the workplace. 5. Don't be afraid to take a 10-minute

YYou Can Taste

the Difference Claremore’s popular lunch destination The Pink House recently opened a second location on Owasso’s Main Street.

By Jim Butcher The Pink House of Owasso opened its doors to serve customers on November 2, and owner Margo Stewart and her daughter Shari Beguin report that it has been an excellent opening month of business. The Owasso restaurant is located at 209 N. Main and is open for lunch Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu features sandwiches, wraps, quiches and salads, as well as a kids’ menu and five desserts. Shari point outs that the entire menu, including the desserts, is all home made from scratch. “We think that helps distinguish our delicious cuisine from most restaurants,” she said. “You can taste the difference.” Perhaps some would think the name “Pink House” – with an emphasis on tea and an environment of refinement – would clash with boots, cowboys and dirty hands, but Shari knows from the Claremore Pink House experience that men find the

food good and is a place where they can relax and chew the fat. “We have businessmen as well as blue collar workers who enjoy dining here. The Pink House isn’t just for women! We get lots

of compliments on our Reuben sandwich from men,” said Margo. Parking is located on the north side and if extra space is need, Shari said, “The Bible Church of Owasso is graciously

allowing us to park in the parking lots behind the restaurant and to the south of the restaurant.” Margo and Shari purchased The Pink House in Claremore eight years ago, with the goal “to create a place for friends to connect over great food and a wonderful pot of tea.” Soon they realized it would be great to offer Owasso-area residents something similar. But they wanted to wait until several factors made it the right time, including revitalization of downtown. They knew where they wanted to be, and waited until the location was available about ten weeks ago. The Owasso Pink House features the same menu, including

Page 23

hot specialty casseroles, quiches, sandwiches on thick slices of homemade bread, fresh, crisp salads and homemade soups. Or, as they like to say, “same food, same service” as you would get in Claremore. Mother and daughter alternate between the two Pink Houses, with the newest restaurant serving its customers with a crew of nine employees. Catering is another outstanding feature of both Pink Houses. “Mom and I have always upheld the historic standards that came with the Claremore Pink House catering service before we purchased it,” said Shari. “Both Pink Houses have combined into an outstanding catering team. The timeless tastes of our menus leave guests delighted, and our team’s unfaltering assistance provides you with your own historic event.” For anyone who is planning a wedding, reception, shower, anniversary, lunch, business dinner, company picnic or holiday party, “We want to help create memories of a lifetime.”

He also owns five other dealerships in the Oklahoma City area, plus Riverside Chevrolet in Tulsa. “The David Stanley Auto Group is the number one volume dealer in Oklahoma,” said Caperton. Mr. Stanley and his team are committed to making Riverside Chevrolet a success. When he visited our area to start building the team, two names kept popping up – Billy Caperton and Joe Gibson. Stanley knew for Riverside to be successful, it had to be run by Tulsans. He hired Billy and Joe, who are both “Tulsa boys,” to get the ball rolling. The pair have hired the best team in their field to staff Riverside. “Customer service isn’t just a department with us,” said Caperton. “Customer satisfaction is the very foundation upon which the success of Riverside is built, ensuring every person’s experience will be a pleasant one.” Riverside Chevrolet employees are friendly and helpful. RReason for the Season King of Kings Lutheran Church presents its 9th annual Live Nativity December 12 and 13.

By Sheryl Sowell As we prepare to spend the next month decorating our homes and Christmas trees and purchasing gifts for loved ones, King of Kings Lutheran Church in Glenpool calls us all to remember the true purpose of the Christmas season. In an effort to carry out the mission to celebrate the birth of Christ, King of Kings will be presenting a Live Nativity event on Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each night, in the field just southeast of 151st Street and Highway 75. Complete with costumed

actors, sheep, camels, a donkey and a stable, the Live Nativity depicts the story of Christ’s birth from the angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary, through the arrival of the three wise men. Pastor Rick Tabisz will narrate the Christmas story while the actors illustrate the journey, conflicts and celebration the family experiences. At the end of the presentation, audience members are invited to sing “Silent Night” and warm up with hot cocoa and cookies while petting the animals and visiting with the cast. “The Live Nativity is a simple reenactment of the birth of Christ that everyone in the family will

enjoy. Several families have told me they make this a part of their Christmas traditions every year,” said Pat Bartley, co-chair of the public relations committee. “When we all sing together at the end of the performance, it creates a truly beautiful, peaceful feeling within.” The presentation lasts about 30 minutes and is performed regardless of the plunging temperatures. Seating is provided, but Bartley urges spectators, “Please dress appropriately and bring blankets. The metal bleachers are very cold.” The Live Nativity takes place on 13 acres located on the southeast side of Highway 75 and 151st Street in

Glenpool. Please arrive early to find seating. Porta-Potties will also be available. This is the ninth year King of Kings Lutheran Church has presented the Live Nativity. “We are a missionary church,” Bartley says. “This is our small way of sharing Christ’s love with the community. Our goal is to capture the feel of our Savior’s birth. It isn’t about commercialization; it is about the simplicity and the joy of the occasion.” This project is free to the community, and funding comes from both the congregation and Thrivent Financial, an organization that does much

more than offer financial services. They also provide outreach opportunities that enable members to help their communities and congregations. Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) has also given a grant as part of its mission to support congregations in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod as they carry out witness and mercy work in their communities. “The entire presentation is a testament to the season. The volunteerism that it requires is truly indicative of the Christmas spirit,” says Bartley. “We look forward to you joining with us in thanksgiving as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ: Son of God, King of Kings, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, and yes, the real ‘reason for this season’ of Christmas.”

The Greatest Story Ever Told T The 17th annual Bethlehem Walk, a free guided outdoor walk through an exciting and realistic nativity, will be held December 3-6 at Christview Christian Church.

By Vicky Bowlin Experience the true story of Christmas at Christview Christian Church’s Bethlehem Walk, a free outdoor walk through a living nativity. Christview Christian Church, located at 2525 S. Garnett in Tulsa, is pleased to present the 17th annual Bethlehem Walk to the community. The Bethlehem Walk is a 45-minute guided outdoor walking tour through

an exciting and realistic nativity scene. The path is lighted, and golf carts are available for those who are handicapped or disabled. Performances will be held Thursday and Friday, December 3 and 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The presentation features a cast of more than 150 authentically dressed Roman soldiers, beggars, lepers, heavenly

angels, shepherds, and Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child. The church maintains a costume room with hundreds of costumes made as authentically as possible. Live camels, sheep and donkeys add to the authenticity of the greatest story ever told. Reservations are requested, and large groups are welcome. Admission is free. The Bethlehem Walk attracts thousands of attendees each year from a multistate area. Individuals and groups congregate in the church’s auditorium. Everyone is assigned to a family and a guide who is also the “family head.” Some participants will be given Roman coins to pay taxes with as they enter Nazareth. You may even be hassled by Roman guards along the road as you march to Bethlehem. You will soon figure out, everyone becomes part of the production. A tax collector receives your family’s taxes, and your family representative will be asked to “make his mark” in the record book. Don’t try to hold back any coins

for yourself – tax collectors can get nasty! Along your route, you will encounter angels with silvery white robes and shepherds kneeling in fields. You will visit three wise men and their camels, and will be asked if you have seen the star in the east. As you enter the bazaar, you will enjoy tasting some of the food samples. The bazaar area houses several shops with baskets, jewelry, fruit and nuts, rugs and more. Half the fun of the evening is interacting with the characters, especially when the shepherds invite you to join them at their camp to enjoy their nice warm fire. As you journey on, you will likely see beggars and lepers. Please don’t touch! To do so is “punishable by death.” You will discover that there are no rooms available in Bethlehem. One innkeeper announces that he actually put up a man and his wife with child in a stable down the street. It was the last available vacancy in the city. Near the end of your walk, you will fast-forward 33 years as you encounter three crosses on a hillside and visit the tomb area where the body of Christ the Savior has gone missing. An angel

will appear and read from the scripture. At the conclusion of your walk, you are invited back to Fellowship Hall, where you will visit homes and courtyards of ancient times. Children may make a fabric doll, play games and pet farm animals, while everyone is welcome to enjoy cider and cookies. The evening is entertaining and educational for all, plus a tremendous outreach to the Tulsa community by Christview Christian Church. All general reservations should be made online at www.christview.org. If you have trouble registering online, please call (918) 232-3587. Christview will also be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys for the children in our community throughout the event. For more information, contact

Comfort and Luxury for Your Feet Find perfect gifts for shoe lovers at Felts Shoes in Ne-Mar.

By Sheryl Sowell Are you making your Christmas list and checking it twice? Chances are, you have a few names left on your holiday shopping list, and the remaining names are the cream of the crop – the loved ones you need to find really amazing gifts for. If you’re searching for an extra-special gift that will be used regularly and is trendy yet practical, you’re in luck. According to Mary Ellenburg, manager of Felts Shoes in Claremore’s Ne-Mar Shopping Center, UGG Australian sheepskin boots are the “it” footwear item this holiday season – for women, men, teens and children. “UGGs continue to be popular year after year,” says Mary, who has been with Felts for 14 years. She and fellow employee Jason Skinner are happy to help customers find the perfect gift and fit. What makes UGG boots so special? It’s all about the comfort and luxury of sheepskin. UGG boots are made with only the highest quality leather and suede, as well as the finest Grade-A sheepskin available. Grade-A sheepskin is extremely dense and soft, providing a more comfortable and durable material. Lesser quality material and synthetics can be coarse, scratchy and non-breathable, but the sheepskin in UGGs breathes naturally, wicking away moisture and allowing air to circulate freely. “UGG boots really are a perfect

Christmas gift,” says Mary. “They keep your feet dry and consistent with your body temperature, so you can wear them year-round.” UGGs are meant to be worn without socks since sheepskin is naturally thermostatic. While you’re wearing sheepskin, it is automatically regulating your body temperature throughout the day, keeping your bare feet close to your natural body temperature regardless of the temperature outside. UGGs are specially designed to be incredibly

comfortable during both winter and summer. UGG footwear should be snug, but not uncomfortable. UGG twin-faced boots will give a bit as they mold to your feet. “I can help you determine the right size to get,” says Mary. “We carry children’s size 11 to adult sizes, with a variety of colors and styles available. We offer boots as well as house shoes.” Other popular boots available at Felts include Born, Clarks, Corkys and Madden

Girl. For those who love boots in rich, premium leathers and artisan detailing, the Born brand’s handcrafted styles are still attracting an intensely loyal following among those seeking beauty and comfort. Felts carries a variety of colors and styles. For those who like boots that never go out of style, Mary recommends boots from Clarks, while the Madden Girl brand follows the latest trends in footwear fashion. Corkys is another popular brand geared more toward those on a budget. Felts also offers Converse,

Skechers and Sanuk. New to the store this year is Under Armour athletic shoes. “We always have a great rack sale also,” adds Jason. If you are looking for something other than footwear for your Christmas gift giving, Felts has a wide variety of Oakley sunglasses for men and women. “We pride ourselves in offering great service and products to the families of Claremore and Rogers County,” adds Mary. “We want people to be happy with their purchase so they keep coming back.” For added convenience to customers, Felts Shoes also has a year-round layaway plan. With 25 percent down and a payment every 30 days, layaway may be a good option for some families. “If nothing else, layaway is a great hiding place for your Christmas gifts.” To keep up with new arrivals, find the store on Facebook at Felts Shoes – Claremore.

Vast Selection, Outstanding Customer Service Owasso Liquor & Wine has the spirits you need for the holiday season.

By Jim Butcher With more than 10,000 square feet of floor space, Owasso Liquor & Wine features a vast selection of beer, wine and liquor to fit every occasion, menu and budget. Andy O’Neal, who runs the business with his twin brother, Scott, in a familyowned and operated business, describes their store as “having

the largest inventory north of Tulsa and is blessed by attracting regular customers as far away as Oklahoma City. “We do this in part by providing the best customer service of any liquor store in Oklahoma,” says O’Neal. “The best service doesn’t come by accident. We work at it, and it is the daily goal of our family and each member of the

14-person sales staff.” O’Neal wants his staff well-trained and to have a deep desire to work hard and build a solid understanding of beverages in order to answer customer questions and meet their needs. That need may be simple as taking the customer to a specific beverage in the huge store or creating a special order for a

Owasso Liquor & Wine has been serving Owasso’s retail liquor needs since 1991. We provide our customers with personal attention and offer the largest and most diverse wine and spirit selection in Northeast Oklahoma.

wine or beer. By checking customer reviews on Facebook, you can get that same idea from a first-time customer who gives the store a five-star rating. The woman’s review included, “First time going to this location and wow (in a good way)!!! First walk in impression is that the place is huge for a liquor and wine store.” O’Neal notes that this attitude is quite common from his customers. Owasso Liquor & Wine is located on the northeast corner of 86th Street North and the Mingo Valley Expressway, with easy access from Highway 169 North and anywhere in Owasso. “You’ll discover almost everything you want when it comes to beverages, from exciting imports from around the world, to the finest local brews that Oklahoma has to offer,” says O’Neal. “Whether you’re planning a large event or just want to relax at home, our knowledgeable staff will help you find the perfect beverages for your occasion.” Every member of the family operation is from Owasso, and O’Neal believes that helps set Owasso Liquor & Wine apart from most other liquor stores. “We are from Owasso and we care about our neighbors and our community.” Andy’s father, Mike O’Neal, established the local liquor and wine retail store in 1991, and brought to their management insight on the wholesale side of

Oklahoma’s alcohol beverage industry. “How we purchase and control our inventory is another important factor to the successful operation of our store.” Owasso Liquor & Wine is also a great stop for craft beer. What exactly is craft beer, you ask? One definition: simply put, craft beer is beer not brewed by one of the big “mega-brewery” corporations. More often than not, when the phrase craft beer is used, this is what it means. However, it is a rather imprecise thing to define something by what it is not, so let’s take it a bit further. The Brewer’s Association in Boulder, Colorado defines craft beer as “beer made by a brewer that is small, independent, and traditional.” When it comes to craft beer, “No one has a better selection and we have the best price,” O’Neal said. “And don’t forget we purchase more rare beer than most liquor stores, and that includes craft beer too.”

Scuba Diving Santa Claus Visits Aquarium The Oklahoma Aquarium’s annual tradition provides families an opportunity to learn, laugh and take memorable pictures.

By Deanna Rebro We all know Santa flies over rooftops with his reindeer and slides down chimneys. But have you ever seen a scuba diving Santa Claus? The Oklahoma Aquarium is happy to welcome back this holiday attraction that has been a favorite since 2009. On specific dates from December 5 through Christmas Eve, Scuba Diving Santa Claus will make his appearance in the Coral Reef tank. Surrounded by a dramatic collection of Caribbean fish that includes colorful parrotfish, porcupine puffers, eels and many more, Santa will scuba dive into the tank, give the fish some food to make them happy, and then ask them important questions, such as “Have you been naughty or nice?” Aquarium staff members and volunteers will translate the answers and explain what the fish have done to be naughty or nice. “The Aquarium is not just entertaining; it’s educational, as well,” explains Executive

Director Teri Bowers. “We want to provide a fun environment for both children and adults to learn about acquatic species and their important role on our planet.” When Scuba Diving Santa Claus is finished talking with the fish, he will come to the forefront of the tank so children can pose with him for photographs. Dates and times for Scuba Diving Santa Claus are posted on the Aquarium’s website. With more than 100 exhibits and thousands of animals, the Oklahoma Aquarium is a perfect venue to bring out-of-town guests. It features one of the most unique and impressive shark collections in the world. The walk-through tunnel and dome allows the largest bull sharks in captivity to swim alongside you and even right over your head to create memories of a lifetime. Each visit to the Aquarium on the west bank of the Arkansas River promises a new discovery as renovations and new exhibits develop. Around Christmas, an

innovative new octopus exhibit will open. The octopus is known for its uncanny ability to squeeze through small spaces. No matter what size it is, this creature with no bones can get through the tiniest crack, crevice or hole. A cave-like structure will allow visitors to watch them shrink before their eyes and then reappear in full size. Another new exhibit is the Banggai cardinalfish. These dramatic striped fish from Indonesia swim in tight schools that produce different design formations. The Banggai cardinalfish is an endangered species, so the Oklahoma Aquarium is only showing captive bred. The alligator snapping turtle tank has been refurbished, so the turtle, estimated to be 120 or more years old, is now back on exhibit. At the other end of the age scale, a newborn American alligator is on exhibit a few tanks over. Teri says that thanks to many generous donors and Vision 2025,

Take photos of the kids with Scuba Diving Santa Claus. the goal was reached to complete construction of a new Sea Turtle expansion. This $2 million exhibit will open the latter part of 2016. The Oklahoma Aquarium is also a popular spot for holiday and corporate parties. A few openings may still be available. For more information, call 918-296-FISH.
