LEARN TO CATCH
A BIG ONE! Jenks 2018 Family Fishing Clinic Sign -Up
As an avid fisher-person, it’s easy for me to say that you don’t have to catch fish to enjoy fishing. Being on the water is a stress reliever all by itself, and adding the opportunity to reel in a fish makes it all more fun. If you and your family are just getting started and want to see what fishing is all about, sign-up to participate in the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s Family Fishing Clinic to be held at the Oklahoma Aquarium Zebco Casting Pond. During July, there are two dates available: July 10 and July 24 6:30-8:00 pm. This is open for all ages. Signs up are required for each individual person who plans to attend including adults. All participants are encouraged to fish and participate. All equipment will be provided, and during the clinic no fishing license will be required. Space 8

for each date is limited, and on a first come first serve basis. Follow the link below to sign up. https://www. wildlifedepartment.com/content/ jenks-2018-family-fishing-clinic-sign There are a few things to do and know before going to the lake to fish. Additionally, be aware of all signs provided and adhere to the rules for each lake or waterway. The state of Oklahoma requires a fishing license before going fishing. Follow the link below for Oklahoma Hunting/Fishing regulations. www. wildlifedepartment.com/law/guides When you purchase a hunting or fishing license in Oklahoma, you help fund wildlife conservation in our state. The majority of the Department’s money is obtained through the sale of licenses. These monies go toward managing the fish and game species across the
state. When you provide habitat for one species, all species in the area benefit--from largemouth bass to turtles, from white-tailed deer to song birds--all species are helped. It helps bring fish species to our state that our father could only dream of: striped bass, saugeye, trout and hybrid stripers (a cross between white bass and striped bass). Whether you are looking for relaxation, social bonding, food, a thrill, or a challenge – learning to fish can be all that and more. Fishing offers families memories that last a lifetime.

implicity may not be the first word that comes to mind when you start thinking about a kitchen remodel. But, after you have USA Granite and Cabinetry out to do the job, that’s one of the first things you’ll think of. Just ask customers Frank and Belinda Rehbein. They recently remodeled their kitchen and couldn’t be more pleased. “Karen Rossi made it so easy,” said Belinda. “She came out and designed the perfect space for us. Once she showed us the 3D version on her computer, there was no questioning any of our choices.” The benefit of using USA Granite and Cabinetry, says the Rehbeins, was that they gave us a detailed schedule of the job and stuck to it. The Rehbeins were thrilled with the extra cabinet space they gained but the cherry on top, says Belinda, was that “Nothing was finished until it was absolutely perfect.” Karen Rossi, who serves as USA Granite and Cabinetry’s Kitchen Design Specialist, has been a designer in this business for more than 20 years, but admits this approach to kitchen design is not only unique, but incredibly customer friendly. “We make it so simple. I come out and measure and discuss your ideas. It literally takes 10 minutes for a quote regardless of what materials you choose. From there the customer comes to our showroom where everything is displayed - granite, cabinets, backsplash and sinks. If we don’t have what you like, we’ll find it for you.” USA’s package deal is priced by the linear foot and includes cabinetry, granite, backsplash, a lazy Susan, a garbage pull out, spice rack pull outs, microwave cabinets, wine racks, oven cabinets, and crown moldings. Most companies consider many of these items as upgrades, but 12 |

ainting your home is one of the most important decisions you can make when improving your home’s appearance. Most of us are not up to the challenge to do it ourselves; so we hire a pro. Sooner Painting has both skill, speed and uses top notch products to complete each and every job. Choosing the right colors and the right professionals are the first steps when planning to paint your home’s interior or exterior. Choosing the right colors of paint will set the tone of your home. Exterior paint colors can make all the difference when it comes to selling your home. Interior colors can create relaxation, add drama, and play an essential role in how potential buyers will perceive your home. Here are some helpful tips for choosing a paint color: For instance, consider the size of your home when planning on painting its exterior. The size can influence whether dark or light colors are more appropriate. As a general rule of thumb, light colors will make your house appear larger and will be more affected by different light conditions, whereas dark shades can make your property appear smaller and help it blend
with the surroundings. Also, when choosing a color scheme, make sure to consider the architecture of the house and the neighborhood context. While you don’t have to adhere to the guidelines strictly, don’t stray too far from the rule book to achieve the most pleasing look. Since paint chips are printed colors on paper, relying on the paint chip color to be exactly correct is not likely. Ask your paint professional whether to go a little lighter or darker to achieve the right end result. Sooner Painting Owner and U.S. Army Captain, Michael Bolton, has been serving customers residential and commercial painting and lawn needs for over twelve years. His company takes great pride in providing customers with excellent customer service and satisfaction. His team is efficient, fully licensed and insured, and they guarantee their work. Exterior home paint jobs include power washing, silicone caulking, and Sherwin Williams paints. Free estimates are always available.

Swan Bros. Dairy adds pasteurized milk to products offered BY TOM FINK

hile the axiom about not being able to teach old dogs new tricks may be up for debate, the same argument can’t apply to cows, or at least, those who work with cows. After nearly 100 years in operation, Swan Bros Dairy, Inc. in Claremore now offers a new item to their variety of products: pasteurized milk. “In the state of Oklahoma, if you sell raw milk, it has to be from the farm,” explained Diane Williamson, granddaughter of dairy founder, Harley Swan Sr. “This is actually an excellent law, I think, as it allows the consumer to see how the cows are treated, if they’re healthy, if the equipment is clean, and all that. Just to buy raw milk from a farmer’s market, the consumer really wouldn’t know where it came, the conditions of the cows, etc. “Pasteurized milk is a milk that’s gone through a process to kill harmful pathogens and bacteria,” she said. “Here at Swans, we use low temperature vat pasteurization,

“No fifth generation employees yet, though,” Diane laughed. The Swan success story began in 1923, when husband and wife, Harley and Ruby Swan started the business with one cow. As the years passed, the herd size increased and milk was delivered in glass bottles to routes in the Claremore area. In 1946, the milk route was sold, but not the cows, and as such, Swan milk was sold to a local processor. By 1951, Swan Dairy began selling Grade A Raw Milk in glass bottles at their farm in Claremore. In 1962, the Swan’s sons, Harley Jr. and Larry, purchased the dairy from their parents and continued to market the milk directly to people in the Claremore Community, and ten years later, Harley Jr. and wife, Dorothy, purchased the entire operation. In 1985, the dairy began production of Oklahoma Premium Cheese -- Colby variety, and later that same year, production of cheddar and hot pepper cheddar cheese was added. Mozzarella variety was added in 1992, and in 2000, Swan’s hickory smoked cheddar was added, with hickory smoked Colby variety becoming available in 2015. Today, Swan Bros Dairy has expanded operations
considerably since those early days, with “around 60” Holsteins, Jerseys, Brown Swiss and a combination thereof being milked twice daily. The family businesses has always been just that -- a family businesses -- handed down from Harley Sr. to Harley Jr., and in the spring of 2016, to Williamson and her husband, Don, when they purchased operations. As a steward of the business started by her grandfather, Williamson’s thoughts on why the dairy has been so successful over the decades are simple as they are succinct. “We have a healthy, natural product,” she said. “We produce, process, and market 100 percent of our milk and cheese products, and our customers know that they can depend on us for the highest quality milk and cheese available -- every time.” Swan Dairy Bros, Inc. is located at 938 E. 5th Street in Claremore. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The manner hypnosis is typically shown in movies, television and media is far from reality. It’s often portrayed as somewhere between magic and mysticism, but is actually neither. Hypnotherapy is largely accepted today as effective treatment by progressive hospitals and medical providers. “It has taken centuries for medical hypnosis to regain credibility,” says Penn State psychology professor William Ray. “In the 1950s, reliable measures of hypnotizability were developed, which allowed this research field to gain validity. We’ve seen more than 12,000 articles on hypnosis published since then in medical and psychological journals. Today, there’s general agreement that hypnosis can be an important part of treatment for some conditions, including phobias, addictions and chronic pain.” From an article in the New York Times, “Numerous scientific studies have emerged in recent years showing that the hypnotized mind can exert a real and powerful effect on the body. The new finds are leading major hospital to try hypnosis to relieve pain and speed recovery in a variety of illnesses”. Dr. David Spiegel, a Stanford professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford said, “I see hypnosis as a kind of app you haven’t used on your cellphone,” he said. “It’s got all kinds of capacity that people are just figuring out how to use, but if you haven’t used it, the phone doesn’t do that.” For more information, contact Browning Clinical Hypnotherapy in Tulsa at 918-990-0144 or go to www.browninghypnotherapy.com.

Q&A with Financial Advisor Linda Rainwater Q: I have saved some money and would like to invest in either a bond or CD. How do I decide which one? – Deliberating Debbie
A: That’s a great question! Although both investments pay interest on the principal amount invested, there are some major
differences. CDs are Certificates of Deposit. CDs have a maturity date and are used to save up for a specific future purchase such as an automobile, for example. The main advantage of investing in CDs is that your principal is protected, and you will receive an FDIC guaranteed interest rate. The value of a CD does not fluctuate. You may incur a penalty if you decide to withdraw your money prior to the maturity date. The interest on a CD is paid at maturity. Bonds are used to provide interest income. Some bonds pay interest every six months and others pay monthly. Bonds usually pay a higher interest rate than a CD of the same maturity. If you invest in low quality bonds, the possibility exists that the company can go bankrupt, causing you to lose your principal. Low quality bonds are also known as “junk bonds.” For this reason, I suggest that one consider investing in high quality investment grade bonds. There are several factors to consider when making an investment decision. Discussing them with a financial advisor can help you make the choice that is best for your long-term financial goals.
Generation Income Strategies is not a registered broker/dealer and is independent of Raymond James Financial Services. Any information is not a complete summary or statement of all available data necessary for making an investment decision and does not constitute a recommendation. CDs offer FDIC insurance and a fixed rate of return whereas both principal and yield of investment securities will fluctuate with changes in market conditions. Bond prices and yields are subject to change based upon market conditions and availability. If bonds are sold prior to maturity, you may receive more or less than your initial investment. Holding bonds to term allows redemption at par value. There is an inverse relationship between interest rate movements and bond prices. Generally, when interest rates rise, bond prices fall and when interest rates fall, bond prices generally rise. Investing involves risk, investors may incur a profit or loss regardless of the strategy or strategies employed. There is no assurance any of the trends mentioned will continue or forecasts will occur. Any opinions are those of the author and not necessarily those of RJFS or Raymond James.

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTH
Kamps 1910 Café
Three years after Oklahoma became a state, in 1910, a man by the name of Henry Kamp, arrived in Oklahoma by train. He was a German immigrant who was headed to the Pacific Northwest; however, when he stopped in Oklahoma City, he never left. From that time, his brother, William, and he started a small grocery store at the corner of NW 25th and Classen Boulevard. Over the years, they became an Oklahoma City icon well known for their quality meats, deli, bakery and most of all their outstanding customer service. Fast forwarding to one hundred years later, Randy Kamp, a third generation Kamp, embarked on a new venture commemorating the Kamp brothers legacy. He opened the Kamps 1910 Café at 10 NE 10th St. Oklahoma City, followed by opening one at the OU Children’s Hospital, 1200 N. Children’s Ave., Atrium 3rd Floor, Oklahoma City and one in Edmond, 3325 S. Boulevard, Suite 175. The Café offers delicious breakfast and bakery items, coffee drinks which includes their classic Toasted Coconut Crème latte, smoothies, tantalizing soups, salads and a wide variety of wraps and sandwiches. How does the “Wrong Side of the Tracks Reuben” sound to you? It is served with their own special sauce! It is a crowd favorite! And, last but not least, they have adhered to their family’s commitment to outstanding customer service. This is definitely a place that you’ll want to visit!

After over a decade of raising awareness for made in Oklahoma products, The MIO Coalition recognized that consumers in our state not only want to shop for local products at the grocery store, but they also want to support the Oklahoma restaurants that incorporate locally produced food and beverage items into their menu’s. Thus, in an effort to make this information more readily available to Oklahoma consumers the MIO Restaurant Program was born. The Restaurant of the Month promotion was implemented to provide additional support and recognition to MIO restaurant members that go above and beyond the baseline requirements for membership by offering a robust selection of MIO products to their patrons.
