CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Welcome to 2022! Happy New Year to all! Just before the holiday break we had Santa visit the children at the Christmas picnic at Cutler Park. This was a great day with egg throwing competitions, sack races, tug of war, candy floss, truck and train rides and of course a ride in our newly fixed fire engine! It was lovely to see the excited faces – which weren’t only from the children. With this being the season for picnics we had the Boxing Day one at Ouruhia Domain, New Year’s Day at Little River (which I understand was huge – this year) and of course our own “Picnic Run” to Orton Bradley Park organised by John Kuipers. 56 cars travelled to New Plymouth to the Vero – International Festival of Motoring rally. The week was full of sunshine, great rallies, fierce discussions (regarding rally directions), evening entertainment and lots of laughter! The car parade in Inglewood was a real highlight. The council closed the street and put on a band. We parked down the main streets whilst the local car enthusiasts had a good look and the rally participants enjoyed the food and a cold beer/wine. Great for us and the town needing an injection of tourist dollars. They made us so welcome it was overwhelming. Well done to the New Plymouth team who organised it! Things coming up: Saturday 5th February 2022 – Commercial Annual Rally – Neil Shaskey Saturday 12th February 2022 – Boot Fair Sunday 13th February 2022 – Moped Run Sunday 19th February 2022 – Clip on Run Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th February 2022 – Branch Annual Rally –Katryna Shaw With unsettling times of Covid and variant Omicron we are endeavouring to keep all rallies going for those who are fully vaccinated. If numbers are over 100 people, we are looking at separating people into PODs to ensure safety. Remember cancellations will be put on the website Please if you are well and want to come – Enter!
