Taylor Brynne “Fiction – A Fashion Series” from the like minds of Clay Cook and Scooter Ray, is a fashion forward concept that touches on basic elements of futuristic themes and highly expansive digital photography techniques. The photographer, Clay Cook, first played with the idea in 201 1 , a project that would exploit a series of photographs inspired by films like The Matrix and Minority Report. When Cook decided to bring the series to fruition he brought Louisville, KY fashion designer Scooter Ray on board to create the pieces of clothing for the concept. Through many months and much perseverance the first shoot was finally scheduled and the first model on board was alternative model Taylor Brynne. The plan was to shoot the entire series over a 6 month period of time with 6 models total. The pieces of clothing would be sold online and available to the public for purchase. The first shoot with Taylor was a complete success. Taylor shined through the photographs in both several counterbalancing images, subtle, then manic. The “Fiction – A Fashion Series” continues to this day and you can see the entire series up to now on Cook’s website www.claycookphotography.com/conceptual Photographer: Clay Cook Styling & Wardrobe: Scooter Ray Hair: Tammy Wiseman Makeup: Scooter Ray Model: Taylor Brynne Assistant: Josh Eskridge

How To Tackle Your Skin For Winter b

By: Alyssa C.

Image by: Lightkraft Photography Model: Cathleen Flores VM October 201 2 6

The winter season can be rough on your skin. Dry patches, dry lips, itchy, redness, burning or itchy areas can really put a damper on a person daily lifestyle. As a licensed Esthetician I have many a clients who hide indoors during the winter months because they do not want to be seen in public scratching their face or body constantly and being stared at. There are many body and face products on the market but the problem is with all the companies is there commercials and smart marketing consumers think that buying all these products will solve their skin issues without thinking what they really need and why. A lot of people think Vaseline is the number one thing to put on your face for winter, yes it’s a great protectant against wind but it clogs your pores by not letting in oxygen into your skin and we know what that meansQ acne. Another one is Cold Cream, a very old back in the day cleanser that everyone used. Great for dry skin, cleansed off everything BUT made with Mineral Oil another clogging ingredients... So let’s put some really great product knowledge on your list for this winter to help you find the best products for your skin! Facial or body Cleansers that contain Safflower. Safflower is an Orange colored Flower in the Daisy family. Safflower helps contain moisture levels in your skin. Products with Vitamin C & E are also excellent for they nourish the skin and protect against Free Radicals. You probably are wondering what a Free Radical is, No it’s not a band or a 70’s movement... It’s a bunch of unstable molecules in the air they need to attach themselves to things to be complete sort of like feeding... by doing this they cause damage to your skin.

absorb better. Look for an exfoliator with the ingredients of Papain (enzyme from Papaya), Bromalian (enzyme from (Pineapple) which gently exfoliate the skin and Lavender which calms the skin from sensitivity. Masque are important to do once or twice a week Think of them as a boost for your skin by adding more water to help balance your skin during the cold winter days. A great ingredient to look for in a masque is Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid helps with cell renewal and increases hydration. Our bodies produce it as well. The secret to finding any product for the body is knowing your ingredients and doing research. Just because your best friend has a product she loves does not mean it is good for you as well. Remember it’s not always the glorious commercial with the celebrity putting facial moisturizer that good for you!! I hope this helped some of you with your winter product skin care choices!! Happy Winter everyone!!

Exfoliation is extremely important during the cold months because it sloughs off dead skin cells and helps any products you put on it VM October 201 2 7

My Journey into the modeling world came unplanned and stumbled upon me. I was an athlete growing up, raised in Sacramento California, with a plan to be a professional athlete. I never gave myself the opportunity to indulge in anything else because in my mind there wasn’t anything other than sports. I suffered some sever injuries during my high school days and had to come to terms with myself that my once thought mission was becoming more and more unrealistic. I moved out to Arizona to attend Arizona State University. During my four years at school I felt lost, not knowing what direction or path life was taking me. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon modeling that shined a new light into something I was driven to be successful at. I was a personal trainer at the time and one of my clients who had been a successful model in Las Vegas asked me if I had ever done any modeling. This sparked my new interest and made me determined to find an in. I had some photos taken to give me a start and then shopped myself around the Valley for potential Agencies. I soon landed a contract with Ford/Robert Black Agency. I was represented for a year, and once my contract expired I decided to part ways and move to my current agency The Deborah Maddox Agency. As a “greener” model I felt being represented by a company that was going to push for their models was a better fit for me. In this short time I have been lucky to land some large spreads with Sports Authority and Life Time Fitness. I have developed runway experience from Phoenix Fashion VM October 201 2 1 0

Week as well as some other boutique runway shows. I enjoy fitness, traveling, movies, and running around at the park with my dog Ruby. I enjoy print work because it is exciting to see the final creation of a photographers work, but there isn’t a better feeling then the rush I get right before walking the runway in front a large crowd. I have dreams of walking for top designers in LA, NY, and all over Europe. Seeing me on a huge billboard in Time Square would be pretty cool too. Although these dreams seem like they are a million miles away, with every step I take I believe that my hard work and dedication to succeed will get me closer and closer. VM October 201 2 1 1

Standard

Model

By: Melodye Joy

VM October 201 2 1 4

With fashion week abounding across the nations biggest cities, I need to open up about something that has always bothered me in this industry. Weight, height and the model standardQ. Weight has been an American issue for some time and it's been seeping into other countries as we all slowly begin to get accustomed to fast food, fast work, fast transportation and ever growing technology that seems to cease the traditional (books on tablets, school/work via computer, and just recently a self driving vehicle). In regards to fashion, agencies will drop a model for not being at an "ideal" weight and designers often discard models because they are not standing at 5'9" bare. What is ideal though? Is it healthy as Vogue once demanded of their models or is it underweight and underfed as Elite Models often deem lovely? Personally, I don't think that someone who is 5'7" needs to weight as much as someone who is at 5'2", between 98-1 1 2lbs. That is

healthy or at best an okay weight for a petite, but it's killing someone who's of an Amazon proportion! Maybe you don't notice it at first, but when you’re older, what about heart condition developing? Or can diabetes come about if you live on coffee, water and barely eat a carrot? Perhaps that is exaggerating but if I told you that all you will do is maybe gain a healthy proportion after your career as a model is over, would you actually listen to the dangers? Didn't think so. In my personal opinion, I don't want to see a runway or a magazine filled with skin and bones unless she's wearing a fur coat and a skull necklace! Has our nation, our world become so desensitized that we don't see the dangers of a thin model? Not just for her VM October 201 2 1 5

personal sake, but the people who view her. The teenager that has very little confidence, the woman who is struggling to be loved just because she looks differentlyQ.Maybe those who control the media and model standard have forgotten WHO views the models and deemed it best to make a model some unreachable, unattainable beauty that men desire and ladies strive to become. What about height? Should we all just get on the gallows and stretch out over the old devices of Europe's dark history and make sure anyone at 5'0" become at least 5'5"? This is ridiculous as standardizing or criticizing someone's weight! The ladies that walk the runway already wear high stilettos or wedges so why must someone at 5'2" be 5'9" or someone at 5'9" be over 6'4" tall? It's a false security, a false "standard" that few can live up to! And besides, if you can walk the runway just as well as one who is 5'9" then lets all get up there and walk it fierce, ladies! Be fabulous at whatever height you are and own it! What is "standard"? "We cannot in good conscience suggest that a girl who does not meet the height standards for a fashion model spend a lot of time, effort and money pursuing that goal when the probabilities of success are so very low. She is better off pursuing some other kind of modeling that uses different standards. " (http://www.newmodels.com/height.html) In my research I came across NewModels.com and their 'standard' is defined by sample size from a designer and that designer’s personal preference. So your telling me one day, a designer chose to use someone 5'9" or taller and the "standard" was born from there? I doubt that. Someone had to of written it in the rules of modeling along the way. The 'samples' that walk across that runway are sized smallest in 'standard' range, but VM October 201 2 1 4

what most don't realize is most people can wear the sample size, as they vary by brand. Your not going to see a Lane Bryant sample be of the same cloth as a regular or petite small, are you? Didn't think so. Then in reality is there even a "standard" or is this made up by the mass media and those who control the standards? Now, after you have taken the time to read this, take a moment and write down five things that make you unique. These can be physical traits, personality or style. Got them? Now consider thisQthose five unique things are what makes you beautiful! Being unique even in the slightest way makes you perfect! Who needs a standard when we were all born to STAND OUT. So, walk that runway and own that pose no matter if you’re strutting for fashion week or you’re bouncing into work/school! xoxo Till next time, All my love and blessings About Melodye Joy Melodye is a model, writer, fulltime student and works during the day. Mother Nature is not subtle – she recently punctuated the transition from summer to fall with a ferocious rainstorm while photographer Will Haubert and model Christine Hodges were safe and dry making photographs in the sumptuous setting of Antrim 1 844. A boutique hotel tucked into northern Maryland, Antrim is a feast for the eyes – a cornucopia of colors, patterns, and textures, all evoking classic early 1 9th-century style. Will is a Washington D.C.-based photographer who specializes in portraiture. He frequently travels to locations ranging from Richmond to Baltimore to Harrisburg. And Christine’s youthful appearance, copper tresses, and sparkling Irish eyes belie her entry into modeling at a slightly more mature age. Christine and Will specifically selected wardrobe items to complement Antrim’s interiors. As Will put it: “Antrim is easily the most texture-rich location I have ever shot. We picked wardrobe items that both complemented Antrim’s color palate and revealed a little of Christine’s impish nature. We hope you enjoy our images as much as we did in making them.” Credits: Photographer: Will Haubert, Proprietor, RedStockman Photography Model/Styling: Christine Hodges Location: Antrim 1 844, Taneytown, Maryland 21 787

This year, Phoenix Fashion Week, with only a few slight hiccups, successfully showed 27 emerging and established designers. From tshirts to wedding dresses, there was a little bit of fun for all fashionistas. Menswear was the biggest success of the three nights from the fancy, right down to the every day. Madison Avenue Collective, Café Bleu, and Da Vinci showed amazing men’s daywear that included closely-fitted hoodies, mix and match prints, and perfectly placed elbow patches. Elevee and Jean Paul Jeune’s custom fitted suits showed how every man should look, including an ultra sexy, scream-inducing bond-esque tux. Women’s wear held its own from OfraStyle’s tiedyed loungewear to SJ Couture’s perfect for a princess wedding dresses. Mabella Chic and Silvia Bours, two of last year’s hit emerging artists returned, showing their growth from budding to accomplished designers. While Joi by Jewel Oribe rocked the monochrome and Mariska showed us the fabulousness that was a mix of luxurious fabrics. There were, of course, a few surprises up the Phoenix Fashion Week sleeve. Who would have thought that Samantha Patterson’s modest wear line would make us want to cover up or that a simple shawl could make us say, “OH!” No one would have guessed that a funky chained fanny pack would hit the runway actually look fabulous or that a burlap evening gown would send us back to our American roots and love every second.

Images by: MichaelMeadowsStudios.com Designers Descriptions by: Christina Moreno

On top of all of this, we were privileged to witness an amazing show by Furne One that had us screaming for more haute couture! From the bustled waistcoats to the dress that looked like walking fire, we were on our toes and begging for more. Congratulations Fashion Week Team, on a job, we hope, you can repeat or possibly even surpass. By Angela Palmer VM October 201 2 61
