Editors’ Letter Hi all, Welcome to the fourth issue and summer edition of VapeLyfe Magazine, we hope you’re enjoying the sweltering sunshine. This bumper issue is our biggest yet, and we’d like to thank all those who contributed to make it such an amazing read. We’re not just saying that because we’re biased – it really is a cracking read packed with reviews, articles and exclusive features. We are thrilled to support the Telford Vaper, whose poster graces the cover of our magazine. You can find out more about him in the Vaping Journey feature, along with more information about his superb charity event. Open_Airflow talks vape photography in his Q&A, which is a must-read for anyone wanting to get into this industry. Paul Barnes from the NNA explores the TPD minefield, the Vaping Pogonophile chats about the UK vape scene, and Tommy Meharey, US entrepreneur and philanthropist champions vaping with the KŪRE Vapes range. We review hard-ware including PAX 3 and Logic, and e-liquids including Killakloudz, Riot Squad and Sub Zero. As if all this wasn’t enough, we have Sir Vaping A Lot making his Vapelyfe debut, and we chat to Chris Bassenger about the fun and games he had when organising his event, the Scunthorpe Expo. Speaking of organising gigs, we’re in the middle of finalising our own celebratory event. It’s our first birthday in a few short months (where has the year gone?!), so expect loads of vape and cake then. We’ll let you know more about this as soon as we can, it won’t be long. We hope you enjoy the read. If you do contact advertisers featured in this magazine, we’d really appreciate if you could mention where you heard about them. It lets us know that we’re doing our job properly. To those of you who have stumbled across our magazine just now – See below links to our past issues; welcome to VapeLyfe. See you all soon and have a great summer. Team VapeLyfe back issues: issue 1 - issue 2 - issue 3

The vaping community is packed with talent, and one of these shining lights is our Head Reviewer, Open_Airflow. We’re not just saying that because we’re biased – his photography speaks for itself. From the moment we clapped eyes on his first photo, we knew this boy had talent. How did he become the exceptional photographer he is today? How did he get into vape photography? These are the questions he gets asked on a daily basis. We are thrilled to chat with Open_Aiflow about how he started out in the industry, and what camera gear he uses. Living in Langen, Hessen, Germany, Open_Airflow has carved out a name for himself in this highly competitive industry. If you’re a newbie photographer wanting to ‘up your game’ or just want to get to know Open_Airflow a little bit more, read on.
WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND, AND HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN INTERESTED IN THE VISUAL ARTS? Well my background has nothing to do with visual arts at all. I have never learned or studied anything even near that field. I used to be a banker and good photography of any kind always caught my attention. Sports photography fascinated me a lot. To catch one perfect moment out of a fast-moving sequence from a complex movement fascinated me from the beginning.
WHAT IS YOUR DAY JOB, AND HOW DO YOU JUGGLE THAT WITH THE VAPE PHOTOGRAPHY? I am a teacher at a middle school and I really do love this job. I teach physical education, politics and economics, I coach the boys´ soccer team and I sub several other subjects. You know I have a very supportive wife, she helps me take care of my Instagram account and spots new locations to shoot products. She´s my greatest support and my greatest critic in one. But time is always short. I´d need a day that lasted at least 48 hours. In the end, vape photography is a hobby to me.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY? YOUR PHOTOS ARE STUNNING. Oh, thank you that’s nice of you to say. Let me think, I started vaping in August 2016 and I got into vape photography just a couple of months after I started vaping. I guess it was November 2016. And yes, I picked up photography at that time.
6 - Open_Airflflffllow
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PIECE OF PHOTOGRAPHY KIT? My first kit was a Nikon D40 and the standard 18-55mm lens.
DO YOU FOCUS ON VAPE PHOTOGRAPHY, OR DO YOU ALSO PHOTOGRAPH OTHER TOPICS? You know I started just with vape related products. After a while I took some lifestyle shots but still vape related. Just a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine who owns a really cool 1950s themed barber shop asked me to do the shots for his Instagram and Facebook. So, I´m gathering new experiences by taking pictures in other genres.
ARE YOU A FORMER SMOKER? IF SO, HOW MANY CIGARETTES DID YOU SMOKE A DAY? Oh yes, I was a stress smoker. The number of cigarettes varied depending on what I did and how I felt. So sometimes I had 20 and sometimes just 5. Over 16 years I guess I had an average of maybe 10 a day.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO VAPING? As a non-smoker my wife asked me if I would give it a shot. In the beginning I was a sceptic but I tried to quit several times and failed. I have two little boys and I wanted to quit smoking cigarettes for me, for my wife and my kids. I had problems in the beginning finding the right equipment but after I had found the right devices, everything went smoothly. I have been tobacco-free since August 2016.
WHAT IS THE VAPING SCENE LIKE IN GERMANY? The vaping scene has been growing quickly, especially in the last four years. Right now, there is a huge boom, and I see vape expos and vape fairs in every major city. The community is supportive no matter if DTL or MTL, custom mod or standard mod user, DIY mixer or read to vape lover – we´re all in the same boat fighting for our right to vape.
WHEN WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU THOUGHT ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHING VAPE PRODUCTS? Actually, when I started vaping, as that was the time when I picked up photography. I heard about Instagram and I could get an instant feedback for my pictures from the community. Basically that was the point when everything started. Open_Airflow, photography and vaping was born.
Open_Airflflffllflow - 7
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WANTING TO GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHING VAPE PRODUCTS? I´m in an Instagram group just for photographers, which I had the honour of joining (I was one of the few non-professionals). I asked the same question to the more seasoned photographers. The answer is simple: Start shooting every day. Get your camera and start shooting. There is no right and wrong as photography is an art.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 TIPS FOR TAKING A COOL SHOT? As I said before there is no right and wrong. There´s a market for nearly everything. But If I had to narrow it down to 3 tips I guess you should 1) Get to a cool location, 2) Know your equipment, 3) Shoot, shoot, shoot.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE THIS YEAR HOLDS FOR OPEN_AIRFLOW? WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE BY 2020? I hope that this year will hold health for me and my family. I know that I will meet a lot of great people from the vape industry from all over the world. In 2020, I want to be a part of this community. Supporting others and providing good photography – that’s all I really want.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WANTING TO QUIT SMOKING? Quit smoking now. Not next month, not next week, not when you´re less stressed (that’s going to be never), not when the last pack is empty. Stop mid-day, mid-pack, mid-stress, mid-whatever. Vaping is an easy way out of that addiction. I did it myself. By the huge variety of flavours, you´ll quickly find your favourite. Believe in yourself and you´ll never get back to the pyros. Vape safe, vape on. Open Airflow To get in touch with Open_Airflow, please check out his work on social media pages: Facebook Instagram

We’ll be celebrating our first birthday in a few short months, and we’re planning a very special event for it. We’re thinking plenty of vape and cake, and we’d love to invite you. We’ll let you know more soon, and we promise it’ll be an event to remember. Keep your eyes peeled for more information!

Q&A:Tommy Meharey Founder of I’M1 Vapelyfe Magazine is thrilled to chat with trailblazing entrepreneur Tommy Meharey. He is passionate about vaping and is the co-founder of I’M1, vice-president and board of directors’ member of kathy ireland worldwide. Residing in Honolulu Hawaii and Fort Worth Texas, Tommy’s astute acumen and instinct has led him to be a global business leader. Here is what he had to say how Kure Vapes is changing the vaping scene, and what impact over-regulation can have on the e-cigarette industry.
YOU’RE AN ENTREPRENEUR AND ROLE MODEL. WHAT DRIVES YOU? DID YOU ALWAYS WANT TO BE YOUR OWN BOSS? I’ve always been entrepreneurial and athletic. As a kid, as an athlete, even when you’re playing with a team, you have to control yourself. You have to be the boss of what you’re going to give. I believe everybody should be their own boss, no matter what company they’re working in or if they’re working for themselves. Because, when you take responsibility for what you’re doing and it’s good, you’ve made a contribution. When it’s bad, there is no one else to blame but yourself. After growing up, I joined the Marines and after finishing my Tours, I started working as a contractor. I was my own boss, until I met Kathy Ireland. I was renovating properties that were owned by kathy ireland Worldwide. Kathy invited me to join the company, and I became the youngest board member in the company’s twenty-four year history.
Tommy Meharey - 13
WHAT LED YOU INTO THE WORLD OF VAPING? DO YOU VAPE YOURSELF? I walked into the world of vaping because I wanted something better for my family members

my
fellow
service- men and women who got caught up in smoking, while in the military. If I didn’t vape, I couldn’t bring I’M1 Vaping to the market for Kure. One of the many things I’ve learned from Kathy, is that you can’t build an empire if it’s not real. Warren Buffett is one of Kathy’s mentors and I look up to him too. Recently he said, “Honesty is expensive, don’t expect it from cheap people.” I agree with that.
YOU ENDORSE KURE; FROM THE HUNDREDS OF VAPING COMPANIES, WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES KURE STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD? Kure
stands

companies, because it doesn’t look like a low-class head shop. I walked in and thought, I’d be comfortable with my family here. I’m engaged to one of the most beautiful women in the world, who has her own design company, Cory McBride. Cory, my mom, and Kathy have sanded down some of those Marine Corps rough edges. So, I think different than before. When I’m somewhere that’s not for guys only, I wonder, would Cory be comfortable here? My Mom? Kathy? Kure is a vape lounge with good taste. It’s sexy, it has the best Kurators and juices on the market.
14 - Tommy Meharey
YOU HAVE A PRO-VAPING STANCE. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE FDA DEEMING REGULATIONS? HOW DO YOU THINK THE OVER-REGULATION OF THE E-CIGARETTE INDUSTRY WILL IMPACT ON PUBLIC HEALTH? I’m very pro-vaping and I think the FDA has been a little out of control with the regulations. I’m very happy and excited that we have a new FDA Commissioner, Scott Gottlieb. Everyone knows someone who wants to stop smoking and despite choking regulations, we all know there is no proof that vaping is anywhere near as harmful, as cigarette smoking. If it were, with a baby son to raise, I wouldn’t be vaping for any amount of money and I sure as Texas wouldn’t have gotten my mom started as a Kure client.
YOU’VE WORKED HARD TO ACHIEVE A GLOBAL PLATFORM; YOU’RE A BOARD MEMBER AT KATHY IRELAND WORLDWIDE AND CO-FOUNDER OF I’M 1. HOW ARE YOU USING YOUR STATUS IN A POSITIVE WAY TO ENRICH THE VAPING COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD IN GENERAL? Letting military men and women, as well as the people I touch in person and media, like your magazine, know that there is an alternative to smoking. That, I believe is a much better choice and a sexier taste.
KURE VAPES BOASTS 11 LOCATIONS IN THE US. ANY PLANS TO COME TO THE UK? Absolutely. I visited vape shops in London when I was there last year and really feel that Kure would be a great fit in the UK. We just have to get over there. The work that I do, in building I’M1, has a lot of inspiration.
Tommy Meharey - 15
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE VAPING SCENE IN THE US? In the US, our vape scene goes from bad to not so bad and good to great. I believe that Kure is what’s great about vaping in America. Even though we only have 11 stores, I remember every day, that Starbucks started with just one, so we’re way ahead.
YOU’RE WORKING IN DIVERSE INDUSTRIES INCLUDING FASHION AND VAPING. WHAT DOES THE NEXT 5 YEARS HOLD FOR YOU? A ton of work, which is exciting for me. Once a marine, always a marine, so I’m never afraid of hard work. Bring it on! The fashion piece of the business is great, because I’ve modeled since I was a teenager. Our I’M1 suits are designed for our brand by Andre Phillipe in Dallas, Texas, home of Neiman Marcus. Some of our kathy ireland Worldwide products are sold at Neiman Marcus. You can believe we’re knocking on their doors for I’M1. Five years from now, you’ll see a brand that’s a revolution for our generation. As an older millennial, I’m sick of the way people see the worst of my generation. Everybody isn’t sitting on the couch, eating food, and trying to live a life out of bad reality television. Most of us know, that it’s important to make difference.
ONE OF YOUR RECENT TWEETS WAS ABOUT EARTH DAY. ARE YOU A KEEN ENVIRONMENTALIST? WHAT KIND OF WORLD WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEAVE FOR YOUR CHILDREN? On 14th May our son Ezra turned one. We want to leave him and his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren, a cleaner world. Not a softer world, but a kinder world. I think Texas and the Marines shaped a lot of my thinking when I was very young. Becoming a father changed everything. His life is more important than mine and looking at him every day, I want him to live in a world that is cleaner, safer and that has a hell of a lot less hate than we’re fighting right now. This isn’t a commercial, but it’s real: Vaping makes the world better. That’s why I’M1 Vaping for Kure is in our portfolio.

E-CIGARETTES ARE CLASSED AS LESS HARMFUL For World No Tobacco Day on 31st May 2017, Austrian e-cigarette manufacturer VON ERL. published the initial findings of the world’s biggest e-cigarette and vaping survey. This gave insights into the habits and preferences of consumers. Over 5,000 people worldwide took part in an online survey about e-cigarettes and vaping, between April 2017 and May 2017. Depending on nationality and gender, there were interesting results about vaping behaviour, flavour preferences, decisive purchasing criteria and acceptance in society. The survey was supported by the University of Innsbruck as a longterm study. It was repeated each year on behalf of VON ERL. with the initial findings being made available in time for World No Tobacco Day.
VAPING IS CLASSED AS LESS HARMFUL TO ONE’S HEALTH Günter Höfert, VON ERL. CEO said: “The vaping community reacts very sensitively when vaping is called smoking, because it is classed as less harmful to health in comparison to smoking conventional cigarettes. This should be highlighted for World No Tobacco Day.” Almost all vapers (97.2%) were convinced that e-cigarettes were less harmful to their health than conventional cigarettes. Increased acceptance has also become apparent amongst nonvapers; 43.2% perceived vaping to be less harmful in comparison to smoking, and only 12.2% said that it was more dangerous. The rest stated that it is just as dangerous. When asked “where have you had negative experiences with vapers?” more than half of the respondents said they have had no negative experiences.
18 - Vaping Survey
TWO THIRDS SAW E-CIGARETTES AS PART OF THE PROCESS OF STOPPING SMOKING When asked “why do you vape?”, 75.2% of active vapers selected the option “healthier than smoking”. The second most frequent reason for vaping was the variety of flavours (68.4%), and stopping smoking came in third place (65.8%). Over half of the respondents (50.2%) also saw a financial upside to vaping. Those who had bought the hardware (initial outlay only) could then refill it with comparatively inexpensive e-liquids.
LIQUIDS WITH LESS NICOTINE ARE TRENDY Many smokers are switching to vaping with the goal of completely coming off cigarettes. “We can see this most of all in the purchasing behaviour of our customers: while people starting out still reach for liquids with more nicotine, those switching reduce their nicotine content over time. The consumption of e-liquids with lower nicotine content also proves to be true in the answers given by the respondents. 67.2% use e-liquids containing between 1 and 5 milligrams of nicotine per millilitre. This can even lead to vapers doing completely without nicotine and only vaping ‘aromatic liquids’ with their e-cigarettes”, says Höfert.
Vaping Survey - 19
THE AVERAGE VAPER IS YOUNG, FRUITY AND LIKES QUALITY What does the classic vaper look like? The surveys showed that the classic vaper was primarily male and 35 years old. He/she earned between â‚Ź1,000 and â‚Ź2,000* net per month, mainly used open systems** and vaped fruity aromas with a nicotine content of 1-5mg nicotine per ml. The preferences of the female respondents were very like those of the male ones; only when it came to what they are willing to pay, were men usually prepared to pay more.
* Currencies are adjusted depending on the country ** When an e-cigarette has an open system, it means that the e-cigarette can be filled with any liquid. Closed systems have their own so-called liquid pods, which can be inserted in the model they are intended for.
20- Vaping Survey
ITALY’S FAVOURITE FLAVOUR IS TOBACCO, AND GERMANY MOSTLY BUYS ONLINE In German-speaking countries, fruity aromas such as apple and strawberry were the most popular flavours (DL: 57.6%, A: 52.7%). In Italy, one of the major first choices was tobacco aromas (39.2%).
AND WHERE DO VAPERS PURCHASE THEIR EQUIPMENT? People in Germany did most of their purchasing online; 84.6% bought their e-cigarettes from online stores, closely followed by specialist retailers with 76.6%. In Italy, the preferences were similar, with 79.3% buying from online stores and 61.1% from specialist retailers. Whereas in Austria, specialist retailers were at the front of the list; 81.1% bought from specialist retailers and only 42.1% from online stores. “The online mail order ban in Austria means that Austrians mainly buy from specialist retailers or online stores abroad”, concluded Höfert.
ABOUT THE STUDY The survey began in April 2017 in cooperation with the University of Innsbruck. In the first phase in May 2017, a global survey was put online on behalf of VON ERL., in which over 5,000 people took part. The analysis of the online questionnaire enabled initial general statements about the worldwide vaping community to be made. As a special focus was put on the European markets of VON ERL. in this first step, representative results for Austria, Germany and Italy were already available. In the following course of the study, a more precise view of markets such as the Unites States and Russia will be created using expert interviews, based on the results of this initial online survey. Designed as a long-term study, the intention is to repeat these surveys in a yearly rhythm, in order to regularly record global developments in the vaping community. Further information about the results with illustrative diagrams can be seen at www.vapingsurvey.com.

Summer
Vape
BY OPEN_AIRFLOW
A couple of weeks ago the weather finally changed. And it was about time for summer to emerge from this cold and grey monstrosity they call winter. The first sunbeams began to change the rhythm of my daily life. All of my preferred winter juices seemed to be way too heavy to vape. I loved to vape all of those delicious cookie and tart flavours during winter season. Hot cross buns, baked apples and every single “let´s stay at home at my fireplace vapes” seemed to be more or less unvapeable facing the upcoming summer season. My preference changed and I began to browse for suitable summer vapes. Let´s check out what I´ve found to be a great summer vape.

A big name in the Industry and great expectations – Cuttwood´s Mega Melons We all know the name and probably have vaped some bottles of Cuttwood´s exceptional line. I have chosen “Mega Melons” as my personal summer vape. Mega Melons is a trinity of mango, papaya and cantaloupe melon. On the inhale, a sweet and well balanced fruity mix wraps around your taste-buds. The exhale is dominated by this amazing flavour of ripe juicy cantaloupe melons. Pictures of warm summer days with my friends popped into my head. Well balanced in this case means that this e-liquid is suitable as an everyday vape. The flavours are not overpowering and as natural as they can be. Conclusion: Amazingly fruity summer vape.
Coconuts and beach life - Vape Coco´s Original Vape Coco´s Original is manufactured by a giant in the industry namely Ruthless Vapor Corporation. Already the scent of this great e-liquid reveals what´s to come when you take the first hit: Coconut all the way. I was instantly sent back to my last holiday with that beautiful Caribbean beach having that most delicious cocktail called “Coconut Dream”. The 70% VG produces dense and puffy clouds. For all of you coconut lovers – this is the e-liquid to purchase for a great Caribbean beach life vibe. Conclusion: Coconut sensation!
Get ready for a fresh lemon riot Riot Squad´s “Sub-Lime” is a fresh summer vape from the UK without menthol. On the inhale, it gives you an extremely satisfying hit of lemon and lime. A great refreshing sensation travels along your tongue and throat. On the exhale, a citric creamy sensation completes this great and refreshing everyday summer vape. This e-liquid is not just for lemon and lime lovers but for all of you who appreciate a refreshing vape without menthol or peppermint. Conclusion: Freshen up your summer vape with Sub-Lime now.

Loaded Cran-Apple Juice Loaded e-liquids Cran-Apple Juice is a great mix of red apples and cranberries. None of the flavours overpower each other. They blend to a harmonic mixture of these two delicious fruits. Both flavours are authentic and natural but the apple flavour reminds me of juicy ripe red apples. Loaded portrayed the red apple in perfection. You´ll get the same flavour sensation on both inhale and exhale. However on the exhale, you´ll get a marginal cooling effect. I like the way Loaded combined these two flavours and I was surprised by the cooling effect which makes this e-liquid a great summer vape. Conclusion: A real keeper for the summer season.
Give me a cool watermelon – Subzero´s Icey Watermelon Summer without a mouth-watering watermelon? No way! I chose Subzero´s “Icey Watermelon” and I´ll tell you why. There are several watermelon e-liquids out there, but Subzero hit it out of the park with its Icey Watermelon. On the inhale, you instantly get a smooth cooling sensation. Not an “ice punch” to the throat that knocks you out as you know it from most menthol e-juices. Subzero´s “Icey Watermelon” manages to transport freshness very smoothly. The watermelon hides a little in the background on the inhale to give way to the great charming cooling effect. On the exhale, that amazing watermelon flavour expands rapidly on your taste-buds. Conclusion: A must have for the upcoming summer season!
0 Degrees gives you “Polar Ice” For all of you who like a little more “coolness” I recommend “Polar Ice” from 0 Degrees. This e-liquid develops a great peppermint flavour. I have problems with overpowering menthol e-liquids but this one transports great freshness and precise flavour. On the exhale, the “ice kicker” is dominant but not overpowering. The peppermint hides a little behind the fresh rush speeding over your tongue. The exhale puts you into “peppermint wonderland” instantly. I was reminded of a delicious fresh chewing gum I used to have for a long time. Conclusion: This will cool you down on extremely hot summer days.

I know that there are way more great summer vapes out there but I guess this selection covers a nice range of different tastes. Even though all of the mentioned vapes are exceptionally great summer vapes I have two favourites. Cuttwood´s Mega Melons is just amazingly authentic and a perfect everyday vape for the upcoming summer season. The second one that will accompany me through summer 2017 will be Subzero’s “Icey Watermelon”. The smooth freshness and the great watermelon flavour hit are perfection. If you have any suggestions for great summer vapes don’t hesitate to contact me. I´m always looking for great e-liquids. I wish y´all a great summer and countless amazing vapes. Vape safe, vape on. In order to fully understand my vaping journey, I think I need to start from the beginning. Sadly, I lost my eldest son (Josh) when he was fourteen. He had Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. He couldn’t talk but could sign. When Josh passed away, I was smoking around 80-100 roll-ups a day, as a form of escaping. After eight months, I decided to stop smoking. I went cold turkey and stopped for almost six months in March 2014. Then my gran passed away and brought all the grieving back to the front of my mind. I went back on the fags. Jump forward to October 2015, and I bought

I would never have known then, that 17 months on, my life would have changed for the better. Not only am I healthier, but vaping has given me the confidence to become more sociable, to the point where I now have my own YouTube channel. I only decided three weeks ago to organise a charity Telford vape show on 19th August in Donnington, Telford between 12-4pm. When Josh passed, there was no real help for fathers, only mothers. I was pointed towards a website called Daddy’s with Angels, and they supported me through the hard times and the dark times. A very good friend’s daughter (Libby Mae) sadly passed away as well, and now they give lots of help to save babies’ lives across the West Midlands. The other charity close to my heart is Great Ormond street where my son Josh spent many a night before his passing. A friend called Chris Bassenger (@ScunnyVapeExpo on Twitter) is suffering from a brain tumour and he’s raising funds for the Brain Trust. As I turn forty in August, I decided to do between 4 – 40 challenges. The biggest today was the idea I had about the Telford

But not only do people seem to go crazy for it, but people get hurt. At Vaper Expo UK last year someone did get hurt quite badly. But on the flipside of that, the true vape community came together and sent the person a whole range of care packages to help with her recovery. I should add that Vaper Expo UK themselves were also very generous. A lot of the vendors are very inventive with their stands, there is a lot of loud music, lots of new things to see and do, but most of all they are a lot of fun. I have my sights on a few other events this year, but with expos now popping up all over the world I’m starting to get the itch to go and see what they are like abroad. I have been invited by the organisers to go to Vaper Expo India. Now that would be exciting…. If you vape, if you like to be sociable and you

Scunthorpe Expo organiser loves When a vape event popped up on our radar, we thought it was just another regular gig to add to our calendar. We couldn’t have been more wrong. The Scunthorpe Expo was a vape expo with a difference. The organiser of the Scunthorpe Expo is Chris Daniel Bassenger, 30, living in Scunthorpe. After being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2013, Chris took it upon himself to give back to the community. For the past four years, he has been organising events to support brain tumour charities, and his most recent Scunthorpe Expo raised nearly £1700. Find out what Chris had to say about the vaping scene in the UK, and how he goes about organising a vape expo.

giving back to vaping community
Scunthorpe Expo - 37
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENDABLE WORK FOR THE COMMUNITY CHRIS. COULD YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF? I was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour on the optic nerve in September 2013. I couldn’t have chemo, radiotherapy, or surgery due to location. I’m currently on a watch-and-wait, with regular scans. I also attend a support group in Hull held monthly run by the BrainsTrust. They paid for the private consultation in London for a second opinion which cost £300 for one hour. The Scunthorpe Vape Expo was my first vaping related charity event. Previously I organised a charity event back in 2015 but this was a casino themed sit-down meal charity event. As far as first vape expos go, it was great!
YOU RAISED NEARLY £1700 FOR YOUR MOST RECENT EXPO, CONGRATULATIONS! HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL WHEN YOU DONATE MONEY TO CHARITY? The final count was £1646.52 and my previous event as mentioned above was £1345 so it was an improvement from last time. My brain tumour is inoperable but the BrainsTrust funded me to visit a private clinic in London for a second opinion. Even though they agreed there was nothing they can do for me, they could investigate and try to help with my seizures caused by the tumour to make quality of life better. I am going to a clinic called Sir William Gowers at the end of the month to have tests into why these seizures are happening and what they can to reduce them. Knowing I can raise money for others potentially to get help and maybe save lives gives me great satisfaction.
DO YOU HAVE MORE EXPOS PLANNED? WE’D LOVE TO KNOW MORE AND HOPEFULLY COME ALONG TO ONE! Ideas and plans are in the pipeline for Scunthorpe Vape Expo II, to be bigger and better. I’m under strict instructions from my wife Laura to concentrate on going into hospital first and then I can start planning it when I come out.
PUTTING TOGETHER AN EXPO MEANS YOU HAVE TO BE SUPER ORGANISED AND ON THE BALL. HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN ORGANISED? My wife is a teacher so I have to be, lol. Having people around me to help when things get too much is important; they were a great support network for me.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE VAPING SCENE IN THE UK? I cannot believe how strong the vaping community is and how much support I received for the Scunthorpe Vape Expo. The vape community is like one big family and I feel
38 - Scunthorpe Expo
privileged to be a part of it. I want to give huge thanks to the following people as without them I couldn’t have made the vape expo as successful as it was. My wife Laura Bassenger, Shawn Cooper, Lewis Lee, Mark Crew (Soul Ohm Reviews), Adam Gbv (Great British Vapes), Aden Crew (Little Bro Vapes Reviews), Eric Prigg, Eddy Holmes and Café Indie.
WHY DO YOU THINK VAPE EXPOS ARE SO POPULAR? They bring everyone together in one place. It allows others to pass on their knowledge, experience, and suggestions. It’s a great space to try new mods and juice. I am not aware of any other vape expos that have been in aid of charity though so maybe this is something that can be pursued further.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT ORGANISING A VAPE EXPO? Being able to help others by raising money through the use of my hobby. I always say, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” The people who helped me organise the event – if I hadn’t had them on board I don’t believe it would have been as successful.
AND THE WORST THING ABOUT ORGANISING A VAPE EXPO? Vendors not contacting me to let me know they weren’t able to attend.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WANTING TO ORGANISE AN EXPO? • Get a good support network around you • Be forthcoming in visiting/contacting vendors personally rather than via email • Organisation • Be creative - think outside the box
CAN YOU PLEASE TALK ME THROUGH YOUR MOVEMENTS ON THE DAY OF YOUR EXPO? SAY, A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EXPO ORGANISER, STARTING FROM WHEN YOUR ALARM WENT OFF IN THE MORNING, TO WHEN YOU EVENTUALLY RETURNED HOME, KNACKERED AFTER PUTTING ON ACE EXPO. • Alarm went off at 7.30am • Got ready • Loaded the car up • McDonalds drive through for breakfast • Picked up two others who were helping on the day • Arrived at venue • Venue was already set up – made few alternations to layout • Delegated tasks to set up
Scunthorpe Expo - 39
• Vendors started to arrive – directed them to their allocated table • Had a vape • Meet and greet customers arriving early before doors open • On hand for any issues/questions • Picked up the tricks team members from train station • Ran around like a mad man • Helped with the raffle • Collected donations from vendors for their table before they packed up and left • Helped tidy and pack up • Thank you to venue and staff before leaving • Discussion with sponsor (e-cigarette outlet) about success of the day • Packed car up and left • Dropped off others who helped during the event • Went to see my mother in law to tell her all about the day • Home – had tea • Fell asleep
AS AN EX-SMOKER HOW MANY CIGARETTES DID YOU SMOKE A DAY, AND FOR HOW MANY YEARS? I smoked 20 a day for 16 years. I tried to quit many times and never managed to. One day I just woke up and decided I didn’t want to smoke anymore and I have never looked back.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VAPING FOR NOW? 1 year 4 months
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WANTING TO QUIT SMOKING? • Give up when you are ready not because someone else wants you to • When the day comes, buy a middle of the range e-cigarette. • Believe in yourself • Set yourself goals • Change your habits and find alternatives

aper ExpoUK Birmingham 2017
BY OPEN_AIRFLOW
May 26th 2017 – a day I had been looking forward to for some time. It was the day the Vaper Expo in Birmingham opened its doors again. Since Andy recruited me via Instagram to take pictures for the Vaper Expo, I was eager to see what the biggest vape event in Europe had to offer. I went to a couple of vape fairs in Germany and had something to compare the Vaper Expo to. What I experienced that weekend was something that I´ll never forget.
GETTING THERE My hotel was just a couple of miles from the NEC building. I was picked up from my hotel by a member of the expo organiser´s team. He told me that the expo would take place in four connected halls of the NEC premises. We arrived at the exhibitors´ parking lot 30 minutes before the expo opened its doors. I was nervous, my heart jumped quicker as I approached one of the many back doors of the building.

ENTERING THE HALLS After a quick security check, I took my first steps into the great halls of the Vaper Expo UK. I took a glimpse into the holy ground of the expo. My eye spotted several companies I was eager to check out: Cheap Thrills, Riot Squad E-liquid, Smok, Frontline Liquids, Rd. Vapes and so many more. Little did I know, that the part of the hall I saw, was about a quarter of the premises. That meant a lot of work for me and a tremendous amount of pictures to take. The main way – let´s call it the aorta – ran through the middle of the expo and headed from one end to the other.
THEMED STALLS ARE TRENDING Most of the e-liquid manufacturers had a fantastic stall with an individual theme, such as Riot Squad who went through the halls in kilts and armed with Scottish bagpipes. Their interactive castle themed stall was built up like a small castle. The Riot team members led you through it making you a member of the fight for freedom and their new e-liquid “Iron Bruise”. I left the Riot Squad premises really happy William Wallace style with blue and white coloured stage make-up all over my face. Another great sight was Front Line Liquid´s bunker camouflage stall. Bright search lights ensured security and showed off their great logo on top. On the inside, a short video introduced the new privates to the history of Front Line Liquids. A sudden security breach forced the privates to flee the bunker. Sirens, flashing lights and the sound of shotguns made the visit a real thrill. They do have an amazing e-liquid line by the way!
A REAL FLOOD OF EXHIBITORS It seemed to me that the whole world wanted to be at the Vaper Expo 2017. So many distributers, e-liquid and hardware manufacturers from all over the globe came to connect to the vape community and potential business partners. The sheer number of stalls and exhibitors made it hard to check on every stall. Luckily, I had more than one day to check everything out. The main stage was the centre of attention where e-liquid manufacturers showed off their swag and introduced some new products in their individual style. And yes there was a lot of free stuff to get at the expo. When I say a lot, I mean a lot. I returned to the hotel with a full bag of e-liquids, hats and t-shirts from different companies just on day one.
FUNFAIR RIDES? WHAT? As I walked through the halls of the Vaper Expo, I spotted two gigantic funfair rides in the middle of the hall not far from the bar. We all know these kind of rides, but the fact that the organisers put them into the Vaper Expo halls was amazing.
44- Vaper Expo UK
#TRICKLYFE I spent some time at the VGOD stall which had its own little trick hall with a stage, interchanging LED light effects and a kick ass DJ. The original VGOD team tricked the heck out of that stall and I just loved to see those professionals showing off their skills. On Saturday and Sunday VGOD had a trick competition open to everyone who felt ready for the task. Great and famous trickers such as King Titus came to participate. But not just famous vape trick masters visited the Vaper Expo 2017; YouTubers, journalists, great photographers and Instagram celebrities paid the expo a visit too. I met plenty of great people from many different countries and had a great time. The Vaper Expo UK was not just an event where exhibitors showed their new products, gave away a lot of samples or found new business partners. The Vaper Expo was a time of connection, a place of participation and for being part of a great community that unites so many people from all over the globe. In my opinion events like this provide time and space for the community to connect and to grow.

OGIC LQD TANK KIT REVIEW
BY BLAKE LOWIS
The best way to describe this device’s home in the market of mods is between a pen and an AIO (all in one). It is aesthetically the same as any other pen that can be bought for £10. With the RRP of this device being £20, Logic have put enough features in this to make it an “upgrade” from a standard pen.
Pros It has two power modes, which when used with “thinner” juices does make a noticeable difference. The instructions provided are easy to follow and do explain how to use the device properly. It was very easy to install everything and get it working. I’d say you could be vaping within a couple of minutes from opening the box. The flush system and top-fill seal is a great idea for this device as it does mean if you get a bad e-liquid you can wash it out. Since most pen style devices have fixed basic flavours you could easily make a cocktail of flavours in the tank. The main pro is the fact that with most cartomiser/clearomiser devices, you are fixed to a specific set of flavours – you can only buy cartridges from that particular manufacturer. The bonus with Logic is that it allows people to go to vape shops to buy better quality 50/50 or 60/40 juices. It can just about handle 70/30 which is impressive wicking. I wouldn’t recommend using 70/30 but knowing it can, means it will easily function with thinner juices. Logic have created a standard tank style system where you have replaceable coils, top-fill for whatever juice you want, and the ability to easily flush it out. This means a more comfortable vaping experience and more options for the end-user, than most other pen style devices.
Cons Like most other pens, the materials used still make this feel more like a disposable or short life product. The flush button will last about 3-6months at a guess from the materials used, and doesn’t flush out brilliantly with 70/30 liquids. Because it’s got similar features to an AIO that can be bought for £10 more, it’s going to be for die-hard pen fans or a good starter for someone who is particular about flavours they like or wants to be able to try lots of different brands.
46- Review
Summary Vaping technology is constantly evolving. Even the pen market is understanding that customers want more from their device. Logic have managed to create a pen that opens up e-liquids to a different market; those who have stuck to buying a bottle of branded juice from a particular supermarket or high street retailer. The low and high power is great for people on high nicotine that want that “wake up call in the morning and then just use the lower function during the day. I would point out that it is a lot more appropriate for the pen loving vaper, as an AIO is a lot more feature-rich and the quality of manufacturing is in a completely different realm. I will reiterate a previous point; with the top-fill system it does mean people that like pens that have friends that are more hobbyist vapers can now join them going to vape shops and trying a whole new world of liquid. I’m guessing Logic would much prefer you buying theirs but the fact that feature is there, does give it merit to be discussed.

48- Sir Vaping a Lot
Once you have been vaping for a while, everything becomes second nature; you know when your batteries need recharging (even without a screen on your mod to indicate) or replacing by the way your vaping experience feels as the batteries begin to drain. It is important to clean your vaping gear in the correct manner; this includes tanks/atomisers, RDAs, RDTAs and everything else in between.
So, let’s start with where most veteran vapers began – the ego style atomisers. These were some of the earlier vape devices that didn’t offer the luxury (yes, LUXURY!) of variable wattage, variable voltage, temperature control or curve vaping. We’re talking about a simple press and go here. These atomisers or clearomisers were almost always made out of some sort of plastic, which we all know, when it comes to the more sugary liquids, have a tendency to deteriorate the plastic itself. However, cleaning these devices was simple – just clean the mouthpiece (drip-tip) and swab the 510-connection pin with an ear bud and away you go!
Progressing along the vaping timeline, we start moving into the variable wattage, variable voltage, and adjustable airflow systems. This is where we start seeing lower ohms, which touches upon the sub ohm area of vaping. We learned that the juice we were using, if too thin (high PG) would leak out of the adjustable airflow on our tanks, resulting in some DIY stoppers. A way I used to combat this leaking issue was to wrap some tissue paper around the airflow holes and gently blow through the vent to clear out the excess juice. Over time I found the easiest way of cleaning out the built-up juice in the middle of the coil was to simply grab some of that handy toilet paper we mentioned before and twist it into a fine strand, pop it down the mouthpiece and give it a wiggle, then gently pull it up. That seemed to always sort out that horrible “gargling” noise.
RDAs are my hardware love affair; I always have one to hand, always on some freshly charged 18650s ready to go with the latest and best e-liquid. Like other devices, there are many ways to clean your RDA, and even more ways of extending the coil build’s shelf-life. But I’ll let you in on a secret, because it really works… Just soak in warm water and dry with a towel.
As for coils, if I’m too lazy to do a new build then I’ll simply remove the cotton (usually cotton bacon) with some tweezers, pulse the dirty coils gradually and use the old cotton. As long as it still has juice on it, I just use that to rub over the coils until they become clean. You can, after that process, place the coils under warm water just to get rid of the old flavour. If you take the same route as I do, make sure your coils are completely dry before attempting to re-wick, as the water will dilute the vapour production and of course the flavour.
As for your brass material vaping products, a simple brass cleaner will work wonders bringing it back to life.
There are so many products out there, and different brands suit different needs and requirements of the individual vaper. My suggestion is to try out as many as you can to find something that works for you, and remember to keep them clean for the best vaping experience.

PAX
he Journey so Far T By Joel Levy
Editor-in-Chief, Toronto Guardian

PAX Labs has had quite the journey since their inception as Ploom in 2007. The electronic cigarette company has put out their very popular PAX vaporisers and their Juul electronic cigarette in that time. The PAX vaporiser is known as the gold standard in vaping. The product is now in its 3rd version of the tool, which constantly makes great improvements from generation to generation. The Pax by Ploom was the company’s first shot at the perfect smoking device. It was compact, worked well and was beautifully designed and packaged like the newest apple iPod. It was also arriving during the growth of popularity around vaporising and other products like the Volcano. Although perfect in the eyes of many users who jumped on the device upon its availability, there was a lot of room for improvement, and PAX Labs improved on their inaugural product with clairvoyant accuracy.
PAX - 51
52- PAX
When PAX 2 came out, a few improvements were made. The size of the device was shrunk to about 2/3rds of the original device’s size. Along with that, the on/off mechanism was changed from the popup mouthpiece to a button, getting rid of a clunky moving part that caused issues with ease of cleaning and meant less parts to keep track of that can be lost. The top of the device was replaced with a rubber, pull-off cover that protects the on/off button and comes with both a flush top with a small slit to inhale through and a mouthpiece shaped top that resembles the original first-gen mouthpiece. The dock was also improved. The standup dock was replaced with a lay-down dock that attaches with a magnet fitted placement that the device rests in. With the 3rd model of PAX, even more fixes were made. Since the first generation, I have wanted either a sound or vibration to notify you when the light goes green and the device is ready to use. Too many times I missed the green light only to waste a bowl.
Now, the new PAX3 has both a vibration for when you turn it on and one when the light turns green and it is ready for use. This is a great addition. The dock of this version is the same; you can actually use the dock from PAX2 with the PAX3. Other additions include a 2nd oven lid with a deeper insert to allow for tight half bowls, an oven piece that allows for concentrates, extra oven screens and a keychain packing tool. There is also a mobile app now that allows you to control the device. Temperature can be adjusted by 2 degree increments, light colour can be changed and overall performance controls have been added to fortify taste, longevity and other preferences. There is no doubt that PAX is listening to their customers and it is constantly improving on their products. Now, I only wonder what they will have in store for us in the PAX4. To find out more about Joel, be sure to follow him on Twitter @StedyPhoto.

about my personal health. I am not as dependant on my pen as much as I was on my cigarettes, which makes me feel a lot more in control of my nicotine intake. Also, to add to the positivity of it all, a study supported by the NHS indicated that vaping has been endorsed by health experts as a far safer alternative to smoking. However, as vaping becomes more regarded in the health industry, general rules around vaping are constantly changing to meet these new studies and findings. This means it’s hard to know where you stand, making the idea of travelling with your vape seem disconcerting. I’ve flown on many occasions with my vape, but times are forever changing as airlines tighten their restrictions around vapes on planes. This is the reason I wanted to put together a guide, so that fellow vapers are able to travel abroad with their vaping equipment, with the understanding of what they can and cannot do. If you have scheduled a flight and you are

The Movement by Killakloudz Review BY OPEN_AIRFLOW Killakloudz is manufactured in beautiful Los Angeles in the state of California USA. The company started in 2015 and at that time the owner did everything by himself. The company´s philosophy is dedicated to quality. Only high value ingredients are used to produce a high end product. A strong connection and interaction with the vape community is the core of Killakloudz´s credo which actually led to the idea for the e-liquid “The Movement”: It was “born” during a live-feed on a social media platform while interacting with the members of the “Killakloudz Movement”. Let´s check out what this e-liquid is about.
The scent I opened the 60 ml gorilla bottle and a dominant but not overpowering coconut aroma caught my attention instantly. I took another sniff and couldn’t help but picture a fresh coconut split in half spilling out deliciously fragrant coconut milk. I was able to detect a strawberry note in the scent but the coconut is absolutely dominant at this stage. Now I was curious about the taste… so let´s fill the dripper and hit it.

Let´s vape The marvellous Caribbean scent already revealed the ingredients of “The Movement”. Let´s
check out if the actual taste can compete with that high
level of the scent. The inhale is surprisingly a “strawberry explosion”: It puts you right on a strawberry field eating those fresh organic, succulent sweet strawberries right from the field. I expected a coconut invasion on my taste-buds but I was surprised by that sweet strawberry dominance. The coconut flavour hides a little behind the strawberry base note, but already at this stage of my vape experience, I could detect that stunning coconut flavour which can compete with the real deal. The delicious coconut tang in the background makes you eager to exhale and to discover what happens next. The exhale gives you a great mix of strawberry, coconut and a slender pineapple splash. The pineapple surprised me with that extra freshness on the exhale. The combination of strawberry, coconut and pineapple put me into holidaymode. Unfortunately there are several months until I can even think of flying towards sunny countries.
Conclusion What can I say about this amazing vape… except “wow”. I was surprised from scent to exhale all the way. The great combination of these three fruits and the shifted balance of the ingredients in both inhale and exhale make this e-liquid one of a kind. Even “non-vapers” during my vape break couldn’t get enough of that “Movement” scent. Killakloudz you produced a hard 10.

Keep the pressure on with TPD letter “If you wanted to sabotage a product, and add to the cost of producing that product, and limit the scope of competition of that product, and drive out business and small producers, it is hard to see how more an effective job can be done, in respect to the regulations that apply to electronic cigarettes.” Lord Forsyth After the referendum on Thursday 23 June 2016, the UK voted to leave the European Union. ministers to account.
Much like a divorce which can be messy, a mammoth task lies ahead, as our government will sift through laws that the UK will choose to continue to implement.
Yes, it may be years before we leave the EU, but this only gives us time to educate and inform those in power.
Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty has been triggered, which is the official precursor for the UK to leave the EU. Prime Minister May has kick-started the leave process, giving the UK two years to agree terms of the break-up. The UK is expected to leave the EU by 2019. Even then, this process may be delayed by an additional four years, as the UK hammers out a deal with the remaining 27 national parliaments in the EU. As it stands, we are still part of the European Union until the UK stops being a member. Until then, the UK will continue to live by EU laws, the only difference being that it will not be included in any EU decision-making. Harsh TPD regulations continue to apply. We couldn’t agree more with former Tory cabinet minister Lord Forsyth, whose scathing speech to peers during a TPD debate last year drove home the fact that there was no logic in the TPD regulations. Once we have exited the EU, we will have a more transparent government where we’ll be able to hold
66- TPD Letter
We live in hope that our government will come to re-evaluate the TPD and its effect on businesses and knock on effects on livelihoods across the country.
We urge you to sign and share the following letter. Address it to your MP, and continue to keep the pressure on. It takes time to forge a movement, and we feel very strongly about this. The fight isn’t over yet. We’re in it for the long haul. Are you?
Dear ____________________________ I am an ex-smoker. I use electronic cigarettes, and to date, they have been the most effective method for smoking cessation I have found. I purchase my supplies from _________ a small shop in _______________ and I understand that a new form of legislation (TPD) will be affecting this small business drastically. I would like you to reply to the following questions please. Have you read the Tobacco Products Directive in full? Do you know how it will affect electronic cigarettes? Why are electronic cigarettes included in the TPD when there is NO tobacco in them whatsoever? Why are e-liquid strengths being limited to no more than 2mg of nicotine per 100ml e-liquid? Why are electronic cigarettes being restricted when the 2015 Public Health England study concluded that e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than smoking? Vaping comes at no cost to the NHS, unlike current nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). Are you aware that there are at least 4 electronic cigarette shops in your constituency? Why have you not visited any of these shops to find out how the TPD will affect their livelihood? Why should the UK adhere to the draconian TPD legislation from Europe, when we are in the process of leaving the EU? I am not in favor of this directive and as such, feel I must make you aware. I am not alone and expect you as my representative in government to address this issue and reply forthwith. I feel that this is ruining an industry that promotes a safer alternative to smoking and that the research that has been done regarding electronic cigarettes and their relation to this directive is unscientific, unfounded and inaccurate. I believe the government has the tobacco industry’s interests at heart rather than the people it represents. This is wrong, and as my representative, I would like answers from yourself regarding the queries above. I await your reply. Sincerely _______________________________ _______________________________
Reviews We have a review price list; if you’d like your products reviewed, please email info@vapelyfemag.co.uk using hashtag #ReviewRequest in the subject heading. Each product is allocated to a member of our review team, who will dedicate time getting to know your product (2 days for an e-liquid, 7 days for an atty or mod). For this reason, we cannot do last minute reviews, as we don’t think you can get a clear picture after just a few puffs. Please note – we only give honest reviews. If you’ve paid for a review and we think the product is good or bad (we prefer good, because it’s not fun vaping crap), we will say it how it is. Please don’t take offence by this, we just really value truth and integrity. You will be notified of a publication date, which is usually within 1 month from the review date.
