FedEx Ground: Executive Learning Institute At a large, international company like FedEx, where executives are scattered across the globe, it is extremely important for leadership to be aligned with company’s competencies. Because of this, the executive team called on Vanderbilt to design a program that would not only inform, but also transform mindsets across the company. The goal was to change participants’ thinking about the roles of senior managers and leaders, with a focus on the three FedEx Ground leadership competencies—Shared Vision and Strategy, Business and Technology Acumen and Inspiring Direct Reports—as well as Change Management. FedEx Services: Leadership Program Based upon the success of the executive program (above), and using the groundwork that had already been laid, FedEx Services designed a program that would align departments across all service units. With an orientation toward a strategic view of the organization, each module focused on the mindsets and behaviors required of management team members at the top of the organization. The intent was to expose participants to the deeper philosophies of each of the functional areas, and then bring them together in a holistic view of the company. The results: participants gained an understanding of the long-term benefits of seeking firm-wide optimization rather than focusing on improving one’s own particular business unit. 11
