Know your safe zone

Stay Safe - Buckle Up! #mysafetymyresponsibility Through this publishmnent of G-SAFE, we would like to take this opportunity to emphasize on “Wearing Seat-belts while on move and sharing the fatal road traffic incident here again, as many of us knew already, to remind our people to overcome the failure. On December 24th, 2017, one of our employee died at a road incident, who was sitting back side (seat) of the vehicle (Pick-up), at the Ras-Laffan highways. Our vehicle was hit from behind by a third party vehicle (SUV type car) in a very high speed. Due to the impact, the pick-up lost control and descended into the side of road and collapsed due to multiple overturn. The victim who sat in the back side was thrown away from the vehicle (approximately 100 meters) due to the multiple times of overturn and succumbed to death. Meanwhile the other two men were escaped with injuries including the driver.

Initial impact of TP vehicle on our Pick-up from behind

Know your safe zone

Stay Safe - Buckle Up! #mysafetymyresponsibility Causes of the incident • Over Speed by the third party vehicle (Negligence of TP driver) • Rear side passenger was not using the seatbelt (Compliance to this could have reduced the fatal consequence) After the investigation, yes, it has been concluded, absolutely it’s the mistake of the third party driver who hit from behind in a high speed. But considering the second cause, it clearly states that the individual violation (mistake of the back-seater who did not wear the seatbelt). If, the person who sat in the rear seat, wore the seat-belt that day, he would have survived and lead a life with us today. Hence once again, we emphasize you to “wear the seat belt when the vehicle in travel and ensure all the co-passengers (including rear seaters) in the vehicle have been buckled”.

Impatient on Road, takes you to hospital as patient

Quality Corner Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) What is ITP Inspection and Test Plans set out critical control points at various stages within a process. Each control point is a scheduled inspection or verification activity where one will make sure that things are progressing as they should be. An ITP translates the customer requirements (the what) into actions required to produce the desired outcome (the how) and couples with applicable procedures, standards, practices, and protocols to specify precisely what is needed, who will do it, and how it will be done.

An ITP may specify product tolerances, testing parameters, and acceptance criteria. While the terminology may differ, the basic approach is similar for all types of organizations.

How ITP can be prepared Identify the steps in the processes that constitute the operating practice or procedures of the organization (Sequence of operation). Desired outcome (sometime called as acceptance criteria) of the processes / products / services. Allocation of responsibilities, authority, and resources during the different phases of the process or project. Compliance requirement to specific documented standards, practices, procedures, and instructions to be applied or complied Suitable testing, inspection, examination requirement at appropriate stages Success indicator of the activities/services to be performed based on client requirements/organization requirements or both.

Why ITP is required Following benefits of usage of ITP, such as   

Assuring conformance to customer requirements. Assuring conformance to external and internal standards and procedures Facilitating traceability

Quality Corner Inspection & Test Plan (ITP)   

Providing objective evidence of the activities/processes. Providing a basis for evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of the quality management system. Detect the failure in early stages to avoid major/final failure of the activities to safeguard the schedule, cost of the activity or the project.

ITP can be used as a compliance to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management systems requirements Control of production and service provision The implementation of monitoring and measurement activities at appropriate stages to verify that criteria for control of processes or outputs, and acceptable criteria for products and services, have been met; ..." Release of products and services The organization shall implement planned arrangements, at appropriate stages, to verify that the product and service requirements have been met.

Monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation I.

I.

The organization shall determine: • what needs to be monitored and measured; • the methods for monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation needed to ensure valid results; • when the monitoring and measuring shall be performed; • when the results from monitoring and measurement shall be analyzed and valuated. The organization shall evaluate the performance and the effectiveness of the quality management system. The organization shall retain appropriate documented information as evidence of the results

II. Other than above primary requirements, many other requirements of ISO 9001:2015 QMS, can be met by effective implementation of ITP. III. To ensure customer confidence/satisfaction, ITP is very vital for the project

Health Corner - Cholesterol Levels

What is Cholesterol? Cholesterol is both our friend and foe - at normal levels, it is an essential substance for the body's normal functioning, but if levels in the blood get too high, it becomes a silent danger that puts us at risk of a heart attack. Cholesterol is found in every cell of the body and has important natural functions. It is manufactured by the body but can also be taken in from food. It is waxy and fat-like in appearance.

Types of Cholesterol HDL LDL GOOD CHOLESTEROL!

BAD CHOLESTEROL!

High Density Lipoprotein

Low Density Lipoprotein

Good cholesterol (HDL), carries excess cholesterol in your blood back to your liver where it’s broken down and removed from your body. This means a high-level of good HDL cholesterol can maintain your heart health.

Bad cholesterol (LDL) carries cholesterol to your cells. But when you have too much LDL it can build up in your artery walls, causing them to narrow. This reduces blood flow, which can be bad for your heart health

What causes high cholesterol? Obesity - Probably the biggest cause of high bad cholesterol levels, Having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater puts you at risk of high cholesterol. Smoking - Cigarette smoking damages the walls of your blood vessels, making them likely to accumulate fatty deposits. Smoking may also lower your level of HDL, or "good," cholesterol. Lack of exercise - Exercise helps boost your body's HDL "good" cholesterol while lowering your LDL "bad" cholesterol. Not getting enough exercise puts you at risk of high cholesterol. Poor diet - Foods that are high in cholesterol, will increase your bad cholesterol. Eating saturated fat such as fatty cuts of meat; butter, cream cheese, cakes and biscuits. Family history - High cholesterol can be inherited. This is called Familial Hypercholesterolemia. Diabetes - High blood sugar contributes to higher LDL cholesterol and lower HDL cholesterol. High blood sugar also damages the lining of your arteries.

Health Corner - Cholesterol Levels Recommended levels‌.

How to prevent high cholesterol? Diet - A healthy diet can help to increase levels of good cholesterol. Cutting down on foods high in saturated fats can help, and eating whole grain foods and fruits vegetables has been proven to help lower cholesterol Smoking - Smoking prevents good cholesterol from transporting bad cholesterol to the liver. Quitting can stop this from happening, and therefore reduces the risk of cholesterol related illnesses such as heart disease and stroke. Exercise - Being active can help to increase good cholesterol which enables the body to remove bad cholesterol to the liver. 150 mins of moderate intensity exercise such as walking, swimming or cycling is recommended per week. Supplements - In conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise, some supplements can aid the process of lowering cholesterol levels.

Welding fumes This article is adapted from online resources to provide an overview of welding fumes, health effects and the measures to protect welders from welding fumes. Welding is a process of joining two metal parts together by applying intense heat between them, which causes the parts to intermix after melting. The melting of filler metal, base metal and the coating on base metal during welding processes and subsequently the gases formed release minute, solid particles into the air creating a plume and is called welding fume that can be inhaled. All welding processes generate fumes, but most fumes are produced during electric arc welding. The thermal effects can cause agglomeration of the particles into particle chains and clusters that can be deposited in the human respiratory tract . Most of the fume particles are less than 1 micron in diameter when produced, but they tend to grow in size with time due to Agglomeration. Health Effects of Welding Fumes Fume type
