SPONTANEOUS INTERACTION
R
ichard Barth hit the first notes hard, blowing double time, riffing like mad about jazz and jazz musicians and jazz venues and Ventura County jazz in general. The man had his groove, no doubt. It was April 8, 2010 and his solo—a scopious email with the subject line, “story idea - jazz scene in ventura county”—listed dozens of jazz bands and individual jazz musicians between T.O. and Ojai. I riffed back quietly, half time feel, side-slipping a commitment. Yes, I told him, a story should be done. But… dot, dot, dot. What I was really thinking was: too much info. How to distill all that jazz into one cohesive article? And what about photos? This thing was an octopus, a tome. And here I am an editor with but a few pages to work with, and really what I need are quick byte queries with tightly focused story ideas and this wild jam session of a pitch was just the opposite of that. Then Leslie Westbrook blew a change. She pulled me into the pocket with a pitch about another local jazz cat named Richard—Richard Tell, who’d fired up a series of live performances called Ojai Jazz Concerts. Leslie and I bopped back and forth, expanding the focus of her pitch and narrowing the focus of Barth’s. My emails were caveat-laden (“it’d require a lot of phone calls, quote gathering”), hers passionate (“the daughter of a jazz musician and jazz fan—and one who likes to keep jazz alive”). And that was just the beginning. The article (page 31) evolved as one spontaneous interaction led to another. The

creative process became something of a multifarious improv: a jazz-style jam, you could say, with photographers, musicians, jazz lovers, concert organizers, a writer, and an editor chiming in. Now that it’s all boiled to a crescendo and cooled back down, this soup pot approach seems entirely fitting. The Gentry Eagle story (page 12) didn’t start with an editorial pitch at all. In fact, the world’s fastest yacht, a piece of maritime history and an unparalleled blend of speed and luxury—which happens to be berthed in our backyard—has virtually eluded local ink. At press time, I see that a community paper has finally picked up on her. Good. The old gal deserves some recognition. After stumbling upon her haphazardly last summer, I was led by online chatter to believe that she’d moved to San Francisco. But a phone conversation with Norman Gentry, the boat’s owner and son of powerboat legend Tom Gentry, confirmed that she is, in fact, still floating right here in Ventura Harbor. As well as reaching out to Norman, I emailed the writer of a 2009 Associated Content article that mentioned Ventura Harbor as the boat’s home. I expected John Reinhart to reply from out of state. Instead, he wrote back, “I’m not only familiar with [Ventana], I read it pretty much cover to cover each time around.” And again the small world of synchronicity and spontaneous interactions exploded. — Matt mattk@ventanamonthly.com

It is with a heartfelt commitment for a cure that I have devoted my time to chair this event. Cancer does not discriminate. It will strike one out of every three Californians during their lifetime, and three out of four families. The American Cancer Society has programs and services available to ease the burden of cancer. Since Relay For Life’s inception in 1985 countless individuals, teams, and communities have worked together to celebrate cancer survivors and remember loved ones we’ve lost while raising much needed funds and awareness for the fight against cancer. Please join us, one person can make a difference! Last year in Ventura County alone over 3,000 cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers received direct services and support from your American Cancer Society. The World’s Fastest Yacht Is In Your Backyard
The little known story of Gentry Eagle
W
By John Reinhart
hen you first see her, you might think they’re shooting a James Bond movie. A hundred and twelve feet long with a prow that knifes over the jetty like a rapier, she is one of the longest yachts in Ventura Harbor. And length isn’t all that distinguishes her. A study in white and black, she looks more like a starship than a yacht. Look closely and you might see a ding in the paint, or a spot where water has gotten under the polyester and made a bubble. But these imperfections only add mystery to the glamorous rock star called Gentry Eagle. Custom designed and built by racing legend Tom Gentry—twotime Union of International Motorboating World Champion and holder of numerous powerboat speed records—Gentry Eagle is powered by 11,500 horses and features innovative design inside and out. Tom Gentry’s use of cutting edge propulsion, drive systems, and radical hull designs pushed powerboats to the extreme and garnered him a long string of victories and records. But the trophy he wanted most was held by the British tycoon Richard Branson, who, in 1985, crossed the Atlantic in record time, claiming the most coveted honor in powerboat-

ing: the Blue Riband Transatlantic title. Gentry met with the renowned performance boat engineer Peter Birkett, who actually designed Virgin Challenger, Branson’s Blue Riband winning boat. Together they came up with an aluminum deep-V hull, an engine room packed with two MTU V396 TB94s sequentially turbocharged marine diesel engines and a 4,500 horsepower Textron Lycoming marine turbine, and an Arneson surface drive strapped on the back. All that marine jargon has a simple translation: burning speed. To deal with the horrific beating the hull would take during a high-speed crossing, Gentry employed Vosper Thornycroft LTD, a company known for building destroyers, frigates, and fast attack craft. The boat was welded using a metalax sub-harmonic stress relieving process. When the dust settled, what emerged was the fastest yacht in the world. On July 25, 1989, Gentry Eagle left Ambrose Lighthouse in New York Harbor and blazed across the Atlantic to Bishop Rock on England’s Isles of Scilly with Tom Gentry at the helm. She crossed the Atlantic in just 62 hours and seven minutes, averaging 73 mph and shaving 23 percent off Branson’s time.

A spiral staircase leads to two formal staterooms.
Gentry Eagle went on to capture the Chapman Trophy for the fastest run from Miami to New York (nineteen hours and seventeen minutes), and the award for the fastest round trip between Nassau and Miami (five hours and twenty minutes). In 1990, Gentry decided to transform Gentry Eagle into the fastest luxury yacht in the world. He hired a then-fledgling designer from Fort Lauderdale named Robin M. Rose to do the interior. It was, to say the least, a challenge. Take for example the portholes Gentry wanted. During high-speed turns, each one would become something of a sea cock, an entryway for water. So Rose designed faux portholes that give the impression of ports without actually opening. Weight was also a major issue, as Gentry Eagle had to remain the fastest luxury yacht. Rose scoured the world for the lightest possible materials, and redesigned fixtures and furnishings for optimum strength with minimum weight. The redesign took two years, but the results were worth it. Gentry Eagle sleeps four owners and guests in incomparable luxury, and crews another four in two cabins. The master’s cabin boasts a king size bed and an electronically controlled skylight. There’s a barbecue and full sink on the flying bridge. A spiral staircase leads you below, to the champagne- and midnight bluecolored main salon. Tragically, Tom Gentry was caught beneath his capsized 40-foot Skater catamaran after she flipped at 115 mph during the Key West World Offshore Championship race in 1994. He remained in a coma for four years before finally succumbing to respiratory failure in January 1998. And Gentry Eagle? She sits quietly in Ventura Harbor, awaiting her next adventure. She is for sale—to the right owner. But this is a demanding thoroughbred and only the right combination of thrill-seeker, jet-setter, and mega-yacht enthusiast will qualify to take her helm. James Bond, perhaps? v

KANGAROO CARE A mother’s desire to keep her healthy newborn near her is instinctive. Infants who remain with their mothers after birth make an easier transition to life both physically and emotionally. Some of the benefits to the mother include distraction from discomfort, more confidence, less anxiety and strengthened attachment to her baby. Benefits to the baby include improved ability to maintain temperature, decreased incidence of low blood sugar, less crying and increased success with breastfeeding.
HIGH RISK PREGNANCY UNIT More than 20 years ago CMH embarked on a mission to become the foremost perinatal center in Ventura County which included adding a full-time perinatalogist. Perinatology is the field of obstetrics devoted to managing high-risk pregnancies. These increased risks can be related to the mother’s health, such as if she has high blood pressure, diabetes or another medical condition that would be affected by pregnancy or could affect the pregnancy.
COMFORTABLE, LOW STRESS ENVIRONMENT Giving birth in a warm, comfortable environment where pregnancy and childbirth are treated as a natural part of life is of paramount importance at CMH. Our labor and delivery rooms are designed with this in mind. The warm and caring, highly-trained staff at Community Memorial Hospital provides you with years of experience and expertise. This is your special time, and in order to make your stay pleasant, a comfortable, supportive, and caring environment will be provided.

Exploring the new new orleans In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, rough-around-the-edges neighborhoods in the Big Easy have emerged as arts destinations, thanks to a cadre of creative thinkers. KIRK SILSBEE considers the artist-driven reconfiguration.
N
ew Orleans has long been known as a cornucopia of music and a gourmand’s Disneyland. What outsiders seldom know is that it’s a city fairly swimming in art as well. The streams of music and art can run parallel, diverge, or crash into each other—usually in delightful and sometimes surprising ways. Hurricane Katrina wrenched New Orleans from many of its moorings in 2005: natives were traumatized and scattered, buildings destroyed, and longtime cultural institutions were shaken. From that devastation, though, came opportunity. “There’s been an artist-led response,” says Mark Romig, CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation. “As the city has rebuilt, artists have taken the lead and reconfigured the art market here. It used to be that art was found mainly in the Magazine Street corridor and a couple of other areas of the French Quarter. Now its on Freret Street—a place I wouldn’t have gone a couple of years ago.”
It was a crime-ridden avenue that people only drove through, and fast. Now the street has a number of scenester-friendly businesses, including the hip bar and restaurant Cure (4905 Freret St.). Housed in a converted fire station, it’s a late night destination for scrumptious small dishes and drinks like owner/mixologist Neal Bodenheimer’s wicked absinthe cocktails. Andrew Brott is an apostle of “The New Freret”; he works out of his home down the street. The glass artist fabricates the most fantastic light fixtures and glass art imaginable. He also runs workshops for school kids and is helping to make the street a commercial row. “This city is full of passionate misfits,” the energetic Chicago native declares. “If you don’t fit anywhere else, come here and help us remake this city.” The four-star Renaissance Art Hotel (700 Tchoupitoulas St.) has gone out of its way to display the work of local painters, sculptors, and artisans. The colorful carpet in the lobby and on the stairs—with the swirls and

contours—makes you feel like you’re in the middle of a giant Robert Delaunay painting. At the venerable Dooky Chase restaurant (2301 Orleans Ave.), diners in the banquet room get a double treat. Along with the best fried chicken, collard greens, sweet potatoes, and pecan pie they’ve ever had, art pieces by some of the greatest black artists of all time line the walls. Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Catlett, and Bill Pajaud are just a few who have donated work over the years. Vaughn’s (800 Lesseps St.) in the Treme is the place to be on Thursday nights. Trumpeter Kermit Ruffins holds down the city’s longest regular gig, playing rough-as-hell jazz for a room full of sweaty dancers. Turn around in that sardine can of a room and you may see pianist Henry Butler. He returns to New Orleans to play the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival each May or the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival in Lafayette Square Park in October. Butler retains the eclecticism and second line rhythm that so often defines the city’s music in his playing. A couple of Henry’s mystical-looking photographs are in the art-filled home on Esplanade Avenue that Jeanne Nathan shares with her husband, artist Bob Tannen. They co-founded the Contemporary Arts Center and have been major movers in revitalizing the city through art-related programs. They cherish their Butler photos as

much for his aesthetics as his congenital blindness. Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews is a sensation with his hip hop-informed funk. He now adorns national magazine covers, but not so long ago, Andrews brayed his unruly trombone from a balcony on Frenchman Street, calling the outdoor strollers to the club where he worked. Like Ruffins and Butler, he’s become one of New Orleans’s great musical ambassadors. Artist Sophie Lvoff came to New Orleans to teach with AmeriCorps; she decided to stay and pursue her photography. Her Good Children Gallery at 4037 St. Claude Avenue represents thirteen contemporary artists whose post-modern work often looks as though it could be from any major city. The tall, willowy Lvoff says, “It’s a struggle to get people to come downtown for art, rather than, say, Julia Street, which has more commercial access. But it’s exciting to be involved with such creative people, and it’s not hard to find inspiration here at all.” Grace Wilson is the director of communications for the 100-year-old New Orleans Museum of Art. She sums up her city this way: “There’s nothing sweeter than to see someone in a second line who is just letting themselves go and feeling everything that moment has to offer. And there’s no place to live for the moment like New Orleans.” v

The owners of Midtown Kitchens, Brenda and Rory Stoner, are both Certified Kitchen Designers by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. With over 20 years of experience they can offer a worry-free renovation that involves personally guiding you through every step of the design and remodeling process from concept to completion. One of their clients had this to say about her remodeling experience “... It is nearly 6 months since our kitchen remodel was completed and I am still thrilled with the result. Brenda’s design is flawless and we were able to stay within the budget we had set. Construction began on the day Rory said it would and the subcontractors were right on schedule throughout the project. Each of the subs were friendly and conscientious about the job, they also left the site cleaned up each day. We would not hesitate to recommend Midtown Kitchens...” Whether you are looking for traditional design or contemporary, or maybe something in between, Midtown Kitchens can help you create the kitchen you’ve always wanted. hear and now
From T.O. to Ojai, the great American art keeps on keeping time. LESLIE A. WESTBROOK riffs on the Ventura County jazz highway.
I
t all began like this: Somehow, having learned that I am a jazz fan (as well as a jazz pianist’s daughter), a crazily enthusiastic dude named Richard Tell called me on the telephone and began pontificating about his new series of monthly jazz concerts in Ojai. The lines were burning up with the impresario’s enthusiasm as he raved about some of the musicians he’s featured, as well as his future plans. The concert venue—Ojai Valley Community Church (“Don’t call it a church,” he begged)—was certainly unique. I was intrigued. Anyway, church or no church, I believe that jazz is holy and I embraced the idea with equal parts enthusiasm and curiosity. I will admit that I did find it a bit odd watching jazz bird Denise Donatelli scat in front of a cross, but her performance with her trio was terrific. And I was thrilled beyond belief to find a place (outside of L.A.’s Jazz Bakery or Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theater) where I could listen to jazz, without the clinking of wine glasses, in the company of a mutually respectful, appreciative crowd of fellow jazz fans. So I became a believer—in Ojai Jazz Concerts—and encourage all ye faithful to come to the holy world of jazz.
I
sent off an email to Matt, the editor here at Ventana, telling him about Rich. Soon, he riffed back, “You gotta check out Davey Miller, former pro surfer, artist, musician… He’s passionate about jazz and a classic Ventura character.” Character indeed, with a heart of gold when it comes to top jazz musicians (seasoned pros from L.A. such as bassist Tony Dumont, pianist Mitch Foreman, and saxophonist Doug Webb), whom he invites to Ventura—and pays out of his own pocket—to jam with him in small local venues, most currently at Andres Wine & Tapas Bar in the Ventura Harbor on the first Friday of every month. “I must have played thousands of gigs for free, but I pay the guys,” Davey told me. I landed on Davey’s Myspace page where I was delighted to lend my ears to a sweet and tasty straight-ahead rendition of Cole Porter’s “What is This Thing called Love?” played the way I heard music growing up as a 1950s “cool West Coast jazz” kid hiding beneath my father’s piano. It’s not always an older crowd digging this music these days. “I love jazz,” enthused Ben Norens, a 29-year-old Channel Islands resident I met one night January 2012 | ventana | 31

Above: Critically acclaimed jazz singer Denise Donatelli has performed at some of the country’s leading venues, as well as a little church in Ojai. Opposite top: Thirdgeneration jazz musician Granville “Danny” Young lives in Newbury Park and plays throughout Ventura County. Opposite bottom: Ira Nepus on trombone with the Tom Peterson Group. after he and a couple of fellow youthful buddies were lured into the wine bar by Davey Miller and his players’ music while departing the nearby Ventura Harbor Comedy Club. No surprise. It was top-notch jazz, performed by of a quartet of accomplished musicians: super fine vibraphonist Nick Mancini (who drove up from Toluca Lake); bassist Bruce Lett (from Malibu), trombonist Ira Nepus (from Thousand Oaks), and the indomitable Davey Miller on drums and a few vocals. If Davey is the patron saint of jazz in Ventura, then Ira Nepus may well be the keeper of the holy grail in East Ventura. Fresh off the “thrill of his career,” playing two solos for Sir Paul McCartney’s forthcoming album of jazz standards (and sitting next to Sir Paul in Capitol Records’ famous “Studio A” for three hours!), Nepus actively promotes jazz in East Ventura County. (More on that in a moment.) If there’s a hero in all this it’s Ventura County resident and jazz aficionado Rich Barth, a downtown L.A. commuter by day who moonlights as the e-publisher of a monthly list of local jazz events and venues—online at venturacountyjazz.com. This dude is dedicated. He spent two-and-a-half hours crawling through traffic to get to The SideCar Restaurant in Ventura, where we met during one of their steamin’ “Jazz and Grilled Cheese Tuesday” events. Over a great evening of music performed by Coda—made up of David Johnson on vibes, Kevin Fukagawa on piano, David Robaire on bass, and

I hit Cafe Fiore downtown later that same evening, to be delighted by a swingin’ rendition of “If I Only Had Brain” (yes, from The Wizard of Oz), by crooner and Ventura resident Bernie Meisinger (pronounced “mysinger”). An L.A. transplant (via a small town in Pennsylvania), Meisinger met Maria Fiore in the big city before there was Fiore’s in Ventura. A few years later she called. The rest, as they say, is history. “After playing the gig at Cafe Fiore for a few months, I found myself spending more and more time [in Ventura],” says Meisinger. “On days off, I’d ride my motorcycle up here to cool off from the heat of the San Fernando Valley and spend time with folks I found to be genuine and unaffected. One thing led to another, and in 2005 I bought a boat large enough to live on here in the harbor.” Down Thousand Oaks way, jazz trombonist Ira Nepus grew up in a jazz household under his father’s tutelage. In addition to his gigs, he puts on the summer series of jazz concerts at Gardens of the Worlds, on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Nepus plays in the world-renown ClaytonHamilton Big Band, as well as the Boyd Cannon Big Band, monthly at Borderline in T.O. He also went on a world tour this year with Elton John and Elvis Costello. Yet he finds time to organize fundraisers to help local high schools raise money to send their jazz bands to competitions, and sets up gigs for local jazz musicians to play around the county. “What Davey Miller is to the Ventura jazz scene, Ira is tenfold to the

Conejo Valley jazz scene,” Barth said. It’s no coincidence that there’s jazz at the Ojai Valley Inn. I first met jazz aficionado Janis Clapoff (the Inn’s former managing director) in the late 1980s in New York City, at a rooftop jazz party she organized at a Park Avenue hotel she was managing at the time. Several hotel gigs later, she brought jazz to Ojai—to the Inn’s Neff Lounge on weekend nights beginning at 8:00 p.m., a policy that I hope will endure. There are many more spots to hit on the Ventura County jazz highway; my bucket list is overflowing with places like the Famous Sports Bar and Grille in Thousand Oaks. Rich Barth spoke before the Thousand Oaks City Council (after writing a letter and soliciting similar impassioned writing from everyone he knew) a few years ago to get a live music permit for the establishment. “I found myself at a City Hall council meeting requesting live jazz,” he explained. “A few weeks later we were elated to get the permit and the owner, Tony Madoyan, invited the first improvisational music group.” Since then, “Jazz Thursdays” have been going strong. Thousand Oaks resident and Grammy Award winner Gordon Goodwin and his eighteen-member Big Phat Band played not long ago to a standing-room-only crowd of multi-generational jazz fans, including local high school musicians. (There’s also a student jazz jam there once a month.) And there’s Hamid Cooper and his Latin Jazz band, who play at various venues, including Zin American Bistro in Westlake and Bogie’s Bar and Lounge at the Westlake Village Inn. There’s resident world-class talent like Bob Bain, jazz guitarist and 22-year member of The Tonight Show Band, who lives in Oxnard; Jim Fox, jazz guitar player for the Frank Sinatra Jr. Band, who hangs in Ojai; and of course pianist/composer Roger

Local resident Roger Kellaway is world-renown for tickling the ivories.
Davey Miller brings some of the best cats to the Ventura/Santa Barbara area.
Kellaway (featured in the April 2011 issue of Ventana), who also hangs his hat in Ojai. Oh, and rumor has it that Tom Scott recently moved to Ventura. For those who like early jazz, or “jass,” Piper Winery, high atop Rincon Mountain, hosts a fun potluck/wine tasting/jass jam (Ventana, August 2010) the first Sunday of every month except January in a converted barn with a great view. On Sundays at the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club in Channel Islands Harbor there’s a different focus, with bands from L.A. performing. Simi Adult Community Center has New Orleans jazz, and The Sportsman Restaurant in Camarillo hosts Diz Mullin’s Swing Shift. Other regional big bands include the Ojai Big Band, Ventura Jazz Orchestra, Untouchables, Unforgettables, Swing Shift, Boyd Cannon Big Band, Gordon Goodwin’s bands, Danny Puchillo Four Brothers Big Band, Dean Adams Big Band, Joe Gray and his Late Nite Big Band, The Matt Finders Octet, The Tom Peterson Sextet. And not to be overlooked: the college bands at Ventura College, Moorpark College, and Cal Lutheran University. Phew! That’s a lot of great jazz for just one county. There is much to be celebrated. The musicians I heard were all incredibly talented and completely approachable. The crowds were super friendly, and the great music was often paired with tasty food and libations. But be forewarned: if someone cancels a gig and the musicians or venue don’t get their listing or changes in to Rich Barth’s web guide, you could end up on a dead end street on the jazz highway, as I almost did. Be sure to call the venues ahead of time. So what are you doing sitting here reading this? Get off your duff and hop on the Ventura County jazz highway. I think you’ll find it’s quite a trip, in more ways than one. v
For the most complete listing of local jazz venues, jazz musicians, and all things jazz-related in Ventura County, log on to venturacountyjazz.com. The next presentation in the Ojai Jazz Concert series will be The Ron Eschete Trio, January 21 at 8:00 p.m., Ojai Valley Community Church. For tickets and details, contact Richard Tell (richardtell@sbcglobal.net; 805.746.0936) or visit the Facebook page by searching “Ojai Jazz Concerts.” Special thanks to all the photographers, musicians, and music lovers who contributed to this jazzy conglomeration. Clearly, the article does not mention everyone who contributes to the Ventura County jazz scene. You know who you are. January 2012 | ventana | 35

Fox Fine Art Show
Through January 16 | Ventura Harbor Ventura County Potter’s Guild Gallery is featuring Francisco Magdaleno, the first featured artist since the pottery showcase opened in July of 2010. Magdaleno is a local artist who creates strong, beautiful sculptures mostly from terra cotta clay. These are coil built by hand, a method that joins the artist and his creation. Magdaleno’s use of oxides and his turquoise treatment of glazes give his sculptures a primitive look and feel. Free. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Artist Reception: January 14, 4-6 p.m. Ventura County Potter’s Guild Gallery, 1583 Spinnaker Dr., Suite 105, Ventura Harbor. For more information, call 805.644.6800.
January 19 – March 19 | Fox Fine Jewelry, Ventura Maggie Kildee, Steve Richardson, and Rich Brimer will display their art at Fox Fine Jewelry in downtown Ventura. An artists’ reception will be held on January 21 from 6-9 p.m. Maggie Kildee shapes clay into expressionistic women. Steve Richardson’s love of surfing and fishing is apparent in his work. The shoreline and the power of the sea influence the work of Rich Brimer as well. 210 E. Main St., Ventura. For more information, call 805.652.1800.
Into the Fragile Through January 26 | Cal Lutheran University, T.O. Brian Stethem photographs everyday things in a way that reveals quiet narratives and overlooked meanings. The photographs portray people’s sacred sides and imagine their lives interchanged with the lives of other creatures including insects and turtles. Free admission. Kwan Fong Gallery, located in the Soiland Humanities Center, CLU campus. For more information, call 805.444.7716 or visit callutheran.edu/ kwan_fong.

Each collector was allowed to select up to ten pieces. More than 2,000 images were received from almost 500 different artists. The 47 artists with the highest number of votes were invited to participate in the exhibition. There will be an opening reception on January 7 from 3-5 p.m. 1783 E. Main St., Ventura. For more information, visit artadvice.com or call 805.643.8300.
Celebration January 11 – February 28 | Red Brick Gallery, Ventura Vibrant colors, textures, and transformations are expressed in Red Brick Gallery’s new show, “Celebration.” The Gallery’s 5th Anniversary Party and Benefit for Food Share will take place on January 21 from 6-9 p.m. Twenty percent of all sales will be donated to Food Share during the party. In this show the artists, using a variety of mediums, express a unique moment in time. Eleganté Eleganté is the latest of our designs. The gleam of the high polish contrasting against the satin in-between. It’s funny how sometimes what seems like such a simple design takes so much more thinking to get it to be just right. I went through 14 iterations before I got all the lines to harmonize and flow. Eleganté is available in our signature 19K white or 18K yellow gold. The center gem can accommodate round gems 1 carat or larger, oval, square, cushion, and more, from 1.25 carat. We have it in stock with the 5.32 carat sapphire shown. I got an absolute steal on the sapphire so I’m able to offer this fabulous ring for the amazing price of only $4000. The mounting is available from $1200 depending on the size of the gem.
