We present on the traditional, unceded, and occupied territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. These Coast Salish peoples have lived in the area we now call Vancouver for thousands of years. We are grateful to produce our annual Fringe festival as guests on this land. The Coast Salish used this land for traditional purposes such as hunting, gathering, travel, and everyday living and cultural activities. The area we now call ‘Granville Island’ was built on a rich sandbar that served as a significant resource of sustenance for the Coast Salish people. To find out more of the history of Granville Island, visit granvilleisland.com/about-us.
Welcome!
Welcome to the 40th Vancouver Fringe festival. It is my pleasure to be working with an incredible team of artists, volunteers, technicians, and staff to put on this Festival. Over 11 days, 71 shows will be presented across Granville Island, celebrating independent artistry. We also have even more free entertainment every day in the Fringe Bar, including our artist-led 11th Hour Cabaret.
But we can’t do any of this without you. Earlier this year, we turned to our community to ask for your help, and you responded to our call. Hundreds of people donated to help create a sustainable future for the Fringe. And thanks to you, this year we’re throwing a party to remember.
So, whether you’re coming to see as many shows as you can, listening to live music in the bar, or hanging out on the Island, we know you’re going to have a great time. Because we’re still here, and we’re not going anywhere.
Keep on Fringing,
Duncan Watts-Grant Executive Director, Vancouver Fringe Festival
Welcome to the Fringe! Whether you are Fringing for the first time or are a veteran Fringer, you’re sure to discover inspiring and innovative work at this year’s Fringe festivals. This summer, thousands of artists will take the stage nationwide as festival-goers gather to celebrate diversity, community, and artistic freedom.
In 2023, Canadian Fringes returned over $3.2M in box office revenue to artists. By Fringing with us, you are contributing to an artistic movement that has become an integral part of the Canadian cultural landscape. Fringe festivals support artists, create jobs, and drive local economies. And as always, artists keep 100% of the profit from their ticket sales.
I am asking anyone who loves the Fringe to support your local festival today to ensure it’s here tomorrow. When you buy a ticket at a Fringe, you are directly supporting the artist on the stage. When you make a donation to the festival itself, you are helping that artist gain access to the platform and the resources they need to get to the stage in the first place.
Fringe on,
Amy Blackmore President, Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals Executive and Artistic Director, FringeMTL
On behalf of Premier David Eby and the Government of British Columbia, it is my pleasure to extend warm greetings to everyone attending the 2024 Vancouver Fringe Festival and celebrating its 40th anniversary.
The Vancouver Fringe Festival is a celebration of creativity and diversity and it offers exhilarating performances that showcase the talent within our community and beyond.
The importance of arts and culture to British Columbia is essential to the fabric of our communities. Events like the Fringe embrace the spirit of inclusion and shared community and bringing people together. This is why our government was so pleased to provide funding to support the Vancouver Fringe Festival.
Whether you are a seasoned Fringe-goer or are experiencing it for the first time, I encourage you to immerse yourself in the magic of the festival, make memories, and celebrate the power of artistic expression. Happy 40th anniversary Vancouver Fringe Festival!
The Honourable Lana Popham Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport
Welcome to the 40th Vancouver Fringe Festival!
When artists dare to be different, when they innovate, they open our minds and allow us to see the world in a different way. Each year, the best new and established independent artists share their unique performances throughout Granville Island.
As a government, we are proud to support the second oldest Fringe festival in North America, known for its diversity and dedication to artists. Continuing to invest in events like this ensures that we can celebrate talented performers and their creativity.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage, I’d like to thank everyone involved with this year’s wonderful event and congratulate the Vancouver Fringe Theatre Society on this important milestone. Enjoy the shows!
The Honourable Pascale St-Onge Minister of Canadian Heritage
How Does the Fringe Work?
The Fringe movement started in Edinburgh in 1947 as an uncurated festival where anyone could be an artist. Fringes came to North America in 1982, first to Edmonton, AB, and then to Vancouver in 1985.
Canadian Fringes now select their participating artists through a first-come, first-served process or a lottery. This method aims to reduce gatekeeping, improve equity, and create space for independent artists. Lotteried artists pay a nominal fee to participate but receive subsidies that cover the remainder of the costs. Artists also receive all the profits from ticket sales.
We foster a community of independent and emerging performing artists as part of the Fringe circuit that tours across North America. We are committed to breaking traditional barriers and offering a welcoming and accessible setting for audiences of diverse backgrounds to experience the magic of live performance.
Fringe festivals serve as an inclusive space for all artists, whether emerging or established, providing a space for them to showcase their work. We aim to be a home for artists and audiences alike and to create space for art, joy, community, and belonging.

When you buy a ticket, you’re supporting the artist you see on the stage. When you donate to the Fringe, you’re helping them get to that stage in the first place.
“As an artist, Fringe festivals are invaluable platforms that allow me to push the boundaries of my work and bring it to a bunch of different audiences who wouldn’t otherwise see it. Having a supportive environment where experimental and alternative forms of art are celebrated and embraced is crucial for our survival as artists.” – Amica Hunter

How to Fringe
What’s the Deal with Memberships?
To watch a show at the Fringe, you need to purchase a one-time $10 membership. When you buy your one-time $10 membership, you help us cover the artists’ costs and keep the Fringe going. We subsidize lotteried artists’ costs, like staging, seating, lighting and sound equipment, and marketing. All told, we cover 80% of what it would cost an artist to present a show on their own.
Membership also grants you access to our annual general meeting, where you can shape the future of the Vancouver Fringe. Membership is free for children aged 13 and under. Must be accompanied by an adult.
How to Book Tickets
Before the festival, tickets, passes, and memberships can be purchased online or over the phone. During the festival, we also operate three box offices on Granville Island. Tickets are not available for purchase at performance venues.

Ticket Prices & MultiBuys
Artists choose their own ticket price (including the $3 ticket fee) between $15–$18. The Fringe returns 100% of ticket profits back to artists. Unlike some online ticket sellers, your $3 ticket fee goes solely towards the costs associated with selling you a ticket, like GST and credit card transaction fees.
If you are purchasing six shows or more, save money by purchasing a MultiBuy pass.
6 Show Pass: $87 I 10 Show Pass $140 I 30 Show Pass $408
MultiBuys can be shared between you and one other person. They allow you to book up to two tickets per performance at a discounted rate. You can book tickets using your pass online or at the box office.

Getting to the Island
This year, the Vancouver Fringe is taking place entirely on Granville Island. There are many ways to get to the Island, and we’re thrilled to be working with CMHC Granville Island and False Creek Ferries to support active and public transportation to the Island.
Bike valet parking, located behind Granville Island Brewing, is available from 11am to 11pm, thanks to CMHC Granville Island. It’s a safe and free way to store your bike on Granville Island.
Transit to Granville Island is available, with the #50 bus route arriving at the entrance to Granville Island from Waterfront Station (passing through downtown along Granville St.) or from Olympic Village Station. For detailed route info, see TransLink’s Trip Planner: translink.ca/trip-planner
False Creek Ferries operates every 5–15 minutes daily, rain or shine, with stops at Sunset Beach, David Lam Park, and Yaletown. For operating hours and detailed route info, check their website at granvilleislandferries.bc.ca
Parking on Granville Island can be limited, with pay parking available on and around the Island.
Can I Arrive After a Show Starts?
You may not be able to enter a show if you arrive after the listed time on the program. Please aim to arrive at the theatre at least 15 minutes early.
