APOCaLYPSE NOT NOW

T

he Maya got a bum rap. You know what I’m talking about. Of course you do; it was all over the “news” in 2012: The End of the World. With a headline like that, no wonder the truth got swept away in a media storm. But hardly the crack of doom, 12-21-12 actually marked the end of a long creation cycle and, more important, a fresh start to the next one. It was a Maya milestone, not an apocalyptic prediction. Silly us. Always looking for the next day of reckoning. Anthrax. Asteroids. Eyjafjallajökull—that’s the volcano in Iceland… remember? Old news. Impossible to spell. It was supposed to bring Earth to its knees in 2010. Well, it’s January of 2013 and we’re still here. Even Iceland: “Pure, natural, unspoiled,” trumpets the Icelandic tourist board, beckoning visitors northward. In the Far East, Kim Jong-il morphed into Kim Jong-un in 2012 but still hasn’t nuked his neighbors to the south. Ahmadinejad is still kicking around too, taking national defense in the Middle East a little too seriously. Oh, and the almighty cyber nerd has yet to reboot the computer simulation we’re all living in—if that’s your preferred doomsday scenario. I’m not about to call hogwash on the Big D: the inevitable end of this world. But I’m not going to sit teary-eyed by the window waiting either. And I’m not alone. For this New Year’s issue, we pulled together some stories about people who’ve taken an idea and run with it—occasionally stumbling, even falling face first, but ultimately getting up to shape their own destiny rather than thumb-twiddling. There’s Nick Kodenko (p. 16) of Santa Paula with his new line of premium jeans, a spit-in-the-face to the down economy. Twenty-eight years old and just audacious enough to take a flying leap off Washington’s fabricated fiscal cliff. Soft landing? We’ll see. For now, the impetus is what’s important. We lumped Nick’s story in with profiles of Hannah Attwood (p. 20), the

mom behind Adore Diaper Service, and Michelle Stevens (p. 19) of The Refill Shoppe in Ventura, who, like Hannah, was tired of the disposable mentality so prevalent in America and offered an alternative. Camarillo’s Bruce Boring (p. 13) ran with his big idea 20-plus years ago, embracing a fresh, new thing called the Internet and leaving his printing career behind in a noxious cloud of toner. It took 1,600 customers before The California Wine Club turned a profit. But now—pay attention, this is the good part—Bruce and his wife, Pam, get to travel around the state drinking wine for work. Not a bad gig if you can get it. And you just can’t get it without a tall glass of gumption. Then there’s pugilistic property hound Richard La Plante (p. 27), who pulls no punches in his memoir about building the illusory dream house in Ojai. It’s a good read—yes, I actually read it, a little bit every night before going to bed. It gave me nightmares. Get this: He bought 20 acres of raw land without ever having set foot in Ventura County. Which means he’d never dealt with our notorious building codes. He’d never crisped in the oven that is Ojai in summer. He’d never worked with surfers. Shortly before the economic tempest of 2008, he rolled into town from East Hampton, New York with his wife, Betina, and their two young kids. What could go wrong? Everything, of course. That’s what makes the book so damn entertaining. And though it took them seven grueling years and countless hours of therapy, the La Plantes ultimately got the job done. They built their dream house, and they survived the process. Turns out it wasn’t the end of the world after all. — Matt mattk@ventanamonthly.com

Raise a glass

to the dream Camarillo’s Bruce Boring chose wine over whine, leaving his monotonous job to pursue a passion and chase his own wine-soaked version of the American Dream. By Mark storer photography by Gary and Pierre Silva

W

ine is infinitely complex. Subtle variations on grape types, fermentation processes, barrel aging, yeast, blending, bottling, and a million other things that can go right or wrong. For a winemaker, that is the joy, the pain of a craft that is part alchemy, part magic, and part luck. Wine is fascinating, and that’s before one even pours it in the glass. By the same token, the printing business—well, it isn’t. At least not to Bruce Boring. He was in the printing business in 1988 and didn’t particularly love it. It wasn’t fun. The competition was tough and had him working long hours on tight schedules for small profits. “It was just a fight every day,” he said. “I hated the printing business. I had 5,000 competitors in a few miles and it just killed me.” Boring, now 63, was looking for change. What happened next belongs in the National Gallery—alongside the image of IBM telling Bill Gates and Steve Bulmer that the money was in hardware, so they could keep their software license; or Ray Kroc opening a little hamburger stand. “An employee of mine got me a subscription to a wine club,” said Boring. The club, which is no longer in business, was called Wine Finders. “The wine itself was pretty bad,” he continued. “There was nothing in it that tasted all that good.” But it did give Boring a good idea. So along with his wife, Pam, and his oldest son, Jonathan, who has since moved on to start Social Spice Media in Ventura, Boring came up with the idea to start a wine club that featured only boutique wines. Using proceeds from the sale of their house in Arcadia and a loan from Bruce’s mom, The California Wine Club was born. “That idea took fire. We were packing wine out of our garage and shipping it out to people,” Boring said. “About a year later, 60 Minutes did a show that talked about the health benefits of wine and we saw a lot of additional business. Things took off then.” Still, they didn’t turn a profit until they’d sold to 1,600 customers. And once they did, nothing was ever the same. It is, in essence, an American dream story featuring all the basics: leaving behind what doesn’t work, embracing the new (like the Internet and online ordering), and pursuing a passion. “We did just that. We invented someJanuary 2013

Above: Camarillo’s Bruce and Pam Boring run a wine club focused exclusively on limitedproduction wines from small, family-owned wineries. Some 23 years after committing to their dream, the Borings now travel the state sipping California’s finest and the club has matured into one of the nation’s most respected.

thing from nothing,” Boring said. “And it’s not just us. We buy 44,000 cases of wine every year. It’s trickle down. We ship wine, buy boxes and Styrofoam, print newsletters… and that means more jobs. It’s exciting.” From a small home operation that employed Boring, his wife, and their eldest son, the business grew to a 25-person operation headquartered in 25,000 square feet in an industrial section of Camarillo. Now, almost 23 years later and with thousands of customers nationwide, The California Wine Club has become nearly standalone in its approach to getting unique, quality, and sometimes even rare wines to its customers. “Our customer has to be a bit of an adventurer,” said Boring. “That’s what it’s all about.” Indeed, Boring should know. He and Pam are first and foremost wine aficionados and their primary role with the Club is an enviable one. They travel throughout the state and taste the wines. “We love everything about it,” said Boring. He talks about a Lodi area Zinfandel he just tried with the enthusiasm of the newly converted. “I think Lodi may be producing some of the best Zins in the state.” Pam, who at 55 is a breast cancer survivor, shares Bruce’s enthusiasm. Together, they are responsible for all of the Club’s wine choices. “Most people who drink wine regularly don’t drink the same wine over and over again. We’ve found about 80 percent of our customers to be high-end: doctors, lawyers, and entrepreneurs. They have money, but what they don’t really have is time,” Boring explained. “They like to be able to taste wines they can’t normally get.” The business plan by which the Club lives is even more elegant than its customers. “When we purchase our wines from a winery, we purchase around 2,000 cases,” Boring said. “In the smaller, family-owned wineries, this is a huge quantity, which allows us to purchase at a greater discount than most other people.” In turn, the wines that the Club offers each month are sold at up to a 50 percent discount. For the small winery, which normally sells their wines within the confines of their

January 2013

own geography, the publicity they get from being exposed to thousands of customers nationwide is priceless. Each month, Club members receive two to four bottles of wine, a newsletter, and the opportunity to buy more wine if they’d like. Membership is free; customers only pay for the wines themselves, and prices range from less than 100 dollars a month to considerably more. “A lot of wine clubs work by selling bulk wine, private label stuff, and that’s wine that’s left over after bottling,” said Boring. “Some wineries will make more wine than they anticipated and not want to bottle it because it’s not up to snuff, so they sell that to the bulk market, and that’s what some clubs use. We won’t do that. All our wineries are sort of mom-and-pop or boutique wineries, and we deal directly with the winemaker.” One of the leftovers from Boring’s bad old days in the printing business is an attractive monthly newsletter. Working with an Oregon-based writer, the Club sends one out with every shipment, sharing stories about that month’s wines, updates on California wine country happenings, and Club news. With some nine different options, and working with wineries like ClaiborneChurchill, Tobin James, Chasseur, and hundreds of others—each featuring different wines at different price points—the Club is a “win-win” for everyone, said Boring. “We give a 100 percent guarantee, so a customer can stop at any time. If they get a bottle they don’t like, they can return it and get another.” Considering the high cost of doing business in the Golden State, the Borings have discussed moving. Perhaps Vegas, or Oregon. “But you know, this is home,” he said. “Our employees are here, our family is here.” And it is the California Wine Club, after all, a piece of the American dream in a state that has fewer of them. But it’s not all doom and gloom. The Borings simply saw a different future for themselves, and by giving their customers what they’re looking for they were able to realize their own dream. v

What are you waiting for? It’s 2013. Time to wake up and dream. Photos by amanda driver

Kodenko Jeans: Built for Speed I

nspiration comes in many forms. Sometimes it’s a story idea that strikes in the wee hours of the morning, or a brilliant business idea that appears during a late-afternoon run. And then there are times when inspiration arrives in human form. Take Nick Kodenko, a 28-year-old Santa Paula resident and the owner of Kodenko Jeans, an up-and-coming line of premium denim jeans born right here in Ventura County. Though this approachable, seemingly normal guy couldn’t be further from your stereotypical fashion snob, Kodenko is someone on the cusp of greatness, inspiration personified. Though the official launch of Kodenko Jeans began with its fall 2012 line, the business has been in the works for more than five years, since Nick, a college student at the time, designed his first pair of jeans. While it might seem risky to launch a premium denim line in these rough and tumble economic times, the wheels have been in motion for several years. “I just knew blue denim wasn’t going anywhere,” he says. “It’s been around for a hundred years; it’s not going out of style.” All of Kodenko’s jeans are handcrafted in California. He selects his own fabrics, most of which are imported from Italy. You won’t see any laser-cut denim in his line; instead he cuts all of it by hand, often spending quiet afternoons bent over the cutting table at a friend’s ranch in Ojai’s Wheeler Canyon. Each pair is sewn, laundered, and hand-finished in Los Angeles (delivered there in small batches by Kodenko himself).

16 | ventana | January 2013

Though he started this fall with men’s jeans, women’s jeans will appear in the spring 2013 line. His wares are currently available in nine international and domestic retail locations, with more on the horizon. So, what is it about his jeans? Kodenko struggles to put his finger on it, explaining that he simply designs pants that fit his look, his lifestyle. “I make my pants because this is who I am. I can only do me.” Fans of his jeans like them for their comfort, softness, and fit. Samantha Ranaraja of Spindle & Canister explains that customers at her Malibu store are drawn to “the great washes and simple clean cuts, and a quality that will last.” Kodenko loves them for the craftsmanship. “There’s something nostalgic about cutting it by hand,” he says. Though Kodenko contracts certain aspects of his business out, when it comes down to it, he is flying solo behind the scenes. Posting updates on Facebook? That’s his job. Designing his pants, handling all the logistics, coordinating timing with busy sewers, and working with the fabric manufacturers overseas? Those are his responsibility as well. He does admit that being the boss has its ups and downs. “When a store calls and tells you nothing’s selling, that hurts.” But on the flip side: “It’s your company. It’s whatever you want. That’s the beauty of it.” One of the upsides of owning his own business means the freedom to tie it to one of his greatest passions: auto racing. Kodenko grew up in a racing family, started go-cart racing at the age of ten, and then moved into

the open wheel Junior Formula ranks at the age of 17, something he still does to this day. Currently, Kodenko Jeans sponsors racecar driver Dane Cameron, with hopes of sponsoring others in the coming year. In addition to racing, entrepreneurship runs in Kodenko’s blood. Much of his inspiration comes from his parents. His father runs the family business, Kodenko Auto Parts and Machine Shop in Santa Paula, where he has been building engines for racecars and hot rods for more than 30 years. His mother uses the shop for buying and selling antiques. He feels blessed to have grown up surrounded by people doing what they love and learned early on that “nothing comes from being lazy.” While getting his business off the ground, sacrifice is the norm for Kodenko. Not surprisingly, he doesn’t get much sleep. In order to pay the bills, he also holds down a night job: test-driving cars for BMW, which brings his workweek to around 80 hours. And in the spirit of pouring every penny into his business venture, Kodenko is currently living at home with his parents. Sacrifice also means sometimes missing out on Sunday afternoons of beer and football with friends; but he doesn’t sweat it: “I’ll – Allison Costa do whatever it takes so I can do what I love to do.” Keep up with Kodenko Jeans online at kodenko.com. The new women’s line will be available locally at Tiki Girl Boutique, 451 E. Main St. #4 in downtown Ventura, beginning in February 2013.

Above: Nick Kodenko has been racing cars since he was kid. He has a night job test-driving BMWs. But fashion... now, that’s a dangerous business. Right: No laser-cut denim in Nick’s line of premium jeans. He cuts it all by hand at a friend’s ranch in Wheeler Canyon, between Ojai and his hometown of Santa Paula.

B.Y.O.B. And fill those bottles again and again, thanks to Michelle Stevens’ eco-friendly idea.

W

alk inside the long, narrow Refill Shoppe in the heart of downtown Ventura and enter a galaxy strewn with white paper lanterns descending from high ceilings. Welcome to the universe of proprietress Michelle Stevens, an idealistic 29-year-old who’s out to save Mother Earth—one bottle at a time. If you are anything like me, when you find a product you really like you tend to stick with it, whether it’s shampoo, dish soap, or window cleaner. Although I buy “green” products, I still feel bad about throwing all those plastic bottles into my recycling bin (after I have squeezed out the last drop). You might just take a liking, as I have, to this fresh idea: buying in bulk, from a local retailer, and using refillable bottles. The Refill Shoppe is an eco-conscious store that is “challenging the standards of consumerism” by offering quality bath, body, home, and cleaning liquids sold by the ounce. You can B.Y.O.B. (bring your own bottle) or choose from a selection of attractive containers (glass, plastic, and aluminum in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors) for sale. What’s on hand? Shampoo, conditioner, lotions, bath gel, bubble bath, dish soap, laundry detergent, window cleaner, massage oil, and castile soap. There’s even a baby line, called California Baby, as well as an array of bath salts. If desired, you can add a fragrance or essential oil (I love vetiver and verbena, but there is also absinthe, blood orange, and plumeria, as well as blends) to most of the products. An added bonus: all of the liquid products are made in the U.S.A. The Refill Shoppe’s face care line and cleaners are 100 percent natural and organic. The other products state the percentage of organic content. Many are more than 80 percent organic, and ingredient tabs reveal specific product information. The only product tested on animals, by the way, is the dog shampoo. There are eco and local products for sale as well, including miniature lunch bags and reusable sandwich bags, glass baby bottles, seed bombs (throw them in your garden and watch them grow!), recycled plastic bag wallets, and screen-printed tea towels. Stevens, who grew up on a sailboat and keeps her trusty dog, Sophie, at her side, was awarded the Bravo “Innovator of the Year” award from the Ventura branch of NAWBO, the National Association of Women Business Owners. The idea, which she hopes to expand to online sales and then into a chain, was “sparked in the kitchen, formulated in the shower, and conceptualized in the car,” she says, adding that it was “decision/grow-up time” for her. A good decision, and one that will hopefully go a long, long way. – Leslie A. Westbrook The Refill Shoppe, 1068 E. Main St. #100, downtown Ventura, 805.765.9135, therefillshoppe.com January 2013 | ventana |19

Hush Little Baby H

annah Attwood is a mom on a mission. Her goal: to help families “find the beauty in cloth diapering.” Sounds pretty lofty from an American perspective, but it’s a goal that comes easily to the woman whose company, Adore Diaper Service, has forward-thinking parents from Goleta to the Camarillo Grade smiling, not to mention a lot of happy rash-free babies. Hannah, her husband, John, and their children, Hunter, Sadie, and Eloise, moved back to our area after living abroad for many years. She learned about modern cloth diapering while in Australia, and cloth diapered both of her older children, washing their diapers at home. “Interesting fact,” noted the 34-year-old who opened the business three years ago, “Australia, New Zealand, England, and Canada offer subsidies for families using cloth diapers! When we moved back to California, I was surprised by how few families were using them.” She started Adore Diaper Service in the hopes that the appeal of having someone else do the dirty work might encourage more families to use cloth. “Our main goal,” she explained, “is to increase awareness about cloth diapers—and to educate, regardless of whether you are washing at home or using a

20 | ventana | January 2013

Moms and dads, don’t you cry either. A local family offers a fresh, new approach to an age-old reality.

diaper service.” Why, other than the fact that it is sweetly old-fashioned, would a modern parent opt for cloth diapers? To begin with, it’s convenient. Freshly washed cotton diapers that close with Velcro (diaper pins are old news) are delivered—clean—and cheerfully picked up—soiled—weekly. Perhaps more important, considering the current economic climate, is that they are ultimately less expensive than disposable diapers. And using cloth is better for the health of our children, and their Mother Earth. Here are some facts, according to Hannah: One child in disposable diapers will require 20 trees and 420 gallons of petroleum. He or she will generate one ton of garbage. Single-use diapers—more than 18,000,000,000 of them—represent between two and four percent of the solid waste in our nation’s landfills. Savings estimates range from $1,000 to $2,000 over a three-year period, depending on whether the diapers are laundered at home or with a service, and at what age a child is potty-trained. Need more convincing? Consider this factoid: It is generally thought that it takes up to 500 years for a single-use diaper to decompose. That

means every disposable diaper ever made is still sitting there trying to decompose, all the while emitting carbon dioxide and methane gas from a landfill somewhere. There is an origami-like folding chart on the company website that shows new moms and nervous dads how to properly diaper their little one. The company even offers gift certificates, a great baby shower gift for those of us who like to stay as far away from dirty diapers as possible. “We love diapers, but we especially love the little people who wear them,” trumpets the website. And so do we. Especially when they are clean. – Leslie A. Westbrook For more information about Adore Diaper Service, log on to adorediapers.com or call 805.641.0845. On every first and third Sunday of the month, the Attwoods demonstrate and educate at their store, located in Ventura at 263 S. Laurel Street.

Opposite: Hannah Attwood at Adore HQ, Ventura. Above and right: Softer, cleaner, greener. Modern, no-pins cotton diapers are better for baby and Mother Earth, not to mention the family budget.

one more Round

Possessed of a fighter’s spirit and the drive of an addict, property hound Richard La Plante climbed into the local real estate ring with a vision—to build the illusory Dream House. Seven years later, man and house were still standing. LESLIE A. WESTBROOK declares the bloody brawl a draw. Photography by Betina La Plante

I

had to search hard for an upbeat quote in Richard La Plante’s new memoir, a fast-paced read through his homebuilding trials and tribulations. Ever the dreamer, his aspirations are dogged by mostly back luck, with an occasional glimmer of the good kind shining through. There’s a sense of doom around every corner. But still, you just can’t help rooting for the guy.

than seven years and cost considerably more than expected, was certainly more challenge than celebration. It’s all there—some good, but mostly the bad, with plenty of ugly twists and turns— for posterity, and perhaps as a forewarning to others who might fantasize about building their dream house, in the pages of his book. Anyone who has bought or built a home can relate to La Plante acting on his gut, not to

“I visit the land many times in the last days of February, searching for a Zen moment. Sometimes I find one when the clouds are like silver gray snakes winding their way through the valley and the red-tailed hawks fly in dark silent circles, above the jagged Southwestern peaks. At those times, I remember our reason for coming here.” The author/publisher, former psychiatric counselor, international importer, ex-rock musician, husband, father, Harley Davison and metaphysics aficionado, and serial home renovator/ builder is no stranger to challenges. And building his current dream house, which took more

mention the reality of what that can do to a person’s life and finances. But the task was recently completed, and Richard, his wife, Betina, and their young children are finally enjoying the fruits of their labors. January 2013 | ventana | 27

Above: The straight lines and contemporary style of the living room belie an otherwise rustic setting. Radiant heating keeps polished concrete floors warm when the mercury drops. Opposite: “Fort Knox” ended up taking seven years to build. One year in and still smiling, Richard La Plante drives the first nail. Betina watches as the water tank is installed in 2007, shortly before the economic collapse. A curved hallway (bottom right) leads to the family area.

Mr. La Plante emailed me directions to his property. I wound my way up a mountain, and perched atop found his dream house—replete with jawdropping views of the Ojai Valley. The affable author and homebuilder, a fit 67-year-old with tattoos and the swagger of a boxer (which he is), greeted me warmly and ushered me into his home. But he had about as much interest in talking about this house as a man who has completed his last meal and is already thinking about the next one. The imposing edifice was designed by an eccentric, morning drinking and tobacco puffing Argentine, an architect who occasionally disappeared for months on end into the mountains of Uruguay. Although it looks like a fortress when you first arrive, the overall effect is much less foreboding as you work your way inside. There is a lot of glass, and plenty of tranquil water elements, including the infinity pool. A certain chic cool in the decor gives way to the views. I later found out that completing the project almost killed La Plante and his wife. It certainly tested their marriage. And he really didn’t want to talk about the process; instead, he referred me to his book, which I read in just about one sitting. From it, I gleaned that La Plante seems to have been hit early on with the “Keeping up with the Joneses” syndrome. Growing up on the fringes of Philadelphia’s Main Line, he credits his hankering to build a dazzling dream house (this is not his first) on a teenage incident where a friend disparaged the size of his family’s perfectly acceptable Colonial-style home. After an earlier marriage, which included a life remodeling houses in the UK, La Plante remarried and moved with Betina to East Hampton, where he continued down the homebuilding path. But ever restless, he wanted to move west. To be closer to Hollywood. And in a town where he could raise his children

28 | ventana | January 2013

comfortably. Betina was unsure, but after seeing the views she gave in to the Ojai project and agreed to leave their East Hampton aerie. An accomplished photographer who creates powerful black-and-white images, she kept tabs on the everexpanding costs and kept her cool (if the book is to be believed) throughout the bulk of the building process, which also included several moves between rental houses while their two sons were growing into active teenagers. The house is most simply described as “two cubes and an arc”—with an infinity pool, poured concrete counters, radiant heat concrete flooring, and a killer kitchen—but as Betina noted, it is the view that really grabs you. The details are all there in the book. And there are others from La Plante’s independent publishing company, Escargot Books, which has a small but growing catalogue that includes titles by Peter Mayle, best known for “A Year in Provence”; British actor Terence Stamp; and Andrew Loog Oldham, who at age 19 discovered the Rolling Stones and went on to become band’s original manager and producer. Escargot also reprints and publishes La Plante’s own books: eight crime fiction novels and three memoirs. Two are described as “motorcycle memoirs,” reflecting his love of Harley-Davidsons, and at least one was, apparently, made into a movie—though not by La Plante, yet another story that’s woven into his book about the Ojai project. It appears the author finally met his match in the form of a mountain and a dream. The house is complete, the memoir is published, and one can’t help but wonder what’s next. As I left his hard-earned abode, a light rain coming down, I watched the dreamer’s eye wander across the canyon to another house that seems to have caught his fancy. Once a real estate addict, always an addict, I thought to myself. One can only imagine Richard La Plante’s next act. I’m sure it’ll be a doozy. v

Island Treasures Through March 3 | Museum of Ventura County The beauty of California’s remote Channel Islands has captured artists for more than a century. See many of the works of art he collected, including studies, sketches, drawings and small paintings by his close friend Richard Diebenkorn. “Island Treasures” also includes pieces collected more recently by the foundation, such as views of the northern Channel Islands. The non-profit Santa Cruz Island Foundation, established by Stanton in 1985, owns and continues to add to the most unique collection of art related to the Islands, and this exhibit is the result of a growing relationship between the foundation and the museum.100 E. Main St., Ventura. For more information, visit venturamuseum.org.

Outside Time When Circling the Globe Through January 14 | Harbor Village Gallery, Ventura Travel and art are linked in the life of Ventura artist Fredda Leiter. “Each moment is connected to all others, and also stands alone,” she says. “A painting can capture a moment, engaging our eyes, emotions, and physical sensations.” Leiter’s small-sized watercolor paintings will be exhibited through January 14 at the Harbor Village Gallery, 1591 Spinnaker Dr., Ventura Harbor Village. The second half of the program opens with the first of two Duos for Violin & Viola of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Choice Opals One of the true oxymorons in the gem business is “perfectly matching opals.” In the purest sense of the phrase, opals never do match perfectly, except in the lower grades. So when I’m able to find a pair of opals that are bright, beautiful, fine quality, and come reasonably close to matching, I buy them. Now here is the “Choice” part: Not only are the opals “Choice” quality, we make the earrings with a number of choices so they fit you and your style perfectly. The earrings are #4 in my Pure Design series and are about 1 5/8 inches long on average. The length can be from about 1 1/4 inches, up to about 2 inches. They are available with diamonds as shown, with just the opals alone, or with most any color of sapphire. And finally they are available in yellow gold, white gold, sterling, or in two-tone. Please come in to see the beautiful opals and make your choice!
