THE VALUE OF PERSONALITY For this group project we had to design a sustainable collection. We wanted to do things differently, so we approached the idea ‘sustainable’ in a more emotion-oriented way. We thought of a way in which you would wear your clothes longer, extend their lifetime by giving them personal value. The next step was to evaluate what made our most loved clothes valuable to us. We all picked one item which had personal value out of our closet and we photographed them. Then we printed out the images of our valuable clothes and on the back we wrote down what made them important to us. Every one of us blindly picked one image, which would become the inspiration for our design. We all had to make one outfit, but the idea was to combine all of our outfits and create one collection with all the items that contain another story and another value. This project was a real challenge for me, because I had never worked on designing a wearable collection before. I liked working together with my peers, and I was also glad that despite the fact that it was more of a commercially oriented collection, it was really conceptual as well.

ANNA

‘My outfit is a reflection of Anna’s style and just a touch of mine. As an inspiration source I used Anna’s jacket. It is big, baggy and comfortable. I see Anna and her style as down to earth, playful and ‘flowy’, comfortable yet elegant. In my design I wanted to give an idea of the contrast between the heavy, but comfortable and oversized jacket, the playful buttons, and the flowy and elegant skirt. I used earthy colors because I think Anna has a very natural appearance.’ “ I bought this jacket a few years ago at a second hand store. It’s a man’s coat. When a male friend of mine put it on, I was suprised about the fit! The sleeves are short and the body is oversized. Interesting! I like the story of the piece of clothing, which man was wearing it before I bought it? What does he look like and what is he doing in daily life? This piece of clothing is also really precious because I like “real materials” like leather, because it stays really beautiful over time.” - ANNA FETTER
