GLOBAL INDIGENOUS RUNWAY SUPPORTED BY CREATIVE VICTORIA

Menswear label HEW showcases its new collection ‘Hybrid’, a collaboration with London based textile designer Rachel Kelly. Inspired by 1930s Miami, prints resemble geometrics found in art deco architecture along Ocean Drive. Prints are digitally printed on 100% cotton and continue to focus on high quality detailing in design. Purchase new styles with special offers on the night.

There is no single creation story among Indigenous peoples, although there are similarities and the Global Indigenous Runway presented by Global Indigenous Management brings these stories to life. Australian Aboriginal, NZ Maori, Native American, First Nations and Pacific Nation designers gather together to tell their creation stories through design, fashion and artistic direction. Come and take a look as they share their beauty, culture and creative practices with the fashion world.

Celebrate Australian made fashion and unique style. Bringing together independent labels from around Australia, The Fashion Advocate Runway will showcase the cool, the quirky and the quintessential look of Australian fashion while promoting local production and ethical manufacturing. The Fashion Advocate is a Melbourne-based magazine and blog dedicated to promoting Australian made, ethical, sustainable and ‘slow’ fashion. Editor Claire Goldsworthy is determined to develop a market that Australian fashion designers can thrive in. Her motto is “buy less, choose well, shop local”. #TFArunway

Expect an evening of enchantment at the anticipated launch of Melbourne luxury lingerie brand Private Liaison. This exclusive range is created from the finest french leavers lace, unique materials and silks sourced from around the world. Find luxury, femininity and beauty with Private Liaison.

Melbourne labels, Abbey Rich, Caitlin She, Campbell Charlotte and Eat Me Do come together to present a collaborative collection that is part performance, part exhibition and part fashion show. Drawing attention to the artistic process, the designers explore shades of red. Red draws attention, symbolises action and directs its viewer to come to a halt. As designers and artists who work with slower production methods, the colour was chosen to represent a pause and help us consider the process of creating what we wear, how we wear it and how we can consume more consciously.

BEAUTY ON AND OFF THE RUNWAY

KENNETH STODDART, PRICELINE PHARMACY HAIR DIRECTOR

For the third year, Priceline Pharmacy is the Official Hair & Beauty Partner of the Festival. Along with international beauty experts Rae Morris and Kenneth Stoddart, Priceline Pharmacy is excited to mould the shape of the beauty looks for the 2017 Festival. The world renowned hair and makeup experts will be setting the trends with must-have looks, products, and tips and tricks of the season. Here are their insider’s tips on what we can expect to see on the runway.

RAE MORRIS, PRICELINE PHARMACY MAKE-UP DIRECTOR

K E N N E T H STO DDART

R AE MOR R IS

What kind of hair looks are we going to see at the Festival?

What kind of makeup looks are we going to see at the Festival?

It is always nice at a show to have a surprise with hair and makeup so I don’t want to give away too much, but I do expect to see a lot of texture and individuality in the looks.

We need to create looks that not only are fashion forward, but are wearable and suit a multitude of models. You can expect to see anything from 80’s glam, to barely there, 70’s grunge to 90’s pop.

Which product do you go through the most of backstage?

Which product do you go through the most of backstage?

Judging by what we are forecasting, there will be a lot of mousse, dry shampoo and texturizing sprays.

Oh so many Swisspers blotting papers! Egyptian Magic is another of my favourites – the shine it gives is incredible. You can use it to highlight the skin, moisturise cuticles, comb it through brows, and to gloss lips.

What are you most excited about for this Festival? I am most excited about the choice of talent as more diversity in our models brings much more diversity in the hair lengths and textures. What is a great go-to look for attending fashion events? A great go-to look for attending fashion events is a hair knot or bun as it looks effortless and cool.

What is your go-to look when attending fashion events? Either polished eyeliner with lots of mascara, or it’s a bold red matte lip with lots of lashes. What’s the biggest beauty lesson you’ve learnt? When you think you’ve blended something, give it 10 more strokes. Cameras these days are sharper than our natural eye, so it’s all in the detail.

Simon Shinberg, a showman, an icon, a husband, a father and a forgotten legend. This emotional and compelling insight into the lost world of the Australian fashion industry from the 1940s to the 1980s is not just an exhibition, but a runway show full of stories and iconic moments from Simon’s career presented by his daughter Debra Dascal.

A runway performance and installation, offering a series of garments that address the way in which seams function to fashion the body. In the days following the runway you are invited to return to try on the garments yourself.

Despite the rise of conscious consumerism and fashion exhibitions, it’s rare that the two combine. This exhibition addresses the rationale through the works of five contemporary female artists: Amaya Iturri, Lynn Mowson, Caroline Phillips, Ema Shin and Bronwyn Watson. Works vary in medium and interpretation through intimate narratives of the theme.

We are entering a new era, an era of global transformation at an ever accelerating pace. Design thinking will be required to take people to places they have never imagined. On journeys filled with excitement and uncertainty, creativity and community, innovation and collaboration and fashion. Journeys where we must adapt or become obsolete. Journeys where Australia can, and will be, a true global leader. Embracing and showcasing diversity, celebrating the individual and their innate creativity and delivering global excellence in all its forms at an unprecedented rate. Fashion is transforming at the speed of thought. Everywhere in every way. Our industry has the skills and imagination to deliver and lead both creatively and commercially to meet the challenges and flourish in a ‘See Now, Buy Now’ globally competitive environment.
