Doublethink Encircled by the Wall

Doublethink means the Power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously. And accepting both of them. <<1984>> George Orwell The Wall was a masterpiece. Originally no more than some pathetic strings of barbed wire abruptly dropped on the imaginary line of the border, its psychological and symbolic effects were infinitely more powerful than its physical appearance. <<Exodus, or the voluntary prisoners of architecture.>> Rem Koolhaas

Most of the parks in Beijing are produced to achieve the planning technical regulations under the urban development at a tremendous speed. Mainly for the aim of beautifying city views, designers take the appearance of the parks more seriously than the exact users. Under this special developing context, most of these parks are scattered from other city facilities and residential zones. Scattered, is my keyword for the city of Beijing. Since the booming city constructions in 1990s, Beijing has been split up by the construction of ring roads. This planning model, copied from the Soviet Union, has long been believe to have the ability of alleviating traffic pressure, but causing the unreversed reality of scattered. Ring roads are the modern city walls, which segregated pedestrians and city life. What’s worse, old buildings and spaces have been tearing down, which mark the loss of t`he last refuges of traditional social communities. This burgeoning city devoured civic memories and exchanged them with blank parks. So, I find it essential to refill these blanks and helping us citizens to relocate ourselves both in the society and the nature. So, I picked the historical site of the Khanbaliq city wall as my scenario. The three key elements of this site are ‘walls’, ‘people’ and ‘Confession’. Now, they seem to have nothing to do with the others. But as we create a space, our lives are also put into form, and vice versa. We citizens could recontextualizing this space through our activities. So, the space is in flux, while the spatial power relation is also in flux.

Another story after two years

In recent years, Beijing has paid more and more attention to the protection and utilization of the ruins, and built several city wall ruins parks.This paper mainly studies the relevant theories and design methods of the site park and discusses how to protect and develop the site landscape under the new urban construction and development. Through the case analysis, this paper studies the design methods of the eastern and western heritage parks, and then summarizes the landscape design methods of the heritage parks.

the park has chosen three different types of nodes to design exploration, hoping to corresponding solutions are put forward on the site, explores how to optimize in urban construction and development of the ancient city walls surrounding landscape form, protection of site landscape. In conclusion, this paper studies the park-related concept, design methods, explore the method of rehabilitation and landscape of park use and discusses how to protect and use under the city construction and development site landscape, to explore a set of solutions of practice value.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China in Beijing on October 1, 1949, Beijing, the ancient capital of China for thousands of years, entered a new development era. In addition to solving the city's existing infrastructure problems, restoring the transportation system, urban water supply, urban electricity, and communication system, more institutions, workers, experts, and scholars need to be considered to enter Beijing to build the housing problem. However, I would like to try to discuss how architects in Beijing have imagined and practiced public space design in these decades of development beyond the residential space. So I will choose classic cases from each stage as an analysis of how Beijing has designed public space in each stage of development. In the concept of jigsaw puzzle, "danwei" and "Xiaoqu" are not separate blocks, these are interrelated like a jigsaw puzzle. public spaces are used to connect the users, new function could active the potential of public spaces.

"Sight isolates, wheras sound incorporates; vision is directional, whereas sound is omniddirectional. The sense of sight implies exteriority, but sound creates an experience of interiority. I regard an object, but sound approaches me; the eye reaches, but the ear receives. Buildings do not react to our gaze, but they do return our sounds back to our ears." Juhani Pallasmaa The voice of Zhuxi is the hope that Zhuxi can be used as a carrier for living habitat. Therefore, it is the principal design purpose to make Zhuxi a living habitat. Bringing people back to the forgotten nature through biological sounds teaches the public how to watch or listen to the sounds of nature to cultivate the perception of natural sounds and the protection of nature. After the 20th century, Tainan City, a large area of Land has been developed and utilized. Large areas of native land have been converted into agricultural land and farmland, and the population has also grown substantially. Habitats belonging to animals are constantly forced to migrate to the mountains. Studies demonstrate that 75% of animals live their life somewhere alongside the waterfront, and that 60% of animals do not leave their birthplace in their

lifetime. So once the natural environment is destroyed, the number of many animals and insects on the ground will drop drastically and the ecological chain will be ruined. Natural sound is gradually replaced by reinforced concrete. We gradually forget the appearance of nature. Garrulax voice is the most beautiful natural voice. It wants to live in subtropical and tropical shrubs, like wet lowland or urban parks. His food sources are insects and small fruits, which are consumed by snakes and goshawk. However, the conditions under which the three of them can be satisfied at the same time are limited at present. Their habitats are still found in several places such as Buckley Park and Zhuxi.

Site is rounded by sport park.Baseball field, soccer field, rugby field, and professional cycling circuit. Tainan's largest cemetery is located at the base of the southwest corner, is also the only section has not been developed in the public area.

Although this area has natural vegetation, it lacks the habitat of the thrush. After doing the thrush habitat research, we also investigated the noise around the base. Avoid this noise and reconstruction thrush habitat can make this beautiful voice be given.

This is a place could connects history, present and future in Dadu Mountain. The Dadu Terrace was originally the territory of the Pingpu tribe, “Lelien”, the king of the White Emperor. It had initiated a war with the East India Company and finally reconciled at 17century. but after 50 years Qing Dynasty conquered this land, and Pingpu Tribe started their exodus to other place. Chinese people who come from Fujian and Canton immegrated here and cultivated land below the terrance. But the Dadu Terrace was not good condition in red clay, and hardly to find water resource in the mountain( Ground water in 150m deep, started to use at 1960) ,the land could only planted with sweet potatoes and peanuts. During the Japanese occupation period 1895-1945, a large area of sugarcane fields was cultivated on the mountain by the Taiwan Sugar Company( 大日本製糖株式会社 ). After 1956 KMT party lose civil war and came to Taiwan, the largest military Qingquangang airport in Taiwan was built. Universities and industurial zone was built during 1955-1990. Dadu Mountain is constantly facing the trouble of development. Forest was ruin and Guinea grass take place and caused mountain fires every 3years. also dadu

terrace was deeply harm by Taichung Power station, which is the largest power station in the world and only 8Km away. Standing in the valley of Dadu terrace, all of these feelings will come to my mind and people who live here, I’m focus on waking up people’s awareness of enviroment here and love this land.

The Idea of the course " Creative process", is based on an unexpected approach which is generated from the curious observation. The starting point is chosen from an meaningless object, consequently researched and developed in a ludic way, into an opportunity. ---- Paolo Burgi

My ten-year Hair dryer broke in 2019 spring, I demolished plastic outer-casing and take out the heat-core and became my object for creative process. It's interested to see and draw the object in different way, in the first week I tryed to use decomposition method to draw, like rotation, embed, pan, and tracied these flagments. At second and third week, I changed my mind and focused on a piece of heating core, try to add landform inside and re-think of the scale of it.

Dadu Mountain was a place where I grew up, on the top of the mountain, gazing westside we could see Taiwan strait, and could imagine far away is mainland China. gazing on the opposite, we could see the central mountain range. It's a platform which could create a connection between mountain and sea. used local materials to reveal the relationship.

How to join a new space reasonable inside environment is a big question. One of my experience which I practised on this platform was inspired by Castelvecchio museum, redesign by Carlo Scarpa. He was amazing to reorganize the space sequences inside the historical building with his strong architectural languages. When I was doing this project, many scenario Scarpa created arose in my mind, and I tried to transform the same feeling in this project.

The autocratic spaces are produced to make subordinates feel the solemn of the leader and the atomization of themselves. But when the youth generation gathered here for revolutions in the March of 1990, the calling for liberty took rooted here and there just like blooming wild lilies all around Taiwan. Through the movement and later activities, ideology state apparatus has been recontextualized, the subject of citizen has been reconstucted. But now we have reached the turning point to go further into the material level. So, I am now changing the exact space of CKS Memorial Hall and the way people seeing it to give them more reflections of democracy.

The place where Lugano as a city before, were below glacier millon years ago, the landscape in lugano is sublime and surrounding by alps, divided by a river which irragated agriculture hundred years. Our main goal by studying the green areas in lugano is to create a connection feature from the miniture green areas, considered horizontally, to the Main park area that is the vertical structure of the river. Inspired by the saying: All roads lead to Rome, the idea is to make a connection for the city via these green areas represented around from all directions. The analysis of the area pointed out that is mostly residential.

The landscape of Monferrato was form by vineyards and villages, cultivated by humanbeing.Vineyards are located on both sides of the ridgeline, and there will be farmhouses in the fields. This is a magnificent medieval pastoral scenery. From 1960 onwards, the development of transportation, the expansion of large cities, the local population went to work in the surrounding big cities. With the population reduction, the infrastructure of schools, hospitals, and post offices is not equipped in every village. The context analysis at large scales focuses on terrain, geomorphology and hydrology, as well as the characteristics of the site created by the wind direction. These factors determine the direction of the mobility network and infrastructure. The site is not at the traffic node so needs to have a specific purpose to go for visitors. Vignale Monferrato even if there is a cultural heritage INFERNOT as a tourism resource, but also need to pay more attention to the needs of local people.

My work is not about trends; it is about the search for an essence and the possibility of evoking an emotion, a moment of serenity, sothat as you leave a place you will look back at it, perhaps with some unanswered questions, and with a smile. In today's design, removing elements on a site is often as important as creating a dialogue betwwen the new intervention and the site. Simplifying is necessary if you want to transmit something. Paolo Burgi Lago maggiore never as peace as its mirror surface. Islands always been seen as valuable fortune for the richness people after Renaissance. But who owned this island, who owned bad luck.This is why i call here tragedies. This concept is an analogue of Lucio Fontana's Painting "Attesa". It's a line which connected two islands in plan and slightly cut two islands in depth to show intangible things which under surfaces.Tragedies in these islands are the hidden history behind each island owner, we analogue this idea and to show the hidden thing underground and also capture light and shadow in order to create usual feeling unusual.

The LOC Loreto Open Community strategy is to transform Piazzale Loreto into a social, multicultural, and architectural catalyst of the adjacent areas and neighborhoods. LOC Working Tables dedicated to specific neighborhoods and divided into cross-cutting themes (e.g. associations, parenting groups, traders) will be created to develop a schedule of activities and initiatives to liven up the square in line with their respective needs (e.g. temporary events, festivals, satellite experiences of neighboring weekly markets). In this phase, the two main targets will be the parents of school-age children and teenagers, who make up respectively 21.9% and 14.5% of the residents of the NIL population. The theme of "movement" was formulated as a thematic bracket for the garden of the future - in two senses: on the one hand, movement stands for the transformation process of the landscape that has already begun, which is to be consistently continued and made tangible with the IGA 2027, and on the other hand, the potential that has been newly gained after the end of mining is to be used in a targeted way. Chiari's Local Government Plan identifies areas of urban regeneration and renewal, parts of the city where the need to respond to a series of critical issues is a priority: the decommissioning and underutilization of buildings and open spaces, soil and subsoil quality, physical and functional conditions of public space, private mobility and lack of sustainable mobility, lack of urbanity. The general areas and specific areas of regeneration are included in the Old Town and on the border of the DUC Urban District of Commerce. The Ri-V'Oglio process is articulated in phases: from the mapping of abandoned properties and vacant commercial spaces in the historic center of Palazzolo s/O, to the mapping and collection of adhesions of potential populations interested in starting activities to reactivate the spaces up to the assignment of spaces for the rebirth of the historic center accompanied by public policies to support owners and new users.
