Hello and welcome to Issue 51 of Vapouround.

As we navigate through an ever-evolving industry, it is impossible to ignore the mounting pressures that vapers and the vaping community face today. These issues arrive at a critical juncture, with several key developments threatening to reshape the landscape of vaping in Europe and the UK. One of the most pressing concerns is the European Council’s ongoing discussions about a potential flavour ban. Flavours have long been a cornerstone of the vaping experience, offering adult smokers a compelling alternative to traditional cigarettes.

A flavour ban could stifle innovation and make it harder for smokers to transition to less harmful alternatives.

The very essence of vaping culture, which celebrates diversity and choice, is at risk of being compromised. Simultaneously, the UK government is contemplating a new tax on vaping products. While the aim is to reduce youth access and consumption, such measures might inadvertently drive vapers back to smoking or to the black market.

The introduction of additional taxes could also hinder small businesses and independent vape shops, which are already operating on thin margins. The economic implications are significant, potentially leading to job losses and decreased consumer access to safer nicotine products. Adding another layer of complexity is the future of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, initially proposed by the Conservative government. With the Labour Party as the next government, all eyes are on how they will handle this critical piece of legislation. Labour’s approach to this bill will be pivotal, as it could either solidify vaping as a recognised harm reduction tool or impose stricter regulations that might hinder its progress.

SHORTFILLS

Vapouround Journalists select their top picks of short vape-related stories and research making news around the world.

WORLD VAPE DAY

World Vape Day highlighted the benefits of safer nicotine products and aimed to counter misinformation about vaping. Advocates emphasised the life-saving potential of reduced-risk products like e-cigarettes and heated tobacco. They called for evidence-based policies and criticised organisations spreading disinformation. The day aimed to educate the public on the advantages of vaping as a harm reduction tool and to push for truthful, science-backed public health strategies. The event brought together global voices advocating for responsible vaping and the recognition of its role in reducing tobacco-related harm.

VAPING GIVEN The Red Card

Totally Wicked, the sponsor of Blackburn Rovers since 2018, is facing renewed criticism from politicians. While one critic will not seek re-election, another is expected to continue pushing for restrictions on vape advertising in sports. Former Health Minister Andrea Leadsom and SNP’s Kirsten Oswald argue that such sponsorships attract young people to vaping. Despite this, Totally Wicked remains a proud supporter of Blackburn Rovers, emphasising their commitment to adult customers and local community support.

PANAMA’S Reverse

A Warm WELCOME

Douglas Button, a recycling boss for Guernsey has welcomed the planned ban on disposable vapes. The proposed legislation aims to address environmental concerns caused by the improper disposal of single-use vapes, which contribute to electronic waste. The ban is part of a broader initiative to promote sustainable practices and reduce waste on the island. Environmental advocates and local officials support the measure, expressing the need for responsible vaping solutions to protect the environment.

A GLIMMER OF Hope

The Supreme Court of Panama has overturned the country’s ban on vaping products, deeming it unconstitutional. The decision followed a lawsuit by the Asociación por la Reducción de Daños del Tabaquismo de Panamá (ARDT Panama), which argued that the ban violated constitutional rights by depriving smokers of a lowerrisk alternative. The court’s ruling also noted procedural errors in the law’s passage by the National Assembly. This landmark decision comes amid a regional context where several Latin American countries, including Brazil and Mexico, maintain strict regulations on vaping products.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reversed its ban on Juul Labs’ vaping products, nearly two years after the initial order. The reversal follows new case law and a more thorough review of Juul’s application. Despite this, the FDA emphasised that this action is not an authorisation for Juul products but places them under pending status for further scientific evaluation. Juul’s products will remain available during this period as the company continues to seek full marketing authorisation.

ORAL Over INHALE

Oral nicotine pouches have emerged as a controversial alternative to smoking, touted for delivering lower levels of toxic substances compared to traditional cigarettes. However, experts caution against equating lower harm with safety…recent studies underscore potential health risks associated with prolonged use, including nicotine addiction and oral health concerns. Advocates argue for rigorous regulation and comprehensive research to fully understand the long-term impacts. The rise of nicotine pouches highlights ongoing debates over harm reduction strategies in tobacco control.

Key points from the factsheet include that vaping is significantly less harmful than smoking, does not cause cancer, and is an effective smoking cessation tool. The UKVIA hopes this factsheet will clarify the benefits and safety of vaping for smokers seeking alternatives.

A Forceful CLOSURE

The FDA and Justice Department enforced the closure of Boosted LLC, a small e-liquid manufacturer, citing non-compliance with federal regulations. Supporters of vaping rights criticise the decision, arguing it stifles small businesses and limits consumer choice. Conversely, health advocates welcome the crackdown, highlighting concerns over underage vaping and product safety. Boosted LLC’s shutdown underscores the challenges faced by niche players in navigating stringent regulatory frameworks and public health scrutiny. As debates over vaping’s societal impact intensify, the fate of Boosted LLC serves as a focal point in the broader discussion on balancing industry innovation with public health protection.

SPANISH VAPERS

Protest

In Spain, vapers have taken to the streets in protest against a recent flavour ban, arguing it restricts consumer choice and threatens harm reduction efforts. Supporters of vaping highlight its role in smoking cessation and reducing tobacco-related harm. However, policymakers defend the ban as a necessary step to curb youth vaping and protect public health. The clash reflects broader global debates over the regulation of vaping products, balancing concerns over addiction and youth uptake with the potential benefits of harm reduction strategies. As stakeholders voice their concerns, the future of vaping regulations remains a contentious issue in public health policy.

Hidden

Lithuania faces controversy over its dramatic increase in taxes on vaping products, amounting to a staggering 1460 percent rise, which critics argue effectively imposes a ‘hidden ban’. Proponents of vaping assert this move unfairly targets harm reduction alternatives and could drive users back to traditional smoking. Meanwhile, Lithuanian authorities defend the tax hike as a measure to protect public health, citing concerns over rising youth vaping rates and the need to regulate a growing industry. The debate highlights global tensions between promoting public health and supporting harm reduction strategies amidst evolving attitudes towards nicotine consumption.

tobacco use effectively. The debate emphasises global discussions on balancing tobacco control with harm reduction initiatives, reflecting evolving attitudes towards nicotine consumption and public health policy.

WORLD No Tobacco DAY

On World No Tobacco Day, vapers around the globe voiced dissent against restrictive measures targeting vaping flavours, arguing these policies hinder harm reduction efforts and consumer freedom. Advocates emphasise vaping’s potential role in smoking cessation and reducing health risks associated with traditional tobacco use. Conversely, health authorities defend regulations as essential for curbing youth vaping rates and protecting public health from emerging nicotine addiction issues. The annual observance underscores ongoing debates over balancing tobacco control measures with harm reduction strategies, highlighting the complex landscape of global health policies aimed at reducing tobacco-related harm.

Careful WHAT YOU WISH FOR

More young people would take up smoking if vaping was banned or made more expensive through taxation, according to new UK research. The Daily Mail reported that the University of East Anglia study also found that youngsters were ‘far more aware of the potential harms of vaping than the dangers of smoking’. The researchers asked 29 people aged between 16 and 20 about their ‘motivations, experiences and perceptions’ of using disposable vapes. Many said they could get round a disposable vapes ban by stockpiling products or buying from the black market

Quit Lying: THE JOKE IS ON WHO

The World Health Organization is under fire over a social media campaign which insists vapes are ‘designed to kill’. In an X post claiming to ‘expose the truth and protect young people’, the international health body asks: ‘What looks cute, smells good but is designed to kill?’ and answers: ‘A vape!’ Tobacco harm reduction advocate Charles A Gardner hit back: “Fifteen past-Presidents of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco disagree with you. Nicotine vapes are designed to SAVE LIVES (not to kill). Please Quit Lying.”

Swede ESCAPE

Swedish vapers and snus users have rallied against misconceptions surrounding smokeless tobacco products like snus. Advocates argue these alternatives are crucial in reducing harm compared to smoking, pointing to Sweden’s low smoking rates as evidence. However, critics and health officials remain cautious, citing concerns over addiction and potential health risks associated with long-term use. The controversy highlights ongoing debates in public health over harm reduction strategies and regulatory policies, illustrating the complex landscape of tobacco control efforts worldwide.

The Australian government has watered down its latest vaping restrictions, which would have required adults to obtain a prescription to buy vapes from pharmacies. The country is still set to become the first to ban vape sales outside of pharmacies but, following pressure from the Greens, the ruling Labor government has dropped the requirement for a prescription. Health Minister Mark Butler said his country’s ‘world-leading laws’ would return vapes to their original purpose ‘as therapeutic products to help hardened smokers kick the habit’.

Q. What do young Australian adults and young kangaroos have in common?

A. They both like pouches.

An unintended consequence of Australia’s draconian clampdown on vaping, is a massive demand for nicotine pouches instead. As the country’s Border Force agents target illegal vape imports, they have found that huge numbers of nicotine pouches – which are also illegal – are now coming in. More than 1.3M pouches have been seized so far this year; ten times more than the numbers detected in the last two years.

The UK government won’t be taking further action on the proposed Tobacco and Vapes Bill, making the bill unable to go to Parliament before the general election.

n a recent turn of events, the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in the UK is facing uncertainty as it appears unlikely to pass before the upcoming general election in July.

This development has sparked varied reactions, especially among proponents of vaping and e-cigarettes, who view this delay as both a setback and an opportunity.

The proposed bill, aimed at regulating tobacco and vaping products more rigorously, has been a contentious topic in public health discourse.

Advocates of vaping argue that e-cigarettes offer a less harmful alternative to traditional smoking, potentially aiding smokers in quitting altogether.

They emphasise the role of vaping in harm reduction strategies and cite evidence suggesting its effectiveness in smoking cessation.

For vaping and e-cigarette advocates, the delay in passing the bill represents a temporary reprieve from what they perceive as overly restrictive measures that could stifle access to safer alternatives for smokers.

They argue that stringent regulations could limit consumer choice and make it harder for smokers to transition away from conventional cigarettes.

Furthermore, advocates stress the importance of evidence-based policymaking, urging lawmakers to consider the latest research on vaping’s impact on public health.

They highlight studies indicating that vaping is significantly less harmful than smoking and could contribute to reducing smoking-related diseases and healthcare costs in the long term.

However, critics of vaping express concerns about the potential health risks associated with e-cigarette use, particularly among young people.

They argue that strict regulations are necessary to prevent youth initiation and protect public health.

These concerns have fuelled the debate surrounding the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, making it a focal point in the broader conversation on tobacco control and harm reduction policies.

As the bill’s future hangs in the balance, stakeholders on both sides of the debate await further developments with keen interest.

Vaping and e-cigarette advocates continue to push for policies that prioritize harm reduction and access to safer alternatives for smokers.

They hope that lawmakers will consider the potential benefits of vaping in reducing smoking rates and improving public health outcomes.

Our industry faces a predicted over £1 billion loss due to the government’s ban on disposable vaping products.

Words: Oliver Smith

he vaping industry is set to undergo a significant financial hit, with over £1 billion expected to be erased following the UK government’s ban on the sale of disposable e-cigarettes.

This decision, aimed at reducing youth vaping rates and environmental impact, marks a pivotal moment for the industry, triggering widespread repercussions across manufacturers, retailers, and consumers alike.

The ban, scheduled to come into effect in October, targets single-use vape devices that have gained popularity due to their convenience and ease of use.

While intended to curb underage vaping, the move has sparked concerns among businesses reliant on disposable products as a significant revenue stream.

Industry leaders predict a sharp decline in sales and profitability, potentially leading to job losses and economic strain within the sector.

Market analysts have already begun to revise their forecasts downward, anticipating a substantial dent in the vaping industry’s growth trajectory.

Muntazir Dipoti, the National President of the Federation of the Independent Retailers, said: “While we agree that action is needed to prevent children and young people being attracted to vaping, we do not believe that banning disposable vapes is the way to go about it.

“An outright ban will simply send youngsters towards unorthodox and illicit sources where there is no compliance to tobacco and vaping laws, while the products they peddle are likely to contain dangerous and illegal levels of toxic chemicals.

“Disposable vapes are usually more affordable and, as such, are a bigger incentive for adult smokers to change to vapes.”

The ban not only impacts sales but also raises questions about the future viability of companies heavily invested in disposable vaping products.

As businesses scramble to adapt, some may pivot towards refillable and rechargeable alternatives, which remain unaffected by the upcoming regulations.

Moreover, the ban’s economic ramifications extend beyond individual companies to encompass broader implications for suppliers, distributors, and ancillary service providers within the vaping ecosystem.

The sudden contraction in demand for disposable e-cigarettes could ripple through the supply chain, affecting everything from manufacturing capacities to retail operations.

Consumer behaviour is also expected to undergo a transformation as a result of the ban.

Vapers accustomed to disposable devices may explore alternative options or abandon vaping altogether, further complicating the industry’s recovery prospects.

Regulatory uncertainty and shifting consumer preferences pose formidable challenges for stakeholders navigating this evolving landscape.

In response to these challenges, industry advocates have voiced concerns about the ban’s potential unintended consequences, including an underground market for banned products and increased regulatory scrutiny on remaining vaping products.

The long-term impact on public health and environmental sustainability remains a subject of debate, with proponents of the ban emphasizing its role in safeguarding youth while critics argue for more balanced regulatory measures.

As stakeholders brace for the ban’s implementation, the vaping industry finds itself at a crossroads, navigating a complex terrain of regulatory compliance, economic restructuring, and shifting market dynamics.

The coming months will reveal the full extent of the ban’s impact, shaping the future trajectory of vaping in the UK and beyond.

AN OUTRIGHT BAN WILL SIMPLY SEND YOUNGSTERS TOWARDS UNORTHODOX AND ILLICIT SOURCES WHERE THERE IS NO COMPLIANCE TO TOBACCO AND VAPING LAWS.

The Advertising Standards Authority has shown its strength after issuing a ruling against a vaping company, determining that iVape London violated its advertising regulations.

Words: Oliver Smith

IN A RECENT RULING, THE ADVERTISING STANDARDS AUTHORITY (ASA) HAS CLAMPED DOWN ON EMAIL PROMOTIONS BY

VAPE COMPANIES,

The email in question featured a subject line that enticed recipients with, “Unwrap Your Savings! Get an exclusive offer on all Vape Kits,” and included promotional language urging quick action: “Act fast, this special deal is valid for ONLY 24 Hours.”

Accompanying the text were images and prices for six different vape kits, clearly aiming to drive immediate sales.

The complaint was lodged by an anonymous individual who argued that the promotion of nicotine-containing e-cigarettes via electronic media violated existing advertising codes.

The ASA, which oversees adherence to these regulations, reached out to iVape London for their response.

However, iVape did not respond to the ASA's inquiry.

Due to the lack of response, the ASA proceeded with the assessment independently and expressed concern over iVape London's disregard for the code and the ASA’s processes. This non-compliance was deemed a breach of CAP Code rule 1.7, which deals with unreasonable delay and lack of cooperation.

The ruling cited the CAP Code and the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016 (TRPR), which prohibit advertising unlicensed nicotine-containing e-cigarettes in certain media, including online and other electronic media.

While factual information about such products is allowed on marketers' own websites, promotional content is strictly forbidden in paid or unsolicited communications.

The ASA's decision underscored that the promotional nature of iVape London’s email was in direct violation of these rules.

The email highlighted vape kits that could be used with nicotine-containing e-liquids, thereby promoting nicotine-containing

e-cigarettes rather than merely providing factual information.

As a result, the ASA ordered that the email advertisement must not be used again and reinforced the prohibition against promoting nicotine-containing e-cigarettes in emails.

The ruling serves as a stern reminder to all vape retailers about the new stringent regulations governing the advertising of their products.

This decision marks an important development in the ongoing effort to regulate the marketing of e-cigarettes, ensuring that advertising practices align with public health standards.

The ASA's firm stance on this issue highlights the regulatory body's commitment to upholding the advertising codes and protecting consumers from potentially misleading promotions.

For vape companies, this ruling signals a need to reassess their marketing strategies and ensure compliance with advertising regulations to avoid similar repercussions.

Vapers travelling to Germany for Euro 2024 have been advised against bringing their devices into stadiums throughout the tournament.

German authorities have issued a stern warning to football fans planning to attend UEFA Euro 2024: vaping devices and e-liquids are strictly banned in stadiums.

This announcement aims to ensure that fans are well-informed and can avoid any legal troubles or disruptions during the tournament.

Vaping, while legal in Germany, faces stringent restrictions within the confines of sports venues.

This prohibition aligns with the comprehensive list of banned items, which includes weapons, flares, and other potentially disruptive objects.

German law enforcement and stadium security are taking these regulations seriously, and any violations could lead to severe consequences.

Dan Marchant, director of Vape Club, has been vocal about this issue, urging fans to respect the rules set forth by the tournament organizers.

He emphasised the importance of awareness and compliance to avoid any unpleasant situations.

Marchant said: "Fans need to be aware that although vaping is generally accepted in many places in Germany, football stadiums during the Euros are an exception.

"The last thing anyone wants is for their day to be ruined because they were unaware of these regulations."

The implications of violating these bans can be severe…fans caught with vaping devices or e-liquids could face immediate expulsion from the stadium, police reports, or even bans from attending future matches.

These penalties underscore the zero-tolerance policy that will be in effect throughout the tournament.

To navigate these restrictions, Marchant advises fans to thoroughly check stadiumspecific policies before attending matches. He noted that while some venues might have designated smoking areas, these are not guaranteed to allow vaping.

Continuing on, he said: "It's crucial for fans to do their homework.

"Check the specific regulations for each stadium and make sure you're not carrying anything that's on the prohibited list."

The warning also highlights a broader effort to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees.

With thousands of fans expected to flock to Germany for Euro 2024, maintaining order and minimizing disruptions is a top priority for organisers.

The ban on vaping devices is part of a larger strategy to create a safe and pleasant environment for everyone involved.

Marchant’s advice to fans is clear: "Leave your vaping devices at home or in your hotel. It’s not worth the risk of getting into trouble. Enjoy the football, support your team, but do it within the rules."

LABOUR’S SMOKEFREE

FUTURE

The Labour party has promised to ban smoking for younger generations if they are successful in the upcoming General Election.

n a bold public health move, the UK’s Labour Party has pledged to prohibit smoking for younger generations if they secure victory in the upcoming General Election.

This initiative, aimed at eradicating smokingrelated illnesses and curbing nicotine addiction among the youth, was articulated by Labour’s health spokesperson Wes Streeting.

This policy forms part of Labour’s broader health strategy to improve the nation’s well-being.

Streeting highlighted that preventing young people from taking up smoking is critical to reducing the burden of smoking-related diseases on the National Health Service (NHS).

In the party’s manifesto it described the move to ban, saying: “We must take preventative public health measures to tackle the biggest killers and support people to live longer, healthier lives. That starts with smoking.

“Labour will ensure the next generation can never legally buy cigarettes...Labour will ban

vapes from being branded and advertised to appeal to children to stop the next generation from becoming hooked on nicotine.”

The proposed ban would mean that anyone born after a certain year would be prohibited from purchasing cigarettes, effectively phasing out smoking as the older population ages.

This announcement is part of Labour’s broader vision for the future of UK healthcare, emphasising prevention and the importance of a healthy start for younger generations.

As the General Election approaches, this promise will likely be a significant talking point, reflecting Labour’s commitment to bold and proactive health policies.

Labour’s health strategy includes a comprehensive plan to boost the NHS, focusing on reducing waiting times, improving services, and increasing staffing levels.

By tackling smoking, Labour aims to alleviate one of the significant pressures on the NHS: smoking-related illnesses, which currently cost the service billions annually.

WE MUST TAKE PREVENTATIVE PUBLIC HEALTH MEASURES TO TACKLE THE BIGGEST KILLERS AND SUPPORT PEOPLE TO LIVE LONGER, HEALTHIER LIVES. THAT STARTS WITH SMOKING.

Streeting articulated that by implementing such preventive measures, the Labour Party intends to ‘give our children the best start in life’ and protect them from the dangers of smoking.

The proposed smoking ban has sparked a range of reactions, with public health experts and antismoking advocates lauded the move, seeing it as a necessary step towards a smoke-free generation.

However, many critics argue that the ban might lead to a black market for cigarettes, complicating enforcement efforts and potentially undermining public trust.

This policy echoes a similar initiative already in place in New Zealand, where the government has set forth a progressive ban on tobacco sales to anyone born after 2008.

Labour’s proposed smoking ban demonstrates a commitment to public health that prioritises prevention and seeks to eliminate one of the leading causes of preventable illness and death.

HONG KONG’S VAPE ESCAPE

The Hong Kong health secretary announced a plan for the region to ban the personal use and possession of vaping and heated tobacco devices

Words: Oliver Smith

fter previously banning the sale of vaping products, Hong Kong is now proposing to extend this prohibition to include personal use.

This new initiative reflects a growing concern about the health impacts of vaping and a desire to curb the usage of e-cigarettes among the population.

Hong Kong’s legislative council is considering a bill that would criminalize the possession and use of vaping products.

This move is seen as a stringent extension of the existing ban on the import, manufacture, sale, and distribution of e-cigarettes, which has been in effect since April 2022.

Authorities argue that e-cigarettes, despite being marketed as a safer alternative to traditional smoking, still pose significant health risks.

There is particular concern about the increasing popularity of vaping among young people.

Health experts in Hong Kong have pointed out that the chemicals used in e-cigarettes can be harmful and that there is insufficient evidence to support claims that they help in smoking cessation.

Critics of the ban argue that such draconian measures could drive the vaping market underground, leading to a black market for e-cigarettes.

They also contend that the ban could deprive smokers of a potentially less harmful alternative to traditional cigarettes.

Despite these criticisms, the Hong Kong government remains firm in its stance, citing studies that show the potential longterm health effects of vaping are not fully understood.

If the bill passes, individuals found using or possessing vaping devices could face severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment.

This proposed ban is part of a broader trend in Asia where several countries, including Thailand and India, have implemented strict regulations on vaping.

THEY WANT

WHAT?

Dutch health authorities raised eyebrows after they announced a call to policymakers to standardise its vaping products.

n a recent move to curb youth vaping, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has proposed standardising the design and functionality of e-cigarettes.

This proposal, outlined in a report titled ‘Options for reducing the attractiveness of e-cigarettes through adjustments to their appearance and function,’ aims to make these products less appealing to young people by simplifying their designs.

However, this move has sparked significant debate and criticism from the vaping community and industry stakeholders who argue that such measures are unnecessary and could hinder adult smokers looking for less harmful alternatives.

Advocates believe that the diversity of the e-cigarette market plays a crucial role in helping smokers transition away from traditional cigarettes.

By offering a range of options, manufacturers cater to the varying needs and preferences of adult users, ensuring that there is a suitable product for everyone.

Many vapers argue that standardising the design would limit these choices, potentially discouraging smokers from making the switch to vaping.

Furthermore, there is concern that the proposed regulations could stifle innovation within the vaping industry.

The RIVM’s proposal also raises questions about personal freedom and consumer choice.

Many adult vapers feel that they should have the right to choose products that best meet their needs and preferences.

E-cigarettes have evolved significantly over the years, with advancements in technology leading to more effective and satisfying products for users.

By imposing rigid design standards, the RIVM could inadvertently halt progress and prevent the development of new, improved devices that could further support smoking cessation efforts.

Another point of contention is the lack of clear evidence that standardising e-cigarette designs will effectively reduce youth vaping.

Critics argue that young people are drawn to e-cigarettes primarily because of the nicotine and the perception of a safer alternative to smoking, rather than the design features.

Moreover, industry stakeholders highlight the potential economic impact of the proposed regulations.

The vaping industry has grown substantially, providing jobs and contributing to the economy.

Stricter regulations could lead to reduced sales, business closures, and job losses, affecting not only manufacturers but also retailers and suppliers.

REDEFINES VAPING

As a few questions of stagnation arise in our industry, Innokin has taking it upon themselves to make the next big step in vaping innovation.

Words: Oliver Smith

WITH THE NEVER-ENDING DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION IN OUR MAGNIFICENT INDUSTRY, IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL

TRADITIONAL POD DEVICES WERE REDEFINED.

Since being founded in 2011, Innokin has been a leader in the industry always striving and pushing for innovative technologies.

Their latest device, the Trine is no exception to this long-lasting success, with Innokin hopeful that this groundbreaking product could help shift the industry onto a better path.

The Trine, unveiled earlier this year, is a redefined approach to vaping devices with a new unique 3-in-1 structure…moving away from the traditional model.

This device is the first from Innokin’s new family of ‘Trine’ products, which have an innovation-led design with sustainability and performance in mind.

The device is compatible with the three Innokin ‘VCAP’ pods, coming in 0.6ohm, 0.8ohm, and 1.2ohm, they are all colour coded so the user can easily see which they have loaded in their device.

Innokin has developed the Trine to feature a removable battery device for pod systems that will significantly enhance reusability.

Usually with pod devices, after a certain time the battery fitted will start to drop in output and will eventually die.

However, with the Trine device, all the user has to do is push two tabs to release the used 1000mAh battery from the units shell and swap it out for a brand new one.

By swapping spent batteries out, this extends the life cycle of the Trine device far beyond that of an individual battery product while also enabling safe recycling.

With safe recycling, there has been an environmental focus in the development of this product, with the ever growing news of looming bans and prohibition.

The Trine ensures an ‘eco-safe’ battery disposal every time by integrating their new EcoDrain technology to the devices.

This ultimately ends the known challenges associated with waste companies handling discarded lithium-ion batteries, ensuring safe battery discharge before recycling.

Innokin’s Trine is an innovative approach to the vaping experience that also aligns with the upcoming EU battery regulations, that

With that now behind us, and as Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Government settles into office, I don’t expect the lull to last too much longer.

There is still the disposables ban on the horizon and the massively flawed Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which was stopped in its tracks by the election, is likely to be brought back before MPs during the lifetime of this current administration.

This was a Rishi Sunak vanity project which was flawed from the outset and rushed through with indecent haste.

Labour now has the opportunity to correct this by making sensible amendments to the bill before it is re-introduced so that a more considered approach is given to such a critical piece of legislation.

Labour must also resist the previous administration’s mistake of packing the committee scrutinising the bill with supporters only and should instead allow the vape industry’s views to be heard.

Its approach to vaping will cut across many other areas of party policy with impacts felt across health outcomes, tax revenue, the environment and the wider economy.

If it gets it wrong by banning flavours, imposing punitive vape taxes or forcing retailers to hide vapes away like cigarettes, then it could destroy the entire industry.

This would see a dramatic rise in smoking rates, worse health outcomes for millions of people and economic devastation as vape shops are forced out of business.

Getting vape regulation wrong would also fuel the black market and see the country flooded with record numbers of unregulated, untested and potentially unsafe products.

We know how badly underfunded Trading Standards departments are as they struggle to enforce existing regulations.

The UKVIA wants the UK to have a strong and flourishing vape industry where adult smokers can access the best products to help them quit cigarettes, while also being environmentally-responsible and successfully tackling youth vaping.

We want to work with government to put an end, once and for all, to packaging which appeals to children so that cartoon characters and child-friendly flavour descriptions become a thing of the past.

There is also widespread support throughout the vape industry for a new vape licensing scheme which would fund Trading Standards to the tune of £50M-a-year to clamp down hard on those who sell illegal products or sell to children.

Enforcement only works when backed up by sanctions which deter law breaking, which is why the UKVIA wants to see fines of up to £10,000 per instance for these offences. No one will risk selling a vape to children if they risk losing their licence and are hit with a five figure fine.

Finally, I want to remind Wes Streeting that I am still available to take him up on his offer to meet me and I can’t think of a better time than now because how Labour approaches vape regulations could mean the difference between life and death for millions of adults.

GETTING VAPE REGULATION WRONG WOULD FUEL THE BLACK MARKET AND SEE THE COUNTRY FLOODED WITH RECORD NUMBERS OF UNREGULATED, UNTESTED

AND POTENTIALLY UNSAFE PRODUCTS.

ASH Scotland’s anti-vaping position is increasingly coming into question with their overall objective to stop cigarette smoking.

Words: Oliver Smith

ction on Smoking and Health (ASH) Scotland’s recent stance against vaping has stirred significant controversy, highlighting a growing disconnect between their anti-vaping position and their overarching goal to eradicate smoking.

This contradiction is particularly evident given the substantial evidence supporting vaping as a highly effective smoking cessation tool.

The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) has been vocal about this inconsistency, pointing out that ASH Scotland’s position appears increasingly irrational.

John Dunne, Director General of UKVIA, criticised ASH Scotland for attempting to undermine his testimony before a Scottish Parliamentary Committee.

He said: “Just before I gave evidence to a Scottish Parliamentary Committee, ASH Scotland tried to have me cancelled.

“Despite vaping being the most effective way to quit cigarettes, by some margin, ASH Scotland find their commitment to getting rid of cigarettes conflicted by Sheila Duffy’s irrational dislike of vapes.”

Dunne noted that despite the UKVIA’s clear stance against tobacco company involvement, ASH Scotland continues to propagate outdated and inaccurate claims regarding the vaping industry.

This friction underscores a significant rift between ASH Scotland and other health organisations, including ASH UK, which have recognized the benefits of vaping in reducing smoking rates.

ASH UK’s pragmatic approach contrasts sharply with ASH Scotland’s stringent and arguably counterproductive anti-vaping campaign.

This divergence raises questions about the efficacy and intentions behind ASH Scotland’s policies, as they appear to undermine a key smoking cessation method that could potentially save thousands of lives.

The criticism from UKVIA extends beyond ASH Scotland’s actions to the broader implications for public health policy.

The association highlights the importance of informed and balanced perspectives in shaping health interventions.

They argue that demonising vaping, despite its proven effectiveness, only serves to hinder progress in reducing smoking-related harm.

This point is bolstered by data indicating that vaping has significantly contributed to declines in smoking rates, suggesting that restrictive policies against vaping may inadvertently sustain higher smoking rates.

Moreover, UKVIA has emphasised the importance of constructive dialogue between health organisations and the vaping industry to ensure that public health policies are both effective and evidence based.

This approach contrasts with ASH Scotland’s more adversarial tactics, which UKVIA argues are not only unproductive but potentially harmful to public health goals.

The controversy surrounding ASH Scotland’s antivaping stance thus highlights a critical juncture in public health policy.

The growing body of evidence supporting vaping as a smoking cessation tool calls for a reassessment of strategies that prioritise ideological positions over empirical data.

Health organisations must navigate these complexities to develop policies that genuinely serve the public good, rather than adhering to outdated or biased perspectives.

IT’S GETTING NOW Boring

Time and time again the vaping industry has been subject to attacks from the World Health Organzation… with the latest ‘hit-out’ being nothing new to advocates.

Words: Oliver Smith

The World Health Organization (WHO) has once again voiced its opposition to vaping, taking a problematic stance against an alternative that many experts consider a safer option for smokers seeking to quit.

This recent critique underscores a conflicting approach by the WHO, considering its past acknowledgment of vaping as a viable harm reduction tool.

The WHO's current position highlights potential health risks associated with vaping and advocates for stricter regulations, including comprehensive bans on e-cigarettes and similar products.

They cite concerns over safety, particularly for young people and non-smokers…however, this stance overlooks significant evidence and expert opinions that present vaping as a substantially less harmful alternative to traditional smoking.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO Director-General, said: “These industries are actively targeting schools, children and young people with new products that are essentially a candy-flavoured trap.

“How can they talk about harm reduction when they are marketing these dangerous, highlyaddictive products to children?”

In the past, the WHO has recognized the benefits of vaping as a tool for smoking cessation.

Numerous studies have shown that e-cigarettes can be an effective aid for smokers who are trying to quit.

Public Health England, for instance, has repeatedly emphasised that vaping is at least 95 percent less harmful than smoking and has urged smokers to switch to e-cigarettes to reduce health risks.

The inconsistency in the WHO's stance is troubling…while the organisation has acknowledged the potential of vaping to reduce smoking-related harm, its recent actions suggest a departure from this perspective.

This shift could have detrimental effects on public health, particularly for smokers who might benefit from transitioning to vaping.

Critics argue that the WHO's current approach could deter smokers from using e-cigarettes as a quitting aid, potentially keeping them hooked on more harmful traditional cigarettes.

The organization's call for stricter regulations and bans on vaping products may create barriers for smokers seeking safer alternatives,

HOW CAN THEY TALK ABOUT HARM REDUCTION WHEN THEY ARE MARKETING THESE DANGEROUS, HIGHLY-ADDICTIVE PRODUCTS TO CHILDREN? “

ultimately undermining efforts to reduce smoking-related diseases and deaths.

E-cigarettes provide a way to satisfy nicotine cravings without the harmful tar and chemicals found in combustible cigarettes.

For many smokers, switching to vaping has resulted in significant health improvements, including better lung function and a reduced risk of heart disease and cancer.

Public health experts advocate for a balanced approach to vaping regulation…one that acknowledges the risks while also recognising the potential benefits for smokers trying to quit.

Striking this balance is crucial for ensuring that smokers have access to safer alternatives while protecting non-smokers and young people from potential harms.

By focusing predominantly on the potential risks of vaping without adequately considering the harm reduction benefits, the organisation may inadvertently discourage smokers from making the switch.

This could have far-reaching implications for global public health, as smoking remains one of the leading causes of preventable deaths worldwide.

WILL THE NEW GOVERNMENT CARRY OVER THE ‘TOBACCO AND VAPES BILL’ AND BAN SMOKING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE?

s the UK braces for the shift to a new government, many are speculating about the future of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.

This bill, designed to ban smoking for the next generation, has sparked significant debate.

The question on everyone’s lips is whether the incoming administration will carry the torch or let the flame of this progressive initiative extinguish.

The ‘Tobacco and Vapes Bill’ aims to curb smoking among young people by implementing strict measures on tobacco and vape sales.

The goal is to create a smoke-free generation, thereby reducing the health burdens associated with smoking.

This initiative aligns with the broader public health agenda, seeking to diminish the prevalence of smoking-related diseases and the associated economic costs.

Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting has been a vocal advocate for the proposed opposition bill.

He has consistently highlighted the detrimental effects of smoking on public health and the NHS.

Streeting’s position is clear…the government has a moral obligation to protect young people from the harms of smoking.

In previous comments, he emphasised, “If we are serious about reducing health inequalities, we must tackle smoking head-on…the Tobacco and Vapes Bill is a crucial step in that direction.”

The new government faces a critical decision: whether to continue with the policies set in motion or to chart a new course.

This decision will be influenced by multiple factors, including political will, public opinion, and the influence of lobbying groups.

The tobacco industry is a significant contributor to the economy through taxes and employment…however, the long-term health benefits of reducing smoking prevalence arguably outweigh the short-term economic gains.

Public support for the bill is mixed, while many health professionals and advocacy groups support the initiative, some segments of the public view it as an overreach of government authority.

The new government will need to assess whether they have the political capital to push through such a contentious bill.

Given the current political climate, with numerous pressing issues on the agenda, there may be reluctance to prioritize the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.

The decision on whether to carry over the ‘Tobacco and Vapes Bill’ extends beyond public health.

Upholding the bill would signal a dedication to what the government believes are preventive health measures and a willingness to make tough decisions for the greater good.

As the UK transitions to a new government, the fate of the ‘Tobacco and Vapes Bill’ hangs in the balance.

The new administration’s decision will reveal much about their approach to health policy and their commitment to the welfare of future generations.

Will

they seize the opportunity to create what they believe to be a healthier, smoke-free future despite overlooking smokers and vapes lives, or will they succumb to the opposing argument with the freedom of choice?

IF WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT REDUCING HEALTH INEQUALITIES, WE MUST TACKLE SMOKING HEAD-ON… THE TOBACCO AND VAPES BILL IS A CRUCIAL STEP IN THAT DIRECTION.

SEE SOME SENSE

Ahead of the General Election, the IBVTA has come out to push the British political parties into acknowledging the benefits of vaping over conventional cigarettes.

Words: Oliver Smith

EVERY POLITICAL PARTY NEEDS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION

THE MASSIVE OPPORTUNITY THAT VAPING REPRESENTS IN TERMS OF IMPROVING PUBLIC HEALTH.

The Independent British Vape Trade Association (IBVTA) has made a strong appeal to political parties, urging them to recognise the potential health benefits of vaping compared to smoking.

This appeal is part of the IBVTA’s Responsible Vaping Manifesto, which presents a comprehensive approach to regulating the vaping industry with a focus on public health.

Gillian Golden, the CEO for IBVTA said: “As a nonpolitical trade body, we don’t endorse any particular political party or candidate.

“Every political party needs to take into consideration the massive opportunity that vaping represents in terms of improving public health.

“In England alone, research points to vapes having helped in the region of 30,000 to 50,000 additional smokers to successfully quit each year since 2013.”

Firstly, the IBVTA underscores the necessity to treat vaping differently from smoking.

Despite both being addictive, vaping is considerably less harmful.

Proper regulation should be based on substantial evidence and consider the broader public health impacts of interventions such as packaging, flavours, and display.

The IBVTA emphasises the need for balanced regulations that reflect the significantly lower harm posed by vaping compared to smoking.

A major point highlighted by the IBVTA is the widespread misconception among adult smokers that vaping is as harmful as smoking.

The manifesto calls for accurate information to be disseminated to adult smokers, particularly those struggling to quit smoking.

It is crucial to ensure that public health campaigns effectively communicate the relative safety of vaping to encourage smokers to make the switch.

Flavours play a vital role in helping adults transition from smoking to vaping…contrary to the belief that flavours are designed to attract young people into a lifelong habit of nicotine.

Surveys indicate that many adult vapers use fruit flavours regularly, which aids in reducing smoking or preventing relapse.

The IBVTA advocates for responsible marketing of flavours and cautions against regulations that could undermine their availability to adult vapers.

The IBVTA warns that banning these products without considering consumer behaviour and the illicit market could have unintended consequences.

They stress the importance of a balanced approach that maintains ease of use and affordability for consumers while ensuring environmental compliance.

The compliant sector’s investment in meeting environmental targets should be recognised in any regulatory framework.

A significant portion of the market consists of unregulated and unsafe illicit vapes, the association calls for a comprehensive enforcement strategy, including a retail licensing scheme and stringent penalties for those involved in the illicit trade.

This approach aims to protect consumer safety and ensure that legitimate businesses can thrive under fair regulations.

Finally, the IBVTA discusses the tax burden on vapes, advocating for a flat rate of duty across all nicotine strengths.

This approach, used in other European countries, would help meet the needs of smokers looking to quit while addressing the environmental impact of vaping waste streams.

The current proposals for a multi-tier tax based on nicotine strength do not adequately consider these factors, potentially hindering public health goals.

The IBVTA’s manifesto calls for evidence-based regulation that supports public health, encourages smoking cessation, and addresses the challenges posed by the legitimate and illicit vape markets.

For further details, you can refer to the full manifesto and related discussions on the IBVTA’s official website and other industry news platforms.

“Won’t somebody think of the children!”

An open letter from 78 health organisations is calling for the US government to increase enforcement on flavoured nicotine products.

he Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, alongside various health organisations, is ramping up pressure on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to enforce stricter regulations on flavoured vaping products.

These groups argue that flavoured vapes are enticing to young people and contribute to the growing epidemic of youth vaping.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, supported by other health advocacy groups, has issued a strong demand for the FDA to take decisive action against flavoured e-cigarettes.

They are urging the agency to implement and enforce bans on all flavoured vaping products, which they believe are designed to appeal to children and teenagers.

This call comes in response to data indicating a surge in youth vaping rates, which these groups attribute to the availability of flavours like fruit, candy, and mint.

The 2020 National Youth Tobacco Survey found that 85 percent of young e-cigarette users reported using flavoured products.

Advocates argue that these flavours mask the harshness of nicotine, making it easier for young people to start vaping and potentially leading to nicotine addiction.

The Campaign for TobaccoFree Kids and its allies believe that eliminating flavoured vapes is crucial to reducing youth vaping rates and preventing a new generation from becoming addicted to nicotine.

Despite the clear call for action, there are significant challenges in regulating and enforcing a ban on flavoured vapes.

The FDA has faced criticism for its slow response and perceived leniency towards the vaping industry.

While the agency has taken steps to regulate e-cigarettes, including banning certain flavours in cartridgebased systems, many flavoured

products remain available in disposable vapes and refillable systems.

The advocacy groups are calling for a comprehensive ban that closes these loopholes and ensures that all flavoured vaping products are removed from the market.

The vaping industry has pushed back against these demands, arguing that flavoured vapes are an important tool for adult smokers looking to quit traditional cigarettes.

They claim that flavours help smokers transition away from tobacco by providing a more appealing alternative.

Industry representatives also argue that a blanket ban on flavoured vapes could drive former smokers back to traditional cigarettes or to a black market for vaping products, both of which could have negative public health consequences.

Health advocates counter the industry’s arguments by emphasising the public health risks posed by youth vaping.

They argue that the potential benefits of flavoured vapes for adult smokers do not outweigh the risks to young people.

The rise in youth vaping has been described as an epidemic by health officials, and there is a strong consensus among public health experts that decisive action is needed to curb this trend.

The FDA is under increasing pressure to respond to these demands and implement stricter regulations on flavoured vaping products.

The outcome of this regulatory push could have significant implications for the vaping industry, public health, and efforts to reduce youth nicotine addiction.

As the debate continues, both sides remain steadfast in their positions, highlighting the complexity of balancing harm reduction for adult smokers with the need to protect young people from nicotine.

THE STRONGER THE STRENGTH… THE STRONGER THE CHARGE

The UKVIA has predicted that a 3000% increase in vaping product prices could have a detrimental impact on smokers

Words: Oliver Smith

he UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) has raised alarms over the government’s proposed plan to tax e-cigarettes based on their nicotine content.

This move, they argue, could inadvertently lead to an increase in smoking rates and disproportionately affect lowerincome individuals.

The UK government is considering a tax regime for vaping products that escalates with the nicotine strength.

While this aims to discourage excessive nicotine consumption, UKVIA warns it could have several unintended consequences.

One primary concern is that higher nicotine taxes may make vaping less attractive as a smoking cessation tool.

Many smokers use high-nicotine e-liquids to transition away from traditional cigarettes…if these products become significantly more expensive, it may deter smokers from switching, potentially increasing smoking rates.

Another critical issue highlighted by UKVIA is the economic discrimination inherent in the proposed tax structure.

Low-income smokers are already disproportionately burdened by the high cost of traditional cigarettes.

E-cigarettes have offered a more affordable alternative, helping many reduce or quit smoking altogether.

By increasing the cost of highnicotine vapes, the government risks pricing out those who can least afford it, pushing them back to cheaper, more harmful tobacco products.

The public health implications of this policy could be severe. Vaping is widely recognized as a less harmful alternative to smoking.

Public Health England has stated that e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than traditional cigarettes.

By making vaping less accessible, the proposed tax could undermine public health gains achieved in recent years.

The increase in smoking rates could lead to higher incidences of smoking-related illnesses, straining the NHS and reversing progress in reducing smoking prevalence.

UKVIA has called for a more balanced approach, they suggest that any tax policy should consider the harm reduction potential of vaping.

Instead of a punitive tax on nicotine strength, they advocate for measures that encourage smokers to switch to less harmful alternatives.

This could include public education campaigns about the benefits of vaping over smoking and financial incentives for smokers who make the switch.

The debate over nicotine taxation is part of a broader discussion about how best to regulate vaping products.

Proponents of the tax argue that it could help reduce nicotine addiction, particularly among young people.

However, UKVIA counters that the primary focus should be on adult smokers who are looking to quit.

They argue that well-intentioned policies must not inadvertently drive people back to smoking, which remains the leading cause of preventable death.

TRAVELING

WITH YOUR VAPING DEVICE CAN BE

A BIT OF

A MINEFIELD, ESPECIALLY WHEN VENTURING ABROAD.

Whether you’re jetting off for a quick weekend getaway or a longhaul vacation, being aware of the rules and regulations concerning vaping in different destinations is crucial.

Here’s a rundown of what you need to know to enjoy your vaping experience while traveling.

At airports, vaping is restricted to designated smoking areas, which are increasingly being phased out in some locations.

If you’re facing a long journey, consider alternative nicotine products such as gum, sprays, or patches to manage cravings.

VAPING IN AIRPORTS? BRINGING DEVICES ON PLANES?

First and foremost, while you are allowed to take your vape on a plane, there are strict regulations to follow.

E-liquids can be packed in your hold luggage, but if you want to carry them in your hand luggage, they must be in bottles of no more than 100ml each, clearly marked.

Due to changes in air pressure at cruising altitude, it’s advisable to pack any liquid-containing items in plastic bags to avoid leaks.

Some vaping travellers prefer to just carry a single-use vape to avoid these issues altogether.

Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in vape devices, are prohibited in checked luggage and must be carried in your hand luggage.

CHECK VAPING LAWS OF SPECIFIC COUNTRIES

The legality of vaping varies significantly around the world.

There are several countries where vaping is outright banned, including Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, India, Mexico, Thailand, and others.

Even in countries where vaping is legal, local regulations can be strict, so it’s essential to research your destination’s specific laws and policies.

For example, while Thailand has a complete ban on the sale and use of vape products, vaping is still widespread, and efforts are ongoing to potentially legalise it.

However, it’s best to stay informed and compliant with current laws to avoid legal trouble.

In the UK, vaping is generally accepted, but there are still restrictions, such as in public transport and enclosed public spaces.

In the EU, regulations vary from country to country, with some having stricter rules than others, so it is best to check before travelling to avoid any inconveniences later down the line.

TIPS FOR A SMOOTH EXPERIENCE RESEARCH AHEAD

Always check the latest regulations in your destination country. The Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction’s website is a useful resource.

PACK SMART

Ensure your e-liquids and vape gear are correctly packed according to airline regulations.

A Licence to Money Print

The UKVIA have once again called for an industrywide licencing scheme to help tackle the black market…which would help provide Trading Standards with millions in funds.

Words: Oliver Smith

The

UK Vaping

Industry Association (UKVIA) has recently called for the introduction of a licensing scheme to eradicate the black market in vaping products and address a significant funding shortfall in Trading Standards budgets.

The proposal comes in response to an analysis commissioned by the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS), which identified a need for an additional £168.34 million over five years for effective enforcement of current vaping legislation.

UKVIA’s Director General, John Dunne, emphasised that the vaping industry is unique in advocating for stringent regulation of its own market.

He said: “The ACScommissioned analysis shows that a huge funding boost is needed if we are to rain down on illegal vape sellers with the full force of the nation’s dedicated, but under-resourced, Trading Standards officers.

“A cost that the UK government has yet failed to meet, but one that could be covered by the sector’s comprehensive licensing framework.

This proactive stance aims to ensure accountability among retailers and safeguard consumers from substandard or illicit products.

The proposed licensing scheme would not only generate necessary funding but also enhance enforcement capabilities without placing additional financial burdens on taxpayers.

The licensing scheme is projected to generate over £50 million annually, which would be directed towards bolstering Trading Standards’ enforcement efforts.

This funding model aims to create a self-sustaining mechanism where the industry itself contributes to

the regulatory framework, ensuring comprehensive oversight and reducing the prevalence of illegal vape sales.

In addition to the licensing proposal, UKVIA launched the “Be Vape Vigilant” campaign last year.

This initiative encourages the public to report suspicious vape sales, thereby supporting enforcement agencies in their efforts to crack down on illicit activities.

The campaign is part of a broader strategy to engage consumers and stakeholders in maintaining the integrity of the vaping market.

UKVIA’s call for licensing and increased enforcement comes amid growing concerns about the health risks associated with counterfeit and unregulated vaping products.

The black market not only undermines legitimate businesses but also poses significant health risks to consumers.

By advocating for stringent regulation and robust enforcement, UKVIA aims to protect both consumers and the industry’s reputation.

Furthermore, the proposed licensing system would impose substantial penalties on retailers who fail to comply with the regulations.

These penalties are designed to act as a deterrent, ensuring that only legitimate and compliant businesses operate within the market.

The goal is to create a level playing field where lawabiding retailers can thrive without being undercut by those selling illicit products.

“The

ACS-commissioned analysis shows that a huge funding boost is needed if we are to rain down on illegal vape sellers with the full force of the nation’s dedicated, but under-resourced, Trading Standards officers.”

Lemon Mint

Intense, fresh and wonderfully complex, the precise combination of fruity citrus notes and an aromatic garden mint flavour provides a unique vaping experience.

The slightly sharp edge of lemon presents itself with a floral twist, giving a distinctive take on an otherwise common flavour element.

For me, the addition of mint gave an unmatched freshness to the overall flavour, whilst providing a cool undertone with the slightest touch of herbal garden mint.

I personally enjoyed this disposable, granted it is not my usual ‘go to’ profile, but thanks to its relatively uncommon mixture of flavours, this unique take was very well received.

White Gummy

Classic in flavour, flawless in execution, this flavour crafted by Flonq is fabulously nostalgic, hitting the characteristic taste of gummy bears perfectly.

Sweet and well rounded, it was ever so easy to recognise the sugary goodness we all know and love.

To me, the candy notes leant towards a tropical mixture of fruits with a heavy influence of pineapple.

Brightening the overall candy flavour comes a mellow and subtle hit of iciness, giving this disposable another layer of refreshment and intricacy.

I would definitively say that the distinct accuracy of this flavour was where this disposable shone brightest. Enjoyable, fresh and tasty, I feel many will connect with this flavour.

Passion Fruit Icy

Oozing with tastes of the tropics, the passion fruit element in this disposable is simply sublime, full of life and vigour.

It manages to encapsulate both the sharp sourness and bright, satisfying sweetness found in the actual fruit.

Joining the fruity notes comes a bold and substantial punch of cooling agent, giving a solid platform on which the passion fruit notes can flourish.

Despite its richness and similarity to the real-life fruit, this disposable is blissfully straightforward in terms of constituents…in the most positive way of course.

I feel like Flonq have kept things simple, and have focussed solely on creating a stellar flavour.

Strawberry Banana

One of my all time favourite flavour combinations within the vape industry, I was intrigued to see how Flonq would fare when it came to executing their own version of this incredibly popular profile.

On the initial inhale comes a sweet, mellow and delicate note of freshly picked strawberry, which to me came across as incredibly life like and somewhat relaxed in nature.

Complimenting the bright notes of strawberry, you will easily notice a creamy calmness of mashed bananas.

The choice to keep a collection of gentle elements, with a tiny kick of coolness was a brilliant decision on Flonq’s behalf, and they achieved a deep, enjoyable and easy to vape flavour.

Peach Icy

With a hefty dose of cooling agent from the get go, you can expect a bright and full tasting vaping experience.

Presenting the distinctive and instantly recognisable punchy taste of fresh, juicy peach, you’ll be in vape heaven in no time.

Personally, I found that the multilayered notes

of peach had their own complexities, and I felt like it included both real and artificial tastes. When I say artificial, I don’t mean it in a dismissive way, I felt that the artificiality came across as similar to peach gummy candies… something I could totally get behind.

The amalgamation of realistic and synthetic peach flavours gave this disposable a unique and welcomed take on a super popular profile.

Sour Apple Icy

Self explanatory in its name, this disposable harnesses a collection of tastes, ranging from Granny Smith apples to tongue tingling sour candies, all swept up by an intense iciness.

I found that the sourness conveyed in this disposable was next level, I could literally feel the sensation on my tongue as I was vaping.

The apple notes are bright and well rounded, with just a touch of sweetness, thus creating an easy to use all day vape.

As indicated in this flavours name, you will definitely pick up on a tsunami of cooling agent throughout, something that elevated the already fresh feeling of this disposable.

Being one of the true OGs in the vape industry, VAPORESSO has continued to produce hit after hit, consistently creating high quality devices that cater for every level of vaper.

As a massive fan of VAPORESSO, I can decisively say that this kit is no exception.

Remarkably simple to operate, producing a satisfying draw and a surprisingly powerful taste, it was exceedingly difficult to find any flaws in this kit.

Harnessing the impressive build quality that VAPORESSO has become known for, this kit is compact as well as being sturdy (even after a couple of accidental drops!).

Due to its tiny form factor, the Eco One Kit fits nicely in your grip, and will fit into any pocket or handbag, large or small.

This device is available in an array of colours to suit everyone’s preference, adding a stylish feel to this awesome bit of kit.

Matching the exterior’s simplicity, the way that this vape works is also extremely straightforward.

In a world that thrives on simplicity and ease of use, one can rely on this device to be there every step of the way – and this is where the Eco One truly shines.

I have noticed somewhat of a decline in the use of disposables recently, and because of that, more and more people are opting for reusable kits such as the Eco One.

Not only will that save money in the long run, but it opens up the option to customise flavours/strengths of e-liquids as well as boasting a more eco-friendly disposition.

With a clear lack of buttons nor a screen, this

kit is likely designed with new vapers in mind. Without the worry of adjusting power modes or switching the device on or off, this works wonders from the get go.

Because there are no buttons, this kit offers a draw only option, meaning all you have to do is inhale to activate the pull.

Being TPD compliant, the pods used in this kit have a maximum capacity of 2ml, and feature a built-in coil system. This eliminates the need to swap out coils when they’re burnt out, adding further to this kit’s user-friendly quality.

The Eco One can accommodate two different resistances, one being 0.8ohm mesh and the other being 1.2ohm mesh.

I felt that the hit and flavour production was most prominent on the 0.8ohm, but vapers who enjoy a milder hit will likely opt for the 1.2ohm pod.

For such a minuscule device, the flavour offered by this vape was stunningly intense throughout the entirety of my trialling – with the built in coils lasting approximately 6 days of moderate usage.

Filling the pods is about as easy as it gets, there is a small rubber bung to the side of the pod that is unplugged, leaving a substantial space that should fit most e-liquid bottle nibs.

I really liked the transparency of the pod itself, as it was ever so easy to see the amount of e-liquid in there – reducing the risk of overfilling.

Equipped with a hefty 1100mAh built in, rechargeable battery, you can expect to be puffing all day long before resorting to powering it up again via USB C…and even then, it will take a mere 25-30 minutes to get going once more.

In summary, the Eco One Kit provided a reliable, simple and effective experience, capable of satisfying both new and old vapers alike.

I feel that this device will appeal mostly to those looking to quit smoking, or to vapers wanting to switch from disposables, thanks to its effortless operation.

Another stunning kit created by VAPORESSO, as I expected.

PROS

• Perfect for vapers switching from disposables

• Affordable

• Easy to see fill level of e-liquid in the pod

• Straightforward Operation

CONS

• I personally like mouth pieces to be wider and a little flatter in shape, but that is just my preference rather than a true fault.
