Diversity is Important to Us Here is a place where you will be challenged to achieve your potential; find support as you shape your future; discover lifelong friends and mentors; and open doors to new possibilities. Acting on Our Belief Our View The Owen community is diverse in terms of ethnicity, gender, geography, education and professions. We recognize that having diverse representation is not enough, but that we must foster an environment that leverages all unique perspectives and experiences. There are many Owen student clubs, Vanderbilt University groups and national organizations to which our community is closely connected.

Alumni Spotlight
Carolina MacRobert
Vanderbilt MBA – 2010, Investment Banking Employer – Bank of America Merrill Lynch – Associate Carolina, who’s family fled Castro’s Cuba and settled in Miami, always wanted to live and work in New York City. After completing her undergraduate education, she realized her wish, working as a repo margin analyst in New York. But to continue rising in the financial industry, Carolina knew she needed an MBA. To her surprise, Owen combined the energy of the big city with a supportive, familial feel. She was pleased to find that “Owen embraces diversity and creates opportunities for students to have global business experiences.” Owen’s international opportunities, Carolina believes, helped equip her for an investment banking internship that resulted in a full-time position.
Todd Johnson
Vanderbilt MBA – 2011, Marketing and Strategy Employer – Walmart – Associate Marketing Manager
The Nashville Jazz Festival is a seven-day explosion of traditional, smooth, fusion and world jazz.
Todd Johnson is literally a man on a mission. Several years ago, the Nashville native was part of a group that built houses for the poor in Reynosa, Mexico. “Through this experience,” he says, “I found an appreciation for the basic necessities that we take for granted in America.” The trip also led him to a personal goal: earning an MBA so he can “give back to the community.” Vanderbilt was a natural choice not merely because it is close to home. He needed an environment “that allows my entrepreneurial spirit to flourish.” Before Owen, Todd helped launch a catering company while rising to become a retail sales manager overseeing multiple stores for Verizon Wireless. Ultimately, he plans to use his experience and skills to launch a nonprofit that improves opportunities for underprivileged youth. “Obtaining an MBA from Vanderbilt establishes credibility but also creates a sense of hope in others. What better way to inspire than to set the example?”
