Her Path to Couture Greatness; a Peek Inside the World of Kathleen Tinkler

W

alking into her studio is an experience like none other. Mannequins dressed in beautiful designs are showcased on the main floor. Her workspace is unique. You hear the quiet hum of her different sewing machines hard at work; scissors are available throughout the area, easily within hands reach. Shelves of beautiful fabrics are all in line of site and her iron and steamer are on standby and ready for the final touches she gives everything she puts her heart into. Sequins, pearls and even Swarovski crystals, all twinkle with delight and catch your eye from their location across the room. It’s a girl’s

paradise. High-end personal designer, Kathleen Tinkler has a way of bringing what she feels in her heart, sees in her mind and what she knows her clients are looking for into a creation as unique as fashion is beautiful. Something wonderful happens when Kathleen procures a piece of fabric. She holds it in her hands and studies the texture of how it feels. She examines how the light reflects and understands its characteristics. The color speaks to her soul and before one can even utter a single word she’s already lost in a sea of ideas that flows like the currents in the ocean of fashion. It’s magic. It’s the courtship of fashion couture, handsewing and tailoring that’s only offered in the finest European shops, to which she’s become a master. Kathleen brings this talent to the residents of Arizona from her wonderful studio in Tempe with Mrs. Tinkler’s Evening Wear. She’s a beautiful diamond being discovered and my heart races with anticipation just wondering what she’ll come up with next. As I arrived to gather information for writing this article, she offered me a quick hello as she’s preparing for a client visit later in the day. Readying the studio to present her exquisite design, I was able to capture a few moments and learn what makes her such a rising star in the design world. Kathleen’s inspiration to be a designer runs deeper than any thread is long, it’s in her blood. “I worked right along next to my mother and grandmother as they created beautiful pieces for their clients.” Kathleen was drawn like a moth to a flame. She went

into the art world and became very well rounded through her diverse education. Her training in graphic design and fine arts earned her Associates of Arts Degree from Notre-Dame-de-Foy and prestigious Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communications from her native home of Quebec, Canada. She’s well versed in culture as she’s traveled across Europe and studied the fashion world in areas such as London and Paris. Kathleen lived in South Africa for over 2 years and served an apprenticeship under an Italian tailor when she returned to the United States over a full summer before fully going into business for herself and launching Mrs. Tinkler’s Evening Wear. The training with him hasn’t stopped yet. “He is always there when I need him” she giggles. “We have weekly chit chat’s every Sunday.” Kathleen was also coached by a pattern maker and understands the intricacies of working with the curves of a woman’s body to flatter and accentuate through her designs. She longed to have all the right training to design and create oneof-a-kind accoutrements and bring her absolute best to her clientele. According to Global Industry Analysts , the world bridalwear market is expected to reach almost $57 billion by 2015. The market is driven by those that create the exceptional gown, as the gown is trending to become the main focal point at a wedding. Kathleen’s training positions her for success in this market as she creates stunning gowns that are unique to each bride and her dreams for how she’s perceived on wedding day. From princess

styles to simple elegance, Kathleen is the perfect choice as she fulfills every brides dream of the perfectly fitted and crystal accentuated gown. Whether she’s hand created one special from scratch or is commissioned for alterations and gown additions, her exquisite work will give the bride exactly what her heart longs for on wedding day, which is to be the star and center of attention. Kathleen’s design and services go far beyond the bridal market. Everything she touches turns to gold. Being a master seamstress affords her to offer services to men and woman alike. “Clothing makes a powerful statement about who people really are”, she tells me. “I want that statement to suggest confidence, polish and refinement.” She’ll create the perfect suit, vest and tie. Or maybe it’s just adding extra special touches to a hat or accessory. Sassy cocktail dresses or polished business attire. She’ll even work with existing pieces. “I love to repurpose clothing that’s currently in your closet and use it to recreate something wonderful for you to continue to enjoy for years to come. Maybe it doesn’t fit any longer; we can do something about that. Bring it to me…let’s get started” she says with excitement. Nothing is beyond her expertise. After discovering who Kathleen Tinkler really is, I’m in complete awe of her talent and abilities. My mind is wandering and thinking of the

possibilities, even as I write this. Her appointment is arriving and it’s time for me to exit and let her do what she does best. Kathleen is on her way to couture greatness and I’m so happy to be along for the ride and watch her grow. The images that you see on these pages are just a sample of her work. For more information regarding Kathleen Tinkler’s services, please check out her website at www.MrsTinkler.com or call her directly at 480-330-7471. Project Catwalk Immediately after my studies I participated in the RTL5 program Project Runway. A show in which twelve young designers compete for the design talent of the year to be. Every week, the designers run a command, then the best creation and win the worst candidate immediately sent home. I have in the semifinals to leave the program and I finished fourth after Project Catwalk am I going to make my first collection. This collection is inspired by Eastern and Western culture. This because I approached the Fashion event'' Dutch Fashion Meets Marrakech'' to judge. This is a design competition in which aspiring designers were commissioned to Western culture to mix with the Oriental. If opening of the show I handled my own collection. A very feminine and elegant collection. No collection for daily use, but consisting of evening and cocktail dresses, perfect for galas, premieres and other special occasions. For an impression of this collection you can see in my portfolio under the heading Mystic Beauty. The collection Mystic Beauty I was shown several times for the general public, which I have received lots of positive feedback. It's obviously a great moment for a designer to see your creations on the catwalk be showed to be well received. now I'm busy creating a new collection and I hope this will be just as successful as full Mystic beauty.

My name is Bjorn Kersten, I'm 22 years old and am in June 201 1 graduated from the Koning Willem 1 College in Den Bosch. There I studied Fashion & Design followed. During my studies I participated in the Netherlands 3 program "Xperience", a talent with the winning prize an internship at topcouturier Addy van den Krommenacker. The program started with students from all over the Netherlands.Eventually I left as a finalist in Milan and we were allowed within 24 hours of a dress design and make. Eventually I by Addy winner of the program, and have half a year internship with him must walk. I also have an internship at Bon Floor in St. Oedenrode. Romantic Encounters

A must have ebook for everyone by Stacey Blanchet Illustrated by Ildiko Takata

The hectic feeling most of feel these days because of work, kids, friends, charity and the list goes on leaves little time for that special person in our life. They are there for us no matter what and showing them how much they mean to us sometimes gets lost in the confusion. I had the opportunity to download Romantic Encounters by Stacey Blanchet and I will say it has given me ideas about showing the special person in my life some romance. I have to admit; with all the reading I do for work I’m not a big relaxation reader by any means. Stacey has written an e-book that is easy to read, idea provoking and beautifully illustrated by Ildiko Takara. Although it is not a very long read, it does get the creative juices flowing, I’ve even been practicing my lip syncing in the car much to the chagrin of my fellow drivers. To all of you that seem to have no time or have brain freeze when it comes to showing that special person how much they mean to you definitely get this book. Let the romance flow and have fun again. All of the ideas are easy to do, take a little time and actually will cost very little. Order your copy for only $2.99 today from Amazon; just search Romantic Encounters by Stacey Blanchet.

Blue Lady By Nina Pak

We would like to welcome Nina Pak back to Vedere Magazine after a noticed absence from the pages. Talking to Nina, she has been helping an ill mother for the last couple of months and as always family comes first. When we talked last she told me about a shoot she did called Blue Lady explores the National Gallery. Seeing the images blew me away and when I heard the story behind them it was a sure bet readers would appreciate the story and the images. Here is the story in Nina’s own words: I just edited some images from my trip to Washington DC. There is a story to this shoot. I tripped and fell, landing on one knee and my camera hit the edge of the table, and my head hit the camera lens, cutting deep into my forehead above the right eye, it bled a lot. I landed awkwardly trying to save the camera, but it was still a loss. I bandaged my eye, and finished the shoot using my i-pad 3. The images are soft, they don't have the quality I am used to with my professional cameras, however the model is amazing, and we shot at the national art gallery, The series is so wonderful in content that maybe the softness can be forgiven. Nina, no forgiveness needed for the images. You found a way to create incredible images with the tools you had. Congratulations!

Victorian I was contacted by Alison who operates CPM studios out of a very lovely Victorian home in Winchester Virginia about the possibility of using the location for a shoot. I am a lover of antiquity both in terms of historical period as well architecture and antiques. So I wanted to shoot a Victorian themed period piece in this location. The environment is very lovely and provided the inspiration that drove the shoot plan and execution. The period styling and accessories, hair and makeup were perfect for this concept. I think that we were successful in capturing a lovely flow and mood for this set. Credits: Model: Katlin Sumners Hair and Makeup: Model Ready Styling; Model Trends Photographer: Fotografica Gregor

ometimes you just get lucky. I certainly did when Crystal Burkholder invited me to photograph her at her residence. Crystal herself is a compelling visage – tall and tanned and pierced and inked. You would fail to notice her only if you lacked a pulse. Yet, if somehow you expected her residence to be a punk rock emporium, you would be so wrong. Crystal’s portal is the entryway to a time machine – straight out of the 1950s. She lives the Vintage Life – from her Kodak box camera to her retro butterfly pillows to the Century fan on her nightstand. She has created a sumptuous retreat from modern life in deep, comforting jewel tones – rich rubies, smoky blacks, deep chocolates, piquant ambers, and vibrant oranges. Come with me as we get lost in Crystal’s world – her home and her wardrobe. And Crystal’s eyes – it is said if you stare into her eyes long and deeply enough, you can see 1954. I know I did!!! F

ashion has been often known for making a statement intentionally and not intentionally. This occurs in other forms of media all the time, through commercials, films/movies, articles, news, online and more. While to the experienced Fashionista, Fashion can never be boring; sometimes, looking at similar types of photos can be. In an attempt to push the bar from both sides, a challenge was issued calling on interesting dynamics from the model and photographer involved. The idea was formed around using Fashion and the introduction of a story through portraying feelings or emotions that required acting and some form of transformation.

Another technical aspect was added to the challenge which included the use of only one light to further enhance the photography capturing the story being told. Sometimes it is best to leave the rest of the story to be told without the use of words. Gwen Merriman, of Deeeliteful Images, captured the following story. We will leave these photos for you to view for your interpretation and understanding. Just know that sometimes there are no words that can express the message or the feelings better than a picture can. Photographer Bio: Gwen Merriman is known as a groovy photographer who is the very definition of fun-loving and is outgoing enough to model in front of the camera sometimes, too. Gwen is a professional photographer who started officially doing photography since 2006, but always had a camera in her hands since she was a little girl. She is very dynamic when it comes to honing her photography skills and feels fortunate to have mentors she works with frequently whether they be fellow photographers, models, or stylists. www.deeelitefulimages.com

Stylos Awards By Christina Moreno With the holidays around the corner, it is not difficult to be invited to events that involve charities. Tis the season to be merry and bright! And an occasional show that involves live music, food, drinks, awards and a fashion show was an event I wanted to see. It has been quite some time since I attended a local “award” show and Stylos was one on my to do list. I had an interest in attending Stylos for many reasons. One, this charity event had a solid intention to donate proceeds to the local achievement of young minorities in the community. Two, there was diverse talent being showcased and celebrated all in one evening and lastly, fashion..fashion..fashion. Located at the famous Phoenix Art Museum this moderately large event was in its seventh year in production. Unfortunately, this was my first year in attendance and did not have the opportunity to compare from previous years. Not to worry, I was already feeling the positive and professional vibe as I entered the museum doors. Greeted with genuine smiles and hellos my media credentials were easily obtained by the media director herself. Off to a great start! I proceeded to the main hall where a local DJ was spinning collective sounds as spectators awaited the award show. Slowly, but surly seats started to fill up and eventually became a full house. Awards, awards, and more awards! Local entrepreneurs, journalists, activists, and artists were

honorably recognized for being the “best” of the best or what I may say “popular.” Recognizable names took the stage followed by intermission which was included the awaited fashion show. Natalia Acosta, Giovana Aviles, Kactus Jock, Nostra Style House, and Buckle of Scottsdale were a fashion plus. But what impressed me even more was the great selection of models that were walking the runway. Fresh new faces and fierce walks were quite a treat to see from the norm. The vibrant selection of clothing to hair and make-up added depth and sophistication that brought Stylos Awards together. It set a glamorous tone that only a runway show done well could do. The evening continued with the second half of honorable awards followed by a Grammy nominated band “B Side Players” where attendees were encouraged to dance and celebrate the evening away (as I did). R-E-S-P-E-C-T…as the song goes! Behind the fashion there was a sense of togetherness, everyone humbly came together for the appreciation of fellow artists and community goers out of respect. I was thoroughly impressed by easy going friendly personalities from the moment I stepped foot in the door to meeting and making new friends to the end of the evening. A show such as Stylos Awards deserves an award of its own for producing a great quality show and providing well trained staff to make everyone feel right at home. And of course I will be looking forward to next year’s show!
