AIESEC Romania | Annual Report 2010 - 2011 9

Recruitments Autumn Recruitment 2010 AIESEC Romania recruited 669 members this autumn in all the 15 cities that AIESEC is located based on competency-based profile. In year 2010-2011 we were looking for young entrepreneurial people interested in changing the world, motivated by internationalism and diversity. With over 2700 applicants, we used 4 selection methods: 1. Application form – in order to sort through the required minimum profile criteria that members must have. 2. Assessment Center or Group Interview – used as a basis to check interpersonal competences. 3. Individual Interview – analyzing information for the 5 competences from the selection process. 4. Induction Period – besides inducting members in the organization it also checks for integration in the AIESEC culture and matching individual expectations with what the organization has to offer. During Autumn 2010 we have only reached 87.3% of our Target of Applicants, however this was only the first time we have tried using the “Change” message as an umbrella campaign for all of our events. The “Change” campaign is definitely something that still needs to be improved, however it was not focused directly in increasing the number of applicants but more in attracting the right profiles for the organization.

Since our target of applicants was not reached during the Autumn Recruitment, also our target of selected new members was not reached. However, most of our applicants for this recruitment had previous international and/or volunteering experience. This year also the expectation of our members was aligned in a way that all of them must take part of the leadership development program and live an international experience during their first year, thus requiring fewer members.

Spring Recruitment 2011 AIESEC Romania recruited 300 members this spring in all the 15 cities that AIESEC is located based on competency-based profile. In year 2010-2011 we were looking for young entrepreneurial people interested in changing the world, motivated by internationalism and diversity. During Spring 2011 we continued to promote the core of AIESEC, as a united entity throughout Romania. The message of change that AIESEC used in the Autumn campaign was inspired by the need of communication the “why” of the organizations to all it’s stakeholders. With over 1100 applicants, we used 4 selection methods: 1. The “Change” campaign is definitely something that still needs to be improved, however it was not focused directly in increasing the number of applicants but more in attracting the right profiles for the organization.

I can say that I am not sorry I came here, I’m glad, very glad. Working with young people and hearing them say afterwards how you made a difference, made them think. How you made them more confident brings a tear to your eye and makes the whole thing worth it. I did not only change their view of the world, but my own as well. I didn’t only make my students think, I made myself think and see some things in a way I didn’t before. Trainer Estonia Villu Us For me Grow represented a multitude of feelings and emotions not only tasks and a leadership position. I’ve met a lot of blue chip people: the trainees, the others local coordinators, the School of Value members and the last but not the least the participants. As I’ve seen, I can say with all my heart that the young Romanian generation will increase in value and they will become some change agents. Let’s grow together! Activities Leaders of Tomorrow Conference 2011 Leaders of Tomorrow 2011 represented the fourth edition of a conference organized by AIESEC Romania annually, with the general purpose of preparing the members who are about to conclude their experience in the organization, for the realities and current status of the Romanian labor market. The host of the event was Casa Universitarilor, Bucharest, between the 1st and 3rd of April. The conference gathered a total of 30 participants, AIESEC members in the Heading for the Future stage, recent alumni and members who had benefited from Leadership Opportunities and / or the AIESEC Global Internships Program and were now looking to likewise wrap up their experience in the organization. As for the purpose of this project, there were three major pillars on which the agenda focused, as follows: a competence-oriented self-assessment section, a correlation of the acquired assets, as a result of the AIESEC experience, with the realities of the business, economic and workforce market, all facilitated by representatives of the corporate and non-corporate sectors and, finally, establishing the optimum field of work for each participant, following their personal and professional capabilities, discovered throughout the conference. All along this “journey”, our participants were assisted and guided by representatives coming from the corporate, entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship fields. Our speakers and company partners contributed actively to the quality of the conference program, by familiarizing the participants with all the advantages, challenges and risks associated with working in a certain domain. They presented extensively the current employer requirements and the most sought after employee-competencies and they continuously motivated the participants in pursuing their dreams and bringing about the much-desired impact in the society.

15 cities of Romania 250 delegates 50 functional area trainings

One main purpose of the event was to as well build up the knowledge of the delegates in order for them to be prepared, apply and be selected on top management positions in AIESEC. The Presidents of the Local AIESEC Chapters have also had a separated agenda in which, as strategic body of our national organization, they debated and took decisions regarding the long term strategies of it as well as received consistent leadership preparation. A great support for delivering the agenda was having our national partners BRD and Accenture involved in organizing the event and providing high quality preparation programs as well. BCR was also present supporting AIESEC Craiova as organizing committee for the conference and delivering a presentation in front of the delegates. Between the 23rd and 26th of September, Rock ME became the opportunity for our members in 15 local AIESEC chapters to meet and also interact and network, together with international guests, AIESEC interns or members attending the event, in an informal environment.

“I loved the fact that I met people with a lot of experience who shared with us their stories. It was really great to see those people who 5 years ago created the 2010 vision and who were really touched to see that their objectives were accomplished.” Irina Musteață Rock ME Delegate

Also, we took into consideration the need of the organization to interact with the corporate sector in Romania and with some role models, leaders of today. Advanced track The advanced track was built so that the members can receive useful information that will help them in the next steps they will take in AIESEC (leadership positions) at local, national and international level. Beginners track The agenda for the beginners track was built so that the new members could receive basic trainings that will help them perform better in the following period, integrate and discover the organization.

AGENDA The agenda was made up from 4 main blocks: • Training block • “Youth 2 Business Forum” • “Inspire Leadership event” • AIESEC 20 gala During the training sessions, the members received preparation on: “Team management”: how can I build an efficient team and how can I keep it motivated during the period of my term. Also, we had next to us in this event the following people: • Iulian Olariu – “Task Management” • Alina Marian – “Coaching” • Vlad Pascu – “Elegance in sales” • Let’s Do It Romania – “Project Management” One thing that makes me very happy related to this conference is the fact that we had so many partners close to AIESEC during Youth 2 Business forum. In this event I had the opportunity to meet people from companies that taught me a lot of things and that in one way or the other made me realize what I want to do in my life. Dana Chilici Vice President AIESEC Oradea In “Inspire Leadership” we wanted to bring in front leaders from different domains to discuss with the participants the concept of leadership. Liana Buzea and Anamaria Hincu, both of them are initiators for the project “Let’s Do It Romania”

“Inspire Leadership represented the path from intention to action. Having the role models that did extraordinary things, we realized the essence of leadership and what it actually means: an opened mind, a lot of effort and passion. All the members could take part in the presentations of so many successful stories that inspired them to dream more and to strive for bigger things.” Ciuciui Lavinia Vice President Finance AIESEC Arad 2010-2011

Activities AIESEC 20 - Alumni Testimonials “The event of celebrating 20 years of AIESEC in Romania has demonstrated once again, through an excellent audience and organization, that AIESEC in Romania is a performant organization, that builds up young people with great passions to change the world. This is the dream that we had 20 years ago when we founded the organization and through this, I really want to thank all the young people in Romania that have contributed to reaching this dream.” Wolgang Klaar, Managing Partner, Donau Consult SRL Fondator AIESEC Romania 1990 “The event of celebrating 20 years of AIESEC in Romania represented for me the occasion to reconnect with an organization that contributed a lot to my evolution as person. The energy and enthusiasm of the 700 future and actual leaders from the hall reminded me always to look on the bright side of the things.” Dragoș Gheban Senior Consultant at Catalyst Solutions Alumnus AIESEC Romania 2001-2004

“Celebrating 20 years of AIESEC in Romania meant a beautiful evening, with great emotions and great organization, in which I reconnected with AIESEC and with old friends. AIESEC in Romania continue to surprise me positively through the energy and inspiration that manages to build up in young people. I wish for AIESEC to continue to model people that will bring a positive change in the communities where they are living.”

“After more than 15 years, being able to attend a national event of AIESEC Romania was a surprising occasion to remember great things that happen so long time before! I believe AIESEC Romania has proven during these 20 years the capacity of bringing up people with a great sense of responsibility and volunteering, which Romania lacks the most at the moment. The new generations will grow up feeling part of the global society rhythm, they will ask their own questions and I am sure that AIESEC Romania will evolve by living up to the values and aspirations that lead it today!” Viorel Panaite Managing Partner, Human Invest România Alumnus AIESEC Romania 1991-1993 “I have accepted with great pleasure and excitement the invitation to moderate the event of celebrating 20 years in AIESEC Romania and I must admit it was quite a challenge at the beginning- living up to the expectations everyone had, trying to find out what unites 20 generations of AIESEC people in Romania, what keeps them going, what is the organization made of today! The vibe I felt in the room, the positive energy, the curiosity and the uniqueness of the moments shared by all the speakers made me feel great! It made me understand, yet again, why AIESEC is the right playground for leaders. I was very proud to be alumnus and I am looking forward to the next at least 20 years of positive change in our society, brought by AIESEC.”

Performance Report External Relations For AIESEC Romania the term 2010-2011 was the leverage to create the performance framework on External Relations. In this year we had focused to develop the current partnerships, to generate new ones and to increase the sales performance in the country. This year we took the partnerships with BRD, Accenture and RBS to another level of involvement in our national activities. They were more present in the country, their imputs were more appropriate to AIESEC understanding and more representatives from their part interact with AIESEC culture. Their exposure increased this year once with Romania Youth Leadership Forum 2011 together with AIESEC Romania 20 years which took place this year in Bucharest, at Rin Grand Hotel.

An important champter to put some bases for the sales culture was the national sales campaign with the national sales school that took place in Bran with 85 sales members from the country, both from External Relations and Incoming Exchange departments. The agenda was delivered by National Partners, National Alumni and National Vice-Presidents. Number of the partnerships signed : 12 financial 64.300EUR), 1 location (10.000EUR), 1 software(15.000EUR), 9 inkinds (5000EUR) Value of the partnerships on national level 94.300 EUR Total Incomes from External Relations on national level: 64.300 EUR Value of the partnerships in the country : 110.000 EUR Total Incomes from External Relations in the country : 58.000 EUR

Performance Report National Impact AIESEC Romania has presently 13 Local Commitees and 2 Initiative Groups in the biggest University centers across the country.

What we worked on, in terms of strategy, with our Local Commitees is to make sure that we offer the framework and support for them to increase their efficiency and realize their target objectives.

We as an organization measure our impact and achievements by looking over 5 distinct Measures of Success:

So for this, we created a Clustering Model, that would measure both the Performance and Efficiency of all Local Commitees based on certain Key Performance Indicators.

-Number of members we have in the organization -Number of International members that arrive in Romania through the Exchange program, both on a development program or an internship programs (or short Number of Incoming Exchanges)

At the end of the term 10-11 for the Local Commitees, the clustering map looks something like this:

-Number of members that the organization is sending through the Exchanges program in different countries around the network, either in a development program or an internship in one of our partner companies (or short Number of Outgoing Exchanges) -Number of Leadership experiences we offer to our members -Number of experiences that comprise both of an Exchange experience and a Leadership experience (or short Number of Exchange + Leadership) These are our targets for the term 10-11 (July ’10 -July ’11) and our Realizations so far as an organization (July ’10 -March ’11).

Initiatives AIESEC Ireland, a romanian project One of the main assets that AIESEC has is its network.

The ones that took the challenge are:

This year AIESEC Romania took the challenging opportunity of investing to open AIESEC in Ireland. The organization run operation in Ireland for a noticeable number of years but it was closed 4 years ago because of different issues that they were facing.

Vlad Fejer President

AIESEC Romania became in February 2010 the official partner of AIESEC in Ireland. First thing to reestablish operations there was to send a team on the ground for one year. One of the first reasons for investing in Ireland was the high interest of Romanians for an internship in the western European country. After one year we already opened 130 internship opportunities for Ireland and the first Romanians are getting ready to start their experience in the famous island.

Present and future AIESEC Romania Taking the next steps, further… AIESEC Romania has come a long way in the last 20 years. It has grown from an initiative driven by a small group of austrian students, to one of the top youth organizations in Romania. I have been part of AIESEC for the past 5 years, and I have seen the organization flourish and developed since my first days as a member. But I I would like to talk about something else… I want to take these few moments to tell you about my dream for AIESEC Romania in the in the next 5 years. I am going to present the future of the organization and the first steps in getting there. I imagine AIESEC Romania in 2015 as being a credible, strong youth movement, that offers young people the opportunity to tap into their leadership potential and develop themselves through the programs and experiences that our we offer. An organization that stretches out to thousands of young people and gives them a perspective and belief system based on healthy values and principles. An organization that is one of the relevant contributors to Romania’s change in good. The first steps into this direction will be made on this term. We will look into our organization, it’s structures, it’s strategies and all of it’s activities and programs, and we will also need to start changing ourselves, as AIESEC Romania, before we achieve what we want to in 5 years. For this I have a team of 9, an organization of 1200 members that are willing and eager to take AIESEC Romania further.
