“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others ” . Jonathan Swift I understood the true meaning of these words while watching a talk show, in which they invited people who have given something back to the society by their simple work. The host said, “ Please welcome Divyanshu. He loves to do paraglide, swim and sky dive. ” I wondered what was so great if a person loves adventure sports. Then Divyanshu walked in and suddenly there was pin drop silence and everyone ’ s jaws were on the floor. Divyanshu was holding a white stick in his hand, he was blind. When asked how he managed to overcome this hurdle, he said “ I have lost my sight, not my vision.” a simple thought with so much depth in it. In life it is very necessary to have vision because vision doesn ’ t even help us fulfil our dreams but also guides us. If you have a vision, you know what you are doing, why you are doing it and how you can get it done. Attitude is extremely important in life. People with a positive attitude always look at a half filled glass with water and say that is half full, and not half empty. They fill the remainder of the glass with their hard work. On the other hand, people with negative attitude will always feel, “ Oh! The glass is half empty ” and they will never work towards filling the empty half. As Charles R. Swindoll said “ Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it. ” We always have choices in our lives; it ’ s up to us to take that first step towards our dreams. Salute to the Leader

Ralph C.Smedley was born in Waverly, Illinois, a city twenty miles southwest of Springfield. He remained in Illinois most of his youth. After high school, he taught schools in the countryside before enrolling at Illinois Wesleyan University at Bloomington, Illinois. After his graduation in 1903, he started working at the local YMCA. Ralph C. Smedley As Educational Director of the "Y" he discovered there was a need for training in speech. He began to design a club and struggled for a name. The General Secretary of the "Y", George Sutton, suggested calling it a Toastmasters club. The boys liked the name and the club was a success. At each club meeting, there was a rotation of duties with members taking turns at presiding and speaking. Short speeches were evaluated by Ralph and the other older men, and the boys were invited to join the evaluation to learn more. The club performed its intended purpose as leadership and speech

improved in

the other educational groups with which these young men were associated. The club only lasted a year after Ralph Smedley moved to the YMCA at Rock Island, Illinois General Secretary in 1910. A club was immediately organized and still exists as Club No. 1 of Toastmasters International. He introduced the Toastmasters Club idea and the first meeting was held at the YMCA Building on October 22, 1924. Ours is the only organization I know dedicated to the individual, we work together to bring out the best in each of us and then we apply these skills to help others." Ralph C. Smedley.

Empowerment plays a very important role in development of individual and a leader. The more he is given an opportunity to take his own decision the better the person he becomes and at the same time a leader. The classic example is the Toyota Motor in the corporate world – there the employees 100% of all suggestions were implemented by the management! Rather than regarding the line workers as drones, who had to follow orders without asking question, Toyota viewed it ’ s employees as Key Assets! Imagine the line worker ’ s feeling of empowerment, as they experienced that their opinions mattered! The result of this drastically different leadership style, Toyota ’ s cars were of dramatically higher quality than the vehicles produced by other companies. In the similar way we in toastmasters empowers its members to learn the art of Communication and leadership skills with the constant evaluation and the feedback and at the same time the annual speech contest empowers them to bring out the best in them Empowerment is essential to help individual to develop his skills and to contribute to the betterment of the organization be it a social or a corporate. Wishing all the very best to the Contestants of various speech contest and to all the members of the toastmasters

Dear Members and Leaders of Division E, I have been a fan of Qatar and its TAC-Q right from the days when Q and E were one Division. Even though now the conference name has changed to TAC-E, glad to note that the leadership and camaraderie among both Divisions is going strong. A contest is always a celebration of leadership, organizational abilities and teamwork not only of the organizers involved but also a quest for refinement and excellence of the members involved. Indeed the fastest way to the greatest improvement is to contest. Here's wishing you all a great conference and many more milestones in your TM journey.

TM Ravi Kumar Director, Division E

Flow with the flow …. My Dear Fellow Toastmasters , Let me take this opportunity to thank each one you in the Division who gave me this opportunity to lead this fantastic Division E that is one of the largest Division in District 20. Each one of us have joined Toastmasters for individual learning and growth to become better communicators & Leaders. But the real learning curve starts when you are a part of a team. Each member of the team plays a part in helping others achieve their goals and derives satisfaction – how profound is that ? This is the best part of Toastmasters that I cherish . We value each other, trust each other , help each other support and cheer for each other and that ’ s what this wonderful journey is all about . Division E has a fabulous legacy that has been set by our Past leaders and we have given our best to keep up that legacy and goodwill. I am fortunate to have a super team who had supported me throughout the year in conducting the various workshops , training programs and now our Annual conference – the TAC – E 2016 . Each Leader in our Division is empowered to carry out his role that brings about a feeling of positivity and self confidence in him or her. Once you have the feeling of empowerment you then start to take off in your trajectory of leadership upholding the values of Toastmasters which is Integrity, Respect, Service & Excellence.

TAC-E 2016

Message Division Director

Division E was fortunate to host the World No. 2 Champion Speaker DTM Aditya Maheshwaran who enlightened us with a whole new dimension of public speaking. We had DTM Mohammed Isa from Saudi Arabia who motivated us with his humorous keynote during the Community Outreach program . One of the experience that I gathered as a leader is a common trait that is seen in successful leaders is the ability to flow with the flow .Whatever comes your way grab it as an opportunity and make the most of it . Living life spontaneously in harmony with natural order of things. End of the day , more than how many meetings you conducted or how many accolades you won is less remembered but the team will always remember how you made them feel. So be a surfer, watch the ocean and figure out where the big waves are coming and adjust accordingly. I congratulate all the participants and winners of Club and the Areas. I thank all the Role players who assisted in conducting the contests. I thank all the leaders of Division E and my entire EXCOM for giving me unconditional support time to time. Last but not the least , I express my gratitude to the Senior Toastmasters who guided and motivated me in shaping me become who I am.

Best Regards, Ravikumar N Division Director – Division E, District 20

TM Dinesh Kumar Director, Area 28

I am delighted to convey my warm greetings to all members of Division E, District 20, for organizing this event and my best wishes for its success. I am confident that TAC-E 2016 will provide a platform for learning and knowledge sharing to remain competitive and move forward. Let ’ s encourage each other to unearth our potential in this 365 day journey. Share the benefits and experiences with fellow toastmasters, friends and family members. I always had confidence in leading people in social and work environment, but took back seat always when it came to presenting things in front of an audience. However, my journey in Doha Toastmasters Club has greatly helped me to improve and focus on specific aspects of the speech and how to address the audience. Like me, many would have benefited after joining Toastmasters Club. It ’ s inspiring to see members face challenges and move forward in a positive way to accomplish their goals. I still remember my milestone humorous speech- Serious to Humorous, I gave in Doha Toastmasters. That speech gave me confidence and made me realize that I can also try to speak humorously. Well, branded as a serious speaker till then. With that renewed confidence, I have now completed The Humorously Speaking manual and continuing with The Entertaining Speech Manuel. With my experience, I would like to advice members to know their weakness, work on that, relax and have fun with it. But please remember you are doing for yourself. Also, understand that the process and experience will make you stronger and a better speaker. I love the challenges for self-improvement and ever ready to help others overcome their fear of public speaking and leadership roles. My journey continues! I am still learning to be a more effective communicator and a leader.

Dear Leaders, “ M y meaning simply is, that whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do well; that whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself to completely; that in great aims and in small, I have always been thoroughly in earnest.” Charles Dickens in David Copperfield. As a toastmaster, we have taken up an important responsibility - a responsibility of helping ourselves and helping others. As a member of the Toastmaster Fraternity, our aim is to become a true leader and a good communicator, this will in turn help us making ourselves to meet the demands of the situation as a good employee, good team leader, good Manager, good employer, a good father, a good husband or wife and so on. As Toastmaster, we are committed to helping others in realizing their objectives – by attending meetings, taking up roles, and also by providing constructive feedback. To all true leaders of Toastmasters, let ’ s be member-centric. All leaders, right from the club level, should ensure that our members are getting the maximum benefits out of club meetings. “ L earning ” is the buzz word, if there is no learning, there is no Toastmaster. Happy learning to all!

Area 42 began an exciting toast mastering year, by electing the only lady Area Director in Division E. The year began with the customary joint meeting of the 4 Clubs under the Area, namely, Talking Matters Toastmasters Club, Doha Advanced Toastmasters Club, Wakhra Toastmasters Club & Dulsco Toastmasters Club. Great participation from the members laid a strong foundation for the year ahead. Area 42 was the strongest contributor to Division E as both the Assistant Division E Directors for Club Growth & Education was from our Area. All the clubs cooperated to attend the COTs & paid their dues on time thus ensuring Area 42 always remained one of the strongest Areas of Division E.Our best event was the Area contests & it was held on the 25 th March 2016 at the Olive International School. The feedback from the attendees confirmed that the level of competition at our Area contest was by far the best in Division E. Some glimpses of the same are below. It has been a wonderful experience to take up this role & I hope I have been able to carry out my responsibilities as per TMI guidelines. I am really thankful to Division E Director TM Ravi Kumar for guiding me throughout the year. A special mention for TM Shyam Sundar who helped me to conduct the Area contest – successfully.

TM Sudhir Gujar Director, Area 44 “

If you get out of Toastmasters all there is to get out of Toastmasters, you ’ ll never get out of Toastmasters ” DTM Helen Blanchard When I heard this quote during my Toastmasters adolescence in 2010, I could not fully comprehend it. “What is it that there is to get out of a forum where people only give speeches and others clap?” I thought. I pondered over my decision to be a Toastmaster for the next few days, until one day when my doubts were put to rest. For one club meeting, I was thrust into the role of the Sergeant-at-arms to cover up for the Sergeant-at-arms who was leave. That role taught me so much about organizing an event, albeit a small event but an event nonetheless. Arranging the meeting venue, coordination with the relevant personnel, checking the venue for Health, Safety and Environment aspects and of course, the food catering. Taking up this role laid the foundation to my learning and development as a Toastmaster. All of you are leaders, but in diverse, different ways. What you learn in Toastmasters helps you develop yourself into more able leaders. Skills developed in Toastmaster meetings viz. organization, speaking appropriately before an audience, planning, directing, et al are the core skills needed for dealing with any person or entity. Introverts can find the Toastmasters forum as a stepping stone to becoming more sociable and confident. Extroverts can channelize their already-available social skills and develop them for further success. After all, the mission of every Toastmasters club is to provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in self-confidence and growth. One of the greatest things about Toastmasters is the ability to grow, no matter what stage you're at. Imagine, being with people who are always supporting you, nurturing you and find happiness in your success-This is the culture of Toastmasters- Not only in Qatar but everywhere throughout the world. You can never be alone and lost when you’ve found yourself on the road called “Toastmasters”. I am very proud to be associated with Division E Toastmasters in Qatar, working alongside inspirational, hardworking and service-oriented leaders. TAC-E 2016 promises to showcase the best of Toastmasters in the division as they compete to reach the finals of the World Champion for Public Speaking which will be held in Washington D.C later in August this year. Enormous levels of planning and hard work has been done by the participants to vie for the coveted award, and your support has ensured they will be motivated for greater things.

“ T he best, win… and the rest, learn; and when the midnight oil, they burn, the rest, too, become the best ” TAC-E 2016

Message Director, Area 69

TM Justin Diraviam Director, Area 69

Rarely do you come across an Area with eight clubs under its belt but Area 69 had just that at the end of last year with its four new clubs. When I assumed my role as the Area Director, there was no way I could extract any more harvest in terms of creating new clubs. But with the help of Al Khor Toastmasters club which is the third oldest club in Doha and specially with the initiative of the mentor TM Sundaresan Subramanian, we were able to charter yet again another club in Al Khor – the ‘ Abha Ladies Toastmasters Club ’ , the only new club in our Division E this year. It is one of the most enthusiastic and potential clubs in terms of setting and achieving educational goals and I am confident ‘ A bha ’ , to say the least, would achieve distinguished club status by the end of this year. Another great achievement for Area 69 is Al Khor Toastmasters club achieving not only its President Distinguished status but also attaining 10 DCP by the end of December 2015, in a matter of 6 months. Adding a feather to its cap, it is going to get 2 more DTMs very soon.. QDC, a corporate club, has been under Area 69 for the past 3 years and it is definitely one of the liveliest clubs around that I have seen, with a young team leading the way. Tawasol Toastmasters club and Tawasol Ladies Toastmasters club are the offspring of COP ( Community Outreach Programme ) initiated for the local people by Division E officials last year and in particular by the efforts of TM Thomas Philip as the then Area Governor. Malayalam Toastmasters club, an initiative of TM Thomas Philip hasnow spread its roots deeper and I am sure it is going to fair even better in the coming years. We were also privileged to host the most memorable and enriching Division E grand workshop conducted by DTM Aditya Maheswaran.

Area 72 was the newest Jewel added to the crown of Division E – District 20 and I had the honor & privilege to rein over the responsibility. We started the journey with inordinate passion & enthusiasm. Four clubs had been assigned to this new born area, which included two newly formed clubs and two seasoned clubs. For CA Toastmasters Club & Aspire Toastmasters Club, it was a fantastic year and both the clubs made the considerable progress in this journey of improving communication and leadership. For the new clubs, we had the teething problems as it happen with any new ones but with the sheer dedication and support from the toastmaster ’ s fraternity we are on course to sail through these turbulent times. Overall, it was an amazing experience to lead these promising clubs. After joining the Toastmasters I got enormous opportunities to come across leaders and communicators from the Toastmasters fraternity from Qatar & outside. This experience transformed my attention and I comprehended that it ’ s Toastmasters International which has made these leaders& communicators and it can do it for me as well. Initially I was bit hesitant but with immense support from the leaders of CA Toastmasters Club, I took over the challenge to lead the Area 72. Now, I realized that it was a worthy decision because I thoroughly enjoyed this voyage. If anyone would like to change the way they communicate and has the zeal to learn the art of leadership, Toastmasters International is the platform. This institution will give you the global presence &hone your communication & leadership skills, which will make you a far-reaching person. I believe once you become a Toastmaster, you will always be a Toastmaster.

TM Venkatesan Director, Area 73

“ T here is no challenge is more challenging, than the challenge to improve yourself ” 2015-16 was a year of challenges for me and my journey as a Toastmaster on my self-improvement towards better communicator and better serving leader than I was. Toastmasters program gives each and every one of us an opportunity to realize our real potential and a chance to rediscover ourselves, the structured process of Toastmasters leadership program made me to realize this during the process of serving to lead the area 73, which was a new area in Division E. When I took up this role of leading the newly formed area, with the little exposure and experience as a toastmaster, I was not sure that I would be able to lead the area effectively. But with the support of our Division Director & Club presidents, every day was a new learning for me, which brought more confidence in me to serve as a better leader. Area 73 consists of 4 clubs Galfar Toastmasters, PSME Toastmasters, Qatar Tamil Toastmasters, and Sign Qatar Toastmasters. Galfar Club has already reached Select Distinguished status and on its way towards president distinguished status. Qatar Tamil Club & PSME Clubs reached Distiguished Club status SignQatar Clubs is very close to its Distiguished club performance status. The competitive nature & talents of each of the clubs were well displayed during the maiden annual speech contest of Area 73, held at Copthorne hotel on 1 st April 2016. I am sure that some of the winners at the Area 73 contests will shine in the Division and District levels. I take this opportunity to thank each & every member of area 73 and especially my home club, who motivated and empowered me as a leader to take up the role the Area Director of area 73 for the term 2015-16. I hope I was able to do justice to my role. Division E, TAC-E 2016 team is really worked hard to bring you a wonderful event where our contestants feel they are honored and all the participants enjoys and learn the maximum out of this TAC-E – Empowering Leaders. Being part of this great event TAC E 2016 as a PR Media Chair itself a great learning for me, once again as a serving leader. I cannot sign off without mentioning the tremendous support by our Division E Director TM Ravi kumar and all the veteran toastmasters and leaders of Toastmasters fraternity. Wish you all the very best in your Toastmasters journey, Enjoy the TAC-E 2016. TAC-E 2016

Change is Inevitable

Surendra Kumar

"There is nothing permanent in life except change," said philosopher Heraclitus. Others have called change or variety as 'the spice of life'. . If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There is no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go on. Says the Kung Fu King Bruce lee. Changes can be categorized under two main types. Changes that take place in nature we have little or no control over. We cannot, for instance, switch the time of tides, which anyway, wait for no one. The other kind of change is the one we witness either in political, social or other fields including the area of personal life. These are changes over which one can exercise some degree of control, changes which can be guided by oneself or others. As far as our human and particularly our society is concerned, there are so many things that fall in the second category and need change, be it in caste system, condition of the poor, status of women, dowry system, spreading corruption, and so on. Not that anyone likes these things to continue. Often the dilemma is, 'where to begin'? TAC-E 2016

Change is Inevitable

As far as our human and particularly our society is concerned, there are so many things that fall in the second category and need change, be it in caste system, condition of the poor, status of women, dowry system, spreading corruption, and so on. Not that anyone likes these things to continue. Often the dilemma is, 'where to begin'? During our life, we will make over one million choices. Some are big and most are small. Some we consciously make while others we put on auto pilot. Life is a fork in the road that consists of one choice after another from the time we are born until we pass on. All of these choices shape how our tree of life grows. 

Gain new awareness and understanding.

Find the courage to make that first step into an unknown future.

Build your confidence

Accept yourself and embrace who you are.

Become the force of change in your life.

Learn that it ’ s okay to not be perfect.

Discover you don ’ t have to be like anyone else.

Realize your full potential and be all you can be.

Learn how you can grow your tree of life, change your life and journey toward a better place.
