Determining their skincare requirements and creating a routine based on the latest BABOR treatments for anti-aging, refining and renewal, enhancing, and repairing damaged skin, is incredibly important to Namvar. “I know that the products are amazing, I completely believe in them, and when you see the results you will know this too,” she says of her devotion to the product line and it is this belief that led her to establish the flagship BABOR Beauty Spa in Vancouver after almost six years as western Canada’s regional manager.

Following the departure of Swatch Group from the annual event, organizers “examined and sketched various scenarios” in an attempt to find the best use of the vacated space. Working closely with the Comité Consultatif (the exhibitors’ committee), organizers decided to “redesign the area in a unified style and to set important new accents,” according to managing director Michel Loris-Melikoff. “The decision was to not use the space for exhibitors, but instead to create a park-like environment for encounters and dialogue.”

The new restaurants in the Central Plaza will be open all day to serve exhibitors and visitors. Exhibitors can also hire a separate area for their own events. “This enables us to set new accents in Hall 1.0,” says Loris-Melikoff. “Baselworld 2019 will also prioritize culinary experiences and casual dialogues much more strongly than in the past.” The event focuses on Hall 1, where the highlights from Les Atéliers — the best creations by independent watchmakers — will be presented in Hall 1.0 South, which was not used last year. Hall 1.1 will be the venue for “The Loop,” an area which will present an exhibition about the art of watchmaking (“Métiers des Horlogers”). A diverse selection of catering options, ranging from takeaway to an exclusive, three-star restaurant, will be available for exhibitors and visitors. Loris-Melikoff explains: “This area will also be used for a wholly revised press day and a Retailer Summit, which takes place for the first time.” A new communications strategy, which works with innovative digital formats and offers participating brands a year-round stage for their products, will also be implemented. The chatbot — introduced in the 2018 edition — brings all relevant information directly to the user’s mobile telephone via messaging services. It will be expanded to include services such as ticketing and navigation and will also be extended onto WeChat for the Asian audience.

ith the “A Driving Force” Fall/Winter Collection 2018 carefully bundled and heading for Stefano Ricci boutiques worldwide, CEO Niccolò Ricci stopped in Vancouver for a quick visit at the Alberni Street location that bears his father’s name. A small window of time allowed me a petite visite to learn more about the pieces that would be soon adorning the eagle-headed mannequins in the boutiques’ storefront windows. Is the “Stefano Ricci man” looking beyond the classics for garments to fit all aspects of his lifestyle? Since we launched our sportswear collection, we encountered a growing interest from our clients. This includes the younger clients, of course, but also leaders that like paying more attention to their leisure time. In particular, during the last seasons, we focused on the dynamic man. I am often traveling and, in particular, it’s on these trips that I appreciate the comfort of our products. With deconstructed and soft jackets, the finishing of the leather against the skin reminds look, it’s important to feel comfortable and at ease. It’s better to feel good rather than to look good. The Spring/Summer 2018 sunglasses were spectacular. What accessories can we expect for Fall/Winter? This is an additional step in the company’s growth. We are already present in the market with our eyewear, but we have identified technological solutions that express that little bit of “something more” that we are always seeking in our constant search for perfection. The crocodile belts are embellished by a new line of buckles that were designed by my father Stefano, feature our unmistakable eagle head, and include the use of diamonds.

Members of Piccolo Wine Club and LaStella’s Wine Society enjoy several benefits, including an opportunity to learn about new wines before the information is public, and the chance to purchase exclusive, limited-production bottles. Each bottle of white, rose and red wine at LaStella receives the ultimate in attention and care before it reaches the consumer. LaStella’s name origins from Italy, meaning “star,” which can be seen on its label. ibraries are important symbols of a city’s cultural development, and are also embodiments of a city’s cultural character. Having experienced over a hundred years’ of history, the Vancouver Public Library welcomed 6.8 million visitors last year. For Vancouver, a city with only 630,000 residents, this is definitely an impressive achievement. Since its completion in 1995, the Central Library located in downtown has become a literary haven for those in the city who seek knowledge, due to its extensive collection and unique architectural atmosphere. Among these, the kid’s library is the most popular, consisting not only of children’s books in multiple languages, but also numerous types of toys, games and reading areas, turning it into a kid’s playground. Even for young children who don’t know how to read yet, the concept that the library is a good place is no doubt deeply ingrained in their minds.

Recently, good news has come for the thousands of families in Vancouver. The Central Library has received a donation of up to 5 million dollars, all of which will be used for the expansion and renovation of the children’s library. At the same time, this donation is the largest private donation in the history of Canadian public libraries. The donor is the Dilawri Foundation, a charitable organization formed in 2002 by Canada’s biggest automotive group – the Dilawri Group of Companies.

Currently, children between the ages of 5 to 9 are the biggest users of the Vancouver Library and, on average, borrow 70 books or multimedia items per person per year. Additionally, over 1100 events take place here annually, but the population of Vancouver has grown drastically in the past 20 years, exceeding the capacity of the library and restricting the development of more programs. After the renovation, the size of the children’s library will expand to 3000 square feet, adding a perception learning area for very young children, children with autism and special needs. A brand new games and learning area will also be in service. Parents and children alike will have access to more open and varying activity space. Work is estimated to begin in 2020. Outgoing Mayor of Vancouver Gregor Robertson says that regardless of age, learning abilities, language or racial background, every child in Vancouver should be able to enjoy an exciting reading and learning experience at the library. The Dilawri Foundation’s generous donation will aid the library greatly in achieving this goal. To recognize the Dilawri family’s extraordinarily meaningful donation, Robertson announced that the Central Library’s two squares facing Robson Street and Georgia Street will be named Dilawri Square.
