LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to another edition of Vapouround Magazine and to another year which looks set to be even busier than the last one.
Last year was so hectic that I hardly had time to catch a breath and this year has started at an even more frantic pace which means there is never a dull moment to be found.
The Vapouround Bus has been one of our really big successes and it now has an amazing new look, after being completely re-wrapped. Be sure to check it out as it tours the UK. One of the great things about the bus is that everywhere it goes we meet smokers who tell us they desperately want to quit but have not found a way that has worked for them.
Many tell us that they don’t really understand what vaping is all about and we are always delighted to answer all their questions and provide them with vaping starter packs to try. It is always great to play some part in helping smokers quit and we see the Vapouround Bus as playing a very important role in this area.
Our vape lounge in Derby city centre is going from strength to strength and a second lounge will be opening in London very shortly with more to come as the year unfolds.
Since the last magazine we have been to Spain, Ukraine, Russia and the USA and you can read about all of those journeys in this issue.
No matter where in the world we go, we are always impressed by the passion and vision of the people who work in the vaping industry to constantly drive it forward.
It was to pay tribute to the people who make up the international world of vaping that we launched our Vapouround Awards last year. This year’s Awards ceremony will take place after the business-to-business day of Vaper Expo UK - The Big Weekend on Friday May 26 at the NEC in Birmingham and it promises to be a lot of fun.
If you want to nominate juices or hardware for the Vapouround Awards then do so now. The closing date is March 31 and we don’t want you to miss out.
All the details on how to enter are on our Awards website: www.vapouroundawards.co.uk so be sure to check that out.

Next Generation Labs Develops Scientific Method to Prove Authenticity of Synthetic Nicotine in E-Liquids
Analysis Can Identify Source of Nicotine in E-Liquids, Disproving False Claims
A new test has been developed to prove the authenticity of synthetic nicotine in e-liquids.
Up until now e-liquid manufacturers could claim that their products used synthetic nicotine but it was difficult to verify such claims.
Now Next Generation Labs, the makers of proprietary TFN Nicotine – a nontobacco derived synthetic nicotine liquid – has produced a scientific method to test the authenticity of synthetic nicotine in a final e-liquid product sold commercially.
The company said it recognised a need for such a test as the popularity of synthetic nicotine increases.
The Next Generation Labs team developed a process that enables e-liquid manufacturers to test the origin of the nicotine, providing adult consumers with the confidence that they are not being sold a tobacco-nicotine as a mislabeled synthetic product.
The company said it was alerted by its trade customers to products in the market that were being sold as ‘made from synthetic nicotine’ and needed to validate these product claims.
The new test works by identifying the presence of tobacco-derived
impurities, which are not present in synthetic nicotine.
Because of this the test is only suitable for e-liquids that do not contain any added tobacco flavor extracts.
Test results have revealed traces of tobacco-derived impurities in competitor brands, suggesting their claims of using synthetic nicotine or non-tobacco, may be suspect.
Vincent Schuman, CEO of Next Generation Labs said: “For the sake of the legitimate nicotine trade, and to protect adult consumer interest,
it’s critical that we put a stop to false marketing claims about synthetic nicotine – we want to protect the industry as a whole.
“We have a responsibility to ensure adult consumers have the opportunity to try e-liquids made with true synthetic nicotine, rather than product mislabeled as such.
“Our initial response from adult vapers tells us that consumers actually prefer the taste of e-liquids made with TFN Nicotine over those made with tobaccoderived nicotine.
“Companies that are making false claims about using synthetic nicotine are unscrupulous and it’s important that consumers are kept informed about what’s occurring in the industry.”
Next Generation Labs sells patented TFN Nicotine directly to e-liquid manufacturers. TFN Nicotine is used in over 40 e-liquid brands in the US and is playing a central role in revolutionizing the e-cigarette and vaping industry. The company says that because tobacco free nicotine does not contain any off-tasting compounds and other trace chemical residuals that occur in tobaccoderived nicotine, it results in a better tasting e-juice flavour.

E-cigarette vapour does not cause DNA damage in human cells - study
It has been known for some time that cigarette smoke causes significant DNA damage to lung cells.
Now a new study has shown that the vapour inhaled from e-cigarettes does not damage DNA, even at high concentrations of 28 times greater than equivalent smoke exposure.
The study - which has been published in Toxicology Letters - is further evidence that the risks from vaping are considerably less than those faced by cigarette smokers.
Scientists at British American Tobacco used lab-based cellular tests to examine the impact of cigarette smoke and Vype e-cigarette vapour on human lung cells. “We have been able to show that there is significant DNA damage in human lung cells exposed to smoke, but that this is not case with e-cigarette vapour,” said Dr James Murphy, Head of Risk Substantiation at British American Tobacco.
“These findings add to evidence on the likely reduced risks of vaping, compared to smoking,” he said.
Cellular DNA can become damaged when exposed to toxicants, like those in cigarette smoke for example.
DNA double-strand break (DSB) in which both strands of the DNA molecule are broken, is the most serious type of DNA damage.
The cell attempts to repair the DNA damage by modifying the protein or histone around which the DNA is
wrapped. The changes observed in this histone can be used as an indicator of the level of DSB. These changes can be detected using a well-established test called a γH2AX assay.
This test was used to compare the impact of the 3R4F* reference cigarette and Vype ePen and Vype eStick (commercially available e-cigarettes) on human lung cells. This test was used in combination with an exposure system (Vitrocell VC) that allows lung cells to be exposed to aerosol in the lab in a way that mimics exposure in the body when consumers inhale.
This combination of tests allowed for the assessment of the whole aerosol, be it smoke or vapour. Previous studies focused on only the particulate fraction of smoke.
The results show that cigarette smoke induced significant DNA damage in human lung cells, in a dose dependent manner - that is, the higher the dose,
Public Health England, an executive body of the UK Department of Health, recently published a report saying that the current expert estimate is that using e-cigarettes is around 95% safer than smoking cigarettes, although more research is needed.
the more DNA damage was induced. E-cigarette vapour produced no affect, even when the dose used was 28 times higher than the equivalent smoke exposure.
The results confirm that cigarette smoke is genotoxic (causes genetic damage) and, at higher doses, cytotoxic (can cause cell death). In contrast, e-cigarette vapour is neither genotoxic nor cytotoxic, even at extremely high doses.
“We know that we can be confident in our results because we have shown that e-cigarette aerosol droplets are effectively delivered to cell surfaces in lab-based biological tests,” explains Murphy.
Many in the public health community believe e-cigarettes offer great potential for reducing the public health impact of smoking.
Public Health England, an executive body of the UK Department of Health, recently published a report saying that the current expert estimate is that using e-cigarettes is around 95% safer than smoking cigarettes, although more research is needed.
The Royal College of Physicians have said that the public can be reassured that e-cigarettes are much safer then smoking and that they should be widely promoted as an alternative to cigarettes.

Vaping use among US teens dropped for the first time ever in 2016
The numbers of US teenagers who vape has declined for the first time this year, say researchers.
It is unclear why the numbers are falling but it could be that the ‘honeymoon period’ with this relatively new technology may be over for many young people who may have tried it just to see what vaping was all about.
A new study has found that the percentage of US teens who vape declined in 2016—the first significant reversal of a rapid rise in adolescent vaping.
The rate grew from near-zero levels of use in 2011 to one of the most common forms of adolescent substance use by 2015, researchers said.
From 2015 to 2016, the percentage of adolescents who vaped in the last 30 days declined as follows:
12th grade students - down from 16 percent to 13 percent.
10th grade students - down from 14 percent to 11 percent.
8th grade students - down from 8 percent to 6 percent.
The University of Michigan’s ‘Monitoring the Future’ study group said each of the declines was was statistically significant.
Each year the national study, now in its 42nd year, surveys 40,000 to 50,000 students in about 400 public and private secondary schools throughout the United States and asks questions about the types of substances they use, including their use of vaping devices.
Richard Miech, a senior investigator in the Monitoring the Future project said: “Whether adolescent vaping has peaked or only paused is something we will be able to determine in the coming years.
“In the past, we have seen new drugs follow a pattern in which use increases at a fast pace during a honeymoon period
and then reverses course and declines as knowledge of the substance’s drawbacks became known.”
Adolescents associated slightly greater potential harm with vaping in 2016 than they did the previous year, although overall they don’t see them as particularly dangerous to use.
Cigarette smoking among teens in grades 12, 10 and 8 continued a decades long decline in 2016 and reached the lowest levels recorded since annual tracking began 42 years ago.
From 2015 to 2016, the percentage of youth who smoked in the past 30 days fell from 11.4 percent to 10.5 percent among 12th-grade students, from 6.3 percent to 4.9 percent among 10th-grade students, and from 3.6 percent to 2.6 percent among 8th-grade students. The one-year declines in 10th and 8th grade were statistically significant.
“Since the peak year in 1997, the proportion of students currently smoking has dropped by more than three quarters—an extremely important development for the health and longevity of this generation of Americans,” said Lloyd Johnston, the principal investigator of the study.

SMOKING AMONG CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN ENGLAND AT ALL TIME LOW
Smoking rates among young people in England are now the lowest on record, according to a new health survey published by the NHS.
Fewer than 5 per cent of children aged between eight to 15 have smoked which is a fall of three-quarters since 2003 according to the annual survey of health trends.
The large decrease in the numbers of young people smoking reflects far tighter restriction on tobacco sales, anti-smoking legislation and health awareness campaigns by the government and other bodies. This has had the net effect of introducing a cultural change away from smoking as being seen as a cool thing to do to it being socially unacceptable in many places where it was once widespread. For example, in the past ten years smoking has been banned in enclosed

“We have made great progress in reducing smoking, the leading cause of premature death and disability in this country. But we can’t rest on our laurels if we are to continue to drive down smoking rates.”

The Irish Vape Vendors Association has hit out at a press statement from ASH Ireland saying that smokers should not turn to vaping instead.
The Association says it is ‘deeply disappointed’ with Ireland’s leading antitobacco advocacy organisation over the advice it has given to smokers who want to quit.
Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) Ireland recently came out against vaping as a solution, saying that quitters should use patches or gum instead.
Its chairman, Dr Patrick Doorley, told the Sunday Independent: “Some people say [e-cigarettes] do help them but we don’t think that the evidence is strong enough for us to support them and there are concerns about their longterm safety.”
The IVVA said that e-cigarettes had already helped many thousands of Irish smokers successfully switch away from smoking lit tobacco.
It said that it was vital that the relative risks of vaping compared to smoking were communicated accurately and honestly to Irish smokers so that they could make informed decisions about their health.
IVVA Administrator Gillian Golden said: “It is deeply disappointing that any Irish anti-smoking group would not want smokers to switch to safer nicotine products.
“It sends out the incorrect message to smokers here, when English stop smoking services and public health organisations are encouraging [e-cigarette] use, all on the back of extensive evidence that vaping is far less harmful than smoking.”
The IVVA said it welcomes the relative risk message communicated by the Royal College of Physicians which said: “Although it is not possible to precisely quantify the long term health risks associated with e-cigarettes, the available data suggest that they are unlikely to exceed 5% of those associated with smoked tobacco products, and may well be substantially lower than this figure.”
An analysis of the results of the 2014 Eurobarometer survey, published in the journal ‘Addiction’, found that across the EU, 6.1 million people are no longer smoking, having fully switched to vaping, and the Healthy Ireland Survey published in 2016 found that of the 10% of smokers who stopped, 32% of them had used e-cigarettes.
Golden added: “Evidence and pragmatism should be paramount in formulating policies to reduce the harms from smoking. Smokers should be encouraged to give vaping a try, they shouldn’t be put off by ideological positions that are not in step with current evidence.”

E-cigarettes can be as effective as smoking conventional cigarettes at delivering nicotine
New research shows that e-cigarettes can be as effective at delivering nicotine as conventional cigarettes, especially when used by experienced vapers.
For the study, scientists examined changes in blood nicotine from volunteers who used both cigarettes and e-cigarettes. The results revealed that nicotine delivery from e-cigarettes differs, according to the type of e-cigarette, who uses them and how.
The research - E-cigarette Nicotine Delivery: Data and Learnings from Pharmacokinetic Studies - has been published in the American Journal of Health Behavior - and is good news for the vaping industry.
Lead author Dr Ian Fearon, Head of Clinical Research at British American Tobacco, said: “Our results tell us that newer generation e-cigarettes are more effective at delivering nicotine than firstgeneration e-cigarettes. But, smokers need to be able to adapt their behavior in order to use them to best effect, at least with currently available products. ‘E-cigarettes are effective at delivering nicotine during brief use periods and new-generation devices are even better at it.
“However, elevation of blood nicotine levels during e-cigarette use was greater in experienced vapers compared to e-cigarette naïve smokers and under more real-world conditions, ie when the volunteer controlled how they used them.”
Veteran researcher in smoking cessation Dr Mitch Nides, president of Los Angeles Clinical Trials, was a key member of the research team.
Dr. Nides has been the principal investigator of over 60 smoking cessation trials testing nicotine and nonnicotine products including patch, gum, lozenge, Inhaler, Zyban and Varenicline.
He said: “Being as effective as cigarettes at delivering nicotine in important because it could be a factor in determining whether smokers are likely to continue to use e-cigarettes in place of regular cigarettes.”
The research used volunteers who were split into two groups - smokers, who were not current users of e-cigarettes, and current vapers who also occasionally smoked.
Study 1 (smokers)
Participants in this stud first smoked a typical cigarette for five minutes by taking a single puff every 30 seconds.
After a 15-minute break, they smoked cigarettes freely for an hour. At specific time points during both smoking periods, blood samples were taken and participants were asked to rate how much they would like a cigarette. After two days, the procedure was repeated but with a Vype vPro ePen e-cigarette (a closed modular system).
For these inexperienced (in e-cigarettes) smokers, e-cigarettes delivered less nicotine than conventional cigarettes:
During the 5-minute defined puffing period, mean peak nicotine concentration from the e-cigarette was significantly lower [at 2.5ng/ml] than for a regular cigarette [13.4ng/ml], although the time to reach it was similar.
During the free period, mean nicotine concentration reached using the e-cigarettes was higher at 5.9ng/ml, but still not as high as with cigarettes (14.9ng/ml). Both the cigarette and the e-cigarette reduced the urge to smoke.
Study 2 (vapers)
Participants in the second study first smoked a single cigarette freely for five minutes; blood samples were taken at specific time points before, during and after.
The participants were then given Nicolite (an old-style cig-a-like, non-rechargeable first-generation e-cigarette) to familiarize themselves with and, after two days, the procedure was repeated but with a second-generation e-cigarette, a Vype vPro ePen. After two days, the procedure was again repeated.
For the vapers, mean peak blood nicotine concentration for the Vype e-cigarette was 7.8ng/ml compared to 7.2ng/ml for cigarettes. For Nicolites, mean peak blood nicotine concentration was 4.7ng/ml.
These results demonstrate that the e-cigarettes, especially the newer models, can effectively deliver nicotine to experienced users. The results also suggest that the experience of study volunteers needs to be considered when planning and executing these kinds of studies to ensure the reliability of results.

ENSURING VAPOUR REALLY ‘HITS THE SPOT’ IN LAB-BASED STUDIES
By Marina Murphy, BAT
THE GREATEST SELLING POINT OF THE E-CIGARETTE CATEGORY IS THAT THESE PRODUCTS MAY IMPROVE PUBLIC HEALTH, BY REDUCING THE DEATH AND DISEASE ASSOCIATED WITH SMOKING. PROVING THE POINT WILL, HOWEVER, REQUIRE SIGNIFICANT LAB TIME, CLINICAL STUDIES AND STUDIES OF CONSUMERS. It’s no surprise then that there are already a lot of studies being performed on e-cigarettes, and subsequently, lots of data being produced. As the producer of Vype, our focus is ensuring that we make the best possible products to give every smoker alternatives to cigarettes, whilst ensuring that we build data packages that substantiate the view that these products could be up to 95% safer than smoking.
Cigarettes and e-cigarettes are very different and produce very different aerosols, so we are always looking for the best possible ways of testing them. All sorts of lab-based biological tests can be used to compare smoke and vapour, from the classical tests looking at toxicity (DNA damage, cell damage etc) to much newer studies that mimic key events in disease processes. In many cases to date, there was no response or a substantially reduced response to Vype e-cigarette vapour in comparison to cigarette smoke in these lab-based
tests. In some cases, the impact of Vype e-cigarette vapour is indistinguishable from that of the laboratory air where the study was conducted. Significant findings, or too good to be true?
Vapour is compositionally very different to smoke, it’s much less complex, containing substantially fewer components, especially in respect of the toxicants found in smoke. But what if these great results we got were simply a result of the vapour being lost in the system, absorbed to or leaked out from the tubing, and therefore did not actually reach the cells that we were assessing (i.e. leading to us reading a blank result)?
‘There are a lot of data being produced around the world on vapour products, and we have produced a lot of data internally and in independent labs,’ according to my colleague James, the other Dr Murphy and Head of Risk Substantiation at British American Tobacco. ‘When there is a partial response or no response at all, this can be interpreted as the e-cigarette vapour having a reduced biological impact compared to cigarette smoke. But we had to be sure that it was a real result and that we did not just lose the aerosol in the test system and expose our cells to air, we had to be sure that the vapour was reaching the cells’ he said.

‘LUNG-IN-THE-LAB’
This exposure chamber can be used to assess the impact of different aerosols on the health of human lung cells. It is necessary to demonstrate that aerosol is effectively delivered to the lung cells in the first place in order to be confident in the results of cellular tests.
The wells containing the lung cells can be removed and replaced with tiny weighing scales. These scales are so sensitive they can weigh the aerosol being delivered to the wells. Research results show that e-cigarette aerosol droplets are effectively delivered to the wells and deposit onto the cell surfaces during lab-based biological tests.
aerosol in aerosol out
GETTING BACK TO BASICS
In order to be confident in the results of our own testing, we needed to get back to basics and prove that e-cigarette aerosol droplets are effectively delivered to cell surfaces in lab-based biological tests. We used smoking and vaping robots to produce aerosols (from a scientific reference cigarette and Vype ePen) in the lab and then used micro balances (tiny scales that can measure microgram levels of aerosol), to determine whether we could measure the aerosol in an exposure chamber. Basically, we were measuring amounts so small that they were the equivalent of a breath. The exposure chamber is a device we designed to expose lung cells to aerosols in a laboratory setting. A range of different types of cells can be grown in the lab, which are then placed into the exposure chamber to assess the impact of aerosols on the health of the cells. We place the cells in small dishes (the size of a thimble), which we place on the micro-balances, and can weigh the amount of aerosol that is delivered to the cells.
This is the deposited particle mass in the exposure chambers which is measured, in addition to the amount of deposited nicotine.
The results show that (on a puff by puff basis and at a common dilution) the
e-cigarette aerosol deposited greater mass than cigarette smoke in both systems. Nicotine delivery was much greater from the cigarette than from the e-cigarette.
‘It may seem counter intuitive that the aerosol that delivered the most mass had the least impact, but it’s about what that mass represents,’ explains Murphy. Smoke droplets carry the products of combustion: thousands of chemicals and hundreds of toxicants. Whereas e-cigarette aerosol droplets contain the aerosolised form of the main ingredients that make up e-liquids: humectants, water, nicotine and flavouring.
‘This means the mass deposited on the cells by the e-cigarette vapour is compositionally very different to that deposited by cigarette smoke,’ says Murphy. We published the results in Chemistry Central Journal (DOI: 10.1186/s13065-016-0221-9).
We have done a series of tests that compare the impact of smoke with that of vapour. These tests mimic key events in the development of tobacco-related diseases like cardiovascular disease or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
We have, for example, shown that that in contrast to smoke, e-cigarette vapour has substantially reduced responses in lab based tests representative of oxidative damage, cellular stress, and DNA damage.
Human lung cells are supported by a permeable membrane in a test well. The cells are exposed to air/aerosol on one side and fed by nutrient media on the other, much like they are in the human body.
a distributor plate ensures uniform distribution of aerosols contained in the chamber air-tight seal
‘We are very excited about these latest results,’ says Murphy, ‘because it means that we can be confident that we are effectively delivering e-cig aerosol to cells in biological tests and that we can be confident, therefore, in the results of our biological tests. These are important findings as we have shown in our lab based chemical and biological tests that e-cigarettes have the potential to reduce risk in comparison to cigarettes. The next steps are to evaluate these products in clinical and population based studies to ensure that lab based reductions translate to disease relevant reductions in man, both at an individual and a population basis.’
Our Vype ePen test results to date are in line with current available evidence that e-cigarettes are of the order of 95% less risk than conventional cigarettes.

A new concept in e liquid trading www Vaping Warehouse co uk was formed to allow our ‘in house brands’ and our partner’s (who the ‘E Quits Group’ manufacture for) to trade directly to the retail outlets at wholesale prices.
With major funding and weight behind the concept from the E Quits Group, we are building one of the most comprehensive network of retailers in the EU and are putting both ours and our partner’s brands directly onto the display shelfs on every high street. This is of huge benefit to the retailers (as well as our brand partners) as they are able to cut out the ‘middle man ’ and purchase some of the best selling brands in the EU straight from source and at wholesale prices Expect many more well known brands to be added over the next few months. By acting together, we can collectively overcome the restrictions of the TPD. The Industry is evolving, do not be left behind.

The Manufacturing arm of the ‘E Quits Group’, Lonjas UK has rapidly established itself as one of the top five manufacturers in the UK and currently produce for over 30 well known brands. Lonjas UK have also been credited by the MHRAs for it’s involvement in the consultation process on the TPD.

Vape Ranger - An online e-liquid wholesaler targeting the vaping market across the UK
VapeRanger.Com is your one stop online e-liquid wholesale platform. Established just under a year ago, the online wholesaler has proven to be a huge success across the globe. From expanding their international clientele to wholesaling a range of e-liquids worldwide, Vape Ranger is proud to have now launched their business in the UK. Joshua Goldfeder, CEO of Vape Ranger, strives to meet the demands of the vaping market in the UK. He aims to make purchasing vaping products more convenient for vape stores across the UK. Vapouround spoke to Joshua Goldfeder and business partner Zachary Bader, about Vape Ranger and their entrepreneurship journey.
VM: Tell us about Vape Ranger in the US Joshua: Vape Ranger was born out of our experience as shop owners. When the vaping industry began to rise, we were still searching for products via Instagram and through friends. We looked everywhere to find new e-liquids, ordering it soon because it is a monumental and time-consuming task. In 2016 we decided to develop Vape Ranger - an online platform to make ordering e-liquids easier for all vaping businesses. The website allows stores to order all their e-juices in one place,
making their lives a whole lot easier. It’s cheaper, innovative and a more efficient way to order e-liquids.
Zachary: Vape Ranger instantly allows stores to reduce their shipping costs. It is a one-stop shop where hundreds of brands of e-liquids are available for wholesale. Clients (retail stores), can log onto the website and purchase e-liquids, best of all you pay one shipping fee. It’s the best platform to purchase all e-liquids in one place at one given time.
VM: Why did you decide to launch Vape Ranger in the UK?
Joshua: Since our inception in the US we’ve enjoyed developing great relationships with our partners in the US and world-wide. Three months ago, we began to get an influx of orders from the UK in particular and decided it best to launch an instance of Vape Ranger based in the UK. Our goal for our VapeRanger.co.uk platform is to shorten shipping times and reduce shipment costs for UK-based vapour stores.
VM: How did you get into vaping and why?
Joshua: After years of smoking one of my friends showed me an older model e-cig. I took a few pulls and instantly was hooked. My friend had gone from two packs a day to none. Later that
week I purchased my first e-cig and never looked back. We thought what better way than helping people to quit smoking by vaping?
Zachary: After opening six retail stores, we launched East Coast Vape Distribution. We noticed a gap in the vaping industry and seized a huge opportunity. This was a couple of years ago, when we saw vape stores opening across New York. Being one of the first true vape distributors in New York we developed great relationships with numerous stores and companies.
VM: What do you enjoy the most about working in the vaping industry?
Joshua: I enjoy helping people. To know that our goods are helping people and touching someone out there and shaping their lives by quitting smoking like the way it’s changed our lives, it’s a great feeling.
Zachary: We think it’s huge being a part of the emerging vaping industry. There are a lot of different factors that help expand the vaping world from innovative products to marketing, product development and so much more. It makes us so proud to be a part of something this exciting.

VM: What are the biggest challenges about running Vape Ranger?
Joshua: Targeting every store owner’s vaping needs may seem difficult at first but we strive to provide the best products as well as the newest products to the stores which is why we decided to further develop our business by launching in the UK - to help cater to clients there
Zachary: One of the main challenges is thinking outside the box but we are always aiming to develop the best efficient ways to get products to our clients as quickly as possible to advance the vaping industry.
VM: What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about vaping?
Joshua: There can be a huge lack of understanding and knowledge where some people make opinions without factual information but with the right information, we can make a difference.
Zachary: We believe that with the right education, it is the best possible way to combat misguided opinions on vaping. People need to be more informed on the healthier aspects of vaping.
VM: Any plans for 2017?
Joshua: Last month we kicked off the year with launching Vape Ranger in the UK and it was a fantastic way to start the year. We plan on visiting Birmingham in May for The Vaper Expo, that’s something we’re really looking forward to and hope we can meet a lot of our UK clients.
Zachary: We hope to develop our clientele in the UK and further develop the business. We strive to improve Vape Ranger and welcome any feedback. Also, we think the upcoming European and UK shows will be huge and look forward to meeting you all there!
VM: Where do you hope to see Vape Ranger in the next couple of years?
Joshua: Vape Ranger will also be a great source of information on TPD regulations as this compliance grows. We plan to provide a comprehensive directory of TPD compliant brands, similar to what we have created with FDA regulations here in the US. We want Vape Ranger to be a resourceful website where store owners can find the relevant information as well as the best products at the best prices.
Zachary: We really hope Vape Ranger becomes a standard in the European market, a place where all store owners search for to order e-juice. We want Vape Ranger to be partners of the companies we wholesale to by developing positive relationships with them. We also have huge plans in launching Vape Ranger in Russia and to service Western Europe.
Vape Ranger is designed to make the transaction of e-liquids more easier and cost-effective in the most efficient method to make the clients’ lives easier.
Clients can purchase their e-liquids and have them shipped to their designated location within a timely fashion.
Joshua and Zachary understand how difficult it can be for clients who are ordering large quantities of e-liquids from numerous wholesalers who are located in different countries.
Their solution to this problem is Vape Ranger - an online e-liquid wholesaler who distribute internationally from the USA and now more conveniently, from the UK. For more information, check out https://vaperanger.co.uk/

DIARY OF A VAPER
Jonathon Payne, a waste and refuse collector, from Stratford, London, tells Vapouround how he went from smoking forty cigarettes a day for twenty-two years to vaping. This is his story…
Like many ex-smokers, I started smoking at a young age and for me it was very young indeed. In fact since the age of 11, I smoked for twenty-two years.
There were days when I would smoke forty cigarettes a day and I would wake up coughing and had problems catching my breath after a short run down the street.
I was aware of the health detriments of smoking and the different types of diseases caused by smoking such as cancer and lung disease. However, that didn’t stop me from craving for a cigarette.
And then it happened. I suddenly realised what a fortune I was spending on cigarettes. The amount of tax I had to pay on cigarettes was rising annually and becoming more and more expensive. It was then I decided to find a way to quit the bad habit.
At the end of October last year, I heard about a mini look-alike cigarettes which you can smoke indoors. I became curious and decided to do some research about this online.
I came across “Indoor Smokers” on YouTube and realised there was a healthier, safer way to fix my nicotine cravings with an electronic cigarette.
Shortly after watching numerous e-cigarette reviews online, I bought my first e-cigarette and once I started vaping, gone were my tobacco cravings.
November 2015 was the highlight of my year as it was the month I quit smoking. It was a great way to end the year as an ex-smoker and start the new year with vaping.
After a month of vaping, I noticed a vape store called Vapour Gallery on my bus ride home from work. It instantly caught my attention as I became more familiar with the vaping equipment that was advertised in the store window.
When I walked into Vapour Gallery, I felt very welcomed and people helped me to pick out the perfect mod and e-juice that would cater to my vaping needs. They helped me find a product which I would enjoy vaping.
At the time I was introduced to vaping, the store seemed the most knowledgeable as they had a collection of mods and e-liquids to purchase.
There was also a sense of community in Vapour Gallery which I appreciated. This is one of the main things I love about vaping – the friendly vaping community.
From the very first time I purchased my products from Vapour Gallery, I have
continued to be a loyal customer and learned to develop a friendly relationship with the store manager as well as others. From vaping, I have developed a lot of confidence by talking to other avid vapers I’ve met at different vape events as well as at vape stores, all of whom I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sharing my passion on vaping.
Now that I have been vaping for over a year, I have witnessed the positive effects of vaping. I hardly go through any coughing during the day compared to when I was smoking. Much to my advantage, e-cigarettes are more costeffective in comparison to cigarettes.
Vaping has improved my health on a much larger scale, I feel healthier than I ever did when I was smoking especially since I know the ingredients in an e-cigarette are less harmful than a cigarette.

Vapouround Mini Awards:
We are looking for e-liquids in the Best Drink/Cocktail category
ongratulations to ‘Compulsion’ by Heidi Heisenberg’s Fetish Gourmet Elixirs as it has won the ‘Best Dessert’ in the Vapouround Magazine mini awards contest.
Compulsion will now automatically make it through the final of the main Awards Ceremony which will take place at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre in May.
The main awards have been designed to coincide with Vaper Expo UK which is also being held at the NEC during the same weekend.
And for the first time ever we are proud that the juice awards for exhibitors at the Expo will also be part of the main awards ceremony.
We are now really ramping up for the May event and our mini-awards is part of the build up.
The dessert winner Compulsion has a sweet, mouth-watering taste of a strawberry cheesecake with a fragrant aroma of marshmallows.
It is one of Heidi’s most popular e-liquids and she was very pleased when she found out the great news. She said: “I’m so happy because ‘Compulsion’ is definitely one of my favourites out of our 29 lines.”
Fetish Gourmet Elixirs launched in 2014 in Kettering as an online retailer and wholesaler. Heidi decided to start making her own e-liquids when she first started vaping. She said: “I tasted many different flavours when I started vaping and I became curious as to how to make the e-liquids myself. Now I have a range of 29 lines.”
Next up for the mini awards is the ‘Best Drink/Cocktail’ category and so be sure to get your entries in for that before April as the winner will be announced in the April edition of the magazine. We will need two bottles of each of the liquids you wish to enter in 3mg (maximum three flavours) and please be sure to label the juices as ‘Mini Awards Drink/Cocktail Competition.’
The Vapouround Awards 2017 Ceremony is something we are really looking forward to. It’s an extraordinary event for people to celebrate success within the vaping community.
Keep an eye out for the next edition for more details about the event.

Illusions Vapor
Established just over a year ago, Illusions Vapor is a premium e-juice brand that has not gone unnoticed –and for all the right reasons too. Unlike some e-liquid companies, they pride themselves on creating an aesthetically pleasing brand that is relevant and attracts vapers across all continents.
“We come from a background designing street wear, so we have always loved graphic design, art, and photography,” said marketing director Steve.
“When we first set out to create Illusions, we looked at other e-juice brands and noticed that everyone had the same approach to marketing their brand. If you look at the Illusions website and social media platforms, you will notice that we go the extra mile in the quality of our photos and videos. We also incorporate a street vibe element into the brand.”
From Canada to the UK, they made their presence known at the Vaper Expo UK, in May last year when they won ‘Best Fruit of the Show’ with their e-juice ‘Taste of Gods.’ Steve described this moment as “an unforgettable milestone.”
Motivated with ambition, they returned for the Vaper Expo UK – The Return in October. Their 30 x 40 custom-built artistic booth stood out from a milesuave and sophisticated are a few words
to describe it, most vapers agreed saying it looked “fresh.” Steve said the aim was “to offer an even better visual and interactive experience for our fans, and UK vapers.”
Their stand was inundated with vapers trying out their recent e-liquid line which debuted at the event, featuring quirky fruit flavours like, ‘Medusa,’ ‘Spellbound,’ and ‘Messiah.’ In total, Illusions Vapor have six premium flavours and each flavour has its own icon artwork on the bottle, as well as its own symbolic meaning. All their e-juices are made in their hometown in a certified ISO-7 lab.
Steve explained they always receive a positive reception when they rock up to events like this: “The reactions we get from shows are of genuine excitement. I feel as though people are really excited to meet the crew because they already feel like they have a personal connection with us. They are also always highly anticipating when the next set of new flavours are going to be launched.”
The team also interacts with its customers on a personal level via their social media outlets like Instagram and Facebook, holding contests and providing regular updates.
They spend a large proportion of their time travelling and attending international vape expos: “The Illusions crew practically live in the sky a large portion of our time. United Kingdom, Canada, Paris, Malaysia, China, Germany, just
to name a few, are countries we’ve attended shows in during the last few months.”
When asked how they define their achievements, Steve said: “Not being afraid of trying new concepts and bringing them to life. When everyone in the industry was doing the same type of bottle shots, Illusions was using professional models with a theme for every photo shoot. ASD Insider (The Retailers Guide) awarded Illusions Vapor the best e-juice Instagram page of 2016.” But all this quick success and drive could not have come without a good team, which for Steve is paramount: “I could not have asked for a better team; each person is an expert in their own field.”
Competing in the global marketplace, their products are sold in over a thousand shops across the orb. UK Vapers can purchase their products from UK ECig Store and Vape Club UK.

Introducing the Innovative Brand
VAPOUROUND VAPE LOUNGE DON’T JUST VAPE VAPOUROUND!
November 2016 saw the grand opening of The Vapouround Vape Lounge in Derby, so we decided to take a closer look at how this new addition to Derby’s city centre has been getting on.
Vapouround Vape Distribution decided to open a group of vape lounges across the UK and the Derby venue is the flagship branch.
With the bold slogan “Don’t just vape – Vapouround” the idea was to create
a fully stocked vape lounge, selling premium USA, and European juice, along with top quality hardware. It was designed to cater for everyone from first time users wanting to quit cigarettes, right through to the most experienced of vapers wanting to build their own coils and purchase the latest merchandise.
Paul Caplin, managing director of Vapouround said: “We wanted to create a place for vapers to come and chill out, read a magazine, get a coffee, and get expert advice whether they were new to
the world of vaping or a seasoned pro.” Paul believes that we have achieved that exact environment based on the feedback we have received from customers since November.
The stunning lounge boasts some of the top juice lines from across the globe, all the latest hardware from top manufacturers, as well as fantastic in house staff that will give you expert advice whatever your needs.
With fantastic surroundings, flat screen televisions, comfortable sofas to chill out on, the opportunity to grab a coffee and

enjoy a vape in peace, this really is a vapor’s haven.
The brand new Vapouriz Vape Box testing stations, where people can try various premium juices for free is also a huge hit with customers.
Area manager Paul Johnson said he was thrilled that the lounge has already built up a loyal following of regular customers in such a short time.
He said: “The vape lounge has attracted many vapers who return on a regular basis, proving that they are enjoying the surroundings as well as liking the range
of stock that we carry. The lounge has many plans moving forward in order to attract different groups of people, including weekly vape meets and starter classes, where smokers will have the opportunity to attend workshops held in the lounge to find out how they can best switch from smoking to vaping.
Paul added: “There are so many smokers who desperately want to quit but they are confused about vaping and don’t have all the facts. We want to take away their confusion and show that
switching from smoking to vaping does not need to be a daunting process.”
Also in the pipeline are workshops for experienced vapours to teach them how to build coils safely and answer any questions that they may have surrounding any vape related topics.
Based on the success of the Derby store, further vape lounges will be rolled out across the UK in the coming months.
“Don’t just vape – vapouround” may be the slogan, but this seems to be something they live up to and take very seriously.

In October 2016 the team behind the Vapouround brand introduced its latest asset…the Vapouround vape bus.
Originally it was intended to show the world how absurd the TPD regulations surrounding advertising had become.
For example the TPD would make advertising vaping products to vapers in a vape magazine illegal while allowing anyone, including children, to see a vape billboard on the street or vape adverts on a passing bus.
We thought it was so crazy that we decided to buy our own bus as a not so subtle way of showing two fingers to the regulations.
However the vape bus was to take on a life of its own and we soon realised that it could be an amazingly powerful tool and a really valuable asset for the good of the UK’s vaping community.
Very quickly the bus became less of a two fingers up to the regulations, and a massive asset in order to help get the message out about vaping as well as encourage people to give up smoking, and show them there is an alternative.
The success of the bus was already evident in the first three months of taking to the roads. Birmingham, Leicester, Derby and Sutton in Ashfield, were just a few of the places that the bus visited, attracting many visitors and members of the public as it helped spread the vaping message.
The success was so evident that the team decided to extend the tour. The bus was taken to the depot where it was rewrapped with new visually appealing logos and advertisments, as well as a complete makeover giving it fresh look. The tour dates have also been extended in order to spread the vaping message even further across the country.
Jorgie Shaw, events coordinator for the Vapouround bus, said: “We have had huge success across the country with the tour so far, so much so we have adopted a new initiative that invites smokers on to our bus to swap their cigarettes for a vaping starter kit.
“We also give them as much advice and help on vape-related matters as they need and this has proved to be an
amazingly popular feature of the bus tours.
“Smokers love it and we also love it because it is a great feeling for us all every time we can help someone quit smoking.”
Another success story for the bus has been the money it has raised for charity. This includes a charity event that the bus was invited to in Derby at a vape store called Del Boys. This event raised over £1,100 for a brain tumour charity, and raised awareness across its local community, as well as getting coverage in the local paper.
Paul Caplin managing director of Vapouround commented: “We are exited to announce the second edition Vapouround bus tour along with its new look and we look forward to seeing the great work it achieves and the awareness that it brings.
“We will be continuing this tour as long as it can help make a difference across the UK and I am so pleased that it has received such a great reception everywhere it has been so far.

ON BIG TOBACCO, THE ANTI-TOBACCO LOBBY AND THE VAPING INDUSTRY
ON BIG TOBACCO, THE ANTI-TOBACCO LOBBY AND THE VAPING INDUSTRY
PART II PART II
n the last issue, former Winston Man David Goerlitz told how he turned his back on a $100,000-a-year career promoting tobacco and then dedicated his life to helping prevent youngsters from starting to smoke in the first place.
In the concluding part of this feature, we look at how David turned to e-cigarettes and discover why he is now a passionate advocate for the vaping industry. You might think it takes some doing to fall out of favour with both Big Tobacco and the anti-tobacco movement…but David Goerlitz has managed to do just that. He says things started to go wrong for him with the anti-tobacco lobby when the ‘stop smoking’ message actually started to work and have an impact on cigarette sales.
David says each was as greedy as the other, with the tobacco companies wanting the income from getting people addicted to nicotine and the anti-tobacco movement wanting the grants and funding
to stay in business.
Obviously if more and more people quit smoking then both the tobacco industry and the anti-tobacco industries would decline. David says both sides were, in fact, working to continue with the status quo and that meant more people would continue to die needlessly each year.
He said: “For 15 years they didn’t script me, they let me say what I wanted but now we were making a difference and consumption was going down a little bit things changed.
“By about 2006 the anti-tobacco people didn’t want me to say this or didn’t want me to say that and I was just as adamant that I didn’t want to be scripted.
“We all know that smoking kills and when I said the tobacco industry was immoral it made sense to a lot of people and I wanted to keep on saying it.
“I know a lot of people, including people in my family, who have died from a smoking-caused illness so I wanted to speak out against smoking.
“In 2006 I pretty much had it with the whole thing because nobody wanted me to tell the truth any more. Big Tobacco and the antitobacco industry were all complicit with each other so I stopped working for the anti-tobacco people.
“I just have to tell my story. I am not going to not go away. The tobacco industry is afraid of me, the anti-tobacco movement considers me a traitor and I don’t care.”
David had no real plan for what he wanted to do next until the first e-cigarette devices started hitting the market from China.
They looked like normal cigarettes, their tips even glowed red, and they caught on

really quickly as more and more smokers discovered that they could help them quit tobacco for good.
David saw the potential in these early, rather crude devices, so set out on a little experiment to see if they really worked to help smokers quit.
He gave out 30 of them among his circle of smoking friends and within a week 17 of that group had quit tobacco in favour of vaping.
David said: “I thought that result was amazing. And remember this was with the early quite horrible e-cigs that weren’t really perfected back then but it was still better than smoking a cigarette.
“All of a sudden three or four years down the road we are seeing a million people quit smoking, then two million and so on.
“By 2009 and 2010 vape shops were opening up, there were new, innovative devices on sale and there was an explosion in demand for e-cigarettes.
“In addition e-cigarettes didn’t hurt your lungs because there were only five ingredients instead of 4,762 in a traditional cigarette, of which at least 67 of those cause cancer.
“Now I am not a rocket scientist but if I am going to do the math I would rather use something with five ingredients than 4,762.
“Nicotine is an addictive substance but it does not kill you. It is about as harmful as caffeine.”
And so with the advent of e-cigarettes, David, once again, found an industry that he could get behind and promote as a way to get smokers off tobacco. He is angry that governments have chosen to regulate the vaping industry in the same way as the tobacco industry even though there is no tobacco in vaping products.
David went on: “Scientists have proven that the toxicity of a vaping device is minimal and yet Big Government calls this tobacco and says they are going to regulate it like tobacco.
“If the government, under the guise of public health, found anything that was better than tobacco they should have
thrown tons of money into research and fast-tracked it through the FDA.
“Why should it take ten years to go through the pre-marketing tobacco application at $500,000-a-year which is that the FDA is forcing this community to do with every liquid, every device, every coil and every mouthpiece?
“They want them out of business because Big
“There are some people in vaping who just got into it for the money and they are making a lot of money making their liquid next to the urinal in the back room of their shop and we don’t need people like that in the industry..”
“Let the bad vape shops and the people making lousy juice which is not lab tested get weeded out,” said David.
“Vaping should be reasonably regulated and reasonably taxed and it most certainly should not be regulated out of existence.
“You either have a product that is safer than smoking or it is not and everything indicates, including the people who are opposed to it, that vaping is safer than smoking.
“We don’t know how much yet but we do know that for every cigarette a smoker does not smoke it is better to replace it with vaping than continue to inhale the chemicals, tars, poisons and gases in traditional cigarettes.
Tobacco is the only one that can afford the pre-market tobacco application. Big Tobacco has billions of dollars to fast-track their products because they have them already.”
David is particularly critical of the two main arguments which are often repeated about the safety of e-cigarettes: that we don’t know the long term effects of vaping and we need to do more testing.
He said: “We know the long-term effects of tobacco and yet we still allow that to be sold.
“The other narrative is that we still need more testing. Well do it because you have the money. How long does it take to check five ingredients?
He said the vaping industry needed to be regulated but insisted that regulation needs to be both sensible and reasonable.
“I went to the casino the other night. You can smoke cigarettes at the table but you can’t vape. Now is that not the most obnoxious, obscene thing? It is for me because it just doesn’t make any sense. “I can’t fathom it. I now feel like I am stupid. What am I missing here? We know what we know. The proof is there. Look at the science. Somebody is lying. The Royal College of Physicians in the UK is pretty solid and they are recommending vaping and e-cigs so this is why I say my government doesn’t care and that is upsetting to me.”
David also features in the pro-vaping movie A Billion Lives and has been very active in promoting the film to as many audiences as possible in the USA and Europe.
He may have angered Big Tobacco and been labeled a traitor by the anti-tobacco movement but one thing is certain; nobody is going to stop the former Winston Man preaching his anti-smoking and pro-vaping message.

STEPHEN BUSS
After the last issues interview, the UK’s leading TPD expert Stephen Buss is back with another action packed update on what he has been up to in the fight for vaping. His regular feature has put some of the World’s biggest manufacturers and distributors minds at rest and his company is recognised as a true Champion of Public Health.

OH WHERE DO I START!
Another eventful month departs in this ever evolving Vape Industry,
I’ve survived my first character assassination, which was a tad entertaining as I was overseas at the time. It amazes me how armchair “know all, know nothings” find the gall to belittle people’s efforts.
With that aside, this last month has seen me in the throws of obtaining funding to help not only Vape Compliance, but to conduct some structured science to arm the advocates and lawyers with a view to changing how vaping is viewed, as it is still smoking regarding its regulation. The opportunity to consider funding was a bit of a surprise, funny how things come when you don’t go looking for them.
I have been privy to a few high profile documents due out the woodwork, the MHRA by the time this goes to print will be providing another round of guidance, but what baffles me is that this almost comes too late and I wonder why some people’s acts were not sorted out sooner.
The WHO FCTC COP7 toilet reading has also surfaced and on reflection it is no wonder we face an uphill struggle regarding vaping.
My fingers and toes are crossed for a delay in November notifications but that does not mean we should be lapse in our responsibility due to faith in delay. Europe is divided about uploads and importer responsibility and some EU governments like Germany surprisingly
want it all, however, irrespective of this, 20th November is the deadline for more countries than just the UK. So, it has been interesting of late on the scientific front; emissions results and toxicity reports galore have kept us all very busy, burning the midnight oil. Talking of oil, I have been back to America on ISO 9001 duties and a battery of meetings with new TPD clients and state side advocates. Since I last wrote I have seen attitudes change amongst those striving to complete a notification, desperation has now set in and panic mode is widely seen on my travels.
During my time in America I have seen some great progress. We are working with some of the most famous of American flavour houses to upload ingredient CAS and % level of inclusion confidentially to the portal and more importantly allow Toxicity reports to be complied and signed off.
Toxicity is a very special subject to us here at Vape Compliance and we can probably boast one of the best groups of Independent Toxicity scientists going. Our team consists of Dr’s of Oncology, a Dr of Epidemiology and Dr’s of Toxicology who spearheaded a 10-person undergraduate team, which means we can keep up with the throughput of emissions results from the lab.
Public health was the reason why Vape compliance was formed, although we represent the interests of our clients in more ways than one. We are not negligent to the extent of making liquid formulations look as if they can pass

when in the eyes of the regulator. The last thing we want is to update with a substantial modification to these notifications unless unavoidable.
In recent weeks, good news has been received regarding cross borders sales and notification. There are just six member states left to decide on whether a notification made in one member state is valid in another (although it kind of makes a mock of the union that member states can be so inconsistent amongst each other with something as important as this directive).
There are a few reasons for this instability and the main one for is the quality of the nicotine and the acidity of the taste enhancers. These results are also seen with some citrus flavours used commonly in todays top shelf buys. For those into science it relates to protein coating and for those that are not think of a crispy-coated peanut. Talking of nuts, I have eaten my words and put them into practice and been in the lab one last time in helping develop a new carrier to replace PG and VG. I wrote on this subject a couple of years ago and final Toxicity has been received and reported. There were a few reasons for developing a carrier to replace PG and VG, for a start it will stop all the bullshit and confusion as to the long-term safety on inhalation of existing carriers as the one developed is potentially 90% safer!
Problems with the stability, decomposition, and impurity factors of PG and VG have drawn us to researching alternatives to these
Laboratory space is now at a premium and we have noticed some increases in prices as testing requirements have changed thanks to some last minute intervention by the latest MHRA guidance

known flavor carriers. The long-term problem with the current sufficient carriers is actually one of their shining properties in the medicinal world. The wick away properties, the ability to absorb and carry large volumes of water out of the body, render them in exposures as high as vapers use, questionable at best in a long-term health assessment.
Wicking water away and out of the body in these volumes can have an immuno-suppression effect and over
This product is by in large an aqueous solution, allowing it to be metabolized by the bodies tissues more efficiently. Even though predominantly water, its gel-like substance will pave the way to safer handling of nicotine in its most concentrated form.
So, this means the new carrier will have a dual role in helping this industry move forward in terms of improving the innovation for positive public health benefit purposes.
Now that was a long sentence, I need to pause for afternoon tea.
The carrier vapour production can be controlled through slight changes in the volumes of H20 allowing for thicker or thinner production based on a client’s needs or desires.
Shelf life is exponentially increased and stability of flavor and nicotine concentration is more accurately quantified. So the future is very bright and more than rosy lee.
So Vaporound magazine are truly going global, I have had questions coming in from all over the world of late and some very interesting ones too, I will not bore you any longer and in true fashion get down to some Science and Regulation Q&A.
Hello Stephen, do you have any information regarding product leaflets for E-Liquid?
Many thanks Matt P, Aldershot
Yes Matt, if you can fit all the required information on your product’s label then you may not need to include a separate leaflet in the box or pack. Peel away labels are coming into fashion but they are expensive. My advice is try to get everything you need on box or leaflet and this leaves your bottle relatively free for branding.
time we predict a heavy burden on the bodies main filtering system… the kidneys.
Having discussed the safety of the new carrier with our Head of Toxicity, the initial results have been very encouraging and the inclusion of nicotine and flavour have proved successful on first phase testing trials. Potentially more than 90% safer than PG and VG, it is spill proof, and it protects the integrity of nicotine from citric acid content due to the protein coating so remember that one when it comes to future Med Pub’s.
I have heard we need to display in list form all of our liquid ingredients, is this true?
George Phillips, Bradford
Unfortunately yes, which demonises this product even more as you do not see 4000+ ingredients on the side of a packet of cigarettes.
Well the MHRA’s interpretation of article 20(4) of the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) could of done us more favours, but lets not forget they are a pretty much two person department when it comes to regulating our E-Cig industry, if you didn’t know!

Note that all ingredients in the product should be listed on the label where they are used in quantities of 0.1% or more of the final formulation of the e-liquid.
0.1% in my opinion is a bit of a joke due to levels of statistical significance, but then the commission and subsequent twisted interpretations have made best attempts at making a mock of the lengths companies need to go through to obtain regulatory status as this potentially reduces big tobacco competition in this sector. Where a flavour ingredient contains several component chemicals, the MHRA considered it acceptable to describe the ingredient on the label by the name of the flavour, for example ‘strawberry flavour’. For confidentiality reasons companies may choose to describe individual ingredients used in quantities below 0.1% of the final formulation by category, for example ‘other flavourings’.
This advice only applies to product labels, and a full list of ingredients in the flavouring must be included in notifications through the EU-CEG.
Can I take my flavour house to court? They are not releasing CAS numbers to me and I am legally obliged to provide profile details, as you know. What is your best advice? Also if this is a magazine question can I remain anonymous?
Mr Anonymous, Somewhere overseas
especially if the lack of information stops your company from notification and producing product after November 20th for the European market.
I would maybe broach the subject with your flavour house and establish if they own the IP on the formulation you manufacture and sell. Some flavour houses have opened up and started to disclose to us the CAS % levels of inclusion under NDA and transferring via secure FTP upload so do not despair, although slow, things are starting to move and company attitudes are starting to change too.
I’ve heard that if you have a tobacco flavour it now needs a new test for TSNA’s, however when we completed notification this test was not included, do we have to amend our notification?
Mr G Green, London
In a nut shell, yes, and this TSNA test has only recently been included as an MHRA requirement. I am almost fearful of by how much these goal posts can keep changing so close to the deadline. I’m not the only one thinking that these changes and requests are not legal at this late stage based on our clear deadline of November 20th. The labs are full or filling up at a rate nobody expected and if you were unlucky enough to notify early then these changes in requirement do need to be addressed.
I am struggling to understand what is required for notification regarding Toxicological information, can you summarise what is required for liquids and why?
Mr J Shah, Manchester
Toxicology is the most important part of the process in my opinion, it basically dictates whether a product is safe for human use and consumption, straight forward when it comes to hardware and extremely complex when we look at liquid formulations.
You first need your formulation broken down into its individual component parts and to provide CAS numbers for every ingredient as a start including % levels of inclusion.
Once your emissions tests come back from the lab the toxicological research can be completed and signed off per flavour profile.
If any red flags are identified, our Tox team will help re-formulate in order to provide an amendment to any notification previously submitted. Hope this helps!
Now having answered a few of your questions, I am back with the nose on the grindstone, the next two months will fly past, I have very little time to myself as it is and I think come Christmas I will be feet up looking at the next round of challenges that face this industry. Keep your questions coming in, I answer all of them even if they’re not included in print so do not be shy. I look forward to writing my next Vaporound feature.

ASMODUS CUSTOM-DESIGNED CHIPSETS ARE BUILT FOR PERFORMANCE, FUNCTIONALITY AND LONG BATTERY LIFE
When people select a mod they may not give much thought to the chipsets that drive them.
However the chips used in a mod can make a huge difference when it comes to really important things such as performance and battery life.
One company which has given a lot of thought to chipsets is asMODus which only uses its unique custom-designed chipsets for its products.
These innovative chips start at 80 watts and go all the way up to 180 watts and are all built with maximum performance in mind.
They have been designed to incorporate a variety of functions to meet the needs of today’s e-cigarette users, including temperature control, TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance), TFR (Temperature Factor of Resistance) and flavour adjustment.
asMODus knows that vapers are constantly searching for more functionality and better performance while, at the same time, wanting to get the best possible life out of
their batteries.
There is little point in having a device with amazing functionality and performance if the downside is that batteries drain really rapidly and need recharging far too often.
The vaping industry has come a long way in a very short time and it has evolved at an astonishing rate considering how relatively young it is. Modern devices are a far cry from the early e-cigarettes and the levels of
performance and functionality are higher than ever before.
This can only be achieved by advanced chipsets and the asMODus research and development department have pulled out all the stops in getting this crucial component right.
asMODus has recently announced its top-of-the-range GX-180HT chipset which has been designed in-house with the very highest of performance in mind for the most discerning of vaper.
The GX-180-HT has been designed to support many features including:
DUAL BATTERY INDUCTORS
TOUCH SCREEN FUNCTIONALITY
180W MAXIMUM OUTPUT WATTAGE
TC, CURVE, TCR AND TFR MODES
SYSTEM UPGRADABILITY VIA USB PROTECTION AGAINST MOISTURE AND DUST
FR-4 GRADE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

The GX-180-HT is no ordinary chipset. For a start it has been made with the very highest quality components to set it apart from the competition and ensure that its performance and reliability are second to none.
Both sides of the chipset are also moisture-proof and dust-proof. The chipset has been given non-corrosive anti-aging protection to increase overall stability and extend its life.
The printed circuit board (PCB) meets FR-4 grade specifications which means it is extremely high in mechanical strength and has superior electrical characteristics, which are exhibited over a wide range of temperatures and humidities.
At 1.6mm thick it is also thicker and far more durable than many other brands’ chipsets - a feature which is not noticeable from looking at the outside of the device but which makes a huge difference in terms of reliability.
The dual battery inductors are also specially made and feature inner copper wiring and iron powder housings. This, coupled with equally distributed balance charging via USB, means that the GX180-HT delivers a really smooth output all the way up to the maximum 180 watts.
Inductors featured on other brands’ devices will not provide the same quality of performance that the GX-180-HT can achieve but asMODus knows that performance is a key factor in the choice of device for discerning vapers.
The wires which connect the chipset to the device have a silicone exterior with a core consisting of silver plated copper lines. This means that the wires are capable of withstanding high temperatures while maintaining a low internal resistance.
This feature is very important as it helps reduce the gradual power loss that vapers can often experience when their device is being used for an extended period of time.
Quite simply the GX-180-HT is unlike any other chipset found in the e-cigarette industry and is a work of excellent craftsmanship where only the highest quality components have been used. No corners were cut at any stage of the production process, from the initial design stage to choice of materials and then on to the actual manufacturing itself. This was key to ensuring that the performance, stability, reliability and endurance of the GX-180-HT is unrivalled in the industry.
82 ISSUE 09 VAPOUROUND MAGAZINE FEATURE
FEATURED ON OTHER BRANDS’ DEVICES WILL NOT PROVIDE THE SAME QUALITY OF PERFORMANCE THAT THE GX-180-HT CAN ACHIEVE BUT ASMODUS KNOWS THAT PERFORMANCE IS A KEY FACTOR IN THE CHOICE OF DEVICE FOR DISCERNING VAPERS. VAPOUROUND MAGAZINE ISSUE 09 83
INDUCTORS
By way of example, your average dual battery box mod uses a chipset which only contains a single battery inductor and this means that it can only achieve around 90 per cent efficiency. As a result, a single battery inductor at the recommended setup for a 200 watts rated box mod can only achieve an actual output of 180.9 watts. This limitation is not a factor for the asMODus GX-180-HT chip because of its design features which mean that it can boast an efficiency of around 96 per cent.
The specific features which help ensure that the efficiency is so high include: dual battery inductors, ceramic capacitors that can regulate temperature more efficiently, a thicker PCB board, copper foil wiring and advanced switched power supply control technology.
With the GX-180-HT performing at 96% work efficiency we are now looking at a 192.96 watts output on the theoretical 200 watt output in our example. (It would be impossible to achieve an actual 200 watt output because no device works at 100 per cent efficiency.)
Another very welcome benefit of higher
efficiency is that battery life is also extended compared with a similar device using an inferior chipset and, as previously mentioned, battery life is increasingly becoming a very important factor for a lot of vapers.
The GX-180-HT also features a unique Curve Function which gives a more customised vaping experience by way of a special time control function. Here vapers can set the power and the duration of set power over the working cycle of 10 seconds.
With output power backed by the advanced switching power supply technology, this means that the GX-180HT can reach the power selected from zero in only 11.9ms.
The GX-180-HT provides accurate curves every time and that is something that no other chip can do.
The advanced vector control algorithms which are used to regulate the temperature means that the temperature control mode is able to perform much better than the results obtained by other chipsets.
When dry-firing, once the temperature reaches its set value, a very small amount of power is output for thermal
insulation to keep the temperature hovering at the correct value and prevent the cotton from burning. Tests have shown that even with a range of different wattages and temperature settings the GX-180-HT has a high consistency of the temperature algorithms.
Once the GX-180-HT registers that the cotton is dry, output is instantly dropped and kept at a low level to ensure that no burning occurs.
In normal operation, ie where e-liquid has been added to the cotton in the coil, there is an initial rapid rise in temperature and then a reduction in output power once the desired temperature has been reached.
This means that the device can reach the desired temperature as quickly as possible. When the chipset senses that the temperature has fallen below the desired value then the output power will rapidly rise again and then taper off to ensure that the correct temperature is maintained.
This is a process which can be repeated many times in a matter of milliseconds over the course of the firing time to ensure that the right temperature is
84 ISSUE 09 VAPOUROUND MAGAZINE FEATURE
quickly reached and then maintained.
The GX-180-HT also uses a more userfriendly touch screen which is preferred by many over the more traditional mode of operation by way of multiple key presses.
While many touch screen chipsets use 2.4inch or larger TFT-LCD screens, the Asmodus chipset features a smaller OLED screen which has improved touch sensitivity and which easily outperforms other screens.
Improved safety is also a key function of the GX-180-HT’s functionality and it does this by helping to ensure that both of the batteries are maintained at equal voltage after charging.
When the voltages of two batteries are not equal, then the battery with the higher power will be overcharged, which can result in a fire or explosion under certain conditions.
While many vapers will be familiar with this balance charging functionality with chipsets such as the DNA 200, the downside is that the rate of charging occurs very slowly.
AsMODus has spent a vast amount of time and resources into the development of the balance charging functionality of this chipset to provide the most effective
and secure battery charging longevity.
As we stated at the beginning of this article, the vaping industry is changing at a really rapid pace and this fast rate of change is something which is likely to continue.
This is why the chip comes with USB system upgradability so that the devices powered by the GX-180-HT can be kept up to date at all times.
The two main ways of performing a systems upgrade are network or local upgrades.
Network upgrades take place when client software has been installed by the customer on their computer and the computer is then connected to servers over the internet.
The downside with network upgrades is that they can sometimes fail due to an incomplete transfer of the file online, or even anti-virus software interfering with the update, corrupting the data.
To ensure this does not happen to asMODus devices, the GX-180-HT upgrades are carried out using local upgrades where the user downloads update packages from official websites and then installs the package themselves.
The benefits of this approach is that no
data errors can occur and vapers are able to update their devices at their own convenience.
All asMODus devices are crafted with quality, reliability and high performance in mind so it is little wonder that so much thought goes into the internal components which are used.
Founder Eddie Yin has said this has always been the case and always will be.
He is proud that the very first asMODus device - a 26650 mechanical tube mod called the Fat Snow Wolf - was named the ‘Best New Mod’ when it made its first appearance at the Vape Summit Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Since then asMODus has constantly developed and improved its product line, always setting new standards for excellence along the way.
Not only do all asMODus products look great on the outside but they are designed to ensure that the internal components are chosen to give the very best vaping experience for the customer.
Investing so much time and energy in developing state-of-the-art proprietary chipsets is just one of the ways that ensures that asMODus products stand apart from the competition.

Liquid Sciences was born in late 2014 in Irvine, California. With a handful of employees, the team worked nights manufacturing e-liquids for vape shops and distributors. After a few months, they were up to their ears in propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and swimming in hundreds of flavors. The employees gave up their day jobs to pursue additional business in the e-liquid industry.
More equipment, more people, and of course more regulations and directives
from the regulatory agencies, were just a few of the obstacles in their path as they pursued the next level in the challenging world of e-liquids.
Liquid Sciences continued to manufacture products for their current customers but understood that having their own brand of products was a necessity to keep climbing the levels in this industry. Magically, or out of necessity, the Naked Fish products came swimming into the Liquid Sciences net. The Naked Fish e-juice products were

reformulated until the flavors were given the big thumbs up by hundreds of vapers. The names would have to be as cool as the ocean and that they were… Piranha, Wahoo, Barracuda, Great White, Blue Marlin, and Sting Ray all became very popular with vapers. Word of mouth and the occasional shows were not going to expand these products into the next level. What the doctor ordered was a sales team to push the products to the thousands of vape stores around the globe. The sales people must be able to sell ice cubes to Eskimos. Nothing but the very best
sales force would get Liquid Sciences on the next level.
The sales team realized that more products (more flavors) with an ambitious brand name would be necessary to keep pace with the aggressive competition in this race. The next level was clearly in sight and a new product line was directly in front of this level but still the question remained, what is the name of the new product?
This could not simply be yet another juice line. It had to be different and instantly recognisable. Mello Buddha was chosen as the brand name and the
flagship product would be in a bamboo bottle. The flavors would be next and came from the Liquid Sciences archives.

Names like Wisdom, Karma, Nirvana, Namaste, and Zen Master were applied to the five new children of the Liquid Sciences family of products.
Now Liquid Sciences was rapidly climbing the levels and the company’s infrastructure was keeping pace. New investors brought along a board of directors with unique talents, flavor chemists, a quality assurance specialist, shipping experts, and a menagerie of outside people helped to fill the zoo. Even a laboratory was added to the facility with new mixers and instruments for testing the e-liquids.
next level would be easy or maybe not…implementing standard operating procedures to meet the FDA’s current good manufacturing practices. Last but certainly not least was registering the Liquid Sciences products with the European Union and the Food and
Drug Administration. Every flavor of the Naked Fish and Mello Buddha product line was examined to meet the EU TPD Article 20 of Directive2014/40/EU. Liquid Sciences today is a FDA registered facility with all products listed with the FDA and the TPD division of the EU.
Today, Liquid Sciences is a multimillion dollar company and is working hard to keep developing and evolving to remain at the forefront of the vaping industry. The company has come a long way since 2014 but the journey is far from over yet.

HISTORY OF THE WORD ‘VAPING’
It is widely accepted that as far as the modern electronic cigarette is concerned, the man credited with its invention is Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik. He created the first commercially successful electronic cigarette in 2003 and since then the global vaping industry has grown around the world to what it is today.
Modern devices are a far cry from the early e-cigarettes, e-liquids are not limited to tobacco flavours and ‘vaping’ is a term in common usage, however the word ‘vaping’ is first recorded long before Hon Lik had his initial brainwave. It can actually be traced back to a presentation made by Dr Norman L Jacobson from San Antonio, Texas to the American College of Chest Physicians in November 1979.
The report was titled: “Non-combustible cigarette: Alternative method of nicotine delivery” and refers to a nicotine delivery system which contained no “tar, carbon monoxide and other by-products of smoking [which] are injurious to health.”
Dr Jacobson said: “This presentation describes a practical and apparently satisfying method of administrating nicotine by nicotine vapour inhalation via a non-combustible cigarette (NCC). “We will hereafter refer to nicotine vapour inhalation through an NCC as vaping and people who inhale nicotine vapour as vapers.”
He described the new vaping device as being of similar shape and size to a standard cigarette and added: “Vaping represents the immediate inhalation of 3-400 cc of nicotine laced air directly into the lungs.”
Dr Jacobson then described a clinical trial of the device where six subjects were tested over a nine day period. He said: “Changing from the puffing technique for cigarette smoking to nicotine vapour inhalation was easily
accomplished by all subjects and no side effects occurred with normal NCC usage.
“Nicotine inhalation seems satisfying and we have demonstrated that nicotine vapour can be inhaled.
“Vapers have the advantage [over smokers] of vaping while working, attending class and flying, since there are no noxious fumes and odours to offend non smokers.
“If NCCs are widely accepted it will substantiate the growing conviction that nicotine alone is the habituating ingredient in cigarette smoking.
“Subsequently it will be necessary to determine if inhaling NCC causes a reduction of diseases attributed to cigarette smoking.”
A report of the presentation later appeared in a publication called Medical World News in February 1980.
The report, which was headlined “Smokeless cigs: they satisfy”, began: “Yet another way to help presumed nicotine addicts kick the habit may be a paperless, tobaccoless nicotine ‘cigarette’ that looks just like the usual kind but doesn’t burn.
“Inhaling through it - a process interest Norman L Jacobson here calls vaping - gives would-be ex-smokers the satisfaction they need without requiring them to breathe carbon monoxide and tar, claims Dr Jacobson.”
Neither at the original presentation, nor in the Medical World News article were any details given of how the new vaping device worked or how it was constructed.
Dr Jacobson was later tracked down by Ashtray Blog (the blog of e-cigarette direct) and he told them that it was a very low-tech device indeed.
It actually contained filter paper which had been soaked in nicotine and pure nicotine would be pulled off the paper when air was drawn through it by the vaper.
Unlike today’s devices it produced no vapour at all, did not contain any flavouring and had no electronic parts at all.
Dr Jacobson told the blog: “At the time we were not aware of anyone who had considered inhaling pure nicotine, so at the time we were clearly the first ones, and yes, we invented the term vaping.” The device was later marketed commercially and sold via large grocery stores in the western USA. It was, however, unsuccessful as the liquid nicotine had a very short shelf life when exposed directly to the air and users reported that it tasted very bitter.

GLASS V PLASTIC BOTTLES… IS ONE BETTER THAN THE OTHER?
Does it matter whether e-liquid manufacturers choose to use glass or plastic bottles?
Is one better than the other? Which one would come out tops in a bottle-to-bottle fight?
If you search online for ‘glass v plastic’ bottles, one could be mistaken for believing that this was one of the most important issues in the entire e-liquid industry.
There are people who have very strong views that plastic bottles are best and others who insist that only glass will fit the bill as far as they are concerned.
Some insist that e-liquids will keep better and for longer in glass bottles or that the chemicals in plastic bottles will leach into the liquids over time. But what are the facts?
Well all e-liquid bottles must serve a primary purpose of storing their contents safely and securely.
Regardless of the material they are made from, they must also be able to meet the regulatory requirements of the countries in which they are sold.
Both glass and plastic are widely used throughout the vaping industry so the first point to make is that both glass and plastic are capable of doing their job properly when it comes to storing e-liquids.
There are no safety implications when you are buying your liquids from a reputable supplier regardless of their choice of glass or plastic.
One argument is that glass bottles look more attractive than plastic ones and there are many who take this view.
However there are also some very good looking plastic bottles out there and, at the end of the day, it is down to personal preference which container one finds more pleasing.
It is certainly true that glass bottles are very versatile when it comes to looks. They can be clear, opaque, frosted, coloured, lightly tinted and it is possible to etch designs directly onto their surface.
But glass does come at a price…quite literally. It is more expensive to buy than plastic and because glass bottles are
If your liquid is in glass bottles then you will be need to be more careful than if it is in plastic as glass is less likely to withstand mishandling than plastic. Dropping a plastic bottle on a hard surface may cause no damage at all whereas the same fall could break the glass.
Jordan Skoglund, account manager at Liquid Bottles, an e-liquid glass and plastic bottle supplier in Florida, USA, said one material wasn’t necessarily better than the other.
He said: “We sell just as many plastic bottles as we do glass. It all depends on the customer and even the manufacturers who are looking to set themselves apart from their competitors.”
Debates on online forums ask whether glass is better for long-term storage than plastic and you might notice that your

e-liquid comes with an expiry date which is long into the future - perhaps one or two years.
It is certainly possible that people may have so many e-liquids that it takes them a year or more to get through them but this would probably be the exception rather than the rule.
“Regular vapers will probably not store their e-liquids for two years. If you’re a vaper, you’ll vape your e-liquids straight away,” said Jordan.
The vaping industry is growing rapidly and branching out internationally and there are many bottle suppliers who have various materials and sizes to meet the market’s needs.
Jordan states that, “It’s up to the e-liquid manufacturer and bottle supplier to help them find the right bottle at the right price to distribute in a timely fashion.”
He says that the way consumers use their e-liquid bottles is more important than the material they are made from. As a bottle supplier, Jordan emphasises that vapers can get easily confused with e-liquid bottles and mix up their bottles and caps which can lead to the contents leaking out.
Jordan said: “If all vapers knew how to
properly apply the cap, it would break down leaking issues with bottles.
“Some vapers don’t know the difference between each cap. I’ve seen child resistant caps on the wrong type of bottle and I’ve seen tamper evident caps on the wrong bottle too.”
Jordan advises that it’s important vapers are aware of the bottles and the cap that is paired with it to avoid e-liquid leakage and glass breakage.
He also advises that there are video tutorials online and helpful advice in vape stores to show vapers how to use bottles and adds: “There are many different styles of bottles that can make customers feel overwhelmed especially if they buy a product that breaks and spills. “It’s not necessarily the bottle or the vapers fault but it’s important to be aware of the different styles of bottles and caps.”
Eyad Aboabdo, co-founder of Chubby Gorilla, which manufactures and sells a range of plastic e-liquid bottles, says customer convenience should be a key consideration when it comes to bottle choice.
He said: “Daily used products should be convenient to use, easy to store, and
should be designed with the user in mind.”
Eyad designed his Signature Unicorn Bottles with this concept in mind and says they are easier to handle and use than glass bottles.
He added: “Glass bottles break and glass droppers make a mess and liquid gets all over the place.
“Our products dispense the liquids without making a mess. Glass droppers are wide and don’t fit in most applications but our Unicorn Bottles feature a narrow dispensing tip that fit all applications.”
Finally it is worth noting that whether your current e-liquid came in glass or plastic, the propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin it contains will almost certainly have been shipped and stored in plastic containers.
There are pros and cons for both glass and plastic and it is impossible to say that one is an overall winner.
Ultimately the real consideration is what is contained inside the bottles. Certainly the look and feel of the packaging may influence whether consumers buy a particular product but how the juice tastes will determine whether they come back for more.

The success of an expo can be judged in many ways. Location. Exhibitors. Vibe. If those are the factors that an expo can be judged on then it’s fair to say that Madrid had it all.
Once again the Vapouround team were present and as media partners for the event were proud to be associated this great show.
Located at the Madrid Arena the expo itself was spread over a unique pres entation of three floors with all exhibitors showcasing the very best the industry has to offer.
With exhibitors ranging from the small to the established there was a fantastic range of both juices and hardware on offer for both the business community and the public visiting.

the choice of location gave a futuristic feel to the occasion. Based over three circular floors, all of which were viewable wherever you stood.
Chatting to many the attendees the over whelming response tot the expo itself was very positive and many commented on the amount of business and business contacts they had made. Credit for this must go to the event organisers who worked tirelessly in both the build-up to the event and during the event itself.
As the vape industry continues to progress it’s undeniably exciting to be present at expo’s such as this. The list of exhibitors was varied and floor-planned in such a way that was both aesthetically pleasing but also aided an enjoyable visit to those in attendance.
Madrid itself was a fantastic place to host the event with beautiful sites such as the Royal Palace of Madrid and gorgeous
rooftop restaurants allowing people to feel a relaxed but cosmopolitan vibe during their stay.
I’d highly recommend attending any events organised by this highly profes sional team. They were not only metic ulous in their preparation but constantly helpful throughout the event and always available to lend a hand.
Once again an expo can be judged in many ways and in the case of this expo: Location: Excellent in both the terms of the city and the venue.
Exhibitors: A nice mix of everything that is good about the industry with an ex cellent range of products and some very friendly people.
Vibe: Relaxed yet full of productivity.
All in all an excellent time.

Many of our loyal readers may be aware by now that we like to partner up with some of the biggest vape expos across the globe. When we were asked to partner up with a vape expo in the Ukraine we had no idea what to expect, apart from that the fact that it would be COLD!!
We were exited to be invited to partner up with Smile Expo, a prominent chain of expos covering the vaping community in eastern Europe. We touched down in Kiev and were instantly greeted by temperatures of minus five and a blanket of snow, nothing you would not have expected from a winter’s day in Ukraine. Day 1 – We arrived at the expo and found the signing in process to be quick, simple and effective. There were no long queues, and a fully automated system worked well to allow the many vapers to enter the hall in a timely manner. So far so good…
We then entered the main event and, to our surprise, it was very well executed
and very well organised. Top brands were featured such as Diamond Vapor, Simply Vapor, Café Racer and more. A great mix of American, UK, European and local brands were on offer.
One noticeable difference to many of the other shows we have attended was the lack of over the top, excessive stands that made large companies stand out from small. This seemed to be a show that put everyone on virtually a level playing field.
There were no big dogs compared to the little fish, the stands were all of similar stature and everyone seemed to have as much exposure as the next company. The way the stands were laid out played a big part in this too, as people were almost forced to do a circuit of the hall, allowing each stand to get visited if that was the wish of the visitor, with the stage being the focal point of the show.
The show also hosted the World Series of Vaping, a competition in which vapers got to show off their cloud chasing skills
– I was honoured to be asked to be one of the judges for this competition, and I can confirm that the standard was high. Another highlight of the show was when, totally unexpectedly, (to me at least) 5,000 USD was dropped from the ceiling onto the crowd below, a strange but effective marketing tactic adopted by the organisers.
I can honestly say that I really enjoyed this expo, even though I originally had my reservations.
I truly believe that this is one to watch, and make sure you save the date for the next Ukraine expo, as this is definitely a growing market and one that is not to be ignored. I would personally like to thank the organisers for a totally enjoyable experience and I can’t wait for the next one.

I’ve been to a fair few expo’s since I began to work for Vapouround and I’ve enjoyed them all but I can happily report the this expo was, in a very positive way, one of the most unique trips I’ve ever made.
Hosted in an old warehouse contained within the grounds of a brightly painted shopping centre, the location created a cultural vibe that was thoroughly intimate and enjoyable.
The level of attendees was fantastic to see and the exhibitors I spoke to, who came from all over the world, seemed very pleased with the event.
It was clear to see the the event organisers had worked very hard and the addition of tea, coffee, beer and Mexican food lead to an enjoyable atmosphere which both the public and business to business visitors revelled in.
From chatting to both visitors and exhibitors while I was there it was obvious that they felt the event was a success and one that they would like to return.

The combination of the venue itself with it’s low ceiling capturing the vape in a wonderfully atmospheric way alongside the expo DJ contributing to it led to a place where business could be done, fun could be had and vapers could celebrate the wonderful industry in which we all work.
Kiev itself was equally enjoyable though it must be said then when it snows in Kiev it has no middles gears!
I’d like to offer my own personal thanks to the organisers for their dedication to not only their event but also the industry as a whole. It was a genuine pleasure to be part of the Vapouround team that attended the event – this reviewer has already put his name down for any repeat trips.
As the vaping industry faces challenges during these times it’s very reassuring to see that despite everything we have all had to contend with the “powers that be” can’t stop an industry that was founded on the principles of honesty, integrity and originality continues to reach out and push forward and this expo was living proof of that.
In short – a great venue, great exhibitors and a fantastic city to boot which all lead to a truly unique experience.
Once again many congratulations and thanks to the event organisers – I’m looking forward to visiting again soon.

SANTA ANITA PARK
CALIFORNIA
THREE DAYS OF VAPING IN THE SUN
By Patrick Griffin
When I was told that I would be covering the ECC I did a quick online search by way of research on the event. To my surprise, the top search result was for the European Cheerleading Championships but I wasn’t sure how well that would go down as a feature in a vaping magazine.
Next up was an open air event which was to take place at Santa Anita Raceway in Arcadia, California and this was the ECC I had been asked to attend. The Electronic Cigarette Convention was held over three days during the first weekend of December last year.
It was my first ECC experience and for many who attended and exhibited it was the first major vaping event that they had attended outdoors.
Strict vaping laws in California mean that is not allowed to vape indoors so obviously holding an indoor vaping event would be a little problematical.
In fact since June last year there has been a statewide vaping ban throughout California with e-cigarettes having been included in smoke free legislation. This means that vaping is not allowed in workplaces and many public spaces,
including restaurants and bars and it is only allowed where smoking is also permitted.
The Santa Anita venue allowed the three day convention to go ahead and not fall foul of any laws but it was not without its problems.
On day one, the business to business day, the weather proved to be extremely challenging indeed. It was windy, very windy, to the extent that some of the stands were blown down and at one stage I saw promotional material, business cards and leaflets being blown across the park.
Thankfully the winds died down as the day progressed and vendors were able to keep their stands looking the way they wanted.
One surprise for me was that the event did not start until midday but the relatively late start meant that the show was still going strong well into the evening.
During the day we had bright sunlight, clear blue skies and mild temperatures but once the sun set the temperature seemed to drop ten degrees in a heartbeat and suddenly
my thin Vapouround t-shirt was totally inadequate for keeping me warm. Apart from the change in the weather there was a total change in the atmosphere once the sun set.
Now the booths and stands were lit up and this gave a totally different atmosphere to the event. Some stands were dimly lit while others were bright and multicoloured and this really made the individual vendors stand out really well.
After dark it was a much more intimate atmosphere and I found that I was drawn to booths and vendors that I had not seen during the day.
It was interesting that some vendors had clearly given a lot of thought to the afterdark lighting and had spent a lot of time of money getting this just right.
Other vendors took a more basic approach with some using the lights on their smartphones to help illuminate their stands in the evening.
We all know that the vaping community is full of passion and this was evident from everyone I spoke to during the ECC.
I made a point of talking to as many

people as possible during the three days and everyone - without a single exception - was friendly, approachable and loved talking about their products.
It was also clear that vendors were not simply trying to sell juices and hardware without regard to the needs of the consumer, in fact it was quite the opposite.
As I spent time at the various stands it became clear that the vendors were taking time to find out exactly what customers wanted and finding them products or e-liquids that were right for them.
It was also great to see that this was not just simply a parade of one e-liquid supplier after another because at ECC all sectors of the vaping industry were represented.
Juice manufacturers were represented from around the world and it was great to be able to sample a lot of juices which were really out of the ordinary.
As the vaping industry continues to evolve, a lot of thought is now going into getting flavours right and in selling a narrow range of really excellent e-liquids rather than a large range of mediocre lines.
Regulation will have played a large part in this change because if you are going to have to pay to have each product
tested you will only want to put your best products through.
Exotic flavours from around the world are now making their way into e-liquids and it is always exciting for me to come across new and exciting flavours. Thankfully there was the opportunity to do this at the ECC.
But as I have already pointed out, this was not just a show about juices. There were manufacturers of mods, tanks and all kinds of accessories represented too and a visit to ECC allowed one to get feeling for the diversity of the modern vape industry.
Customisation is becoming more
CALIFORNIA
and more important to a lot of vapers and there were many businesses represented where unique and eyecatching personalisation for hardware were their speciality.
Overall this was a really good event. It was a little smaller than previous ECC expos but it was well-organised, at a good venue and with a lot of very high quality vendors in attendance.
I spoke to a lot of vendors who said they had sold out of their stock and while some said the business to business day was quieter than they would have hoped, they nevertheless made some good contacts.
There is no doubt that the vaping industry has undergone a lot of change in a very short time and there is undoubtedly a lot more change to come. The diversity on show at the ECC is proof that we have a very healthy industry with a lot of highly committed individuals who are determined to succeed.
Events like this are also a great way for the vaping public and current smokers who want to quit to discover what vaping is all about.
We may not have had the European cheerleaders at Santa Anita Raceway but, to be honest, we really didn’t need them.
IT WAS ALSO GREAT TO SEE THAT THIS WAS NOT JUST SIMPLY A PARADE OF ONE E-LIQUID SUPPLIER AFTER ANOTHER BECAUSE AT ECC ALL SECTORS OF THE VAPING INDUSTRY WERE REPRESENTED.

The 4th Vapexpo Moscow December 2016 was a revelation to this weathered vape expo ‘show-goer’. Since September 2016 I have visited shows at Warsaw, Dortmund, Birmingham NEC, Kiev, and Madrid – each show has been different to the others, and Moscow had some fantastic elements - which included live singers, huge stage events hosted by DJ Mad Limp and MC Max Larionov, BMX trick shows and all the familiar ‘trick vaping’ shows. Let’s make one thing clear; Moscow itself is huge – a population approaching 13 million, six of the seven tallest buildings in Europe are there and the city never seems to rest, which is just as well because the noise and music from the different stands during the show was at times deafening. Eminem seemed to be the popular choice of the different Russian exhibitors, often at the same time and all trying to be the loudest! I honestly wouldn’t like to judge the attendance figures, but some of the organisers reported unconfirmed numbers approaching 15,000 visitors to the 8,300 square metre, two day show. The halls were very swiftly fogged up
with vape, to such an extent that it was sometimes difficult to navigate around the myriad of exhibitors, but everyone attending was in good spirits – even though some (myself and my fellow attendee Sheila included) had been forced to wait outside for over two hours with the thermometer reading a chilly minus 5 just to get past the registration desk.
This was a very well attended show and included some very big industry names - it was certainly worth the effort of obtaining the visa and travel permits for my all too brief stay at Holiday Inn Suschevsky.
The electronic cigarette market in Russia is behind the UK and USA as far as developments and user numbers are concerned, but it’s rising fast, and a recent survey by ‘Sputnik news’ has revealed that 51% of Russian men smoke cigarettes every day (in the UK it’s 20% of the male population that are regular smokers) so with the Russian population approaching 150 million, it is evident there is an enormous potential e-cigarette customer base – room enough for the rest of the world to gain a substantial share in this $6 billion global market.
The Russian juices I sampled were very comparable to anything else you may have tried, but many of the local producers have nothing that is anywhere near TPD compliant – are they simply being lackadaisical or do they know something that we don’t?
It will be interesting see the developments within the Russian e-cigarette industry over the coming months and I hope to see you all again in June at the 5th Moscow Vapexpo, but please, make it a three day show with day one as a business to business day.

VAPE
HQ MANSFIELD | 9TH DECEMBER 2016
Vape HQ initially started out as a web based vaping business. It wasn’t until October 2013 when Vape HQ opened their first retail store to physically carry out their ethos in person – “We want to get people off smoking and take vaping seriously,” says Raphael Philippou, one of the directors at Vape HQ.
Vapouround arrived to the smell of food cooking away on the BBQ and hot drinks being served by Vape HQ staff. The day was packed out with activities from food and drink, a mannequin challenge, a cloud competition, and Vape HQ had the right vibe going for everyone.
After the vapers had chowed down their food, people were ready to check out the bus to look around and sample juices on offer on the VapeDex e-liquid tasting bar which proved to be popular among the vapers.
The Vapouround bus tours are a great way of showcasing new products to vapers but also to show smokers that there is an alternative to cigarettes which
may finally get them to kick the habit. There were a number of current smokers at this event and we challenged them to hand over their existing packets of cigarettes in exchange for a free starter kit.
We were handing out E Generation’s Pen Type Electronic Cigarette in return for a packet of cigarettes to get smokers to kick the unhealthy habit of smoking and introduce them to vaping.
This worked well, with two people handing over their cigarettes to get their free vaporizer.
Raphael commented on this idea and said,
This same offer will be available to smokers at other bus tour destinations, subject to availability of starter kits while stocks last.
Greg Smith, Social Media Manager at Vape HQ, agreed that this concept is a great way to get people off smoking and show them there is a healthier alternative to smoking as he commented,
After the event, he even saw some of the smokers from Mansfield visiting the store showing genuine interest in vaping as he mentioned, “People are starting to get into it and taking it on board and taking vaping more seriously.”
It will be an amazing accomplishment to see how many people convert to vaping from smoking and to potentially add years on to their lives. This is what we at Vapouround love about the bus. It helps introduce smokers to vaping and show them that they do, in fact, have the potential to quit smoking with the right equipment.
In addition to this, Vape HQ team inside the store held a cloud chasing competition that proved to be a success
“More people decide to quit towards the end of the year so they can enter the New Year with their resolutions already being completed.”
“The bus itself is a great idea but the idea of swapping fags for an e-cigarette is fantastic. It gets them off smoking and on board with vaping.”

with the enthusiastic vapers competing for new mods, e-liquids, a coil master kit and other vape-themed goodies. After the winners had claimed their prizes, everyone participated in a mannequin challenge of people inside the Vape HQ store and on the Vapouround bus. This was entertaining for everyone involved. Not only were Vapouround handing out goodies on the bus, but Vape Dinner Lady were also present at the event. Raphael commented,
“We decided to make a whole day out of it to entice more people. Everyone really enjoyed the bus, it was so different.”
Both Vapers and smokers admired the big bus attraction as they knew it was attending Vape HQ in Mansfield. Both Raphael and Greg commented that they saw regular faces as well as new ones just to check out the bus,
“They were surprised to see it and some of our regular clients were aware the bus was coming so they were eager to get on the bus.”
There was a great atmosphere at this event and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Well done to Vape HQ for all the hard work behind the scenes and for making Vapouround feel so welcome. Keep an eye on the Vapouround Bus website for news of more upcoming visits and tours.

VAPE HQ, SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD | 16TH DECEMBER 2016
The Vapouround Bus decided to make another visit to Vape HQ in Sutton-in-Ashfield for the second time in a month. With just a week before Christmas, we decided to visit Vape HQ during one of the busiest times of the year.
Vape HQ were an online vape store at first but wanted to meet customers’ needs which is why they launched their very first retail store in late 2013. Their mission from the outset was to, “Get people off smoking and take vaping seriously,” says Raphael Philippou, one of the directors at Vape HQ.
The bus definitely attracted more customers to the store as Raphael commented, “People were coming into the store to see what was going on after seeing the bus. We went through the whole vaping procedure with them making sure they have a good vaping experience.
“We wanted to show them it’s not rocket science and with the right set-up they can have a higher probability of kicking the smoking habit.”
Vapouround arrived to see the building
was converted into a petrol station which was fantastic. It was the same friendly atmosphere as the Festive Vape Meet at their Mansfield store the previous week. Interestingly, some of the public that came to the Mansfield Festive Vape Meet followed us to the Sutton-inAshfield event which was great as we got to see some familiar faces.
Raphael, too, was pleased to see regular clients as well as different faces who weren’t aware of vaping before they even visited the store as he mentioned,
at this event and we challenged them to hand over their existing packets of cigarettes in exchange for a free starter kit. We were handing out E-Generation’s Pen Type Electronic Cigarette in return for a packet of cigarettes to get smokers to kick the unhealthy habit of smoking and introduce them to a less harmful alternative.
It was a massive success at Suttonin-Ashfield where we had ten smokers handing in their cigarettes to get their starter kits and get started on vaping. These smokers were dedicated to quit smoking and were very excited to switch over to vaping.
Raphael thought the Vapouround Bus attracted more customers and it brought more attention to Vape HQ in Sutton-inAshfield as well as in Mansfield.
The Vapouround bus tours are a great way of showcasing new products to vapers but also to show smokers that there is an alternative to cigarettes which may finally get them to kick the habit. There were a number of current smokers
Greg Smith, Social Media Manager at Vape HQ, commented that, “The Vapouround Bus was a huge success for our store and for Vapouround. It’s not something you bring every day that’s specifically for vaping.
“There were many regular faces and new ones. The new ones stuck around once they saw the bus and the store.”
134 ISSUE 09 VAPOUROUND MAGAZINE EVENTS
“The bus encourages people to put away their cigarettes, helps people to kick the bad habit and get them on board with vaping. The whole day was a huge success.”
Also, regular Vape HQ customers that were in store to pick up their e-liquid’s and coils showed interest in the bus after purchasing their products.
Raphael mentioned that since the visit,
“People are starting to get into it and taking it on board and taking vaping more seriously.”
Vape HQ wanted to make a whole day out of it so they decided to hold a cloud and trick competition in store. Vapouround were lucky enough to be the judges of the competition.
They were 5 contestants competing for the chance to win a coil master set for the best vapour cloud and another fantastic prize for the best vapour trick. All contestants were absolutely fantastic with producing clouds but there could only be one winner and the winner was
very happy with the coil master kit he received.Vape HQ also decided to hold a mannequin challenge which has become the latest trend around the globe. There was a great atmosphere at this event and everyone really enjoyed themselves. THE VAPOUROUND BUS RETURNS FOR A SECOND VISIT
TO DEL BOYS VAPE STORE
Just a week before Christmas, the Vapouround Bus returned to Del Boys vape store in Derbyshire for yet another visit. After our first visit in October went down so well, we decided to bring the bus back for a special event.
Del Boys owner Jane Johnson was overwhelmed with how many turned up to see the bus and learn more about vaping.
Jane enjoys raising money for charity and on the day of our visit she was fundraising for Brain Tumour Research who focus on finding a cure for brain tumours.
One of Jane’s close friends has been diagnosed with a brain tumour so she decided to raise money to support the charity. Jane wanted to do anything possible to raise awareness and to bring in as much money possible for the research into brain tumours.
She had been selling raffle tickets prior to the event with a wide variety of great prizes up for grabs donated by very generous companies. There were 19 prizes in total including e-liquids, mods and even a hair cut from the hairdresser’s next door to Del Boys.
Jane raised Ј285 from the raffle by the end of the day but it wasn’t until the evening when Jane received a call from e-liquid company Riot Squad that she had more good news.
Riot Squad and Del Boys recently met in October at The Vaper Expo in Birmingham, UK and the Riot Squad team had agreed to donate e-liquids and merchandise to the raffle.
Then as an extra gesture of goodwill they decided to match the money raised by the event so that the total raised for the charity was Ј570.
Jane was completely surprised and ecstatic when they called her to donate money as she commented, “I was so pleased with their support and I couldn’t have raised the money for Brain Tumour Research charity without the support of Vapouround’s big bus.”
We also talked to Riot Squad’s Sales Manager, Matt Crann, who commented, “Here at Riot Squad we never like to do
anything by halves so it was an obvious decision by us, when asked to donate raffle Riot Squad products that we wanted to go that extra mile.”
He added:
“It was a privilege to be able to make the match donation as a gesture of good will. This is the first of many more charitable causes Riot Squad will be supporting and we will be launching our own charity challenge in 2017.”
As it was a Christmas visit, we wanted to take part in the giving process so our bus served warm mulled wine and mince pies. We also dressed one of Vapouround’s staff member as the ‘vaping’ Santa for the day to get into the festive spirit!
Vapouround’s Bus Tour to Del Boys was yet another brilliant experience for everyone.
Keep an eye on the Vapouround Bus website for news of more upcoming visits and tours.

NEW LOOK VAPOUROUND BUS
PROVED HUGE SUCCESS AT VAPE & VOLTS VISIT
Vapouround’s fantastic doubledecker bus has recently been re-designed with a brand spanking new look and what better way to show off our bus than visit Vape & Volts based in Camden, London.
Vape & Volts sells a range of vaping equipment from starter kits to entry level box mods, mechanical mods and some
of the best-selling premium e-liquids from around the globe.
This was the first time Vapouround bus visited London so we were really excited for the visit. The day started off with a relaxing atmosphere but soon picked up with an amazing vibe that carried on throughout the day until the end. With a new look of the bus comes a new line of e-liquids on the Vape Dex - ranging from Premium Liquid Labs to Bomb Sauce’s most raved about e-liquids - ‘Alien Piss’ which was proven to be a favourite along with our own line of Vapouround e-juices – ‘Toffaccino’ and ‘Berry Ice’ which a lot of people really enjoyed vaping.
“The Vapouround bus is brilliant. There is such a fun environment on the bus and the Vapouround team are so friendly and chatty.”
The public’s reaction to the new design of the bus was phenomenal. One vaper commented: “It’s a pretty cool concept, it’s just wow,” while another said “This is awesome, the juices, the advertisements, it’s mental.”
Jenna Convery, operations manager at Vape & Volts, was very excited when she saw the bus. She said:

Many visitors were surprised when they saw our big colourful bus. Jenna said: “A lot of people who came in store loved the atmosphere and the new design of the bus. The bus is really unique and bought a lot of attention to our store.”
The friendly team at Vape & Volts made a whole day out of the visit and held e-liquid competitions in store. Jenna said: “There were quite a few winners for our e-liquid competition where vapers had to guess the e-liquid to get a free juice. Everyone loved it.”
There were some regular faces as well as news ones who were excited to see the bus. Jenna said: “Everyone had a whole load of interest and we even had some new faces come in on the day. Our regular customers were genuinely really excited.”
The team at Vape & Volts had ensured that everyone know about the Vapouround bus. Jenna said: “A few days before the visit, some of us were handing out leaflets to let people know about the big day. We even had one of our colleagues walk up and down the street with a big sign post explaining the
bus was visiting the store.”
Once again the E-generation starter kits proved to be very popular indeed. Jorgie Shaw, Vapouround’s bus co-ordinator, said that a lot of smokers said they were interested in vaping.
She said: “A mother and daughter were smoking outside the store and they became intrigued when they noticed the bus. After I told them what the bus is all about they were eager to hop on board and hand in their cigarettes for the starter kit.”
Jenna added:
healthier lifestyle by vaping. With the Vapouround bus being at the store, it helps to carry out this ethos by drawing more attention to Vape & Volts.”
Jorgie said: “We had around 20 people trade their cigarettes for the starter kits and by the end of the day, our bus shelves were inundated with cigarette boxes.”

Genesis V2
Genesis V2 More Than Meets the Eye
We’ve seen some interesting evolution of eGo style devices since mid-2015, with AIO(all-in-one) design being the top influencer. The average size of this kind of device is generally more imposing than old school eGos. However, the Genesis V2 is quite eye-catching with its highly compact AIO design. I’ve spent a few days with a black R&D sample and was intrigued by its performance despite its low-profile look.
HANDS-ON AND PERFORMANCE
The initial hands-on is quite pleasant with its curved cuboid body. It feels smooth and its rubberized coating enhances the ergonomic mod.
The throat hit and flavor delivered by the Genesis V2 is fantastic from mouth to lung inhale.
Having tried a couple of 70/30 and 50/50 mix e-liquids with it, I’d say this device is great for its flavour reproduction and vapour. The airflow is adjustable by turning the plastic mouth piece on top so the air intake is somewhat dragging when inhaling even when it is at maximum.
Battery life is a plus in this compact eGo AIO. With a capacity of 1100mAh, a full charge can last about half a day for a medium consumer like me. The Genesis V2 has auto power-off and sleep functions that extend battery life considerably.
Charging usually takes a little over 45 minutes with a charging current of 1A at 5 volts.
The Genesis V2 requires some caution to clean because the tank is integrated with the battery. I recommend putting water in the tank and shake it for a few minutes to remove residual e-liquid.
THE DESIGN
Aesthetics-wise the Genesis V2 seems rather modest to my personal taste. The tanks viewing window bizarrely has a “zigzag” shape which doesn’t fit with its cuboid body. The fire button looks like a shield with an inverted triangle in the center. The triangle has a blue LED that glows whenever fired.
On top of the cuboid body is a stainless steel cap which connects the airflow and the mouth piece. The metal cap is not removable so to refill you’ll have to remove the mouth piece and coil to access the tank.
VERDICT
The Genesis V2 is a promising project as a R&D sample. I’m impressed with the Genesis V2’s performance given its size. There are some minor negative points such as the aesthetics and the narrow airflow. However, this compact eGo AIO can be a good choice for those looking for a balanced device in portability and performance.

The Genesis V2 will be available in the UK in May.
Tesla Touch 150W TC
Tesla Touch 150W TC
Specs:
Thread 510 spring loaded
Output mode ti/ ni200/ ss/ tcr/vw mode
Output wattage 7-150w (in 1.0w increments)
0.9v 1400mAh battery
Temp range 200-600 f
Resistance range 0.1-3.0 for vw
0.05-1.0 for ti/ni200/ss316/tcr mode
0.15Ω - 5Ω VW, 0.1Ω - 1Ω TC
The Touch 150W TC is the first touch device from Teslacigs. There is only one button on the device, the fire button and everything else is controlled from a 2.4 inch IPS screen with standard 240*320 resolution. We are not talking smartphone quality here, but it is more than sufficient for accessing and controlling the functions of this device.
I am not a big fan touch screen as you have probably seen with my other reviews as they can be fiddly and very over the top. However this one is different and is very easy to use.
Simply swipe to unlock the screen and from the main menu important features such as temperature and wattage adjustment can be found.
The function settings menu allows you to make a series of custom settings such as the coil material (Kanthal/Ni200/Ti/ SS316) and even the speed of the device - soft, standard or powerful modes.
My favourite feature was the custom wallpaper option. Either chose from the four different backgrounds which come with the device or add personalised designs of your own.
I found this feature very useful when using the device to test juices at the vape shop. I just have a picture of the juice which is being vaped displayed on the screen so that I instantly know what juice is in which machine.
This is very useful if you have several juices for customers to sample as it is very simple to quickly find the right mod without having to remember where you put it down.
The screen will automatically lock itself when it has not been used but you can still vape while the screen is locked. To make setting changes then just swipe the screen and it is instantly unlocked and ready. The mod itself takes too 18650 batteries and it displays the battery life just as you might find on your
smartphone, with a battery symbol on the upper right of the screen and the percentage power remaining next to it. Other information instantly at hand from the screen includes the wattage, temperature, resistance and voltage selected.
A third settings menu will let you select the screen sleep time, its brightness, wallpaper, language (which is either Chinese of English) and the software update function when the device is connected to a PC.
Please note that the USB cable supplied is for updates and adding custom wallpapers only and is not for charging the batteries.
This mod feels great in your hand and comes in three colours (blue, black and stainless steel) all in a matt zinc alloy.
I will give this mod a well deserved 5/5

Input voltage range: 6.6V - 8.4V
Min atomizer resistance: 0.1ohm

Reverse battery protection Short circuit protection
My first impression was that this is a simple mechanical mod, but as I looked deeper I realised that this is far from being just a simple mec mod. For a start, it has lots of features that you would simply overlook if you had just seen this in the shop window or in a cabinet.
It has an in-built chip which protects you from overheating, reverse connection protection, low voltage, short circuiting, over current and over puffing. It shows you what you have basically done wrong by a way of a series of blue flashing LEDs on the side of the mod. For instance when the device has short circuited it will flash five times then go into standby mode, protecting you quickly and simply.
When users fire the Tesla Invader III, the blue light will activate. Errors such as low battery voltage or reaching the puff cutoff
will also make the blue light flash. The device itself takes two 18650 batteries and with a variable voltage knob on the side, it can go from 3.6v all the way to 6.6v giving you a great range, depending on your vaping style.
Voltage is actually adjusted using a potentiometer control knob which can be rotated from I to V to choose the required voltage.
The 510 connector will read anywhere from 0.1 ohms. This is a really responsive mod and as soon as you press that button, it delivers straight away with no ramp up time - just an instant hit.
Using the advanced Tesla proprietary chipset, users can generate power up to 240 watts of power with this device - and can exceed 240 watts when using higher power batteries.
I really like the look of this mod which
is small, simple and compact. There are also a few collars to choose from in the zinc alloy material which is also scratch resistant.
It is suitable for all atomizers, from subohm tanks that require high wattage to atomizers that focus more on flavor, it will work perfectly well.
The device’s magnetic battery cover makes it easy to swap out batteries when they need recharging and is also strong enough to prevent the cover from coming off unintentionally.
The blue, black and silver all look great with any kind of atomiser on top and, along with the style, and features combined with a weight of only 198g, this truly is an awesome mod and I give it a 5/5.

Battery: Requires 1 x 18650 Battery (Not Included) Temperature Range: 100-300℃/200-600℉
Voltage adjust: 8V Resistance Range: 0.1-3.5ohm for VW mode
The AIO 70w starter kit from Tesla is a beautifully crafted all-in-one mod kit that pushes the designs of the every day mod. This creative little mod has everything a starter vaper needs with the upgradability needs of an experienced vaper.
At first, even for an experienced vaper the starter kit can be tricky more specifically with the one side serrated coils that are supplied with it. If the coils are placed in the wrong way misfiring occurs and the battery is drained rapidly with no power heating the coil. An instructions manual is definitely needed for anyone using this.
The AIO has a very sleek sporty compact design, like the Lotus Elise of the vaping world. The device is controlled by a large fire button on the top near the mouth piece and two small control buttons hidden on the bottom of the device. The
mod features an easy fill, built-in tank that can feature a variety of coils. This has a smart external fill line to guide users when adding e-liquid.
This small mod runs on a single battery which is surprising, as it is also very powerful.
At around 40w, this mod gives out a moderate plume of vape. This is ideal for discrete vaping and light flavour tasting. When ramped up to a max wattage of 70w the vape production is very impressive. The flavour coming from the device was flavoursome and beautiful.
The little device does have a down side though; all be it small. When inhaling the vape makes a loud suction noise as the air is filtered through the airflow system. This is only a negative if that sort of thing bothers you.
One of the brilliant things about the AIO 70w is for a whole month of carrying this
around on a daily basis, it didn’t leak at all. Even when filling there is no leakage as the mod features a 4.5ml e-liquid capacity with a wide, leak resistant top fill cup design for easy refills. This makes those rushed mornings a little easier.
As a whole, this brilliant little mod is a handy (literally hand-sized) side kick for any vaper. This is a luxurious treat for any starter vaper, especially those making the change from cigarettes as the size is no bigger than a cigarette packet and it gives a good throat hit when vaping nicotine.
I would recommend this mod to all vapers and it would be a stylish addition to any vape collection.

Blood Sukka
This e-liquid has a strong, sweet berry smell that fills the nasal cavity. The red berry scent has an undertone of a rich aniseed that really gives the e-liquid a kick.
When inhaling this fruity e-liquid, the first taste to emerge is a sweet red cherry taste mixed with other berries. This fruity cocktail is a beautiful blend and really does make the taste buds dance.
When exhaling, the berry blend is overcome by a strong aniseed that really takes over the fruitiness and takes the flavour in a bitter direction. On top of this bitterness a slight cool menthol creeps in and finishes the flavour with a cold ending.
This is really like being bitten by a vampire. The flavour is really nice, the only thing I found is it is aniseedy which is very powerful. This would undoubtedly be nice for aniseed lovers, it really complements the berry flavours with a harsh kick enough to wake you up. I really enjoyed this vape its fun and delicious especially for a good throat hit 5/5
two at 60/40 vg/pg and two at 70/30 vg/ pg. I first totalled up enough nicotine to make four 3mg 25ml bottles. I used 10% and 20% concentrate for each vg/pg type and the concentrate blended beautifully. When vaping, I found that the 70/30 vg/pg worked best for flavour as it toned down the aniseed with a 10% concentrate, yet the cherries and berries flavour was still strong.
Blood Sukka Concentrate
The Blood Sukka concentrate has the same smell as the e-liquid but it is a lot stronger, as expected. I made four blends of this concentrate -
I really loved the concentrate of this flavour because it is so versatile. The flavour is even better with a toned down aniseed. The e-liquid variations seemed to adapt well from tank to dripper. This is a top notch concentrate. 5/5
Radical Vapes
The Radical Vapes e-liquid features the typical 30ml glass bottle with pipette lid, the branding of which the bottle arrived is rather ‘trippy’ featuring bright colours and the RV logo.
The Big Twist
Initially the smell of this Radical Vapes e-liquid has a strong sweet tropical scent too it, subtle juicy melon with citrus overtones that make the mouth water. Upon inhale I was greeted with a soft bitter lime taste with a sweet kick that causes a shock as it was not what I was expecting after initially smelling the juice. After this a twist of sweet lemon creeps in and the flavour really becomes pleasant.
When exhaled, the two citrusy flavours
combine and the melon taste previously smelt is greeted. This creates a delicious tropical refreshing flavour. The flavour resembles that of the yellow and green twister ice lollies from the local ice cream man.
After a while the e-liquid dons a similar taste to a lemon sweet celery. This is unusual but still very refreshing. A pleasant vape overall, very refreshing and as sweet as the twister lollies themselves. 5/5
Strawberry meds
This smells incredible, the scent resembles opening a fresh pack of strawberry laces. Strong sweet strawberry candy.
When first inhaled, the strong strawberry really comes through, its rather basic really and not anything unusual.
Through an RDA the strawberry tones are accentuated but still nothing other than strawberry. The strawberry flavour is one of the best as it really tastes like strawberry laces.
On exhale the strawberry fades away and it pretty much loses all taste. This is quite disappointing really as I was
expecting some flavour to kick in on the exhale.
This causes problems for me as it is a tasty strawberry e-liquid perfect for people looking for a subtle smooth vape but the lack of aftertaste was such a disappointment. 3/5

Kind Juice
The Kind Juice series comes in the usual healthy green, well-branded 15ml glass bottles. The branding has the characteristics of a mystical oriental health potion. The bottle features a small glass pipette lid.
Once in a Blue Moon
This e-liquid is very fragrant and smells similar to those little purple Parma Violets sweets. This is very intriguing and summons the kid within me. When first inhaling, this e-liquid only has
a subtle sweet taste and it is almost too hard to grasp an exact flavour. There is a fruity twist of a nice berry juice.
When exhaling, the blueberry comes through with a strong vengeance. It becomes really nice and the powdery taste of the Parma violets actually comes through. This worked better through an RDA tank which boosts the berry flavour. As a whole, the e-liquid is pretty nice but the lack of flavour on the inhale really drops a mark, but as a whole it is pretty good. 3/5
5 O’Clock Somewhere
This has a delightful smell of cola with a twist of spice. When inhaling the e-liquid I was instantly blessed with sweet, warm spice flavours similar to that of a spiced rum but with no alcohol taste. As the flavour develops it blends with a
special sweet honey dew aftertaste to complement the whole vaping experience of this flavour.
The vape as a whole has great vapeability and versatility. The flavour is very fresh and sweet and is just perfect for the sweet tooth and the fruit lovers. 4/5
sweet taste of vintage cola. The taste doesn’t develop into a fizzy aftertaste as other cola flavours have. Instead the warm spice fades away and the refreshing cola flavour proceeds and leaves a nice light aftertaste. This is a pleasant e-liquid but you may find that this is something of an acquired taste because the flavour is rather unique. 4/5
Simply Vapour
The Simply Vapour range is contained in large 60ml glass bottles with a a black pipette cap for ease of use. The e-liquids I am reviewing are Mad Melon, Pom Berry Mist and the popular Orange dream.
Mad Melon
The smell of this e-liquid is that of a fresh fruit section of a supermarket. The liquid has a strong smell of sweet honey dew melon and the fragrance of this juice is enough to make my mouth water. When first inhaling, the e-liquid has a familiar sweet tone but there is nothing that could be pinpointed - just a pleasant sweet taste. When inhaled through an RDA the sharp watermelon taste is instant.
This e-liquid is very smooth and easy on the vape and lungs. The blend of this is a high VG and this seems easier on my various mods and tanks, masterfully crafted!
When exhaled this is when the watermelon kicks in but it also has a
Orange Dream
This e-liquid has a very strong orange smell, like fresh pressed oranges its very potent and with be enough to entice any orange lovers.
As I inhaled this e-liquid I received a soft smooth orange taste mixed with a creamy vanilla taste. This was very surprising because of the strength of the orange smell.
When exhaling the stronger taste of the orange come through with a vengeance but ‘oh my’ it is pleasant. Still laced with a smooth vanilla that really tones down the citrus tones of the orange. Very enjoyable from start to finish.
I was very surprised by this vape as on first impression I wasn’t fond of the smell but this is delicious. Cloud production and flavour see this vape to be a very strong tasty alternative for all fruity vape lovers.
Very tasty and very versatile. 4/5
Pom Berry Mist
This has the most intriguing scent to it of all of the vapes that I have came across to date and this has caught me off guard with excitement. The smell has notes of citrus mixed with sweet berries, it smells slightly fizzy but very fruity.
Upon inhaling a small amount spat into my mouth, annoying right? Wrong! It tasted so delicious and sweet. The first tastes I got was an mixture of berries, mainly raspberry this is delightful on first impressions.
When exhaling the zesty citrus tones came through and collided with the berries making a sweet soft fruit cocktail. The closest thing I can relate this flavour too is love heart sweets but less powder and more mouth watering fruity flavour. This is a great vape and very soothing on the taste buds too. 5/5

Cone Flakes - 3mg
Cone Flakes really wowed me. It has a prominent strawberry smell but with the faint smell of a crispy waffle style ice cream cone drifting around in the mix too. The taste is like eating an ice cream from the bottom up. Upon inhaling there is a distinctive taste of the cone, sweet and crispy, while on the exhale the strawberry ice cream flavour comes through transitioning from the cone flavour beautifully. The aftertaste you’re left with is a slightly sweeter strawberry flavour than you get from exhaling, almost like the sticky strawberry sauce you get from ice cream vans at the beach. The throat hit is noticeable but not unpleasant. This is a great juice and I doubt I’ll find anything else this nice any time soon. 5/5
Punch’d Blue-Razz – 3mg
I was hard pressed to notice a smell from this and while there is a very faint whiff of blue raspberry, it took a minute for me to notice it. The taste though is divine, such a beautiful blue raspberry flavour and nowI’ve tasted it I don’t want to put it down. Punch’d Blue-Razz has a nice sweetnessto it but not a sickly sweetness. No throat hit either so it goes down so smooth, Ireally can’t fault any of these juices from The Drip Co. They are simply sublime. 4/5
Coffee Shop – Caramel Cone - 3mg
The first scent that hits you is a waffle cone sort of smell, very sweet, but then you get the beautiful smell of caramel coming through and this really is a lovely combination of smells. While inhaling you get the taste of the crunchy waffle cone at first with the caramel slowly coming through, then while exhaling the caramel flavour gets stronger. The aftertaste it

This e-liquid arrives in a top seal coffee pouch design covered in big bold graphics featuring the words PIE and a image of a sweet pie-like dessert. The bottle is a 60ml plastic squeezy bottle of 3mg juice with a screw cap and a twist-to-open squirt cap. This juice smells like a succulent mixture of a finely baked pastry and the sweetest imported cereal. It has such an appealing creamy undertone with no buttery or greasy aromas, which are unique for dessert type vapes.
When inhaled the sweet flavour of rainbow drops fill the mouth, the little sweet, crispy rice snacks from the depths of my childhood mixed with a soft creamy vanilla taste. This has me saying ‘wow’ because it is that good. I’m usually not a dessert vape fan but this has me gasping for more.
When exhaled the sweet vanilla flavours heighten and fill the mouth with a sugary after taste that lasts until you can’t resist another hit. This is a special sweet treat of a vape and I’m very impressed. 5/5
Pineapple Cake Pop - 3mg (NEW)
This e-liquid comes in a well-presented box containing a 60ml squirty bottle of 3mg juice and an extra twist-to-open squirt cap.
Surprisingly, this e-liquid has a very subtle scent. A pineapple comes through strongest then a slight hint of a soft sponge cake. I am definitely intrigued to
how it tastes now that the smell doesn’t give too much away.
When inhaling, this e-liquid took me by surprise. It begins with a soft cake flavour with a warm pineapple taste that teases the tongue. Suddenly a rush of exotic pineapple attacks the taste budsthis has a real zap to it.
When exhaling, the flavour transforms into a softer pineapple flavour and then eventually back to a sweet cake. This e-liquid is quite a rollercoaster of two flavours switching between them throughout.
I would definitely advise people who love pineapple, or people who want a fun new vape to try this e-liquid. 4/5
O.G Sticky Buns (NEW)
This e-liquid comes in a well-presented box containing a 60ml squirty bottle of 3mg juice and an extra twist-to-open squirt cap.
It has the essence of soft orange cream with a dairy undertone mixed with a hint of cake.
On the inhale, first I received a freshly baked glazed bun flavour similar to cinna-buns but without the cinnamon. This bakery flavour then develops with a short but escalating flavour of orange zest. This mainly attracts a tingly taste around the tongue.
On the exhale the orangey overtones develop and become softer and creamier. The flavours then all develop into one solid flavour of a orange drizzled cake.
It is a pleasant vape but could be a bit sweeter on the dessert side of it. It’s a nice mixture and if you aren’t too keen on orange or dessert vapes then this is a vape you could deal with. 3/5

This e-liquid range comes in pocket sized 10 ml squeeze bottles donning the Thor Juice blue colour. The bottles have a thin drip cap on for ease of refilling. The plastic is rather firm so requires a bit of force for the last drops of liquid.
Dragon Blood
This e-liquid smells very fruity like sweet cranberries with a hint of raspberries. This has the smell of a tasty detox drink and I am keen to try this.
On first inhale the taste was a shock; I expected it to be more flavoursome as it has such a strong scent. As I took a second hit instantly a sweet, unique berry flavour rushed to my taste buds. The e-liquid has a overtone of cranberries mainly. It is very nice. When exhaled the cranberry becomes
more subtle and other sweet tastes such as a mixture of cherries and strawberries make an appearance.
I am over the moon with this e-liquid. It is understandable why this juice is so highly rated.
It is fresh, flavoursome and one of a kind
Flamingo
Sweetshop strawberry laces. That’s exactly what Flamingo has the fragrance of. This juice smells divine and I’m hoping it taste this good too.
The juice tastes different to the sweet smell, although it is actually very similar. At first you receive the strawberry then it gains a slight peachy after tone and that is it from the start of the inhale to the exhale.
When exhaled, the flavour escalates and an interesting creamy coconut undertone smoothes off the finishing flavour. This delightful taste lingers for a moment leaving you ready for another hit.
Overall, this is a very interesting and pleasant vape, a unique all day vape for

This e-liquid smells like a sweet strawberry ice cream. The strawberry is the stronger tone and then there is a soft creamy undertone to finish off the smell. On inhalation the flavour of soft cream fills the mouth. It is soft and sweet but
very flavoursome. This is like digging into fresh strawberries and cream.
On exhale there are nice vanilla undertones that complement the creaminess of the taste. This juice is very dessert oriented and perfect for the people with a keen sweet tooth. This e-liquid stood the test of time and is vape-able for days. As far as dessert flavoured e-liquids go, this is perfect and not sickly at all.
I would definitely recommend this! 5/5
Pegasus
This e-liquid has a vanilla, biscuit scent with a creamy undertone. This smells mouth watering.
When first vaped the only taste I got was sugary vanilla. Then I went for a second hit. Upon inhaling there is a long lasting sugary pastry flavour, like a soft sponge or butter pudding.
Then this pastry flavour develops with a creamy vanilla flavour, this has the taste of custard that really complements its predecessor.
As a whole, the vape tastes like an authentic British pudding with custard. It is a pleasant vape but be wary that it is rather sweet so can be a bit too much after a while.
Perfect for the dessert lovers and sweet toothed enthusiasts! 4/5

instantly a sweet, unique berry flavour rushed to my taste buds. The e-liquid has a overtone of cranberries mainly. It is very nice.
All Psycho Bunny juices received are 3mg, 80VG/20PG and came in 10ml child-proof, TPD compliant PET bottles.
The bottles themselves are plastic featuring a peel and reveal label with a background colour scheme bunny with claws and an evil cheshire cat grin, standing beside a puddle of blood and meat cleaver with Psycho Bunny written in blood behind. The juice name is scrawled across the top with a scruffy font.
Serial - This smells incredible, It has a sweet strong smell of sugary charms cereal with a lemony hint.
When inhaled I was struck instantly with a sweet hoop cereal taste. It is really nice and literally tastes like I am eating a big bowl of colourful O’s. The flavour then escalates with a fruity twist that has a sweet tingle to it.
When exhaled, the cereal flavour blends perfectly with a hint of fruit and creates a delightful final impression. It is perfect for that sweet craving but is very moreish. This is one for the cereal lovers as it is not too overpowering just deadly delicious. 4/5
Yellow Mirage – If you like your citrus you will love this. This sweet juice has a golden hue and quite right it’s pure gold. A sweet lemony fragrance mixed with a crumble base and a fluffy meringue after tone. When inhaled the gooey lemon fills the mouth with pure joy, this is my kind of vape. The lemon has a sweet tangy taste mimicking the finest lemon curd.
When exhaling a very soft but sugary biscuit tone comes through with a fluffy heap of meringue, that soothes the citrus and leaves a slightly creamy taste. This vape has a lot to say for itself and will stun any vaper that blesses their tank with this juice. Sweet and zesty. 4/5
Well baked – This juice has a soft unusual scent. It has a cake-like undertone infused with a sweet vanilla extract and a small spread of cherry jam. It’s a fairly plain smelling e-liquid but often subtle. It is a nice all day vape.
On inhaling this e-liquid tastes like a soft creamy sponge cake. You can taste the buttercream layered on a thin sponge cake. It is such a familiar flavour, like birthday cake minus the sugary icing. When exhaling, a small hint of cherry jam comes through and leaves a sweet lasting cake taste on the tongue. This is an all round dessert vape that everyone can get on with. This one is for anyone who wants to start lightly with their desserts. 3/5
Custard Appeel – This e-liquid smells like top-notch gourmet vanilla custard. This is a simple scent but enough to get the stomach rumbling. My first thoughts on this e-liquid were that it just has a smooth vanilla flavour. On inhale you get the vanilla extract taste but then it develops to so much more. It becomes creamier, you get this through the flavour and it lasts from the start of the vape to the finish. This is a nice simple creamy vape that isn’t too sugary but still enough for a sweet kick. 3/5
Prism – This is a lovely-smelling fruity vape. It has an exotic tropical fruit blend with mango overtone. This smells very refreshing and makes the mouth water. A variety of sweet fruits blended together come through on the inhale of this e-liquid. The main flavour that arises at first is a delicious mango that isn’t too empowered due to a berry undertone. The name really reflects what is happening in the flavour of this e-liquid, it’s such a mixture of coloured fruits the name is well deserved. On the exhale, the fruity flavours continue and leave a sweet fruity aftertaste on the tongue. This is a well crafted vape worthy of all taste pallets. 5/5

Mellow Yellow
This bubble gum vape smells like the strong sweet bubble gum that we all know from our earliest childhood memories. This is exciting.
When inhaled the first taste is a citrusy blend saturated in bubble gum flavours. This is very pleasant and a trip down memory lane.
When exhaled the flavour then comes through. It is more of an orange tasting bubble gum and this is an interesting twist to the usual bubble gum flavours in the industry. This is very tasty and one of the sweetest bubble gum flavours that I have yet tasted. The orange citrus flavours give the bubble gum a refreshing edge in the right direction. Marvelous! 4/5
Crimson Sweet
This vape has a strong smell of bubble gum with an unusual twist, there is a strong undertone of a certain berry. When inhaled you receive a sweet sugary melon taste, its very delicious and the vape is so smooth without any harshness of nicotine.
When exhaling the strong bubble gum returns and mixes well with the melon tones to create a beautiful sweet vape. The aftertaste is that tasty flavour you receive when eating the small bubbly from the gumball machine - the bonus is you do not need any change in your pocket to enjoy them.

The Bazooka range comes in a well-branded, nicely-packaged box containing the three juices. The juices are Strawberry, Green Apple and Watermelon. These eliquids come in small 15ml glass sample bottles and work as a whole as a sample set.
Strawberry Sour Straws
This e-liquid smells like exactly what it says on the tin. Strawberry sweet straws! It smells similar to the big strawberries in the local tuck shop.
On inhale the flavour is soft but instant. WThe flavour is very sweet but so far no sourness which is rather strange as I was expecting an explosion of sourness.
On the exhale the sourness arrives, a slight fizzy sensation on the tongue and the strawberry flavour really comes through. This is a pleasant vape to say the least. The sourness is a fun edge to take with such a solid flavour.
Tasty and sweet 4/5
Green Apple Sour Straws
The smell of this e-liquid is very subtle but you can get that sour apple scent. It has a sweet essence and the sour apple undertones come through, it’s a teasing smell if anything.
On inhale the apple is very strong and instantly zaps the tongue with a sour buzz. The apple is a sweet candy apple flavour spiced up with a contrasting sour hit.
When exhaled the fizz reduces and so does the flavour. Although the flavour dies down there is a sweet sensation on the tongue moments after. Although the flavour softens on the exhale this is a fantastic tasting vape and a fun one at that. 4/5
Watermelon Sour Straws
Sweetie watermelons, that’s what it smells like. It is intriguing as the smell is so soft but appealing. This has no scent of sourness so I’m curious to see if its actually sour at all.
On the inhale this e-liquid tastes just like watermelon, maybe with an added sugar cube or two. It is very sweet and, to my surprise, there is a bit of a tingle on the tongue. It’s a delightful flavour yet again from the Bazooka range.
For a 3mg liquid, the hit from this vape is very smooth and I can’t even tell that it contains any nicotine at all.
On the exhale the watermelon flavour weakens a lot but the sourness leaves a little tasty tingle on the tongue. In my opinion the flavour is let down by the lack of flavour in the aftertaste but still a nice taste overall. 3/5

You open the bottle and your mind thinks “Hmm grape.” Now in my opinion grape is a tricky flavour to get right. No one apart from the odd few have got it right. It’s either way too sweet or very sickly. So I wicked up my coil and dripped it right on there. Boy was I surprised! The awesome people at Twelve Monkeys, I don’t know how you’ve done it but you have surely smashed it. Finally, a grape flavour that’s not too sweet and not too sickly! To inhale it, it’s like the best grape I have ever tasted but wait there’s more, did I mention there’s apple too that was a perfect surprise; apple and grape. The exhale is an awesome sweet with a taste of sour apple and my god, it’s amazing the two flavours complement themselves perfectly to make one awesome e-juice.
Like most of my reviews I’m using a mech mod with a dripper and the throat hit is perfect, just enough to satisfy my craving without overpowering the taste. If I’m completely honest, I’ve vape like half of this bottle whilst reviewing this juice because I loved it so much. 5/5
without even opening the bottle, I knew it was going to be a tropical mix of some kind. My first thoughts were “Well that can’t be right.”
Usually, tropical mixes smell very sweet with some kind of banana but no I was wrong it was creamy mango and I was in love immediately. As soon as you vape this you get a very smooth creamy mango with a sweet pineapple taste that dances on the tip of your tongue. The exhale is more sweet with the guava mixing in with the pineapple to make an
I can hear the rain pitter pattering on the window, so I sit back in my chair and drip some more and my mind wanders off to the tropical island. This juice Is a lovely mix of strawberry and watermelon that deserves much praise. The vape you inhale from this juice is just awesome! It’s very fruity and refreshing, the watermelon is predominant in there although with a perfect amount of strawberry mixed in on the inhale. The exhale, however, gives you an added fruit just a little touch of kiwi will leave your mouth watering and while your tonsils will still be buzzing from the strawberry it will leave you very satisfied. Yet again, I cannot think of a single reason why you should not buy this juice it is simply perfect in my eyes and with that being said, I will always carry a bottle in my personal stash since the throat hit is so smooth and a great flavour overall. Twelve monkeys have done it again and made a juice that is simply divine! Top marks guys, keep up the good work 5/5

The taste just hits whether inhaling or exhaling, with the blend of pear and apricot mixed so well it was hard to separate the two. Inhaling has a slight difference to the exhale though with a cooling effect, quite possibly the best cooling effect I’ve had from a juice yet since there was no minty or menthol taste with it.
The aftertaste leaves your tongue tingling with fresh fruit with apricot lingering the longest and a single hit is not enough to satisfy. All-in-all I highly recommend Frozen Clouds to any that love fruity juices, if you pick up a bottle you will not be disappointed. 4/5
Cloudy Reef - Coastal Fog10ml, 3mg, 80VG/20PG
This Juice comes in a 10 ml squeezy bottle with a child-proof cap. The label is a two-tone blue label with the Cloudy Reef logo and all text written in black. The smell has a strong banana scent mixed with vanilla, a hint of strawberry and a sweet smell of caramel. The taste is fantastic, inhaling gives a great banoffee flavour, sweet and fruity at the same time. Towards the end of the draw a little strawberry starts to come through, while exhaling the strawberry comes through stronger with a little vanilla and there is a vague hint of something nutty too, hazelnut would be my best guess.
The aftertaste you are left with is a beautiful blend of the flavours but the strawberry seems to fade away first, with the caramel and vanilla lingering the longest.
I thoroughly enjoy Coastal Fog, it has a brilliant blend of sweet and fruity and the
subtlety of the hazelnut is just enough to enhance the flavour further. I’ve been searching for a good banoffee juice and this fits the bill best so far. I particularly like how the added strawberry and vanilla break up the banoffee taste to

The smell is just divine, the pastry crust smell is dominant right away with a beautiful vanilla scent coming through too. Inhaling lets the pastry taste coat your tongue initially but as you exhale you experience a creamy vanilla that blends into the pastry flavour really well. The after taste you’re left with is the complete package, a vanilla cream-filled cannoli.
This is a great juice that appeals to everyone, a fantastic flavour that isn’t as sweet as some other pastry juices around so it doesn’t become sickly. 3/5

Skittles – 10ml, 0mg, 70VG/30PG
Opening the bottles of skittles flavour gives exactly what you would expect, the fantastic aroma of a pack of Skittles, like an explosion of fruit contained inside a bottle ready for your vaping pleasure. I can’t give my usual review of inhale and exhale flavours because it’s just not possible with this juice. Every single hit I took of Skittles appeared to have a different fruit flavour standing out the most. The first hit was a prominent blackcurrant flavour, the second tasted more like citrus, lime or lemon maybe and I got a very strong apple taste at one point too.
Very Berry 30ml, 3mg, Max VG
Cracking open the Very Berry bottle is a delight, the fruity blend of raspberries, strawberries and blueberries mixed in with the pastry just teases your nostrils and waiting to vape this is not an option. The blueberry hit me first when inhaling followed closely by the strawberry for a great tongue tingling start then exhaling has the raspberry hit hard followed up by the pastry taste to once again leave you with a mixed berry cannoli aftertaste. The Original Cannoli have absolutely
OMG is all that went through my head when I subjected my sense of smell to Bannoli, an immensely strong and sweet smell of banana with the pastry scent lingering in the background. The taste is just as mind-blowing as the smell, the taste while inhaling is like a banana exploding in your mouth. Exhaling still has the remnants of the banana explosion but is complimented fantastically by the pastry coming through. As with the other two juices the aftertaste you are left with is the same as you would get from actually eating a banana cannoli.
I can’t find a fault with Bannoli, other than running out of juice too fast but that is just a credit to the flavour. If you like banana this is definitely for you and the pastry taste in there too just seals the deal to make an awesome juice that I need an endless supply of. 5/5
I’m not completely sure exactly what flavours make up this juice but since each comes through independently and seemingly at random, I’m not sure it really matters either. You get a fantastic taste with every hit and a different taste with every hit so it makes a great all-dayvape that keeps your taste buds on their toes. 4/5
that perfectly recreate the experience of a blue slushie. 5/5
Strawberry Cheesecake – 10ml, 0mg, 70VG/30PG
The first thing that hits you as you open the bottle is the strong strawberry smell, there is a hint of a buttery biscuit smell too but not very strong.
Blue Slush – 10ml, 0mg, 70VG/30PG
Just a quick sniff of Blue Slush is all it took to take me back to Skegness Pier Arcade playing Street Fighter and Time Crisis while slurping on a blue bubblegum slushie. The smell is a perfect match to my expectations.
The hits on this juice are fantastic, every time is an incredible burst of bubblegum in your mouth. The aftertaste sticks around for a while too. Blue Slush is such a beautiful juice and all I can say about it is that I need more. It would be nice with a cooling effect to simulate the ice part of a slushie but it is available with a hint of mint, so that may well do the job.
A spectacular juice that leaves you begging for more and a smell and taste
Inhaling Strawberry Cheesecake gives you the taste of the base, a little biscuity but unfortunately I get a butter taste coming through strongest. Exhaling however brings out the strawberry, blasting your tastebuds and caressing your palate, then fusing with the butter biscuit taste to leave you with an allround taste of Strawberry Cheesecake that lingers for a minute or so.
I enjoyed the overall experience of this juice but I think a little hint of something extra is needed to dull the buttery taste of the inhale. A fine juice that makes for a great treat but I wouldn’t find myself vaping this all day. 2/5

Maple Glazed 60ml, 3mg, MAX VG
Maple Glazed smells like a sweet freshly baked doughnut with hints of vanilla and maple syrup in the mix too.
Inhaling tickles your tongue with the taste of the maple syrup glaze, a beautifully sweet start to an juice I’ve been looking forward to. The flavour of a vanilla doughnut is most prominent while exhaling and the two flavours blend together perfectly to leave an aftertaste that leaves your brain believing you have tucked into a maple syrup doughnut. Maple Glazed is a beautiful juice that will be enjoyed by anyone with a sweet-tooth and is a nice treat for those that don’t.
Danish Swirl 60ml, 3mg, MAX VG
The smell of Danish Swirl is exactly as you would expect, a strong buttery pastry comes through strongest and there is a whiff of the sweet glazing with just a slight touch of cinnamon.
The taste is fantastic, a lovely sweet buttery pastry dances over your tongue while inhaling, then exhaling brings the cinnamon out with such subtlety that I don’t mind it and I don’t particularly like cinnamon.
The biggest downside in my opinion is that the aftertaste leaves an almost greasy feeling in my mouth, but I guess that helps with getting the full experience of eating a Danish Swirl. I do enjoy this juice and recommend it if you like a Danish, but that greasy feeling in the aftertaste just knocks it down a notch in my books. 3/5
Fruit Salad or Skittles are the best comparisons I can make to explain the smell of Frooty Momma. It’s like a fruit explosion that invades you nose in the most pleasant way.
The taste is a difficult one to describe, whether inhaling or exhaling you get a mix of fruit. I managed to pick out strawberry, blackberry and there was a melon like taste too. I’m not going to try to pick out all the individual fruit flavours but I will say that Frooty Momma would make a fantastic summer-time all-dayvape. I heartily recommend this juice, a beautiful mash-up of fruit that works so brilliantly. 5/5

AN E-CIGARETTE MANUFACTURER WHO FOCUS ON BRAND AS WELL AS PRODUCTS
Paving the way for innovative e-cigarettes, CEO Kevin Yang launched Teslacigs in 2013 with a mission to focus on brand awareness and develop healthier alternatives to smoking.
Based in Shenzhen, China, Teslacigs have been establishing their brand for over three years by developing various mods to meet the needs of all vapers. They have become one of the most popular e-cigarette companies in the rapidly expanding vaping industry. The past three years have been the rise of Teslacigs as they have been merging their products into the USA and have begun to develop a market in the EU. Currently, Teslacigs have 46 distributors in the USA and eight distribution points in the EU with plans to expand.
Kevin and others at Teslacigs have been improving their products continuously whilst delivering higher quality service to their customers. In 2016, Vape Bus, an online communication platform located in China, interviewed President Kevin on the company. He commented “A good product doesn’t mean it is also a good brand,” which is why Kevin decided to develop the brand itself as he aims “To make Teslacigs a respectable brand but not the best or best-selling or the most valuable brand.”
Gloria Liu from Teslacigs, thinks that the vaping market in China is currently evolving. She said “E-cig in China is new but the vaping market is big because the population of China is the largest in
the world.” She said “There’s no laws here to regulate e-cigarettes” even though pharmacist Hon Lik invented the e-cigarette in China. Kevin also said that “People are paying more and more attention to electronic cigarettes.”
Due to the smaller vaping market, Teslacigs initially sold most of their products including, mods, abroad at the time of manufacturing. Kevin said “At first our products were mainly sold abroad because at the time, domestic electronic cigarettes had a low popularity as there were not so many users as today.” However, e-cigarettes are generating more popularity in China and Kevin is proud to be a part of the vaping community. He thinks that cigarettes are becoming easily replaceable due to the price increase. Kevin said “Most users choose e-cigs simply because it can replace cigarettes.”
Teslacigs pride themselves on delivering excellent customer service to their customers and provide extra services such as repairing mods in China where customers can return their products for repair for free.Gloria said “Customers can return their defective product to where they bought it from, then the store owner will send it to either the distributor or wholesaler. They will then contact us and according to the problem, we will send a new mod to the distributor.”
Kevin wants to ensure that vapers have the best vaping experience. He comments that “Making money is the first goal for a company but for Teslacigs, we will not necessarily work for money.” Even with the variety of mods manufactured by Teslacigs, Kevin and his team are continuing to improve their range of mods.
Some of Teslacigs most popular mod is the Tesla Invader III. Gloria said that “The Tesla Invader III is our hottest product and over 300,000 mods have been sold. It has 240W power with a unique special appearance.” They also have plans to release new mods soon.
Gloria said “This month we are excited to release the Tesla Nano 120W Steampunk.”
Teslacigs aim to design mods according to what their vapers require hence why they continue to strive to create various mods in different shapes and sizes.
This can help to further improve Teslacigs reputation by targeting many vapers needs.

“A GOOD PRODUCT DOESN’T MEAN IT IS ALSO A GOOD BRAND,” WHICH IS WHY KEVIN DECIDED TO DEVELOP THE BRAND ITSELF AS HE AIMS “TO MAKE TESLACIGS A RESPECTABLE BRAND BUT NOT THE BEST OR BEST-SELLING OR THE MOST VALUABLE BRAND.”
INTRODUCES THE UK’S FIRST FEMALE-FRIENDLY RANGE OF E-LIQUIDS
Pink Label has put together the UK’s first female friendly e-liquid line up which has been designed in pink and black packaging with a range of flavours chosen to appeal to women.
The company says that traditionally vaping has been seen as very maledominated with branding and flavours designed with men in mind.
Pink Label’s line up consists of prosecco and strawberries, porn star martini, elderflower presse and pink lemonade - all flavour profiles which have been specifically been chosen with
“WE SAW A MASSIVE GAP IN THE MARKET. WOMEN VAPE TOO BUT NO ONE WAS REACHING OUT TO THIS AUDIENCE WITH JUICES THAT THEY WILL LOVE TO USE.”
something about that.
“When I had the idea I put together a focus group, to check the flavours and branding are something women are looking for and I found out it was. The girls were so excited they would get to vape prosecco, alongside their glass of prosecco.”
Rachel, who is based in Essex, quit smoking for vaping two years ago and said it did not take to long to become aware that the industry was very male dominated.
She said: “Women only come into the picture when a new device or juice is being advertised and that usually is only because they are there half naked to advertise it.
“I saw that nobody was reaching out to this market with a juice range specifically aimed at women and decided to fill that gap.
“I then started thinking about some of drinks which women are going crazy for and it all started coming together.
“I thought Prosecco because it’s a very fashionable drink for women right now and a lot of women like Pornstar Martinis when they’re on a night out so why not have a vape juice to match?”
She said Pink Label also wants to change the way vaping is viewed, given that around half of all smokers are female which means there is a lot of potential to attract women smokers to the vaping community.
Rachel added: “Many vape shops often feature black interiors, dark wood, chesterfield style seating and have a bearded man behind the counter surrounded by clouds, all of which can be quite intimidating to the average female customer.
“By stocking a line like Pink Label, vape shops are inviting women into their stores and reaching out to them in a new way, with something specifically for them.”
Pink Label is currently stocked in Vape and Juice stores, across the South East and London and early indications look very promising indeed.
Rachel says if the concept proves popular she would like to expand the Pink Label brand to include female focussed vaping accessories and devices.
Nancy Vasey-Reed, store manager at Vape and Juice in Southend-on-Sea thinks that women are looking for vape products more suited to them.
She said: “Women are more commonly after smaller devices they can fit in a clutch bag, that look stylish and are more discreet, meaning they tend to use mouth to lung devices. The Pink Label range is a 50/50 mix so it goes in any tank.”
A new UK juice company has launched with the aim of specifically targeting women vapers.

Some of the best juices of 2016
Here’s a list featuring some of the biggest must try e-liquids from the past year.
Pacha Mama - Mango, Pitaya, Pineapple
Pacha Mama e-liquids are a series of delicious fruit-based vapes, which all feature a triple blend of different flavour combinations. Getting pineapple right is often hard to pull off, mango is not everybody’s cup of tea and many people have no idea what a pitaya actually is, so this might be seen as a risky flavour combination. However this really works well and even vapers who are not really mango or pineapple fans say this is a great all day vape. Daring and different, this stands out from the crowd and is a wonderful, fruity vape.
Premium Labs - Heavy Metal
Heavy Metal is a really popular juice in the Convicted Vapes range of e-liquids from Premium Labs.
This double award-winning e-liquid is a honeydew and cucumber blend with a tangy twist of lime. (It picked up the Best Sweet/Candy Award in the 2006 Vapouround Awards.) Once again we see great flavours from a great juice where it is clear that a lot of time and effort was put into getting this just right.
The cucumber serves to make this a really refreshing juice while the lime zest gives it a wonderful added kick on the exhale. It is little wonder this juice has so many fans around the world.
Dinner Lady - Lemon Tart
Dinner Lady stormed onto the vaping scene this year and have picked up award after award for their juices. The company dominated the Vaper Expo event at the NEC in May and have experienced success after success since then.
Lemon Tart regularly gets five star reviews with its combination of sharp lemon curd, meringue and a delicious pastry crust. The bottle looks great, the design is spot on, the e-liquid smells wonderful and is a dream to vape. Dinner Lady have got this one spot on.
OFE - Cup O’ Joe
OFE stands for Old Fashioned Elixir which just conjures up the idea of something special and different. This sets the bar high and puts added pressure on the manufacturers to really deliver something powerful here.
Cup O’ Joe most certainly does not disappoint. This is the e-liquid equivalent to that perfectly roasted, rich coffee served with just a touch of luxurious cream. This won the Best Tea/Coffee in the 2006 Vapouround Awards. If you can’t wait for your coffee while you are waiting for your coffee to brew then Cup O’ Joe will do the trick.

Vape Shlurp - Export
The first thing that stands out about this e-liquid is the vibrant colours used on the bottle. The whole thing screams “look at me!”
It is so tasty, says the advertising blurb, that it would make “an alien cyclops crave,” and cause a silver robot to “curse in delight.” It seems to have a powerful effect on many human vapers too because this has proved to be a really popular juice in 2016.
Cafe Racer - Lucky 13
This is an award-winning juice which never gets old. It regularly picks up five star reviews and has most certainly withstood the test of time. This juice was named Best Tobacco in the 2016 Vapouround Awards and also won Best in Show at Vape Summit IV for tobacco flavour. It combines creamy vanilla, toasted almond and caramel topped off with a smooth tobacco finish and works very well when vaped alongside an IPA or craft beer.
The Original Boss - Apple Crack
This is described as an apple pie-ish apple jacks cereal juice, that really keeps you coming back for more. These are no mere marketing words because this is a juice which has proved extremely popular with many Apple Crack fans coming back for more.
Regarded by many as setting the standards for an apple pie vape, this is a very smooth juice combining the flavours of rich American apple pie with hefty dose of cinnamon to really bring out the flavour.
The Heisenberg e-liquid is a secret recipe that combines a fruity undertone with a cool after sensation that really put Manchester-based Vampire Vapes on the map.
People love the mix of fruit and aniseed topped off with a menthol freshness and Heisenberg won the Best Mint/Menthol at the 2016 Vapouround Awards.
This juice has been described as the daddy of all day vapes and if you have tried it then it is easy to see why.
Vampire Vapes - Heisenberg Bomb Sauce - Alien Piss
This has proved to be a real star of 2016 and is a very popular juice indeed. It sold out within one week when we opened our first Vapouround Vape Lounge at the end of the year. The in-your-face labelling shouts “Try me now!” and those who do try it keep coming back for more.
This juice combines the cooling sensation of an ice-cold lemonade with the added flavours of blueberries and raspberries. The flavour combinations work really well together and it is little wonder that this juice gets so many five star reviews.
Psycho Bunny - Melonade
Melonade is part of the Psycho Bunny range of juices from Eco Vape. As the name suggests, Melonade is a combination of sweet melon with a splash of lemonade.
Reviewers have said it smells just like fresh melon when the bottle is opened and when vaped the melon and lemonade flavours combine really well to produce a really refreshing sweet vape. This is an ideal juice for vapers who like smooth, sweet flavours.

The making of Decadent Vapours’ new film By their nuttiest
cast member.
Some would say what we got up to that day in November 2016 was a lot of shenanigans and, do you know, to some extent I would agree. Although my part was relatively small, the impact and the suspense my part was to generate I knew would be pivotal to the overall success.
Of a normal morning I am usually roused by the sound of people warbling along to some ditty on the radio but that particular morning I was woken up earlier than normal to the sound of sawing and general banging about. People I hadn’t seen before were walking all over the place in those luminous yellow waistcoats, jeans and beards, all except that is the one female amongst them, she had hair the same colour as me although hers was a little more chestnut. I digress.
I soon worked out that they had come across from Londidium as they had that city look about them, you know, quite relaxed on the surface but with a general air of panic about them.
They had brought lots of new fangled equipment with them, all very high tech and a particularly big one of

when Pete, the owner, walked in and got blasted for being too noisy!
Everyone was involved in one way or another, even John our posty who was just ‘doing his rounds’ got involved. The way he put that package in his sack was momentous, even though I have seen him do that every day for years he came into his own when in front of that camera, and the way he delivered his line, so gracefully yet with such authority, ‘Cheers’ - we all knew immediately that it would be a highlight.
As the day went on my nerves did begin to kick in, but the only opportunity I actually got to practice my line was when they went into the MD’s office to film – I wondered what they thought of the fact he has a disco ball in there and a big boar head that speaks to him! No one actually knows where he came from;
he just appeared one day, all dapper in tweed and that big feathery hat!
Anyway, I digress again, I managed to catch a bit of shut eye before I was due in make up, nothing worse than bags under your eyes and the lights show them up something shocking. A few stray hairs and a bit of product on my silky locks and I was ready.
The crew had very kindly hung a mirror in my house so that I could see when the others were coming, usually they just call out but obviously today it was different.
Action!
I watched as the team strode towards me and then, heart pumping, mouth a little dry and I was on… ‘Splendid’ I said as I gave them the thumbs up.

Caleb Gibney-McGuire started vaping around five years ago, but only fully committed in 2015 after his son was born. After collecting some of his vaping gear, he was off cigarettes fully within a week. Caleb says that it was Instagram that started his love for vaping.
He said: “I started seeing the juice bottles I was using had Instagram logos on so I started searching on Instagram for vape pictures. That’s when I started seeing the beginning of these crazy
coil Instagram accounts and I just became infatuated.” His background has always been working within mechanics and after he saw the crazy coil builds on Instagram, it captivated him to try and find out how to do it. Caleb spends a lot of his time building coils, especially when he first started. He said: “For months I would just build as much as possible for myself and I was going to every vape meet I could to learn more and more about
coil building.
“I found that I really loved coil building and almost organically, it turned into a business for myself here in Colorado.”
Coil building has really turned his life around because it’s helped him kick his life into shape and he’s even making money from building coils.
He said: “It’s great because through my building, I have gotten to involve myself in advocacy, the vape community and have an extra income for my family.”

“I have built a work bench with my vices and swivels and different drill set ups and everything is neat and organized just how I like it!”
Caleb is also very proud of how far his coil building has brought him in such a short space of time from just building for fun to now treating it like a second job to him.
He said: “I try to spread vape advocacy and like to think that possibly one of these builds might just be that vape that works just right to get someone off cigarettes or gets them into such a fun and rewarding hobby.”

A to Z OF MODS
A SMALL SELECTION OF INTERESTING MODS
Long, long ago when vaping was in its infancy e-cigarettes looked like traditional cigarettes.
However it didn’t take long for manufacturers to realise that they didn’t actually have to look like the traditional cigarettes they were replacing. It was at this point that the humble e-cigarette started to get really interesting.
New designs could make devices more powerful, more user friendly and make the experience of vaping better than before.
Soon there was an explosion of different devices as manufacturers began to experiment with new materials for their mods, new shapes and new functionality. The vaping community warmed to this choice and now people were writing about the devices, reviewing them, comparing them to others and making videos about them for YouTube. People would argue passionately about why they preferred one mod over another - and just like we saw in the smartphone market - fans would want to upgrade when newer or
better models came out.
Here we look at a small selection of mods out there today in the first part of our A to Z of mods feature.
This is not intended to be a comprehensive look at all the mods out there (you would need a catalogue to do that) but simply a look at some of the different devices on the market todayeach beginning with a different letter of the alphabet.
They all have one thing in common… they all look stunning.

VAPECOMMUNICATE:
COMMUNICATIVE APPROACHES TO ACHIEVING COMMON GROUND WITH NON-BELIEVERS & THE OPPOSITION
WORDS & PHOTOS BY TONY OTTOMANELLI II
“Understanding the Significance of Expressing Effective Interpersonal Communication Skills” is first and foremost, absolute and without a doubt, our best chance for the Vaping community to utilize as a tool for advocating in favor of the Vaping lifestyle, so that other people, primarily non-Vapers can fully comprehend our well-meaning intentions.
Often times, attempting to discuss all the things we believe to be amazing about the vape life are also often times seemingly very dull to others who are non-vapers. A solid 80% of the time a vaper attempts to discuss all the fascinating features involved with vaping to a non-vaper, that individual who does not partake in the vaping lifestyle will begin to appear to be uninterested, which is highly detectable from their body language. In turn, these sorts of reactions from another will catch a vaper off-guard and begin to lower their selfconfidence pertaining to the information they’re sharing.
As a social experiment, next time you are face-to-face with one who does not vape, feel free to strike up a conversation about vaping - telling them all about your most recently purchased device and all it's features as well as all the health benefits, making it a point to inform them how much better you feel now that you are not smoking. Guaranteed one of the only things the non-vaper will be able to recite about that interaction is the fact that you quit smoking. This could be a result of many different
factors. One primary reason is that the non-vaper knows nothing about vaping and do not care to know, so they ultimately have nothing to contribute to the conversation unfortunately. When you’re engaging in social intrapersonal communication, the other must be engaged as well. Therefore, to get them involved and engaged in the dialogue, simply begin with questions, closeended, yes or no questions, then move onto open-ended questions that allows them to share their thoughts and feelings on the matter in more detail. Regardless, the problematic scenario at hand is that we, the vapers, are approaching ways to vape-communicate all wrong. The process of efficient approaches to vape-communicate are essential for our cause of advocating
“As a social experiment, next time you are face-to-face with one who does not vape, feel free to strike up a conversation about vapingtelling them all about your most recently purchased device and all it's features as well as all the health benefits, making it a point to inform them how much better you feel now that you are not smoking.”
for the vaping lifestyle. Thus, this article features an explanation of what happens when two people have a discussion, what messages get through, the science behind first impressions, how easily the receiver of information
182 ISSUE 09 VAPOUROUND MAGAZINE FYI
can misjudge and also labeled the messages incorrectly, how people mentally process information, the mental shortcuts we all use to make sense of the world, the breakdowns and barriers during communication and approaches to overcome these barriers and communication issues.
When we interact with another person, we are literally bombarded with information. What the person looks like, what he or she is saying, and how he or she is acting, all comprise but a fraction of the information available to us that we may use in forming an impression of the individual. One judgment we may make about another individual concerns his overall character. In other words, we want to know how honest, trustworthy, likeable, or good the person is. Initial encounters are emotionally concentrated events that can overwhelm us - even convince us that the room is spinning. We walk away from them with a first impression that is like a Polaroid picture - a head-to-toe image that develops instantly and never entirely fades. Often, that snapshot captures important elements of the truth (Lesko 2006:32).
However this demonstrates that certain crucial labels can transform the entire operation of the person cut leading to
attributions which are related to the label that on a broad cultural basis Or even, perhaps, on an autochthonous or indigenous basis (Lesko 2006:37).
Communication is perhaps the most important factor in determining the kinds of relationships we have with others. Some people talk to a person, at a person, or with a person. Effective Communication exists between two people when the receiver interprets the sender’s message the way the sender intended it. However, we often expect our listeners to act in accordance with the intentions of our message, and we are often bewildered, hurt, or angry when our listeners do not do so.
In the book, “Becoming Aware: A Text/ Workbook for Human Relations and Personal Adjustment” both authors, Velma Walker & Lynn Brokaw focus on all the basics and issues that may arise during interpersonal communication. The book states: “When two people talk, six possible messages can get through:”
• What you mean to say
• What you actually say
• What the other person hears
• What the other person thinks he hears
• What the other person says about what you said
• What you think the other person said about what you said
As much communicating as we do, most of us are not all that efficient in performing this simple act. Perhaps, the trite, but true statement - keep the communication channels openindicates the complexity, rather than simplicity of communication (Walker & Brokaw 2001:229). The world around us presents a complex array of information. Due simply to sheer volume it is humanly impossible to pay attention to all the information available to us. So, given all of this information how are we supposed to make sense of it?
A major interest of social psychologist is how people mentally process information they receive. Decisions are not always based on a thorough analysis of the information at hand. Instead, people sometimes rely on mental shortcuts or intuition and reaching decisions. These mental shortcuts, or heuristics, are commonly employed strategies that people use for making sense of the world. Problem is, these mental strategies often get us into trouble by shading how we interpret events in the world around us (Lesko 2006:64).
Social cognition is concerned with the process that people use to make sense of the social world. One finding from research in this area is that people tend to be cognitive misers; that is, all things being equal, people prefer to think as little as possible when reaching decisions. To help them achieve this goal, they employ cognitive strategies such as heuristics or mental shortcuts for understanding the world.
Even though we use many types of mental shortcuts to help us explain and understand the social world around us, still all these mental shortcuts ultimately do, however, are create biases and how we interpret the events around us. Many of these biases involve inconsequential events, and no harm comes from believing them. But in other situations, using this biased information processing to make important decisions about our lives will eventually lead to problems.
Thomas Gilovich was one professional who examined some of the biases and everyday judgement that could easily cloud our ability for accurate critical thinking (Lesko 2006:65).
Without a doubt, many of the difficulties that arise in communication stem from the fact that we fail to remember that communication is really a two-way process. Open two-way communication facilitates understanding in communication, which in turn helps such things as developing a fulfilling
VAPOUROUND MAGAZINE ISSUE 09 183 FYI
relationship and being able to work together effectively.
It becomes apparent that “breakdowns” can occur at any step. Sometimes these “breakdowns” are caused by barrierssomething that stops, blocks, prevents, or hinders. In communication, we may be hindered by a number of barriers that seem to arise from natural human differences and others that are the result of personal habits or attitudes. All or most can be eliminated, changed, or minimized. Some of these barriers include: background and experience, feelings and emotions, word meaning and usage, listening only for words, jumping to conclusions, failure to seek clarification, hidden agendas, stereotyping, physical environment, being self-centered, talking to fast, generalizations, language level and most importantly, the failure to listen (Walker & Brokaw 2001:233).
Taking these barriers into account, there are many ways to improve the verbal communication. Those ways include speaking with enthusiasm, annunciating, using inflection, avoid antagonistic words, use short sentences, adjust the volume of your voice to the situation, adjust your speaking rate to the situation and keep the door open for feedback.
Dorothy Nevell once said, “The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting
moment” (Walker & Brokaw 2001:244). For the most part, our communication attempts go astray because we fail to listen. We have been given two ears but a single mouth, in order that we may hear more and talk less. Unfortunately, few people are good listeners. Researchers claim that 75% of oral communication is ignored, misunderstood or quickly forgotten. Yet the quality of our friendships the closeness of our family relationships and our effectiveness at work depend to Great extent on our ability to listen. Thankfully there are numerous suggestions on how we can improve our listening skills. Be receptive and
attentive, allow the speaker to speak freely, listen to the speaker and ignore distractions, avoid preoccupation with your own thoughts, avoid all judgements, try to listen for more than just the spoken word, use feedback and reflect on what the speaker said. Communication experts describe listening as our primary communication activity (Walker & Brokaw 2001:244).
“For the most part, our communication attempts go astray because we fail to listen. We have been given two ears but a single mouth, in order that we may hear more and talk less. Unfortunately, few people are good listeners. Researchers claim that 75% of oral communication is ignored, misunderstood or quickly forgotten. ”
Taking all of these suggestions into account, there are also a number of methods or rules to stick by in order to achieve effective intrapersonal communication that can be utilized to your advantage for making good first impressions. For example, Don't Betray Your Anxiety - if you're not quick-witted or well-versed in certain subjects you can still make a great impression - just focus on the other person. This, in turn, will take the pressure off you. However, avoid interrogating a new acquaintance. If you're jittery, control movements, such as leg twitching. And remember to speak slowly - nervousness makes us talk too fast.
We are often tempted to share impressive things about ourselves, but the one idea you should keep in mind is “how am I making the other person feel?” Actively encourage others to talk about themselves and respond genuinely without bringing it back to you - so another method to live by when wanting to make good first impressions is to Curb
184 ISSUE 09 VAPOUROUND MAGAZINE FYI
Conversational Narcissism.
A third and very important rule to follow is to Control Your Expressions. When you first meet someone many researchers say it is best to focus on your eye contact, your smile and your posture. Next, another rule would be to Get in SyncResearchers have found that adjusting your posture, voice, words and gestures to match those of a new acquaintance is critical, because we are attracted to others who are just like us.
People respond when you speak at their pace. To establish an instant rapport, mirror your new friend’s head nods and tilts. Of course, that may seem kind of like a strange interactive method when attempting to make a good impression, yet it comes highly recommended by social interaction researchers as long as you don’t appear to look like a mime. One of the most important factors to consider when making a good first impression is to Use Flattery Sparingly. People like to be flattered, even if they suspect you are brown-nosing - they still like it, but use flattery judiciously. Focus on the other person's accomplishments or achievements. This works best when a person believes you don't say ingratiating things to just anyone. The Do-Over is also critical to keep in mind because this deals with If you happen to initially make a bad impression, the game isn’t over yet, don’t give up - do-it-over. If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again. Show your sense of humor, say something like “that was my representative you met earlier, I apologize for his/her attitude” and simply introduce yourself again.Believe it or not, it works 99% of the time. Everyone loves redemption (Lesko 2006:35). In conclusion, all of these suggestions have been directly proposed by researchers and experts of social interaction and can surely help improve or guide anyone towards effective
communication. However, these recommendations are not necessarily geared toward just anyone, they are directly highlighted for the vaping advocates within our community of vapers. By no means is this a lecture on how we don’t know how to communicate - it is more like a testament to the fact that non-vapers prefer not to hear about anything vape-related and we have a responsibility to make them care. Nor is this a guide on how to manipulate your conversation partner - it is a set of suggestive approaches to help vapers persuade non-vapers to possess a mindset that allows them to understand deep-down how much vaping means and what it represents for the entire nonvaping world.
Typically, advocating for vaping may include writing and calling your state’s representatives , signing petitions and remaining active on social media. However, I believe it is essential that we get back to basics. Those basics would, of course, include face-to-face efficient intrapersonal communication skills. Vapers are genuinely great communicators, but others are not and if they have nothing to contribute to the conversation, they won’t care. Hopefully, the notion of “Vapecommunicate” had some helpful tips for advocates to become more well-rounded listeners. Hence, building social interactive efficiency for a collective constituency of advocates.
The FDA regulations are extremely illogical and increasingly confusing, which in turn, becomes increasingly complicated. Thus, this is exactly what causes all the misunderstandings and resentment among vapers and their counterparts. This war on Vaping has angered so many and unfortunately we seem to become increasingly more irate as a result.
This is exactly why successful approaches in communication are necessary keys to achieving common ground with the opposition, but most importantly with non-vapers.
For Vaping Advocates, one of the most beneficial forms of advocating, would be an everlasting nourishing enrichment process for finely tuning the communication skills required to obtain the equality, respect and non-marginalization this passionate community so desperately desires and deserves.

FLAVOR MONSTER PUTS EMPLOYEE CARE AT THE TOP OF ITS AGENDA AND PROMOTES WORKPLACE EQUALITY
It has already been four months since Flavor Monster visited the UK for The Vaper Expo at the end of last year. We got the chance to talk to CEO of the company, Laura Riggs, and what she enjoys about working in the vaping industry and how Flavor Monster cater towards their employees.
VM. What do you enjoy most about your role and working in the vaping industry?
FM. I make all the liquid so the best part is hearing feedback. I love talking to customers and hearing what they have to say about the flavours as well as their own personal journey. It really does make me happy when I hear about people making a change in their health for the better. I think back to my sister and all the things she can do now that she couldn’t when she was smoking and how much longer she will be in my life because she chose to make the change. I also enjoy seeing the growth from where we started, to where we are now. Jarod (business partner) and I often reminisce about our meagre beginnings.
ALL OF OUR PAY IS EQUAL, AND ALL OF OUR WOMEN MAKE THE SAME INCOME FOR THE SAME JOB AS ALL THE MEN.
VM. How do Flavor Monster cater towards its employees?
FM. From the start it was just Jarod and I. But over the past 12 months we have grown our team to include 12 employees who all work across different departments of the business. Jarod and I came from large corporate backgrounds where money was vastly more important than customers, and definitely more important than the employees. From the beginning Flavor Monster made a commitment that ownership will always put the employees first. So with our growth in actual number of employees, we have also been able to provide the type of work environment we wished we had during our corporate days.
We offer flex scheduling, paid time off, infinite (yes infinite) bereavement, maternity, paternity and sick time, as well as $500 per year to every employee for self-improvement. Basically, any Flavor Monster employee who has always had a dream, or goal, or passion to learn something new or to better themselves outside of work, we pay up to $500 per year for them to do it.
We have had some employees use their Self Improvement Bonus to buy Mountain Passes for skiing or mountain biking, one of our employees used their
bonus to buy medical equipment, and others have used it to enrol in classes at the local community colleges.
We have also put a primary focus on equality in the work place. We believe that women have just as much, if not more to offer the vape community as men do. To that end, over half of our staff is a diverse group of strong women working in various capacities for Flavor Monster.
All of our pay is equal, and all of our women make the same income for the same job as all the men. Our country is currently fighting the battle between gender equality and it seems like providing a supportive, equal working environment for both men and women is vastly more difficult than it should be.
Being an owner of a business puts me in a unique position to not have to wait for federal regulation to look past race, religion, gender, sexual orientation and age, and just do what’s right. And that has been our primary focus.
If you had told me one year ago that we would be in a position to grow our company to this level, and to provide for our employees and customers in the way we feel is morally, ethically and professionally responsible the way we have, I would have said you’re crazy!
