Guardian Angels BY CHRIS PUTMAN

ngels are often depicted as fat little babies with wings that are sent into individual’s lives to give enlightenment, guidance, and protection. Not a very good image for building a person’s confidence in their wisdom and supremacy. As it turns out, however, they are very physically superior spiritual beings that are highly intelligent, very powerful and have specific jobs in the Kingdom. Angels have ranking in their hierarchy and with that rank

goes the job to which they are assigned. According to www.compellingtruth.org/ types-of-angels.html there are two basic types of angels mentioned in the Bible, those that serve God and those that have fallen. Seraphim Isaiah of the Bible had a vision, and he saw angels. He described them this way, “…I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said, ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’” Isaiah 6:1-3. It seems this class of angel has the job of guarding the throne, chatting with each other the praises of God, and come equipped with a means of transportation. Assumedly, if they have wings, then they can fly. Cherubim Ezekiel 1:5-14 describes these beings in detail. They are explicitly

designed for their jobs. Ezekiel described them as having human likeness, four faces and four wings. Their soles were like a calf ’s foot, had human-like hands under their wings, their wings touched one another and they sparkled like bronze. They could move forward without turning. One face was like a lion, one like an ox, one an eagle and one a human. Each had two wings and they could move to and

fro darting about so quickly, they looked like a flash of lightning. Ezekiel went on to say that when they flew, their wings sounded like many waters. Genesis 3:24 states that God stationed in the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword and assigned the task to guard the way to the tree of life. It states that the angel could navigate in any direction without turning, making it a well-equipped and capable guard. Archangel Two archangels were mentioned in the Bible by name. One was Michael, and his job was to be a warrior. In Revelation 12:7, it states Michael and his angels were fighting in heaven against an enemy and its angels. A second archangel mentioned by name was Gabriel. Communication was his line of work. Being the lead angel in that area, he delivered messages from God to humans. He had a message for Zechariah. In Luke 1:19, it states, “And the angel answered him, ‘I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.’” Who couldn’t use some good news? Angels On the lower end of the food chain are angels. It appears there are two kinds, the ones that wear the white hats – the good guys – and the ones in the black hats. The Bible is a little vague about this general angel category, but it appears these angels are not referred to by name. Focusing on the good guys, their main job is to minister to God’s people with a variety of errands such as delivering messages from God, executing miracles, and at times facilitating acts of judgment. These angels appear to individuals using a human form. Many times, folks don’t recognize they are dealing

with an angel while the interaction is taking place. One Broken Arrow woman had one of those interactions. On her high school senior trip Terri Dietrich, now the Worship Minister at Abiding Harvest Church, was with her classmates enjoying a Colorado ski trip. She had never skied before and was developing her navigational ability on the bunny slopes. After a full day, Dietrich thought she’d sneak in one more run before having to meet by dark the group on the bus headed for home. Things got dicey when she jumped off the tram at the wrong slope, the black slope. The black slope is for the most advanced skier and is the steepest run on the mountain, a straight drop. With no one around to help, way over her head in skill level, and now at dusk, Dietrich was terrified. All alone on the steep drop, Dietrich squatted on her skies, then onto the snow, and scooted down the mountain inch by inch on her bottom. The trek downhill

didn’t go well due to the nearvertical grade of the incline, and she inadvertently landed in a grove of trees. Stuck, Dietrich started to panic as darkness began to ensue. About that time, a striking male skier skied up behind her and came to a showy halt throwing a spray of snow on her. He asked, “Do you need help?” “Ye-e-es!” Dietrich replied, clearly shaken. She explained she got off on the wrong slope, was lost, and now stuck in trees and needed help getting to her bus, or they would leave her behind. The handsome stranger, whom she assumed was a resort guide, told her she was on the wrong side of the mountain, but he would follow her from behind and guide her back to the proper destination. She fell a time or two along the way, but her now personal chaperon instructed her to lean one way or the other to help keep balance. They were alone for the long slog (continued on next page)

back, but he encouraged her along the way to keep going, that she could make it. Finally, they crested a hill, and the next clearing revealed the resort and the pickup location of her classmates. Seeing she had made it back safely, she turned back to her guide to thank him for his help, and there was no one in sight. Later, on her ride back on the bus, she pondered on the puzzling disappearance of her helpful stranger. It was then she concluded that he must have been an angel. “I knew I was really taken care of just then,” Dietrich said. Another occurrence of angel interaction was with Dayna Griffith, Abiding Harvest Office Administrator and Treasurer. Griffith was walking through a retail parking lot deep in thought about the tasks of the day when a van drove alongside her with the side door slid open. A woman’s arm was extended with a coin in her hand. The woman said in a coaxing voice, “Here, take 6

it!” Griffith was blinded by the sunlight, so the van looked dark inside, but she could see that this was the only woman inside, and there were several men. Griffith, as a knee-jerk reaction, reached out to receive what was being handed to her. Although she was walking alone, and no one was around her, a voice from behind rang out, “Leave her alone!” When that warning resounded, she saw the men inside the van start to panic and shouted for the driver to speed off. It wasn’t until Griffith got safely into her car and digested what had just happened when she understood that she was just protected from possible abduction. Upon that realization, she began to shake from fear and the intensity of what she had been spared. Living in a complex world riddled with riots, natural disasters, violence, and danger at every turn, who wouldn’t want to believe God has heavenly beings in the background of life helping to protect, guide, and direct believers down the proper paths of life?

Phoenix Seminary Research Professor of Theology and Biblical Studies and prolific author Wayne Grudem stated in his article titled “Angels in the Bible: What Do We Actually Know About Them?” found at zondervanacademic.com/blog/ biblical-facts-angels, points out some interesting facts found in the scriptures about angels. Some of Grudem’s findings may prove wrong preconceived ideas about angels. 1. Angels are not omnipresent. It mentions that the angels go to and fro. An example is mentioned in Luke 1:26, “In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth…” 2. There is no Biblical proof that people are assigned a guardian angel. It is known that angels do protect individuals in Psalm 91:1112, “He will give His angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” That’s comforting. Here’s to hoping they hang out with humans on a daily basis. 3. Angels don’t marry. Matthew 22:30 states, “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.” 4. Angels are given great power, much more than man. Psalm 103:20 indicates that power in, “Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.” 5. Angels refuse human worship. In Revelation 19:10, it states, “At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!”

Soup Season

always think of January as the perfect month for making soup since the weather is chilly, and soup warms the body and soul. This January, however, I’ll be spending most of my time in Mexico where the weather is pleasantly warm. I’ll be studying different Mexican cuisines around the country, and I’m sure soup will be on at least one of my cooking agendas. I’ve already made a lot of soup this winter, and one of my favorite ways to make it is in the blender. In my cooking classes, I’ve taught an entire lesson on blender soups and the ease of making them using whatever vegetables you prefer. Surprisingly, carrot soup is a crowd favorite, but my personal favorite is potato. All you have to do is boil or roast your vegetables, whether it’s carrots, squash, asparagus, broccoli, or potatoes. To add more flavor, sauté your choice of aromatics, such as onion, garlic, chiles, ginger, and leeks. You can keep adding flavors with herbs, spices, butter, and cream. Then blend it all together in a blender or food processor until it’s smooth, and you’ve created a soup that perfectly suits you.

Don’t forget to season it with salt, which is an entirely different class I teach! I’m sharing my recipe for loaded baked potato soup, which is potato soup made in the blender, loaded with some of my favorite toppings. I made this a lot in college and learned from my roommates that cheese and sour cream aren’t the only toppings for a potato. One girl taught me that her family used chopped tomatoes, pickled jalapeños, and boiled eggs to

load their potatoes, and I’ve become a fan. In my family, you could never add enough butter (actually margarine because my mom thought butter was fattening), which is why I use a half stick of butter in my potato soup. Feel free to add more; just don’t use margarine because it’s no substitute, despite my mother’s wisdom. Whether we have a cold or balmy winter in Oklahoma, soup will still be simmering on my stove. When I return from

Mexico, I have a feeling my soups will be a bit spicier and topped with fried tortillas. I’ll have a whole new repertoire of recipes to share, both on my website and my cooking classes, which will resume at the end of January. Loaded Baked Potato Soup Serves 4 - Potato soup is one of the easiest soups to make, and I because I love a loaded baked potato, I make my soup with all the toppings I would use on a loaded baked potato, including cheese, bacon, and chives. If that isn’t enough, I add chopped tomatoes and a dollop of sour cream. The soup takes just 30 minutes to make, and uses just one pan if you use an immersion blender. I recommend making a double recipe since it reheats easily and makes great leftovers. • • • • • • • • • • •

In a large saucepan, heat butter over medium high heat until melted. Add onions and cook until soft. Add garlic and cook one minute. Pour in broth and milk, and add potatoes. Simmer until potatoes are tender, about 25 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Turn off heat and insert an immersion blender to blend the soup

until smooth. Alternatively, you can pour the mixture into a blender and blend until smooth, then return to the saucepan. Re-heat soup if needed, then ladle into bowls. Top with cheese, bacon, and chives and serve.

For instance, during week one on run/walk days, you’ll run for 15 seconds and then walk for 45 seconds, repeating that cycle for 15 minutes. As the weeks progress, you’ll gradually increase time spent running and reduce the time spent walking. Or you can always walk, if you’re adapting the training for a 5K walk. One day a week — Friday on this 5K schedule — is a day of rest from exercise. This gives your muscles time to recover. On Sunday, you can either take another day of rest or enjoy a walk for as long as you’d like. Also take a day of rest the day before your race. On this 5K run training schedule, race day falls on Saturday of your fifteenth week. 5K/10K Training Schedules • Don’t wait to take walk breaks. By alternating walking and running from the beginning, you speed recovery without losing any of the endurance effect of the long one. • Be sure to do the running portion slow enough at the beginning of every run (especially the long run) so that you’ll feel tired but strong at the end. The conservatism will allow you to recover faster. • Every other day you can cross-train instead of walking. Cross country ski machines, water running, cycling, and any other mode which you find fun and interesting (but non-

pounding) will improve overall fitness. • Stay conversational on all of your exercise sessions. This means that you should be exerting yourself at a low enough level that you could

talk. It’s okay to take deep breaths between sentences, but you don’t want to “huff and puff ” between every word. • As the runs get longer, be sure to keep your blood sugar boosted by

How to Create Your Own Vision Board BY CHRIS PUTMAN

here are some people who are achievers in life. You can see the focus in their eyes, and each step they take is deliberate. They know what they want, they know each move they must make to get to their destination, and their life reflects their intentionality. Then there are others who seem to flounder. Some don’t figure out what they want for decades, if at all, and some misstep time and again. What separates these individuals from one another? One element the self-starters might have is their goalsetting ability. So, how does one set these life-changing goals? What does that look like? Is it a New Year’s resolution? Most resolutions don’t make it to the 30-day mark. Is it a checklist of 10 things to accomplish

before the year’s end? Many checklists are lost and forgotten along the way. One method that keeps the goal in front of one’s eyes is in the form of a vision board. There is a lot of talk about vision boards nowadays. What makes them so special? A vision board is a tangible visual aid of sorts that represents goals set. Some come in the form of a poster board and some as a cork bulletin board. In today’s move to the digital world, some can even manifest as a screensaver. Its power is held in its placement. Vision boards are meant to be seen daily, even several times per day, keeping that desired outcome in front of the determined achiever. It’s more than just a to-do list. Instead, it’s pictures and words keeping that vision alive.

“Whether you believe that or not, we know that visualization works. Olympic athletes have been using it for decades to improve their performance. Psychology Today reported that the brain patterns activated when a weightlifter lifts heavy weights are also similarly activated when the lifter just imagined (visualized) lifting weights,” contributing writer Elizabeth Rider said in an article in HuffPost titled, “The Reason Vision Boards Work and How to Make One” found at www.huffpost.com/entry/thescientific-reason-why_b_6392274. Take, for example, if a goal-setter wants to finish a degree, perhaps they may include on his or her vision board a photo of the university campus of their choice, a mockup of a diploma, a picture of a graduate, and words like “Congratulations!” They may even include a photo of someone working in their desired new post-graduate career. What if someone has already achieved the goal, but they want a do-over? Example: If a self-starter has earned a big bonus each year for the past two years but wants to obtain that same financial reward for next year. No problem. Repeat goals are allowed. Convinced that a vision board is a right fit for 2021 goal setting? Then here’s how to get started.

Step One Before launching into the mechanics of building a vision board, a goal-oriented individual should take a moment to reflect and ask what they really want to change about their life: relationships, finances, career, travel, home improvement, education, hobbies, or fitness. Once a realistic goal has been identified, then it’s time to move on to the fun part, cutting and pasting.

Step Two Dig out the magazines, scissors, glue, and backboard. If you’re all about digital images, then print images from social media, Pinterest, or some royalty-free photo sites like unsplash.com or Pixabay.com. Don’t rush through the process. This is a life-changing exercise. Allow a couple of quiet hours, and put on some mood music, and dive in.

Step Three Once the vision board is finished to satisfaction, then place it where it can be seen daily. Be certain of this: what someone focuses on grows. What happens when the goals are met? Review life every so often— perhaps at each year’s end—and design a new board with new goals. If blank space is allowed between the pictures and words, then that area allows room for growth along the way. Retired consultant and small business owner Patricia Highland is looking forward to an upcoming vision board workshop at a Broken Arrow church women’s group. “[I will be] obtaining a

new practical tool which will serve as a daily reminder of my personal hopes, dreams, and goals for 2021,” Highland said. “My personal goals will formulate from my desire to walk in a committed and deeper relationship with Christ specifically ministering to the practical needs of those I encounter, both inside and outside of my local church, Abiding Harvest.” Memphis based Visionary Strategist Trecie Williams runs her sole proprietorship Envision That! with heart. She desires to help those that struggle to find direction and purpose in their lives. Her services include vision board seminars/workshops, vision parties, vision coaching, purpose dates, custom videos, custom vision boards, and even custom vision books. She has plenty of experience with hundreds of vision boards under her belt. Her business was a springboard from an experience with her first personal vision board in 2012. She accomplished every goal posted. With that success, a desire grew within her to help others find their own vision for their lives. “God created us and knows us better than we know ourselves,” Williams said. “He has something special for each one of us to do during our time on earth. When we stand before Him, He will ask us if we did them. We want to be able to say that we did. One exercise I do with my clients is a purpose date with the Lord. We ask Him specific questions about His vision for various areas of their lives: family, career, finances and next steps. These answers form the basis for their vision boards. Vision boards are a hot commodity right now. With COVID, job losses, and general upheaval, how can anyone have a firm grasp for the direction in their lives? In such a topsy turvy world, it takes a little help. Vision boards can be just the tool needed to get on track. In the November 24th, 2019 article “How to Make a Vision Board” at christinekane.com/ how-to-make-a-vision-board/, Christine Kane gives some tips that might help. She says there are three types of vision boards. The “I Know Exactly What I Want” Vision Board. She says to pattern off this type of board if: • The goal-setter is certain of their goals. • Someone wants to change their environment. • There is something tangible that to goal-setter wants, such as a house, car, new job, etc. The second type of board she says to pattern from is the “Opening and Allowing” board. Follow this format if: • Someone is uncertain of their direction • The goal-setter is experiencing depression or grief • Someone wants a change in their life but uncertain how to make that happen Finally, there is the “Theme” vision board. Kane says to pattern off this type of board if: • The goal setting is having a major life event like a birthday, or it’s the start of a new year • Someone is focusing on one specific element of life such as relationships or career “The Bible says to ‘write your vision and make it plain,” comedian, television presenter, broadcaster and author Steve Harvey said in Harvey’s Hundreds at steveharvey.com/make-avision-board/. “If you’re not using a vision board to achieve your dreams…start.”

Today’s Science: Solutions for Back Pain What is Kyphoplasty? Does it Relieve Chronic Back Pain? Why are Vertebral Compression Fractures (VCF) important?

A vertebral compression fracture is often the first sign of osteoporosis, but they are usually missed by imaging. For example, 86% of VCFs are missed on advanced CT. VCFs are also associated with high rates of death if left untreated. A recent analysis of the entire Medicare data set showed that for patients with a VCF, only 15% will survive 10 years. However, the same analysis showed that kyphoplasty more than doubles the survival rate of these patients.

What is Kyphoplasty?

Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that quickly repairs vertebral compression fractures (VCF) and restores structural integrity to broken vertebral bone. Kyphoplasty is an outpatient procedure that uses a cavity creation device (usually a balloon) to create a space in the broken vertebra which is then filled with a special bone cement to stabilize the fracture and reduce pain.

How does Kyphoplasty help?

The goal of kyphoplasty is to restore the broken vertebra to a more normal height and to fix the pain caused by the fracture. When a vertebral fracture occurs, it most commonly presents as an acute worsening of chronic lower back pain. Many times the patient’s chronic back pain is getting worse, but it’s actually due to a recent fracture. Many of our patients experience immediate pain relief following kyphoplasty. It can help relieve pain by stabilizing the fracture. Improved mobility results because of decreased pain levels.

What happens during the Kyphoplasty procedure?

• Needle Placement - Under IV sedation and using x-ray guidance, a

pencil-sized needle is placed through a small (quarter-inch) incision and a working channel is made in the fractured vertebral body. Cavity Created – A balloon is generally used to create a space and to reduce the fracture to more anatomic alignment. Devices Removed – The balloon is deflated, leaving a cavity in the vertebral body. Fracture Stabilized – The cavity is filled with bone cement to stabilize the fracture. Once filled, the incision is closed. End of Procedure – With the process completed, an internal cast is now in place. This stabilizes the vertebral body and provides rapid mobility and pain relief. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and has a short recovery time, usually a couple of days for most patients.

After Kyphoplasty

Patients treated with balloon kyphoplasty have significantly better outcomes in terms of pain reduction, quality of life, function and mobility both initially at one month, and throughout the months and years after treatment. 94% have complete or significant pain reduction and 67% have improved mobility. While kyphoplasty is highly effective for improving mobility and decreasing pain in patients with spinal fractures, it does not treat the underlying osteoporosis itself. It’s important for your doctor to treat the underlying bone disease (osteoporosis) causing the fractures. This decreases the risk of future fractures and generally makes spinal fractures less frequent.

Kyphoplasty vs. Vertebroplasty

Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty are both medical procedures designed to treat pain associated with vertebral compression fractures. The main difference is vertebroplasty does not create a cavity and there is higher likelihood of cement leakage. Kyphoplasty has a significantly lower complication rate compared to verteboplasty and more than doubles the 10-year survival rate in patients over 65.

hat can turn someone who is amiable by nature into someone who is confrontational, have unpredictable mood swings, and even become violent for no apparent reason? It can result in more traffic accidents, increased suicides, and can even fill a hospital nursery. What is this powerful culprit that is so invasive and, at worst, even be destructive? A full moon. In the days of old, it was thought that people were driven crazy by a full moon. Even the word “lunatic” is taken from the Latin word “luna,” which means “moon.” In a Reader’s Digest article, “Seven Ways a Full Moon Can Mess with Your Emotions,” found at https:// www.rd.com/list/full-moonastrology/, writer Taylor Markarian quotes Astrologer Athena Perrakis, Ph.D. “The full moon affects our bodies, and it affects the oceans,” Perrakis said. “Since our bodies are made up, proportionally, of so much water, it’s easy to understand how the moon would pull us and sway us just like the ocean.” It makes sense when thinking about it. When the moon is full, it is what one might think of as an emotional high tide and can cause

erratic behavior. Really? Does the moon have that much power over mankind? There are many myths about this celestial body, and it has been blamed for many unjustified wrongdoings. Increase fertility. 3. Trigger epileptic seizures. 4. Cause sleep deprivation. 5. Make someone crazy. 6. Cause animal attacks. 7. Cause blood loss during surgery.

Pet owners are the ones that will witness firsthand a noticeable change in behavior. any don’t realize that people get a lot done during their sleep. They tend to clean house, so to speak, of emotions that have been in play during their day. It’s an overnight therapy session of sorts, and it’s a time to file away those memories made. Most of the psychological work is done during those mysterious minutes call REM or rapid eye movement phase of sleep. Bottom line, what is that nighttime movie being watched in our head? Basically, sleepers tend to use elements familiar in everyday life—places, people and settings—and add a pinch of the magical. Dream storylines often mix in symbolism into the recipe that often leaves the dreamer a little puzzled of its meaning upon waking. That’s when dream dictionaries tend to help decode what is being communicated. According to dreamdictionary. org, dreams are a series of images, emotions and sensations that occur in minds as people sleep. Dreams that take place during the low activity of sleep aren’t as impactful and are less likely to be remembered. Those that occur during the REM stage of sleep are the ones that are the stories sleepers tend to remember. Some of the most common dream symbols are: • Snakes – These slithering reptiles usually don’t play a pleasant or welcome role in dreams. Brains are hard-wired to have a fear of snakes, so they are usually role cast to be the bad guy in the story. It can communicate that there is a threat in awake

life or that there is a character someone would need to be aware and cautious of. Teeth dreams – These dreams usually play out as teeth falling out, breaking off, being pulled or rotting. Teeth dreams may be exposing insecurities or fears of failure since teeth are connected to a person’s image. After all, what does a person show first when meeting someone? A smile. Water – When water is the focus of a dream, it is more than likely representing emotions. Falling – Some interpret falling to mean they are not feeling grounded in their lives. Reportedly, this dream occurs about five times in an average person’s life. Car – The road being driven is symbolic of the life path being traveled. The car represents the current mental and physical self in the dream: state of mind, condition of relationships, spiritual connection and/or physical condition. Test – Test dreams are the most common dreams on record. They carry with them a sense of pressure, a fear of running out of time or a sense of being unprepared. Easy enough to guess, the emotions of these dreams are reflective of how someone may feel in their current state of affairs in life. Naked – In these dreams, the sleeper discovers they have no clothes on in public and seek to cover themselves. Naked dreams send the message that the dreamer feels vulnerable or exposed and wants to cover the source of that emotion. Chased – This kind of dream

can go one of two ways. Is the sleeper running from something about themselves? Or is the dreamer running from something in their awake life they are trying to avoid. Women or those who suffer from PTSD due to their innate vulnerability tend to experience chase dreams. Some interesting facts about dreams are: • Babies don’t dream about themselves. That starts at about age three. • Blind people dream. • Not all dreams are in color; some are in black and white. • Dreams prevent psychosis. Ninety percent of dream recall evaporates within the first 60 seconds of waking. Journaling dreams helps a sleeper develop the ability to remember their dreams and maybe even experience richer dreams when they jot down what they can recall upon waking. It is told that once this skill is developed, then a dreamer can write multiple pages about their dreams. Some dreams are warnings for future events that, if heed is not taken, might otherwise threaten the dreamer. “I had a dream that my husband and I were traveling, and I had an unsettling like something was going to happen,” Abiding Harvest Worship Minister Terri Dietrich said. “We were on a winding road, and it was raining a lot, and I really felt unsettled.” Nothing happened in the dream, but the emotions of it were very disconcerting to Dietrich, so she just prayed. A month later, the Dietrichs did, in fact, go on

vacation. They were in the hill country of Texas and driving on a winding road with no shoulder, and a steep cliff drop off. It was dusk, and visibility was limited, and that same feeling came back to her that she felt in her dream. She

cautioned to her husband, who was driving, to slow down. “You need to slow down RIGHT NOW,” Dietrich said, reiterating for a second time. He did. They came around a curve, and a huge bull was standing in their lane. Because they had slowed down just before the curve, they were able to navigate around the deathtrap in the road. “If we had been flying at the rate of speed we had been driving, we would have hit him,” Dietrich said. Dreams can uncover the emotions that are being processed and dealt with. They often use symbols to help bring an understanding of the emotions of the dreamer. “The dream is one I’d never had until I became a mom,” Perren Day Care Owner Jerri Ann Perren said. “Tornado season began soon after Melanie was born. In the dream, there is an approaching tornado, and I’m in the house alone with her. I got into our garaged car with her in the backseat and laid across her. hear the wind, but we were safe, and the dream ended.” Perren was able to interpret the meaning of the dream. She concluded the dream meant she was aware that she was responsible for someone else in her life and her child’s safety was more important to her than her own. The Bible records many individuals who dream prophetically, and those dreams materialized into a reality. Mother of three and contributing author of a book about the adoption process, “Joy Will Come: Exchange Shame for Redemption,” Bethany Pepin had a recurring dream starting when she was just a child. As a prolific dreamer, Pepin realized over time that she was having prophetic dreams. “There was a little girl sitting in the second pew of a church,” Pepin said. “I was standing on a stage speaking, and she was the only one in the sanctuary I could focus on. She had a big bow on her head 42 |

and wavy, brown hair. That’s all of the dream I could ever remember, but I had it over and over again. I probably wasn’t even 10 when I started to dream about her.” To help herself remember her dreams, Pepin wrote down colors, symbols and every detail she could recall.

A noted detail in her journal was that the child she saw in her dream sat in the second pew, clearly symbolism that this baby would be the second Pepin child of the three girls she now raises. If a sleeper wants to develop the recollection of the nighttime stories that play in their heads, take Pepin’s advice, keep a journal next to the bed and jot down every detail recallable.
