THE FIRST MIDDLE EASTERN BRAND LANDS IN THE UK MARKET
Following the latest ASH report, nearly three million British smokers have successfully quit smoking over the past five years by using e-cigarettes.
Despite numerous misinformation campaigns, newly published data has once again debunked the baseless claims against vaping.
Hello and welcome to issue 52 of Vaprouound Magazine.
This is a very special issue for myself and the team, as we are celebrating our ninth anniversary.
It is the magazines responsibility to offer a voice to an industry that is evolving rapidly and facing unprecedented challenges, not just in the UK, but worldwide.
The vaping community finds itself at a pivotal moment, navigating a complex landscape shaped by shifting regulations, changing public perceptions, and increasing political scrutiny.
In the UK, the recently revised Tobacco and Vapes Bill is a prime example of the pressure that the industry is currently under.
This legislation is set to introduce stricter measures aimed at reducing vaping’s appeal, especially among younger users.
While public health remains the cornerstone of such policies, many experts and industry leaders fear that the bill could unintentionally stifle innovation and accessibility for adult smokers looking for less harmful alternatives to traditional cigarettes.
Recent findings from a study
conducted by Evapo have revealed the extent to which the vaping industry could be impacted by these regulatory shifts.
According to the data, these changes could lead to a significant downturn in the availability and affordability of vaping products, potentially pushing many consumers back toward combustible tobacco…a scenario that public health advocates have long fought against.
Yet, amidst these challenges, there are glimmers of progress. Recent news has shown that the proportion of British vapers has now reached its highest level since records began.
This surge reflects both the growing understanding of vaping as a harm-reduction tool and the increasing demand for alternatives to traditional smoking.
At Vapouround, we remain committed to keeping you informed and advocating for a balanced, evidence-based approach to the challenges ahead.
Happy reading!

MAN’S Ban
The Isle of Man's ban on the sale of vaping products to under-18s took full effect on 1st September, following the Vaping Products Act 2024, which gained Royal Assent in May. This brings the island in line with UK regulations, which have prohibited vape sales to minors since 2016. Trading Standards officers have visited retailers to enforce the new rules. From 1st September, advertising restrictions and display regulations also came into force, banning the open display of vaping products in stores accessible to under-18s.
DENTIST’S Warning
Dentists have advised against vaping after dental surgery, but it's unclear if this is based on evidence specific to vaping or extrapolated from smoking risks. Most guidance comes from American sources, differing slightly from NHS advice...with the NHS highlighting dry socket as a potential complication after tooth extraction, where a protective blood clot fails to form or becomes dislodged. While vaping's exact impact is uncertain, the concern is that it could contribute to complications like dry socket, similar to smoking.
A TEENAGE Decline
Teen vaping in the U.S. has fallen to its lowest level in a decade, according to new survey data. Health officials report that the underage vaping rate is now below 6 percent, with fewer high school students using flavored e-cigarettes. The decline did not lead to an increase in the use of alternative products, such as nicotine pouches. While sales of small, flavored pouches like Zyn have surged among adults, the survey indicates their use remains uncommon among teens. This significant drop marks a positive trend in reducing teen vaping in the U.S.
HARD
Hit
The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) has announced support for vape retailers affected by recent riots and looting across England. With one case involving a 16-yearold in Merseyside participated in the unrest, stealing from a store. The riots, which have impacted refugees, ethnic minorities, businesses, and public institutions, have caused widespread concern. ACS acknowledges the potential impact on its members and is offering guidance to help affected retailers. They are working to provide assistance and resources to those facing difficulties due to the violence and unrest across towns and cities in the UK.
OPENING THE Conversation
The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) has written to the new Health Secretary Wes Streeting, Public Health Minister Andrew Gwynne, and Shadow Health Secretary Victoria Atkins, requesting a meeting to discuss vaping's role in achieving smokefree goals. Following Labour’s general election win, UKVIA congratulated the new government and highlighted recent data showing 5.1 million adults in Great Britain have used vaping to reduce or quit smoking. UKVIA supports Labour’s commitment to ban vape advertising targeting children and aims to strengthen regulations to reduce smoking rates while addressing youth vaping concerns.
Quitting KIWIS
New Zealand may soon achieve a world’s first…being the first country to declare itself ‘smokefree’. Smoke Free Sweden has released a report titled ‘Quitting Strong: New Zealand’s Smoking Cessation Success Story.’ It highlights New Zealand's success in halving its smoking rates within five years by promoting vaping as a smoking alternative. The country is now on track to achieve official smokefree status, with fewer than 5 percent of adults smoking. The report offers insights and strategies that can be adopted globally to reduce smoking rates and improve public health, serving as a guide for policymakers and health professionals worldwide.
CAPHRA Campaign
The Coalition of Asia Pacific Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates (CAPHRA) has launched a campaign opposing New Zealand's Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Amendment Bill. CAPHRA's Nancy Loucas warns that the legislation could ban closed pod systems, which are key to helping adults quit smoking. She highlights that major studies and U.S. FDA approvals emphasise the effectiveness of these systems for smoking cessation. The campaign argues the bill risks undermining harm reduction efforts by removing the most accessible vaping products for smokers looking to quit.
A CZECH PROPOSAL
The Czech Health Ministry is proposing a ban on sweetflavoured e-cigarettes, allowing only tobacco-flavored options. This move, part of a broader public health effort, has sparked backlash from the vaping industry, which argues that it could devastate the sector and drive users back to smoking or illicit markets. Industry leaders have called for alternative measures, such as limiting sales to minors rather than imposing a blanket ban on flavours.
The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals recently accepted multiple appeals of FDA marketing denial orders (MDOs) from vaping companies across the U.S. This follows the court’s precedent from the Triton Distribution case, which favored e-liquid manufacturers. Notably, companies like NicQuid and Vertigo Vapor successfully secured stays on their MDOs by partnering with Texasbased vape retailers, thus enabling the Fifth Circuit to serve as a valid venue. The FDA has challenged this in the Supreme Court, arguing the appeals violate venue rules and encourage forum shopping.
FREE KITS
Smokers in Bath and North East Somerset are being offered free vape kits as part of the "Swap to Stop" initiative, aimed at helping them quit smoking. The program
provides a vape starter kit and e-liquid supply for four weeks, along with followup support. This initiative is part of a larger national effort to reduce smoking rates and help England become smoke-free by 2030… public health officials highlight that vaping is less harmful than smoking, though not risk-free.
SWEDISH Assistance
Smoke Free Sweden highlighted the stagnation in EU smoking reduction, noting that smoking rates have only decreased by one percent since 2020. In contrast, Sweden’s success, driven by the widespread use of alternatives like nicotine pouches and snus, has resulted in a smoking rate of 5.6 percent. Swedish policies have significantly reduced tobacco-related deaths and cancer rates. Experts urge other EU countries to adopt similar harm-reduction strategies to meet future goals for smoking cessation.
NORTHERN VAPING Success
Recent figures reveal that 125,000 smokers in the North East have quit smoking over the last five years, primarily by switching to vaping. This is part of a larger national trend where half of all quitters used vapes to help them stop smoking. The shift is credited to campaigns by health organisations like Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and Fresh, which highlight the value of vaping as a harm reduction tool. Experts emphasise that vaping significantly reduces the risk of lung disease compared to traditional smoking.
LORDS DEBATE Youth
A recent debate in the House of Lords addressed concerns about youth vaping. Lord Storey raised the issue, citing the appeal of colorful, flavored products and the need for stronger enforcement of laws preventing under-18s from buying vapes. Despite concerns, data from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) shows a decline in youth
Thai CONCERN
In Thailand, 12.7 million adults are smokers, with a youth smoking prevalence of 7 percent. Smokeless tobacco is used by 2 percent of adults, and tobacco use is responsible for 14 percent of all deaths in the country. The economic cost of smoking in Thailand is significant, reaching 192 billion baht annually, including healthcare expenses and lost productivity. The government is urged to implement more robust tobacco control measures to curb this ongoing public health issue.
vaping in the UK. The debate highlighted the need for balanced policies that prevent youth uptake while allowing vapes to serve as a tool for adult smokers to quit.
THE HUMBER’S Switch
In Hull, 24 percent of smokers who quit between April 2023 and March 2024 used vapes to help them stop smoking. SmokeFree Hull, the local support service, provides free vapes and personalized guidance to help residents quit. Although Hull’s smoking rate remains high at 20.5 percent, significantly above the national average, the use of vapes is proving an effective tool for many in their journey to quit smoking, contributing to both health improvements and financial savings.
FURTHER Reinforcement
A recent study that was published in August supports evidence that vaping aids smoking cessation. Conducted with nearly 2,000 U.S. adults who both smoked and vaped, the study found that daily vaping increased smoking cessation rates to 39.1 percent, compared
A DecliningMARKET
The U.S. vape market faces increasing pessimism as vape stores report declining revenues, driven by competition from disposable vapes sold in gas stations and convenience stores. According to ECigIntelligence, 84 percent of stores saw reduced monthly income, with misinformation and regulatory challenges exacerbating the situation. Disposables now account for 33 percent of revenue, but illicit sales through non-specialist retailers present ongoing issues. However, stricter enforcement against unauthorized products could provide hope for struggling vape stores.
to 20.8 percent for non-daily vapers. The study suggests that newer e-cigarettes, particularly those using salt-based nicotine, are more effective at helping smokers quit…it emphasises the importance of full cessation of smoking for maximum health benefits.
DOCTOR’S Warning
Dr. Roberto Sussman has warned about a significant development regarding vaping in Mexico. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador aims to give vape prohibition ‘constitutional rank’, a move unprecedented in any Western
Saving SURVEY
A study by Alternix revealed that smokers can save up to £3,000 a year by switching to vapes or nicotine pouches. With the NHS advising smokers to switch due to the high risks of heart attacks and lung cancer, the financial benefits are significant. The study found that nicotine pouches cost around £40 per month, while disposable vapes cost £53. Alternix broke down the daily, weekly, and lifetime costs of these alternatives compared to smoking, providing guidance for those looking to quit smoking affordably.
country. If passed, it would make vaping prohibitions difficult to challenge legally, potentially empowering criminal cartels by removing competition from informal vendors. Obrador’s successor, Claudia Sheinbaum, supports these amendments, raising concerns for Mexico’s three million vapers.
MORE Action
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled against Pixus Online Ltd, trading as Juicemate, for promoting electronic cigarettes via affiliate schemes, breaching advertising regulations. Juicemate’s website encouraged affiliate marketing of nicotine-containing e-cigarettes, which are not permitted to be advertised online unless licensed as medicines. Following an ASA investigation, Juicemate removed the affiliate webpage and acknowledged they were unaware of the breach. The ASA reminded the company that future marketing must not promote e-cigarettes through affiliate schemes, in line with the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016.

THE COALITION OF ASIA PACIFIC TOBACCO HARM REDUCTION ADVOCATES HAS SLAMMED NEW PROPAGANDA ATTEMPTS AFTER YET ANOTHER MISINFORMATION ONSLAUGHT
The Coalition of Asia Pacific Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates (CAPHRA) has recently condemned the spread of misinformation within its region, particularly regarding tobacco harm reduction (THR) strategies.
According to CAPHRA, this misinformation campaign is orchestrated by elements within the tobacco control community who are staunchly opposed
to safer nicotine products (SNPs) like vaping and heated tobacco products, despite growing evidence of their effectiveness in reducing smoking rates.
Nancy Loucas, the Executive Coordinator of CAPHRA, emphasised that these misinformation efforts are not only misleading but also harmful to public health.
Loucas said: "It is deeply concerning that certain groups are prioritising ideology over evidence."
Highlighting the resistance from some health organisations to acknowledge the scientific consensus on the benefits of SNPs.
Loucas added: "The spread of false information is hindering smokers from accessing less harmful alternatives and ultimately, it’s a public health tragedy."
CAPHRA argues that SNPs have played a crucial role in reducing smoking rates in many parts of the world, and the refusal to recognise their potential benefits is detrimental to global health efforts.
They point to the growing body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of THR strategies, noting that countries embracing SNPs have seen significant
declines in smoking prevalence.
Loucas also criticised the framing of these products as equally harmful as traditional smoking, a tactic she claims is deliberately used to confuse the public.
Furthermore, CAPHRA is urging governments and health authorities in the Asia Pacific region to take a more evidencebased approach to tobacco control.
They are calling for a reassessment of current policies, advocating for regulations that consider the scientific evidence supporting THR rather than relying on outdated and inaccurate information.
Loucas believes that by perpetuating myths and untruths about SNPs, opponents are effectively denying smokers a viable option to reduce their health risks.
"Misinformation is costing lives," she stated bluntly, calling on authorities to prioritise the wellbeing of their populations by embracing harm reduction as a core component of their tobacco control strategies.
THE SPREAD OF FALSE INFORMATION IS HINDERING SMOKERS FROM ACCESSING LESS HARMFUL ALTERNATIVES AND ULTIMATELY, IT’S A PUBLIC HEALTH TRAGEDY

Labour’s government has wasted no time in considering a complete ban on outdoor smoking.
Words: Oliver Smith
While these measures may rightly be driven by public considerations, health they dividingrisk opinion and imposing yet another regulatory burden on businesses already considerablefacing challenges.
The new Labour government in the UK is reportedly considering a significant expansion of the current smoking ban to include various outdoor spaces such as pub gardens, outdoor restaurants, and areas outside stadiums.
The proposed measures are part of a broader effort to curb smoking and protect the public from second-hand smoke.
Leaked documents suggest that the government is seriously contemplating these changes, which would extend the 2007 indoor smoking ban to more public areas.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is reportedly supportive of the plans, as they are seen as a vital step toward making Britain smoke-free by 2030, a goal that has been pursued by successive governments.
However, the plans have not been officially confirmed, with government spokespersons refusing to comment on the leaked information, only reiterating the commitment to public health and the reduction of smoking-related harm.
Critics argue that the proposed ban could have severe economic consequences for pubs, restaurants, and other outdoor venues that have invested heavily in outdoor spaces, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Industry leaders and think tanks, such as the Institute of Economic Affairs, warn that such regulations could be ‘another nail in the coffin’ for struggling pubs, potentially leading to closures and job losses.
Additionally, some commentators have raised concerns about the broader implications of such a ban.
Michael Kill, the chief executive of the Night Time Industries Association, questioned the governments potential move.
In a release, he said: “This raises the critical question: Are we on the brink of becoming a nanny state? What is next?
“While these measures may rightly be driven by public health considerations, they risk dividing opinion and imposing yet another regulatory burden on businesses already facing considerable challenges.
“At a time when our industry desperately needs the freedom to trade, the last thing we need is further barriers.”
The debate around this potential policy reflects the ongoing tension between public health objectives and economic considerations, particularly in industries already under pressure.
As discussions continue, the government faces the challenge of balancing these interests while advancing its public health agenda.
IN THE HOLE
Following the King’s Speech, vape retailer Evapo has published data on the potential impacts vaping bans could have on the UK economy.
Words: Oliver Smith
The potential
ban on vaping products in the UK could have significant economic ramifications, with estimates suggesting a £2.8 billion impact on the nation's economy.
This figure, cited by vaping retailer Evapo, reflects not just the direct financial consequences for the vaping industry, but also the broader effects on employment, tax revenue, and public health.
Vaping, which has grown in popularity as an alternative to smoking, represents a significant sector within the UK’s retail market.
The industry's rapid growth has been supported by public health campaigns and the National Health Service's (NHS) endorsement of e-cigarettes as a tool for smoking cessation.
However, recent discussions around tightening regulations or outright banning certain vaping products have sparked concerns among industry stakeholders and public health advocates alike.
The £2.8 billion figure represents a comprehensive estimate of the potential losses that could result from such a ban.
This includes direct losses to the vaping industry, which has an annual turnover of approximately £1 billion, according to Evapo.
The industry supports a wide range of jobs, from manufacturing and distribution to retail and marketing, and a ban could jeopardize thousands of these positions, exacerbating unemployment rates and reducing consumer spending.
Beyond the direct economic losses, the tax revenue generated by the sale of vaping products is substantial.
The UK government collects millions in VAT and excise duty from the vaping industry, revenue that would disappear if a ban were implemented.
In the context of an already strained public budget, losing this revenue could force the government to find alternative sources of income, potentially leading to higher taxes in other areas or cuts to public services.
The potential public health implications of a vaping ban are also a key consideration. Many experts argue that vaping has played a crucial role in reducing smoking rates across the UK.
According to Public Health England, e-cigarettes are estimated to be at least 95% less harmful than traditional cigarettes, and their use has been credited with helping millions of smokers quit or reduce their tobacco consumption.
A ban on vaping could drive former smokers back to traditional cigarettes, reversing the public health gains made in recent years and leading to increased healthcare costs
associated with smokingrelated illnesses.
Moreover, the black market is likely to thrive under a vaping ban, as consumers seek alternative sources for products they are accustomed to using.
Andrej Kuttruf, CEO of Evapo, said: “In light of the proposed disposable vape ban set for April 2025, we face a critical juncture for the vaping industry and the UK economy.
“Our analysis, supported by the Centre for Economics and Business Research, indicates that bans could jeopardise £2.8 billion in economic contributions and 18,000 jobs.
“The vaping sector has evolved into a significant economic pillar, supporting thousands of jobs and generating substantial tax revenue.
“Removing disposable vapes from the market could inadvertently hinder smokers’ efforts to quit, escalate NHS costs, and drive consumers towards unsafe, illicit products. We urge policymakers to
OUR ANALYSIS, SUPPORTED BY THE CENTRE FOR ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS RESEARCH, INDICATES THAT BANS COULD JEOPARDISE
£2.8 BILLION IN ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTIONS AND 18,000 JOBS
“ “
consider these economic and health ramifications carefully.”
Unregulated products sold on the black market pose significant health risks, as they may not meet the safety standards required of legally sold vaping products.
The rise of illicit trade could also undermine law enforcement efforts and further diminish tax revenues, compounding the economic impact.
Evapo's warning comes at a time when the UK government is under increasing pressure to address concerns about the rise in youth vaping.
While it is essential to protect young people from the potential harms of nicotine addiction, the broader implications of a ban must be carefully weighed.
The economic cost, potential public health repercussions, and the risk of fostering a black market for vaping products are all factors that need to be considered in any regulatory decision.
SWITCH TO
After ASH UK published the latest findings on vaping, adult smokers and vapers have expressed support for the government’s ‘switch to quit’ program.
QUITTING SMOKING IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS A PERSON WHO SMOKES CAN DO FOR THEIR HEALTH, AND THE LATEST
The ‘Switch to Quit’ initiative by the UK government has been gaining attention as a viable method for smokers to transition away from cigarettes.
The initiative, which promotes the use of vaping as a less harmful alternative to smoking, has received positive feedback from both health professionals and former smokers.
One notable case is that of Michael Hughes, who had been smoking for nearly 50 years before being diagnosed with emphysema.
In January 2023, Hughes made the switch to vaping, and by following the ‘Switch to Quit’ advice, he managed to quit smoking entirely… and his story is a testament to the potential effectiveness of vaping as a smoking cessation tool.
Supporting this initiative is Paul, an NHS nurse, who also switched to vaping after years of smoking.
Paul’s personal experience highlights the substantial health benefits he noticed after making the switch, such as improved lung function and overall well-being.
He praised vaping as a significant aid in quitting smoking, emphasising that it offered a practical solution for those struggling with nicotine addiction.
The article also references data from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) UK, which indicates a growing acceptance of vaping as a method to quit smoking.
The data supports the notion that vaping can be a less harmful alternative to traditional cigarettes, making it a key component in public health strategies aimed at reducing smoking-related diseases.
Dr Katherine East, King’s College London commented: “The 2024 ASH data show vaping among adults has increased in the past year and the main reasons for vaping are to quit, reduce, or remain abstinent from smoking.
“The majority of adults who have quit smoking in Great Britain used a vape in their last quit attempt.
“Quitting smoking is one of the best things a person who smokes can do for their health, and the latest ASH data show the importance that vapes can have on this journey.”
The support from healthcare professionals like Paul, along with stories like Michael Hughes’, illustrates the potential of vaping as a transformative tool in the fight against smoking-related illnesses.
A Locked
After countless attacks of misinformation, new published data has once again disproved the groundless claims towards vaping.
New data has revealed e-cigarettes do save lives… the baseless claims that vaping leads to smoking. disproving
Opponents of e-cigarettes have long claimed that vaping acts as a gateway to smoking, increasing the long-term risks associated with tobacco use.
However, new data completely debunks this argument, showing that the reality is quite the opposite.
A recent Gallup poll highlights that adult smoking rates have reached a historic low of just 11 percent.
This decline is even more pronounced among young adults, with only six percent of 18- to 29-year-olds currently smoking.
So, what’s driving this dramatic drop in smoking, especially among younger generations?
The evidence points to e-cigarettes as the key factor. The sharp decline in smoking closely mirrors the rise in e-cigarette use.
Around seven percent of adults reported vaping in the past week, while that number jumps to 18 percent among young adults.
These findings reinforce previous studies that have shown a direct substitution effect between traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes.
In other words, many young adults who might have otherwise started smoking have instead opted for vaping, which poses significantly lower risks.
As a result, tobacco cigarette use among young adults has almost disappeared. If this trend continues, we could be on a path toward eliminating cigarette smoking altogether.
The potential public health benefits of these trends are enormous…despite resistance from many tobacco control groups and health organisations, the rise of e-cigarettes could ultimately be seen as the key strategy that could lead to the end of smoking.
Unfortunately, many of these organisations, having opposed vaping from the start and promoted misinformation about its so-called gateway effect and health risks, may not receive recognition for the millions of lives saved by this innovation.
Ironically, it was regulatory restrictions on vaping products that nearly halted this progress.
What saved the day was a regulatory loophole that allowed disposable e-cigarettes to remain available to the public.
It will be fascinating to see how major tobacco control groups respond now that the evidence clearly shows vaping has played a key role in drastically reducing smoking among today’s young adults.
Since it’s uncommon for individuals to begin smoking later in life, smoking rates within this generation are highly unlikely to exceed six percent.
A HIGH Record
A new survey has shown that the number of former adult smokers making the switch to vaping has nearly doubled in the past three years
Words: Oliver Smith
A recent survey revealed that the number of adult vapers in the UK has reached its highest level, signaling a significant public health shift.
This increase highlights the success of e-cigarettes as a reduced-risk alternative for former smokers.
For many, vaping represents a pathway away from the harmful effects of traditional tobacco, which is linked to numerous health risks.
By switching to e-cigarettes, individuals are not only reducing their exposure to toxic substances found in cigarettes but are also embracing a tool that has been widely recognised for its harm reduction potential.
E-cigarettes, often viewed with skepticism, have proven to be a crucial tool in smoking cessation efforts.
For years, Public Health England has consistently supported vaping as a safer option compared to smoking, and this record number of vapers underscores the growing acceptance of this view. .
The rise in adult vapers also points to increased awareness and education about the benefits of switching from smoking to vaping. Health campaigns
and initiatives aimed at reducing smoking rates have likely contributed to this trend, encouraging smokers to consider vaping as a viable alternative.
While e-cigarettes are not completely without risk, they represent a substantial reduction in harm compared to smoking, particularly for long-term smokers who have struggled to quit using traditional methods.
This trend could have far-reaching improvements for public health, as fewer smokers could lead to reduced rates of smokingrelated illnesses such as lung cancer, heart disease, and respiratory conditions.
As more adults make the switch to vaping, the overall burden of smokingrelated diseases on the healthcare system may decrease, resulting in a healthier population and potential cost savings in healthcare.
The record number of adult vapers in the UK is a positive development, reflecting a shift towards reduced-risk alternatives for nicotine consumption.
As more people transition from smoking to vaping, the potential for a significant public health impact becomes increasingly evident.
Declining Habit Declining Habit
A recently published study has shown that daily vaping usage from 2019 to 2021 was associated with a much higher rate in cigarette discontinuation for past smokers.
Words: Oliver Smith
“”
THESE FINDINGS SUGGEST THAT RESEARCH FOCUSED ON E-CIGARETTES MARKETED IN RECENT YEARS IS NEEDED TO INFORM PRODUCT REGULATION AND PUBLIC HEALTH POLICY DECISIONS.
recent study published in JAMA Network Open titled ‘E-Cigarette Characteristics and Cigarette Cessation Among Adults Who Use E-Cigarettes’ has shed light on a notable trend in smoking behaviour between 2019 and 2021.
The study found that individuals who used cigarettes daily during this period were more likely to discontinue cigarette use than in previous years.
This finding has significant implications for public health, particularly in the context of the evolving landscape of nicotine consumption.
The research, which analysed data from a diverse adult population, highlights the potential role of e-cigarettes in cigarette cessation.
The study observed that the characteristics of e-cigarette usage—such as device type, nicotine concentration, and frequency of use—played a critical role in the likelihood of cigarette discontinuation among smokers.
Those who engaged in regular e-cigarette use were more likely to quit smoking cigarettes altogether.
One of the study’s key findings is the correlation between daily cigarette use and higher discontinuation rates.
During the period from 2019 to 2021, smokers who used cigarettes daily were more inclined to quit compared to previous years.
The team concluded the study, saying: “In this, daily e-cigarette uses and use of e-cigarettes in 2019 to 2021 were consistently associated with greater cigarette discontinuation rates.
“These findings suggest that research focused on e-cigarettes marketed in recent years is needed to inform product regulation and public health policy decisions.”
This trend may be partly attributed to the increasing availability and use of e-cigarettes, which offer a less harmful alternative to traditional smoking.
E-cigarettes, which deliver nicotine without the combustion of tobacco, have been marketed and perceived by some as a tool to reduce or quit smoking.
However, the study also emphasizes the importance of the specific characteristics of e-cigarette use in predicting successful cigarette cessation.
For instance, users of refillable tank devices or those who used e-cigarettes with higher nicotine concentrations were found to have higher success rates in quitting cigarettes.
This suggests that not all e-cigarette use is equally effective in promoting smoking cessation, and the type and intensity of e-cigarette use are critical factors.
The findings of this study contribute to the ongoing debate about the role of e-cigarettes in tobacco harm reduction.
While e-cigarettes are not without their own health risks, their association with higher cigarette discontinuation rates among daily smokers highlights their potential as a smoking cessation tool.
Public health policies may need to consider these nuances to effectively support smokers in their efforts to quit, while also addressing the risks associated with e-cigarette use.
HOW THE FOUNDER OF IS REVOLUTIONISING THE VAPE INDUSTRY IN THE MIDDLE
EAST AND BEYOND
We spoke with Yalla’s CEO Umran Khan about the brands exciting new horizons.
Words: Oliver Smith
Can you tell us a bit about your background and what inspired you to get into the vape industry?
I have a sports management company and I’m also a vaper. As a former smoker, I personally experienced how effective vaping can be in helping people quit smoking.
I noticed that the vape products available in Dubai were quite ordinary and lacked the uniqueness you’d expect in a city known for its style and vibrant lifestyle.
During a trip to the UK, I came across some incredibly innovative designs, which made me question why Dubai didn’t have access to similar products.
That realisation sparked my interest in the industry and inspired me to launch Yalla, bringing something fresh and exciting to the Middle Eastern market.
What was the initial vision behind launching your vape brand?
Before I launched Yalla, I was just a one-man band with an idea and a vision. My vision was to create a vape brand that truly represented the Middle East—a brand we could proudly call our own. I wanted it to reflect the region’s rich culture, vibrant society, and growing success, while offering something unique and innovative in the market.
Can you share the story behind the brand name and its significance?
When I was searching for the perfect brand name, my first choice was actually ‘Habibi,’ but I wasn’t able to secure the rights.
I then ended up choosing ‘Yalla,’ a word commonly used in everyday conversations that carries different meanings depending on the context.
Most importantly, Yalla is more than just a word—it’s a motivating call to action,
encouraging people to take the next step.
Our brand embodies this ethos of action, especially when it comes to quitting smoking, which requires commitment and determination. We want to inspire people to choose Yalla, quit smoking, and embrace healthier life choices. More than just a nicotine alternative, Yalla represents a lifestyle that has resonated with people across different countries and cultures.
What challenges did you face in the early days of starting your business, and how did you overcome them?
In the early days, I faced several challenges. Being a one-man show, I made 13 trips to China to network and convince our Chinese partners to believe in our brand and vision.
It took time, but I managed to build strong relationships in China. Despite the challenges in the industry, I tackled them head-on.
Can you tell us about a pivotal moment or bold decision that helped Yalla gain recognition and grow into an international brand?
At the Mena Vape Awards 18
months ago, I didn’t have a product in the market. However, I took a risk by placing gift boxes with product samples at every table.
The night before the event, I spent all night packing these boxes with the Vapouround team in 35-degree heat and no air conditioning to ensure everything was ready on time. It was a challenge, but the payoff was incredible, the feedback we received sparked curiosity about Yalla. This risk paid off. remember thinking to myself, ‘Next year, I want to be on that stage accepting an award.’
Fast forward to today, I have multiple products in the market and won three awards at the MENA Vape Awards the following year. It has been an eventful year. My team has grown, and Yalla has expanded into different regions, making it a truly international brand. It has been a year of exponential growth, and my goal is to further expand the brand to more geographical regions.
What is the core mission of your brand?
The core mission of Yalla is to help people quit smoking by offering a range of alternative
nicotine delivery products.
I don’t see Yalla as just a vape brand, but rather as an alternative nicotine solutions provider.
As a team, we’re constantly exploring innovative ways to support people in their journey to quit smoking, including options like pouches, gum, and nicotine strips. We’re also in the process of developing an exciting new product, though we can’t reveal too much just yet. What steps did you take to bring your vision for Yalla to life?
I was determined to invest in my vision for this brand and had a clear strategy that I stuck to.. Before launching any products, I travelled extensively to various trade shows around
the world to build connections and partnerships while gaining valuable insights into the vape industry.
I recognised the hard work and dedication required to create a successful brand, and I committed myself to executing this vision at every opportunity. What accomplishment are you most proud of since starting Yalla?
I’m most proud of the fact that Yalla has been accepted here in the Middle East and that the brand has entered into new markets.
It’s been a struggle and a lot of hard work, but we are growing and it’s a huge accomplishment. As someone who has just entered the industry, I’ve learned a lot from my industry peers and
the people I’ve met in China, the UK, and the USA. Getting compliments from these people has been a big self-confidence boost to me because I look up to them.
How has Yalla’s approach to innovation and adapting to different markets contributed to the brand’s international success?
We are always innovating and adapting to what’s happening in other markets, tailoring our products for our market here.
Interestingly, much of what we’ve tailored for the Middle East market has crossed geographical boundaries, as we have recently launched in South Africa, Pakistan, Bahrain, Jordan, and the UK.
This demonstrates the crossover appeal of our premium quality brand, featuring innovative flavours and style.
Tell us a bit about your launch into the UK market?
We are thrilled to be the first Middle Eastern brand to enter
the UK vape market, it’s a historic moment for us! In October, we’re launching two exclusive pod systems, Aura and Velor, along with our Nicotine Pouches, NicGum, and Luxuria e-liquid range. These products showcase some of our best work, and we can’t wait to share them with vapers in the UK.
For those just discovering your brand, what would you want them to know about you and your vision?
We started from the ground up with a small but dedicated
team, and we take great pride in doing everything to the highest standard—from rigorous product testing to precision manufacturing.
Our goal is to keep innovating, continuously improving, and staying ahead in style. We’re deeply passionate about our brand vision and ensuring our products stand out in the market.
It’s been flattering to see some of the larger brands imitate our colour scheme in their products, as it’s a clear sign that
we’re setting trends within the industry.
Are there any exciting new products or developments that you can share with us?
Yes, we have an exciting project in the works but unfortunately, I can’t give too much away yet. We’re collaborating with one of the largest pod system manufacturers on a new device set to launch later this year.
It’s a great honour that they contacted us to do a collaboration and to be working with them, and we’re putting the finishing touches on a fantastic device which will be Yalla x100.
We’re confident it will turn heads, and we can’t wait to bring it to the market.

THE PEOPLE PLAN
As UK smoking rates fall to a new low, UKVIA warns against enacting new regulations which could reverse this trend.
n December 2022 the Office of National Statistics (ONS) announced that UK smoking rates had reached an all-time low of 13.9% and said vaping had played a ‘major role’ in this record-breaking decrease.
Now, new ONS data shows that just 11.9% of the UK population (around six million people) now smoke, with the most dramatic fall amongst the 18-24 age group where smoking has plummeted from 25.7% in 2011 to 9.8% in 2023.
Meanwhile, around 5.1 million people aged 16 years and over (9.8%) currently vape daily or occasionally in Great Britain and vaping rates are highest among those aged 16-24, according to the official data.
While the UKVIA welcomes the declining smoking rates, there are two things which jump out from these figures.
Firstly, nobody under 18 should be vaping and the government must do much more to clamp down on youth uptake.
This is why the UKVIA wants anyone selling or distributing vapes to be licensed, backed up by fines of £10,000 for those who sell to children or sell illegal products.
Secondly, it is clear to me that vaping continues to play a significant part in helping bring down smoking rates but we have a lot more work to do to reach the six million people who continue to use cigarettes.
Data like this shows that the UK can become smokefree and the UKVIA is willing to work with government and regulators to ensure that this happens.
The forthcoming Tobacco and Vapes Bill seeks to give the health secretary unprecedented powers to regulate flavours, retail displays and packaging.
How any new regulations which flow from this legislation are implemented will help determine how the next ONS smoking figures look.
If the government gets it right, then we can expect to see smoking rates to continue to decline but if new regulations are too heavy handed – such as restricting flavours or forcing retailers to hide vapes away like cigarettes – then we could see smoking rates climb back up as vapers revert to deadly combustible tobacco and that would be in nobody’s interest.

Politicians in the House of Commons have expressed support for the new Tobacco and Vapes Bill
Words: Oliver Smith
In a significant move that has gained widespread support, politicians in the House of Commons have expressed their approval of the new Tobacco and Vapes Bill.
The bill, set to overhaul current vaping regulations, aims to create a healthier and more regulated environment for both smokers and non-smokers.
One of the most notable aspects of the Bill is the emphasis on preventing underage access to vaping products.
Proponents argue that while vaping serves as an effective smoking cessation tool for adults, it should be responsibly managed to avoid introducing nicotine to younger populations.
MP’s believe that the bill will ‘strike the right balance’ between protecting young people and providing adults with less harmful alternatives to traditional smoking .
Cancer Research UK, a leading voice in public health advocacy, has also praised the Bill for its potential to reduce smoking rates and prevent tobacco-related diseases.
A spokesperson from Cancer Research UK stated: “We are pleased to see measures being put forward that will help curb youth access while also promoting healthier alternatives for those looking to quit smoking.”
Vaping has often been a contentious topic, however, supporters argue that these concerns are overshadowed by the benefits that vaping offers as a significantly less harmful alternative to smoking.
By supporting the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, policymakers and health organisations alike are recognising the role of vaping in the broader strategy to reduce tobaccorelated harm.
Moreover, the Bill includes measures to ensure that vaping products are manufactured to high-quality standards, thereby addressing concerns about product safety and inconsistencies.
This move is expected to build public trust and encourage more smokers to switch to vaping.
John Dunne, Director General of the UK Vaping Industry Association, believes this will help “raise standards across the industry, protect consumers, and support smokers in quitting” .
Additionally, the Bill proposes to regulate advertising and marketing of vaping products to ensure that they are not targeted towards minors.
This aligns with the broader goal of preventing underage vaping, a concern that has been echoed by both vaping advocates and critics alike.
By implementing these restrictions, the government aims to foster a responsible vaping culture that prioritises the health and well-being of all citizens.
While the Bill still requires further debate and potential amendments, its introduction has been met with optimism from various stakeholders.
By focusing on harm reduction and ensuring responsible use, the Tobacco and Vapes Bill could pave the way for a healthier future.
As discussions continue in the House of Commons, the vaping community remains hopeful that the Bill will be a catalyst for positive change.
With the backing of politicians and health organisations, the initiative marks a pivotal moment in the journey towards reducing smoking rates and embracing safer alternatives.
This support signifies a collective effort to balance public health interests with the needs of those seeking to quit smoking through vaping.

The UKVIA has produced a survey detailing the importance of flavoured e-liquid after gaining a Freedom of Information request from local authorities.

non-tobacco flavoured vapes, with the goal of curbing the increasing trend of youth vaping.
The BMA has expressed concerns that the variety of appealing flavours is drawing more young people into vaping, potentially leading to future nicotine addiction.
The organisation argues that a blanket ban on all nontobacco flavours is necessary to safeguard public health, especially for younger demographics.
However, this push for stricter regulations has faced considerable opposition from experts who argue that flavour bans could harm adult smokers who are attempting to quit.
For example, the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) supports vaping as a harm-reduction tool, believing that it offers smokers a far less harmful alternative to traditional tobacco products.
The availability of flavoured e-cigarettes, in their view, serves as an important incentive for smokers to switch to vaping, which has been shown to be significantly less dangerous than smoking cigarettes.
The UKVIA report echoes this sentiment, suggesting that the removal of flavoured vapes could drive exsmokers back to smoking cigarettes.
John Dunne, Director General of the UKVIA said: “We recognise and share the desire to put a stop to youth vaping, however, banning all non-tobacco flavours is a completely

misguided, dangerous and deluded approach which will hurt smokers, vapers and legitimate retailers while lining the pockets of rogue businesses.
“Instead, we need to introduce regulation which outlaws youth-appealing flavour names and descriptors; optimise the MHRA notification process to prevent inappropriate products from ever making it to the shelves.
“Introduce an industry-funded, first-of-its-kind vape retailer and distributor licensing scheme which could empower trading standards through £50 million plus in annual self-sustaining funding and would bring into play much harsher penalties for businesses caught flouting the law.”
It cites data from Stop Smoking Services that indicate a high success rate when vapes are incorporated into cessation plans.
Many services also provide tailored support to users, focusing on reducing their nicotine dependency over time, with flavoured vapes acting as a stepping stone away from traditional cigarettes.
This clash between harm reduction advocates and public health organisations highlights a complex balancing act.
On one hand, there is a legitimate concern over rising youth vaping, with critics arguing that regulatory gaps allow flavoured vapes to become too accessible to younger users.
On the other hand, flavoured vapes have emerged as a critical tool for helping long-term smokers quit, and banning them could undermine ongoing public health efforts aimed at reducing smoking rates.

Vape Club finds three in five businesses avoided fines after selling vapes to children last year.
Words: Oliver Smith
recent report by Vape Club has revealed that three out of five businesses caught selling vapes to minors in 2023 avoided fines.
The report, based on Freedom of Information (FOI) data from 138 local authorities, highlights a significant increase in businesses caught selling to underage customers, with two cases reported daily last year.
However, despite the rise in incidents, only £126,000 in fines was issued, far below the potential £1.7 million in maximum fines.
Dan Marchant, Director of Vape Club, expressed concern over the leniency of these fines, emphasising that ‘rogue retailers’ are exploiting the low likelihood of being penalised.
Marchant pointed out that the average fine of £400 is substantially lower than the maximum allowable fine of £2,500.
He called for stricter penalties, advocating for fines to be increased to at least £10,000, especially for repeat offenders.
Marchant acknowledged the challenges faced by Trading Standards, noting that while the rise in fines by 69 percent in 2023 shows some progress, it remains insufficient to curb the issue.
He supported the idea of on-the-spot fines but stressed that these should not replace more substantial penalties.
Marchant said: “Reputable sellers have safeguards in place to ensure that children can’t buy vaping products.
“For instance, we conduct full digital age verification on every customer before we allow an order to go out the door.
“We are really encouraged to see that from ASH’s recent report the uptake in youth vaping has stabilised and we aren’t seeing an upward trend in teenagers trying vapes.
“What we have identified is the rising number in businesses selling to teens being caught.
“However, what we want to stress from our findings is that these deterrents and fines are not harsh enough.
“We’re aware of the difficult job Trading Standards have to do with limited resources and completely welcome the move for them to issue on-the-spot fines as long as it’s not a substitute for fining the business a significant sum.
“To help solve this issue, we want to see maximum fines increased to at least £10,000 for businesses and increase the fine for repeat offenders.”
The report underscores the need for a more robust regulatory framework, including the introduction of a Vape Retailer and Distributor Licensing system, to better control the sale of vaping products to minors.
Without such measures, experts warn that businesses will continue to flout the law with minimal consequences.
TO HELP SOLVE THIS ISSUE, WE WANT TO SEE MAXIMUM FINES INCREASED TO AT LEAST £10,000 FOR BUSINESSES AND INCREASE THE FINE

THE TIDES ARE THE TIDES ARE turning turning
British vapers are moving towards reusable devices ahead of the looming disposables ban being implemented next year.
Words:
Oliver Smith
As
the industry braces for upcoming regulatory changes, a notable shift in buyer behaviour is starting to emerge.
Reports show shoppers are now increasingly turning to reusable devices as the UK government prepares to implement a ban on disposable vapes.
This change in consumer behavior is a response to growing concerns about the environmental impact and health risks associated with disposable vaping products.
Recent reports indicate that convenience stores and independent retailers are seeing a notable increase in demand for reusable vaping devices, signaling a shift in both consumer preferences and retailer strategies.
The upcoming ban on disposable vapes comes as part of the government's broader efforts to address the challenges posed by electronic waste and public health concerns.
Disposable vapes have been criticised for contributing to environmental pollution, particularly through littering, as well as the products easy access to young people.
These concerns have prompted policymakers to seek alternatives that align with sustainability goals and promote healthier choices for consumers.
As a result of these impending regulations, both consumers and retailers are adjusting their approaches to vaping products.
Retailers have reported a significant rise
in sales of reusable vaping devices, with some stores experiencing a surge of more than 30 percent in demand.
This trend is driven by several factors, including the desire for more sustainable options and the anticipation of future regulatory changes that could further restrict the availability of disposable products.
Consumers are increasingly choosing reusable devices that offer more customisation, longer battery life, and a wider range of flavours.
Reusable vapes provide a more costeffective solution over time, as users only need to replace the liquid cartridges or coils instead of purchasing new devices altogether.
This shift towards reusables is not only driven by practical considerations but also reflects a growing awareness of the environmental impact of disposable products.
Retailers have been quick to adapt to these changing market dynamics by expanding their inventory of reusable vaping devices and related accessories.
Many stores are investing in staff training to educate customers about the benefits of reusable vapes and how to properly maintain them.
This proactive approach has helped retailers stay ahead of the regulatory curve and build stronger relationships with their customer base by offering more sustainable and health-conscious alternatives.
The growing preference for reusable vaping devices also underscores a broader shift towards sustainability and
“ “ SMOKING IS STILL THE COUNTRY’S BIGGEST PREVENTABLE KILLER AND VAPING IS ONE OF MANY TOOLS NEEDED TO HELP SMOKERS QUIT IF WE ARE TO CREATE A SMOKEFREE COUNTRY FOR CURRENT AS WELL AS FUTURE GENERATIONS
environmental consciousness among consumers.
As awareness of the environmental impact of disposable products increases, more people are seeking alternatives that align with their values.
Reusable vapes not only reduce electronic waste but also minimise the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing and shipping disposable products.
In addition to environmental benefits, reusable vapes offer users a more personalised vaping experience.
Consumers can choose from a wider variety of e-liquids, flavors, and nicotine strengths, allowing them to tailor their vaping experience to their preferences.
This level of customisation is particularly appealing to seasoned vapers who are
looking for a more refined experience.
The transition from disposable to reusable vaping devices represents a pivotal moment in the vaping industry.
As the upcoming ban on disposable vapes looms, both consumers and retailers are embracing this change, driven by a combination of regulatory compliance, environmental concerns, and a desire for a more personalised vaping experience.
This trend is expected to continue as more people recognize the benefits of reusable devices, both for their wallets and the environment.
Retailers who adapt to these changing preferences will not only meet consumer demands but also play a crucial role in shaping a more sustainable future for the vaping industry.

ASH report nearly three million British smokers have quit with the help of an e-cigarette over the last five years
Words: Oliver Smith
The recent report by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) reveals a compelling and encouraging trend: over half of the people who have quit smoking in the past five years have done so by transitioning to vaping.
This report highlights the critical role that vaping plays in supporting individuals to break free from the shackles of smoking.
As the number of people who have successfully quit smoking with the help of vaping nears three million, it is essential to acknowledge and celebrate the positive impact vaping has on public health.
Vaping, despite its detractors, is emerging as one of the most effective tools available to help people quit smoking.
Traditional smoking cessation aids, such as nicotine patches and gum, have often proved ineffective for many smokers.
In contrast, vaping not only addresses the physical addiction to nicotine but also satisfies the behavioral aspects of smoking, such as the hand-to-mouth action and the exhalation of smoke.
This dual-action approach is a crucial factor in the higher success rates observed in those using vaping to quit smoking.
The ASH report’s findings resonate with the experiences of many ex-smokers who have successfully transitioned to vaping.
These individuals through online testimonials often report feeling healthier, experiencing fewer respiratory issues, and having more energy.
For them, vaping has been a lifeline, enabling them to enjoy a smoke-free life without the severe withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking abruptly.
By providing a less harmful alternative to cigarettes, vaping has become a valuable ally in the fight against the global smoking epidemic.
Smoking-related illnesses and diseases place a significant burden on healthcare systems, costing billions in treatment and lost productivity annually.
By helping millions quit smoking, vaping not only saves lives but also reduces healthcare costs and improves the overall health of the population.
As a result, the positive implications of the ASH report extend beyond individual smokers and reach into the broader societal and economic spheres.
Critics of vaping often point to the potential risks associated with long-term use. However, it is essential to consider the relative harm of vaping compared to smoking.
Public Health England and other reputable health organisations have consistently reported that vaping is significantly less harmful than smoking.
While more research is needed to fully understand the long-term effects of vaping, the consensus in the scientific community is that the benefits of vaping as a smoking cessation tool far outweigh the potential risks.
As we continue to grapple with the devastating effects of smoking, it is imperative to support and promote the use of effective smoking cessation tools like vaping.
By recognising and embracing the role of vaping in helping millions quit smoking, policymakers, health professionals, and the public can work together to reduce the prevalence of smoking and improve public health outcomes.
Encouraging the responsible use of vaping as a smoking cessation aid can help us move towards a smoke-free future, where the detrimental impacts of smoking are significantly diminished.

HOW GOLD BAR IS INNOVATING THROUGH THE NOISE
A CONVERSATION WITH PRESIDENT & CMO, PATRICK TAYLOR
GOLDEN OPPORTUNITIES
We recently sat down with Patrick Taylor, President/CMO of Gold Bar, to discuss the next breakthrough from
The prices for these advanced devices have, quite frankly, skyrocketed. At Gold Bar, we decided that our response would be to create something truly exceptional yet accessible to everyone. Our goal is to blow your mind but not break the bank.
when the vaping industry is facing pivotal changes, particularly with the upcoming legislative phase-out of disposable devices. Whether people see this as a crisis or an opportunity, this regulatory shift offers a unique window for innovation and enhances consumer choice.
In recent years, as the industry has gravitated towards more intricate and larger devices, we’ve noticed that the consumer's needs have started to be overlooked, particularly in terms of affordability.
This was our starting point as we developed Apollo. We started by thinking from the customer’s point of view. We started with you. This device isn’t just at the cutting edge of technology—it’s also designed to be affordable. Apollo reflects our commitment to lead the industry not only in terms of innovation but also in making sure that premium experiences are within reach for our customers. It’s our way of enhancing the vaping experience, ensuring it remains both high-quality and consumer friendly.
We have all used your products and they are so high-end. How do you create premium devices and stay competitive on pricing?
At Gold Bar, our commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and unparalleled customer experience is at the heart of everything we do. With the Apollo device, we directly addressed our customers' desires for a high-performance device that not only offers top-tier quality but is also affordable.
As the industry evolves away from traditional disposable devices, we've observed a significant increase in prices among our competitors. Where disposables once cost five or six pounds, it's now common to see prices soaring to 10, 20 GBP, or even higher for more advanced units. This sharp increase has left many customers behind, unable or unwilling to follow the price trajectory.
In response, we developed Apollo to bridge this gap. This device is reusable and cost-effective, designed to deliver exceptional value without imposing financial strain. Apollo provides an outstanding user experience, combining advanced technology and ease of use at a price point that respects our customers' budgets. By doing so, Apollo not only meets but exceeds the ordinary, offering a sophisticated vaping experience that is both accessible and enjoyable.
What can you tell us about the future of vaping and Gold Bar's vision for next year?
As we look toward 2025, we foresee significant transformations in the vaping industry, driven by recent legislative updates. It is essential for us to foster a compliant, accountable, and sustainable industry. While we are encouraged by the growing focus on sustainability, we remain mindful of the rising costs that could burden consumers.
Gold Bar is synonymous with delivering a premium experience without imposing exorbitant costs. As we move towards 2025, our commitment is unwavering: to offer the finest products at the best prices, particularly focusing on our primary market—the United Kingdom.
With the release of Apollo, we are not just launching a new product; we are heralding the dawn of a new era. Our aim is to continue leading the way, ensuring that Gold Bar remains a beacon of trust, quality and innovation in the industry. We are dedicated to listening to our customers, responding to their needs, and actively shaping the future of vaping. We like to say that gold is as contemporary as Louis Vuitton and as timeless as the pyramids.
Thank you for the opportunity to discuss not only our products but also the broader future of the industry. We wish you all the best for the next decade and look forward to a thriving industry in the years ahead!
GROWING CONCERN GROWING CONCERN GROWING CONCERN GROWING CONCERN
As bans and regulations come flooding in for the British vaping industry…many advocates are asking why the same isn’t being implemented online.
Words: Oliver Smith
The vaping industry has been marred by the proliferation of illegal websites selling high-puff disposable vapes for some time now.
These websites, which rarely enforce ageconfirmation gates, are openly marketing products such as RandM Tornado, Hayati Pro, and 24K Gold disposables.
These devices often contain dangerously high levels of nicotine, heavy metals and other unchecked toxicants, posing significant health risks, particularly to potential younger users.
The unchecked sale of these illicit products raises several alarming issues that warrant immediate attention.
One of the primary concerns with these illegal websites is the sale of unregulated and potentially dangerous products. This lack of regulation could mean
that these products do not undergo the rigorous testing and quality control that legal products do.
This could lead to the distribution of faulty or contaminated vapes, which have the potential to cause immediate harm to users.
Moreover, since these websites operate outside the jurisdiction of legal authorities, there is little to no recourse for consumers who are harmed by these products.
The absence of age-gate confirmation on these illegal websites is perhaps the most troubling aspect of this issue.
Without any mechanism to verify the age of buyers, these platforms make it incredibly easy for minors to access and purchase high-nicotine vapes.
The easy accessibility of these products online undermines the efforts of public health campaigns aimed at reducing youth vaping.
Schools and parents are already struggling to combat the issue of youth vaping, and the existence of these unregulated markets exacerbates the problem.
The illegal sale of high-puff disposable vapes also has significant implications for law-abiding vaping retailers.
These legitimate businesses operate under strict regulations, including age verification and product quality standards.
However, they are increasingly being undercut by illegal websites that can offer lower prices by circumventing these regulations.
This not only harms the legal market but also discourages adherence to safety standards among other retailers.
Moreover, the proliferation of illegal vaping products tarnishes the reputation of the entire vaping industry.
It becomes challenging for consumers to distinguish between safe, regulated products and dangerous, illegal ones.
This can lead to a loss of trust in the industry as a whole, which could drive away customers from legitimate businesses and push
them toward the black market.
Ultimately, the critical aspect of this issue is the apparent lack of action by enforcement agencies to combat these illegal websites.
Despite the clear risks posed by these platforms, authorities have struggled to effectively shut them down.
Unfortunately, many of these websites are hosted in jurisdictions with weak or nonexistent regulations regarding vaping products.
This makes it difficult for law enforcement in countries with stricter regulations to take direct action.
International cooperation is often required, but bureaucratic hurdles and differing legal standards can slow down the process significantly.
Also, the sheer number of illegal websites poses a significant challenge…as soon as one site is taken down, another may pop up in its place, often with a new domain name or hosted on a different server.

A RESOLUTION Bulletproof
With a rising focus from the media as well as growing number of cases across the country, are Spice vapes the new public enemy number one? And is there anything we can do?
Words:
Oliver Smith
VAPING HAS BEEN A CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC, BUT FOR MANY ADULTS, IT OFFERS AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL TOBACCO PRODUCTS.
However, the rise of illegal, dangerous substances like ‘Spice’ and Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) being sold through vape devices is casting a shadow over the industry.
These substances, often marketed as synthetic cannabis or powerful hallucinogens, are being found in vapes sold online, presenting a dangerous situation—especially when they fall into the hands of young people.
Addressing this growing threat is critical to maintaining the integrity of the vaping industry and protecting public health.
In recent years, there has been an alarming increase in the availability of Spice and DMTlaced vapes.
Spice, also known as K2 and
Mamba, is a synthetic drug that mimics the effects of THC, the active compound in cannabis. DMT, on the other hand, is a potent hallucinogen that can cause intense, mindaltering experiences.
The implications are serious: unknowing users, especially teenagers, could be exposed to extremely harmful, unregulated substances without understanding the risks.
These illegal vapes are often sold on websites that are difficult for authorities to track and shut down.
The culprits behind these sites exploit loopholes in the digital ecosystem, making enforcement efforts exceedingly challenging.
Often, these websites use offshore servers, making it easy for the operators to move their domains to different locations
when authorities attempt to intervene.
This cat-and-mouse game between law enforcement and illegal operators poses a significant challenge to public safety.
One of the major obstacles in tackling the problem is the decentralised and global nature of the internet.
Many of the websites selling Spice and DMT-laced vapes are hosted on foreign servers, making it difficult for local authorities to take direct action.
When a website is flagged and shut down, it often reappears within days on a different server, often in a different country.
This ability to quickly relocate keeps enforcement agencies one step behind and allows dangerous products to
continue flowing into the market.
Additionally, many of these illegal operators rely on payment processors and credit card companies to facilitate transactions.
The anonymity of the internet and the global nature of e-commerce make it easy for sellers to evade detection and continue their operations.
Law enforcement agencies are often underresourced and overwhelmed by the sheer number of sites cropping up, leading to a reactive, rather than proactive, approach to combating the problem.
Thankfully, a new initiative is beginning to show promising results in the fight against these illegal products.
Our Vape Advocacy (OVA), a coalition dedicated to promoting safe vaping practices and ensuring the integrity of the industry, has stepped up to tackle the issue head-on.
Recognising the limitations of traditional law enforcement, OVA has established key partnerships with both payment processors and web hosting companies, cutting off the financial and digital lifelines that these illegal operators rely on.
By working directly with credit card companies and hosting providers, OVA has been instrumental in identifying and shutting down the sites responsible for distributing Spice and DMT-filled vapes.
These partnerships have proven to be a crucial component of the strategy, as the team is able to take swift action when new sites are identified.
Through these efforts, OVA is beginning to make significant progress in curbing the spread of these dangerous products.
While the issue of illegal spice and DMT vapes is far from resolved, the efforts of Our Vape Advocacy are a promising step toward creating a safer vaping landscape.
By targeting the financial infrastructure and server hosts that enable these operations, they are disrupting the business model of illegal operators.
Continued collaboration between advocacy groups, law enforcement, and tech companies will be essential to protecting consumers and keeping dangerous products off the market.

Since day one, Geekvape has rapidly amassed a cult like following in the vape world due to their consistent reliability and solid craftsmanship.
Producing a truly massive amount of high quality devices, Geekvape caters for all levels of vapers. Today I’m going to be picking apart the very latest in the Wenax line of products, produced by the vaping legends themselves.
Familiar in shape and size, the Wenax Q Pro demonstrates both functionality and portability in one fell swoop, retaining a surprisingly hefty weight to it that I feel accentuates the premium construction that Geekvape is known for.
This pod system comes in multiple colours, that are neither garish nor overly intense, but varies enough to satisfy any vaper’s preferences.
Featuring a bright, bold and inexplicably crisp 0.96” screen, you can expect to see any relevant information regarding your vaping experience, including a puff counter, wattage, coil resistance and battery percentage.
On the subject of batteries, the Wenax Q Pro packs a real punch - don’t let this unassuming exterior fool you!
1200mAh is enough to last the average vaper a full day of usage, and then some! I have been vaping at 25W consistently and find a full charge sufficient for the day.
If, however, the battery does drop down to zero, it will power up incredibly quickly via USB C (I’m finding it takes around 30 minutes or so).
Capable of vaping up to a whopping 30W, the Wenax Q Pro truly delivers an intense and flavourful experience in every single puff.
Compatible with all Q series pods, you really can tailor to suit your exact preferences.
I found that the 0.6ohm pod offered the perfect balance between flavour and throat hit intensity, delivering a satisfying RDL (restricted direct to lung) inhale.
The line of compatible pods feature built in coils, eradicating the need for fiddly coil changes and potential leakages (of which I had absolutely no issues).
Simply dispose of the pod, once the coil burns out. I found pods lasted me approximately a week to ten days of moderate usage, although this can vary from person to person.
They are incredibly easy to see through, so you know exactly how much e-liquid to add, meaning I never over (or under) filled the pods.
With a super straightforward airflow control switch, vapers are able to modify the type of inhale to suit their needs.
I tend to keep the airflow wide open as this provides a relatively loose draw.
Sturdiness and resilience are at the heart of this device, and the rubberised base made sure that any drops had no effect on the robust construction of this kit.
The Wenax Q Pro showcases a haptic touch screen, eliminating the need for standard buttons, rather relying on a truly responsive and clear method of adjustment.
The price point on this device is extremely competitive for what you get (approximately £20-£26 depending on where you purchase it) and in my eyes it is worth every single penny.
I felt that the Wenax Q Pro offers a careful balance between simplicity and performance and therefore will appeal to new and seasoned vapers simultaneously.
I loved having the opportunity to review this kit, and I think Geekvape has got something really special here, and I’m sure many of you will feel the same way.

I found that the pod sometimes rattled a little bit, but this was rectified when I changed to a new pod.

Another incredible rendition from the OG vape gods themselves, Vaporesso has truly outdone themselves with this cracking little device.
Following along in the XROS line, we’ve had the XROS 4, the XROS 4 Mini, and now, the XROS 4 Nano.
Vaporesso has graced us with a hefty 1350mAh in built battery, and switched over from the rather commonplace pen/bar shape to more of a square form factor.
Retaining the smooth but intense vaping experience found in previous devices, it was a blessing to be able to enjoy the quality that Vaporesso is known for.
As mentioned, the XROS 4 Nano takes form in the shape of a square, I noticed that it was a little bigger in size when compared to other square shaped pod systems, but that is likely due to the fact that this device packs a punch in the way of battery capacity.
It will be available in a bunch of awesome colours and finishes, so there’ll be something for everyone. The XROS 4 Nano also features an airflow control sliding switch, a connection for lanyards and a USB C charging port.
One of the most noticeable differences you’ll see though, is the rounded, colour 1.3” TFT screen.
The addition of the screen allows you to check up on your usual parameters, such as coil resistance, wattage, battery life and a puff counter.
For the first time in this generation of XROS devices, the Nano is capable of specific wattage adjustments, fully catering to your ideal preferences and refining your experience whilst vaping.
Depending on your coil choice, the wattage range on this device goes all the way up to an impressive 30W.
The XROS 4 Nano enlists the use of both original XROS pods as well as the newer Corex Mesh Pods (the same ones used with the XROS 4 & XROS 4 Mini) and they are available in several different resistances.
I felt I enjoyed the 0.4ohm pod best, as it provided the most flavour and strongest throat hit.
I would describe the inhale as a restricted direct to lung (my personal preference) but the higher the resistance goes, the tighter the draw is.
You can easily fine tune the type of inhale by simply sliding the airflow control switch on the side of the device.
Due to the fact that these pods have built in coils, you needn’t worry about fiddly coil changes and once the coil inside the pod burns out, it’s time to dispose of it.
On average, I would say one 0.4ohm pod lasted me the best part of a week, but I didn’t really get a burning taste, rather the flavour seemed to dissipate a little, and if I’m honest I probably could’ve pushed it a bit further.
One of my favourite things about this kit is its incredibly substantial 1350mAh built in battery.
Not only will this last you at least a day’s worth of
moderate vaping, the charge time is insane.
Powered up via USB C, 2A fast charging, the device can get up to 80% in a mere 20 minutes, ensuring you are never left without your trusty vaping sidekick.
With a surprisingly robust shape and weight, this kit easily survived a short drop when (clumsily) knocked off of a table.
To me, there were no faults at all, the XROS 4 Nano held up on all aspects, perfect for novice and seasoned vapers alike.
Offering a high level of customisation in the form of adjustable wattage, pod resistances and airflow options, you can really tailor it to suit your precise needs and/or preferences.
I didn’t think the XROS 4 line could get any better, but this device has knocked it out of the park and then some.
I really, really enjoyed putting the XROS 4 Nano through its paces, and it delivered on all levels.
