Safety while Fueling
Slipping or tripping has no preference when it comes to the workplace and all workplaces constitute a risk. It is well known by us that slips, trips and falls account for a significant part of all workplace incidents. Fall from the same level or less height can be no less dangerous than the falling from scaffold or roof, as striking head on sharp edged material or desk or fall into floor opening can lead a fatal injury. One of the best ways of preventing slips and trips is to implement a ‘Clean as you go policy’.
Lost balance Misstep
Slips may be more significant than trips and falls. While this point may towards prioritizing slip risks, it is very important to also deal with trip risks and fall risks. Missteps and lost footing or balance as they also cause of lot of injuries (Incidents).
Fall
Trip
Slip
The causes of slips, trips and falls may include, but are not limited to • In relation to stairs and steps, both ascending and descending can be hazardous. -
- Descending stairs may be more likely to cause accidents and these accidents may result in more serious injuries. As well as stairs and steps, ramps and kerbs also should be considered • Poor house-keeping & workplace layout – Either in construction site or offices, this factor plays a major role in result of STF. Improper arrangement of materials, power cords and Liquid spilled areas cause slip trip and fall • Vehicles could including vans, trucks, trailer and heavy equipment operating at sites, plants and workshops makes STF hazard. • Manual handling operations and Poor illumination are also the other causes

Safety while Fueling
Flammability is the best property of fuel when considered to propel a vehicle meanwhile its a worst property when considered with fire hazard. Especially in fuel stations the severity of fire incident is much impact than any other places. Every vehicle holder going often to fuel station and most of them filling fuel without switch off their vehicle’s engine. Probably they may not aware about the risk behind the action. Here some of the hazards and causes discussed to made aware our personnel about preventive measures. Gasoline Gasoline (Fuel) is a flammable liquid and gasoline vapors are heavier than air & it can travel along the floor to ignition sources. They are also highly flammable and can be ignited by small sparks and static electricity. Static electricity Static electricity is an electric charge caused by an imbalance of electrons on the surface of a material and is caused by the contact and separation of materials. The area of contact, speed of separation and relative humidity are the factors determine the amount of charge created. Causes of fire while fueling • Open flames (Cigarette or use of lighter) • Sparks from the engine compartments of vehicle • Lack of electrical continuity between nozzle and dispenser’s grounding • Static electricity due to contact of surfaces (can cause fire due to presence of fuel vapor)
Precautionary Measures Turn-off mobile phone before entering a fuel station or don’t operate. Mobile phones and other electronic devices may have the potential to emit electrical charges and should be left inside vehicle during fueling Always switch off the engine while refueling. Never allow sparks or open flames near the filler neck Never smoke, light matches or use lighters while Re-fueling The fuel system may be under pressure. If you hear a hissing sound near the fuel filler door, do not refuel until the sound stops. Otherwise, fuel may spray out.
Do not overfill the fuel tank. The pressure in an overfilled tank may cause leakage and lead to fuel spray and fire If a flash fire occurs during fueling, leave and stay away from the vehicle. Call for appropriate aid
