Vapormatic Quality Oil Filters To demonstrate the quality of Vapormatic filters, Vapormatic has conducted a test between a Vapormatic filter against that of another leading agricultural brand. The picture shows a Vapormatic filter (Right) next to the competitor filter (Left) after the top of the filter has been cut off and the element extracted. We have done this as the difference between filters is hard to see from the outside. A bad filter can be nicely packaged. It must be remembered that internal differences are not necessarily visible from the outside but are particularly important for an oil filter to function correctly. The table below shows the two filter elements side by side, complete with facts on each filter element.

Competitor Filter Element Pleats
Filter Element Pleats
Competitor Number of pleats – 35 Depth of pleats – 32mm Length of pleats – 102mm 32 x 35 x 102 = 114,240 (square mm)
Vapormatic Number of pleats – 75 Depth of pleats – 36mm Length of pleats – 102mm 36 x 75 x 102 = 275,400 (square mm)
177 square inches surface area
426 square inches surface area
What are the benefits of a Vapormatic Oil Filter? As you can see the Vapormatic filter pleats are much closer together, increasing the number of pleats, 75 to be precise against the competitors 35. The VAP filter actually has 2.4 times the surface area of the competitors filter and is therefore much less restrictive to the lubrication system, this means reduced engine wear, reduced fuel usage and increased overall engine performance. The Vapormatic filter also uses pressed metal ends on the element to reduce collapse and maintain rigidity, as opposed to cardboard ends used on the competitor filter. What’s the real cost? By installing a poor quality filter you are effectively shortening your service intervals, leading to increased costs. The reduced surface filtration area not only means that the filter will need replacing in a shorter time, but the added restriction to oil flow causes the engine to wear at a faster rate and therefore shortens its life.
What is inside a Vapormatic Oil Filter? The diagram to the right shows the Vapormatic Oil Filter in disassembled format. All filters are made to the same specification as OE filters. This VAP filter uses an integral bypass valve, the same as OE specification. Some competitor filters use a separate bypass valve placed in the end of the canister before the element is fitted. In our experience a separate bypass valve is more susceptible to manufacturing error.
