Francesca Johnson I am a strong and spunky female. I grew up just outside of Austin, and spent most of my childhood living in the country. Lake Travis and the woods was my backyard. Now I am a corporate travel agent. I get hookups on hotels for myself, but not really able to help with leisure travel for my friends... ;)

I am also going to school for software programming. My spare time at home is spent with my son or doing homework, typically. The best part of life is getting together with my friends and loved ones. You never know what tomorrow will bring. Living each moment to the fullest and having fun is my approach to life and love. Hair By: Gerardo Bracamonte Images by: Russell Klein ScottsdaleImages.com

Designer: Mariko Akimariko Photography by Nina Pak Š 2012 Make Up and Hair by Chelsey Bakers Models: Oksana Bach Stephanie Lavigne

Mariko Aramaki’s designs are soft yet bold, chic yet playful, and ultimately feminine. Inspired by beauty in nature, art, culture, and life itself, the whimsical elegance in her work is a result of pure love and passion for fashion.

She was known to be fashionable and creative from an early age, and her career goal was always to become a fashion designer. Born and raised in Vancouver, the Japanese-Canadian local designer graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design & Technology in 2010. Coming to realize her interests within the industry, she carefully chose her internship with local designer Manuel Mendoza at his custom bridal shop. She also took part in a summer study program in Lyon, France, studying French fashion history and textiles to deepen her knowledge in her field of interest. After four years at Kwantlen, it was clear that Aramaki wanted to focus on evening, bridal, and flamenco dresses – pieces where she can fully express her creative language through fabric and the ability to add a certain "je ne sais quoi" that makes Aramaki's designs stand out. Wanting to combine her natural talent and extensive training with more experience, she currently resides in Paris, France, in search for an international industry opportunity. Style...

I have three different Collections that are inspired by a unique set of materials in each collection My line consists of three collectionsPersepolis, Metropolis and Gaia. *Persepolis Collection is the Middle Eastern inspired jewelry with vintage coins and pendants that remind me of my heritage. *Metropolis Collection is with fire polished glass and crystals much like sitting atop LA's Hollywood Hills and looking down. Seeing the glistening lights that resemble a bed of gems- also known as the city lights sparkling so bright.

*Gaia Collection is made with natural rocks and stones, named after The Greek Goddess of Earth and inspired by my love of the our earth in it's most majestic beauty. The unifying theme is the method of making the pieces with wire wrap, a method I embrace because it makes each piece a one of a kind, molded by the uniqueness of the materials and my artistic vision. The piece are not always symmetrical or predictable. Each unique piece represents the complexity and mystery of the woman who wears it.

Wearable Art....

To me, Art makes me more thoughtful, it helps me to look at the world with grace and become more of a well rounded being. I use these thoughts to express my idea of beauty and elegance in designing each and every piece in my collections. Accessories are a way of helping people turn their bodies into canvases to express their own creativity and beauty. My jewelry can be mounted on a hang-able plaque that accentuates the pieces compositional elements. This allows the pieces to be appreciated in a more traditional sense even while not being worn.

Inspiration...

People, my environment and the materials I use are my inspiration. I am an Iranian American raised in Los Angeles. I love the unity of traditional and contemporary, the organic and the composite. We are not just mothers or divas, 9 to 5er's or dancing queens...we are all of these things and more... I want to be able to express that complexity. I want my jewelry to help them express that.

Who...

For everyone! My pieces are affordable and are for every woman, mood and occasion. Dress it up for the "red carpet" or dress it down with "jeans and a t-shirt"... you are still beautiful!

Next...

Working on a men's collection... I CAN'T WAIT TO SHOW IT TO YOU!!!! The unveiling will be for FALL 2012

Good Finds @ Good Will

Images by: Jacquelyn Phillips JLyn Photograghy

Fashionable parents tend to dress their children equally fashionable. Unfortunately that adorable toddler dress that can cost a near fortune from high end stores will be outgrown in 6 weeks or come victim to one of many stains. Add in frequent growth spurts and season appropriate clothing, parents frequently find themselves changing out the entire contents of a closet. Then as children become teens and equally style conscious, the value of brand becomes increasingly important. Luckily fashionable parents nationwide don’t have to spend a fortune to find name brand new and gently used clothing. Today’s mission, demonstrate that children ranging from age 3-10 and their parents can find a stylish, quality outfit for less than $10 in their local Goodwill store. Many parents succeeded by attending one of many promotional days that Goodwill stores hold over the course of any given month. A few of the brands on our models; Gap, The Children’s Place, Old Navy and French Toast. Brands that directly from the store can run more than two times the cost at a local Goodwill.

In addition to finding a cost effective way to dress our children fashionable, we are instilling value and responsibility by shopping at Goodwill. 2600 Goodwill stores nation wide accept donation of clothing and household items and in turn 84% of the revenue from purchases like these parents made are reinvested in the community. Since 1902 Goodwill Industries has been creating jobs, providing job training to those in need and supporting community outreach programs.

The mission of Goodwill Industries; “enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families and communities by eliminating barriers to opportunity and helping people in need reach their fullest potential through the power of work. (http://www.goodwill.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/About-Goodwill-2012.pdf)

William Maxwell

My name is William Maxwell von Isser, but I go by Max. I’m studying Marketing at the University of Arizona and hope to graduate in May of 2013. I am obsessed with fashion and always love to study the emerging brands and trends. One of my hobbies is thrift shopping and finding deals on designer and vintage clothing. I started modeling because I enjoy the competitive and classy vibe of the industry.

I am most proud of my self-discipline when it comes to exercise and school, because I always find ways to fight through the would-be lazy days and be productive. I hope to work with the brand Bally someday because I love their vibrant yet simple colors and designs, and they have had some of my favorite marketing campaigns in fashion. After I graduate I plan to travel and join the Peace Corps so that I can make a positive impact on the world before I start a career.

PHOENIX ROCKS THE FASHION By Angela Palmer

At The Hard Rock

A Charity Fashion Show to Benefit The Purple Ribbon Council

Photography by: Jacquelyn Phillips, Russell Klein, John Perrott III, Michael Meadows

Verdere’s very own contributing writer, Christina Morena, organized Phoenix Rocks Fashion, located at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Phoenix. The proceeds from this show and silent auction went to the Purple Ribbon Fund for Children, a nonprofit organization that works with kids who lost a parent to domestic violence. Along with the standard who’s who of the Phoenix fashion elite, such as local celebrities, Jackie Morales and Mrs. Arizona, Jennifer Olson, I had the pleasure of attending what I would call, one of the best locally run fashion shows ever presented. What made this show better than the rest? The audience was entertained from the moment we walked in the door. We were greeted with live spray paint artist, who painted two beautifully toned models. We also got to enjoy a lengthy set put on by local band, Scoti*Slate, followed by an on-time start to the fashion, a near impossible feat.

On top of the timeliness and the superb entertainment, the fashion was also amazing. We saw bohemian inspired designs from RA Apparel, new tees from Deeds of Love, and some newly released flowing dresses from Bri Bridge. We were also pleasantly surprised to meet local designer, Denise Lay, who presented us with her streetwear and wedding lines. Not only was she impressive in her own personal style, but also with her artistic use of bright color and accessories. She is truly a designer to stay on the look-out for. I cannot give enough praise to Christina for this job well done, and no, it’s not because she writes for the magazine. It truly was a night to remember and an event that sets the bar higher than it was before.

TAI CLOSET STYLING HOUSE

The ReBoot Fashion Show at the Renaissance Hotel By: Angela Palmer

This past weekend, I attended the Tai Closet Reboot Fashion Show. The only thing I regret about this show is that I wasn’t able to get there earlier to take pics of the crowd (definitely the best looking crowd I’ve ever seen in Phoenix). There was a smattering of collections in one big long show (which means I definitely can’t tell you what designers made what). Images By: Jacquelyn Phillips, JLyn Photography
