Micro Drill & Shaver System Micro Drill and Shaver System DT55-EX One for all... ...was the idea behind the development of this drill system, particularly regarding the use in ENT-surgery. Both the material and the console should be capable of mastering a range of challenges at any given time, whether there be a mastoidectomy with the usual otology handpiece, or the use of a shaver in sinus surgery. Importance was also placed on the aspect of a construction suited to meeting the highest quality demands for both the patient and the user, whilst keeping the costs within an acceptable boundary. The result of these efforts is a product whose extensive range of accessories make it possible to provide a comprehensive scale of usage, whilst offering exceptional value for money.
Simplicity... ...is the keyword in both installation and usage. However, the choice of possibilities and the range of settings are many and versatile. The second motor socket clearly reduces the cumbersome need for handpiece changes. The menu has been designed to be self-explanatory, preferred settings can be saved using the program selection keys. The integrated pump is not only an optically pleasing solution, it makes tube changing child‘s play.

Regardless of whether you require rotary instruments for your drill handpiece, blades for a shaver or even saw-blades, dermatome blades, rinsing hoses or a storage container - all no problem. The shaver treatment method, usually associated with orthopaedics, was ďŹ rst used for ENT-surgery in the USA, 1994. Since then, shaver systems have been developed continuously and are now established in many ENT clinics worldwide. The setup of all shaver systems currently available on the market is very similar: the console, a handpiece, a motor (integrated) and a shaver blade as the working elements. There are, of course, differences in design, accessories and cutting geometries of the shaver blades. This results in the blades and handpieces of other manufacturers not being compatible with each other. The indications for shaving lie in the minimally invasive removal of tissue in the area of the nose and the nasal cavities (e.g. adenoids, nasal muscle). The principle stays the same: Tissue is sucked through the cutting window of the shaver blade into the lumen. Due to the rotation of the inner tube the sucked tissue is then severed and transported away through a hose, which is connected to a suction pump.

Obvious or hidden metal abrasion: the instrument is blunt. Residual corrosion is to be subjected to a special cleaning cycle. Advanced corrosion (e.g. pitting corrosion), as a result of which resistance to fracture can no longer be guaranteed, inevitably leads to the disposal of the instrument.
Form and Function
Functional test: The inner tube of the Shaver Blade is locked into the outer tube and set in rotary motion with a finger.
Notes: Discoloration is not a sign of inferior quality, but does indicate that: Certain procedures are unsuitable for the instruments There were residues of impurities left from previous procedures, e.g. residues of medicine and cleaning agents There has been non-conform behaviour of the user, for example by omitting the pre-cleaning step in new instruments or improper storage.
Check if there is any bending. Difficult to rotate: the low-vibration operation or proper chucking in the motor can no longer be guaranteed.
Delicate instruments should always be checked with magnifying glasses (8 – 10 times magnified). All parts of the Spiggle & Theis Shaver BlZZes must be discarded together as a whole. Do not just replace one component under any circumstances. Lubricate the inner tube of the shaver blade with an oil spray to ensure minimum friction of the inner blade. Spray from a distance of approximately 5 cm. The rotation of the inner tube in the trocar leads to the formation of an even film between the inner and the outer tube which significantly reduces metal abrasion.

Preparation cycle: Every reusable instrument, new or reused, should pass through the entire preparation cycle. Each step is essential for the true sterility of the prepared instrument, so that the risk of infection can be significantly reduced for both, patient and personnel. Not macroscopically clean instruments are subjected to another cleaning and disinfecting cycle prior to sterilization, whereas instruments that are not fit for use must be discarded. If the verdict in all categories is „free from defects“, the instrument is ready for sterilization and can be packed in foil or boxes.
