EDITOR’S NOTE
DAMAGE CONTROL A CONVERSATION WITH ARTIST PAUL Benavidez (cover + page 35) is no simple thing. I base this primarily on a 40-minute telephone ride we took together, a loop de loop of riffs and wild interpolations— from stardust and the infinite nature of art and the universe to the meditative aspects of surfing. And to think: I was simply calling to gauge his interest in a potential article. So it came as no great surprise when the writer originally assigned to this piece bowed out, submitting to the reality that this could be no ordinary who, what, why, where, when, how story. Enter Tree Bernstein, whose poetic leanings made her a spot-on candidate to profile, as she put it, a “guy [who] has 10,000 ideas.” It’s rare, though in this case perfectly understandable, that a writer hoists the white flag of surrender. But if ever there were an issue for it, this was the one. In fact, this was the issue that almost didn’t happen. Features fizzled. Life-threatening illnesses intervened. The impossibility of encapsulating an abstruse character like Paul was just one hurdle on the way to the finish line. Yes, this floppy collection of pages is more complex than it appears. Think of it as a mosaic of brainstormed ideas, the compilation of weeks and months of planning. We distill myriad editorial possibilities into a handful of articles, cull through hundreds of photos to select just a few. It’s an elaborate creative process, but I’d hesitate to call the finished product art.

AUGUST 2014
So, what is art? Cue the Laughing Buddha; that’s more of a koan than an answerable question. I do believe there exists a Great Wall between art and craft, though. And I carried this speculation into the W Gallery during the recent ArtWalk Ventura. This was the site of the Ventura County Potters’ Guild exhibit, where my wife and I expected to find flowerpots and coffee cups—the first one of those we saw brimmed with a steamy dominatrix and a spoonful of submissive figurines. In the formative stages of this issue, I’d thought of our VCPG retrospective (page 25) as something of a folksy counterpoint to our contemporary arts interview (page 13). Shows you how much I know. Indeed, much of the work of local Guild members goes well beyond the realm of functional craft and into the hazy undefined of “art.” And there it is again: the loaded word. Perhaps art is simply an expression of emotions, regardless of the medium. One thing that’s always stuck with me is the concept of the creative process, not the end result, being the goal of a true artist. Maybe that’s why there’s a sledgehammer perched within arm’s reach of Paul Benavidez on page 36. Or maybe it’s just a sledgehammer. – Matt Katz mattk@ventanamonthly.com

NEW LIGHT ON HISTORY
She’s explored sunken ships and helped excavate a Roman palace from 200 AD. Now, Ventura archaeologist turned author Aria Cunningham sifts through the rubble of antiquity to write historical romance novels based on archeological data. BY AMBER LENNON | PHOTOS BY KAREN PARKHOUSE
W
hat happened to the days of old, when kingdoms bowed to beauty and wars were waged with purpose and passion? Men of chivalry and honor may be as hard to find as fabled ancient treasure, and the virtuous maiden may have been replaced by the brazen. But Ventura author, archeologist, and adventurer Aria Cunningham reveals that the heroes and myths of yesteryear continue to teach powerful lessons that are just as poignant some 3,000 years later. Her latest book, The Princess of Sparta, is the first historical fiction novel in her epic series “Heroes of the Trojan War.” This is not your oily Brad Pitt, winner-takes-all with a bloody spear Hollywood glamorization of the Bronze Age (although a series on the Trojan War is sure to pack some juicy testosterone battles). Instead, Cunningham’s exploration of this pivotal moment in history, when nearly every major civilization crumbled, is rooted in her own passion to excavate real stories about real people from archeological data and research. “[The series] is archeological-based and as close to the sociopolitical elements as possible,” she explains from a comfortable seat in the East Ventura home she shares with her husband, J.R. Burningham. “It has a lot of passion, a lot of heart. Ultimately, it’s a love story.” The tale of the Trojan War would, of course, be nothing without Helen and her tumultuous love affair with Paris. But before discounting this series as a sappy love song from a modern-day bard, don’t forget that Cunningham was first an archeologist. After her studies at Ventura College, she dove into anthropology and marine archaeology at UC Berkeley and spent her twenties castle hopping, exploring deep sea sunken ships, and tromping around ancient Roman palaces in Israel. “The cool thing about anthropology is that it’s this growing and expanding history that keeps evolving as we discover more,” she says. “So instead of regurgitating knowledge that somebody puts in a book, you can have an active stance, be the detective, be the sleuth, and do an excavation.” Do you detect an Indian Jones protégé? Cunningham says Indiana Jones films were some of her most inspiring influences and eventually led her to study film production at USC. However, after realizing the difficulty of getting her own stories

on the big screen, she decided to relocate to her old stomping grounds in Ventura and start writing. Cunningham says returning to the laidback atmosphere of Ventura was essential to leading a balanced life of work and play, and she often retreats to the harbor to clear her mind with long walks on the beach between writing sessions. It took a few months in the writer’s cave, breathing narrative life into the dusty historical record of Troy, but she emerged with a completed manuscript of Volume I and the confidence that a unique and historically accurate tale had begun. “I want to take a look at Helen, who in my experience has always been depicted as this bratty beauty, and give her a real story, give her a childhood, give her emotional responses to the things that have happened in her life that feel genuine,” she says. “By the time you are done, you’re going to cry when Troy falls. It’s one of those things where you don’t know the impact if you don’t know the characters.” An old adage says, “History is doomed to repeat itself,” and Cunningham is not the first to observe parallels between the tragic ending of the Bronze Age and the precipice upon which humanity teeters today. “The sociopolitical and economic conditions that brought about the fall of the world in this time period—there are so many correlations to what you see today,” she explains. “For a thousand years these different kingdoms had this established rule that was breaking at the seams. I’m going to provide voices and faces so you can understand why there would be this huge rebellion that could basically topple governments.” Peering into the complex psychology of leaders, villains, and victors, Cunningham hopes the “Heroes of the Trojan War” series will illuminate some of the pitfalls and, hopefully, lessons learned that could spare modern civilization from another round of near extinction. “It’s about the worth of all people,” she says. “It doesn’t matter where you come from, who you were born to, or your walk of life—there is something honorable and noble in all people.” v BOOKS, BIO, AND PRICELESS INFO FOR HISTORY GEEKS: ARIACUNNINGHAM.COM

INTO THE VOID
Contemporary art finds a home at two new galleries in western Ventura County.
INTERVIEW BY RYAN A. SMITH A FRESH FEELING IS TINGLING ACROSS VENTURA County’s visual arts community. Something new. Something now. A developing sense for livening classic disciplines with newfangled media tools (plus a twinge of social commentary) is rearing up beneath asphalt formerly owned by sunset pier photos and Pink Moment paintings. Enter Ojai’s Jolene Lloyd and Ventura’s Mary Haffner, respective owners of galerie102 and The Blue Cube, who recently breathed ultramodern life into the local fine art scene by opening their inspired galleries. Though unaffiliated with each other, these pleasantly passionate women share a common goal: to promote up-and-coming, forward thinking artists. With their budding galleries already forcing rubberneck glances from big-city eyes, Lloyd and Haffner have hoisted a new high water mark in contemporary art assemblages for the local area, and look to broaden the artistic horizon for all of Ventura County—and beyond.

Blue Cube owner Mary Haffner and the boundary-pushing artwork of Dawn Ertl.
Mary, what’s your main focus at The Blue Cube? Mary Haffner: We hope to engage a diverse audience with an art program dedicated to innovation, experimentation, and cutting-edge contemporary art. Our main focus is installation and conceptual works, but we are open to any new or unusual, boundary-pushing art. What convinced each of you these spaces were the right fit for your respective visions? Jolene Lloyd: The galerie102 space is light and bright, with 11-foot-high ceilings and ample wall space for displaying large pieces or assemblages of works. The square orientation also lends itself very well to floor installations, sculptures, and 3-D displays. MH: The 920-square-foot rectangle that is The Blue Cube is the perfect space for displaying art, and I knew it the minute I saw it. One of our walls is beautifully weathered brick and the rest is all white. The stained concrete floor complements installation work. And I like that it is located on the edge of downtown Ventura, in a primarily residential 14

area with a smattering of businesses. What directions in contemporary art are capturing your attention? MH: I appreciate street art, video installations, and performance art—in particular, long-duration performance art. I really like the idea of projecting video from a gallery window out into the street, enlarging the art space, engaging more people. The idea of always having to go into a discrete building dedicated to art can feel restricting. JL: I’m captivated by a new generation of artists who combine handwork with computer application to turn out a finished product that goes through layers of creation, something impossible without our current technology. Many of our artists start with photography, pen-and-ink, or watercolor, and then manipulate the image in the computer. It really is using the computer as an additional, artistic tool. Where do you think the most exciting things are happening? MH: The projection of art into the public sphere
is a new trend I find interesting. Social practice art is picking up speed and, if we can use art to turn the dial on important issues like homelessness and income inequality, that’s great. I also appreciate those artists that plant art in public spaces and no one knows who put it there. JL: It’s hard to choose just one medium. I would say, though, that video installation is reaching a new high in terms of accessibility and the range of possibilities now available. The phrase “thought-provoking” is often used as a blanket term in the art world. What does it mean to each of you? JL: Thought-provoking, to me, is art that asks questions of the viewer and demands the viewer participate on a journey of self-discovery in reaction to what is presented. It is art that doesn’t just exist because it is beautiful—although it often is beautiful. It is art that takes the viewer slightly out of his or her comfort zone, but, at the very least, gets the viewer to question and explore different possibilities of what is on view, not just accept what is on view.
d t
-
Jolene Lloyd (right) with sculptor Annie Pohl during a recent conversation series at galerie102.
MH: Thought-provoking: I can look at a painting of a landscape and it can take me back to the memory of a place I once visited. I want to introduce art that the viewer is either completely confused by, or is absolutely unaware that anything like it ever existed before in the world of art. Art has the ability to broaden perspectives, completely take one out of their regular, expected world and transport you, expand you. It offers up alternative modes of thinking, of questioning. We are all so different; our thoughts about a particular subject vary widely. What if we open up that dialogue through art? Don’t get me wrong: I love looking at landscapes. I am just drawn to art that opens up concepts and creates a new space in our minds that wasn’t there before. At our opening, a friend of mine came up to me and said, “I’m sorry, Mary, I just don’t get this. This is art?” I couldn’t have been happier. Have you noticed a common thread between the local artists you’ve worked with so far, a Ventura County style? MH: Many of them have acquired, either inten-
tionally or unintentionally, a social practice theme. Artists are making statements with their art. From the environment to hunger, homelessness, and income inequality, young artists are aware and informed, and they care. Some of the artists I have worked with, especially those who are featured in “Natural Resources,” are passionately concerned about human destruction of the environment. JL: I don’t see a common thread and really don’t want to; they are all so different and unique in their own right. If I had to create a common thread, I would say they are all very brave to be working in Ventura County, which seems to just be finding its way in presenting art. Your galleries share an emphasis on “outsider art,” works produced by self-taught artists who are not part of the artistic establishment. Why is that? And how do you feel about student artists? MH: Thus far, The Blue Cube has not worked with many self-taught artists, but they have certainly all been out of the establishment. Artists want a good place to show their work, but there is a lot
of angst with the typical artist/gallery relationship. As someone who is involved in education, I have gravitated to searching out artists who are studying at some of our regional educational institutions. We want to support emerging artists who are passionate about their work and taking risks with their art. But I am open to any artist whose work is fresh, stimulating, intriguing, and out of the ordinary. JL: At this moment, galerie102 doesn’t present student work, but it’s a possibility for the future. There aren’t a lot of galleries in Ventura County that focus on contemporary art to this degree; even in Santa Barbara you’d be hard pressed to find a pure contemporary art gallery. Believe me, I checked before I opened last November. And with the Sylvia White Gallery closing, there just are not a lot of options for contemporary art and those artists in Ventura County. But I believe this will change. Is either of you an artist? If so, how does that inform your work as a curator? MH: Yes, and being an artist I have great respect AUGUST 2014

for artists. Once they are given our space, the artist is in control. They are free to create an experience for the viewer that embodies their vision. I want artists to go for it without feeling constrained. JL: I am not an artist, but I’ve always immersed myself in art and culture (or my favorite: counter-culture). Curating is an art in itself, which requires an artistic sensibility, diplomatic reach with artists and collectors, and the determination and business sense to keep your vision alive. Describe a piece you’ve shown that complemented the energy of your gallery. MH: There was one installation piece entitled “Campfire Stories,” by Bridget Batch. Her work was a call to connect. I curtained off a separate space from the other works, where the viewer was invited to engage with another viewer by sitting in camping chairs, holding flashlights around Bridget’s campfire, and telling stories to each other. At the same time, the viewers faced a wall where the artist’s projected video told her own story through images of the surrounding campfire areas. She used footage from Oxnard and Ventura in this

video, embellishing it with special effects. This piece reflected the energy of our art space and called into question a viewer’s willingness to engage in the art. It was interesting to watch patrons walk up to the installation and immediately look uncomfortable at the prospect of sitting down with another person to engage. Some participated without hesitation, while others were visibly perplexed at the thought. I find this so fascinating. I want to give viewers an option, but I also want to push them into seeing things differently. JL: It’s hard for me to choose one, but I’d say that our opening show, “We Are One/We Are Many,” which featured the paintings of local Ojai artist Devin Oatway and the sculpture of Jon Rajkovich, was spot-on to the gallery’s mission to present art and artists who are “thinking and working outside of the box.” What impresses each of you as gallery directors? JL: Fearlessness impresses me. Artists who aren’t afraid to push the limits in what they create and will go to any length to have their artistic vision realized. MH: I appreciate the conceptual aspect of art;
therefore, we don’t show many representational works. My artists know far more about art than I do, and I like it that way. I know what I like and I think I have a pretty good eye for what could be considered interesting and thought-provoking. The rest is up to the artist. What is your ultimate goal for your gallery? JL: My ultimate goal is to continue to present contemporary art in Ventura County for many years to come. MH: The ultimate goal is to support artists who are willing to take risks with their work, give them a professional space to create a show that reflects their vision, and then introduce this vision to the community so we all can be enriched by this important mode of expression we call art. v ARTISTS AND EXHIBITIONS: bluecubegallery.com, galerie102.com THE BLUE CUBE 86 S. AS THE WHEEL SPINS Form and function merge for artisans of the Ventura County Potters’ Guild.

ne of the coolest things about the Ventura Harbor is the diversity of shops surrounding the boat docks. Ethnic eateries, fish vendors, kite shops, dive shops, toy stores, boutiques, and art galleries abound. Case in point: the Ventura County Potters’ Guild shop, located in the courtyard on the harbor’s west side. Home to artists and artisans who create beautiful works of art and practical everyday items, the shop is filled with the decorative colors of handcrafted clay, porcelain, and glass pieces. It’s a tactile learner’s dream come true. But this four-year-old shop houses a history that goes back much further than that. The group just
celebrated 55 years, showing off its wares at Libbey Park in Ojai and holding a dinner plate making competition. The guild is currently home to about 150 members, all of whom make their own pottery and many of whom display those wares at the shop in the harbor. “The guild goes back to 1957,” said Richard Franklin,

vice president for shows and exhibits; Franklin’s wife, Yvette, is the guild’s current president. “There were some students of the head of the ceramics department at Ventura College, Bill Winterbourne. They were pretty proficient, and they decided to get together and provide outlets for more learning, crafting, and working.” For a group of artists who decided to provide a place to show their wares and share ideas and techniques, the Ventura County Potters’ Guild is something of a watershed. “I would imagine that the people who founded the guild were primarily functional potters,” said Franklin. “They made things they used, bowls and mugs and things. But over time, we’ve seen a lot more art, a lot more decorative items.” It is, of course, all in the hands. Pottery as an art and a craft is entirely tactile and the potter has to feel as much as he or she has to see. Scenes from the ‘80s movie Ghost notwithstanding, there is indeed something sensual in the spinning wheel and the throwing of clay. But if so, it is more in the intimacy between the artist and his or her medium. Painters are tactile, yes, but the finished product is less so. One of the real joys of owning pottery or ceramics is holding or touching them. It is art that is useful, art you can use to perform basic functions like eating or drinking—and it all starts with the vision of raw materials as something more than earth and water. Franklin said the guild’s best-known members, Otto and Vivika Heino, were locals who became internationally famous, entering shows in Europe and all across the U.S. “Otto did all the throwing of the pottery, and Vivika was more interested in the glazes, so they worked as a team,” said Jackie Sanford, a guild member. “She was actually his teacher and they began to work together.” In talking with guild members now, one gets the idea that one could learn a lot about the history of the guild and the past members without talking much about the work itself. But it is the work that brings people together. “Most of us work at our homes,” said Cecile GurrolaFaulconer, vice president of programs for the guild. “I have one of Otto’s old wheels and I haven’t even used it yet. But most of us have electric kilns, and I also do raku firing.” Raku firing is a technique that originated in Japan. The high-temperature process was used to fire tea bowls in the morning and rapidly cool them for tea ceremonies the same day. “Now, rather than just pull them out of the fire, a potter will take the item out of the kiln and put it in a container with combustible material, then slap a lid on it,” GurrolaFaulconer explained. “The fire sucks all the oxygen out of the container and also pulls oxygen out of the item.” Indeed, the elements of life come together in pottery to form something that is much more than the sum of its parts. And perhaps that lends to its enduring appeal. “We get new people coming in all the time, and I think that new blood keeps it growing,” said Sanford. Franklin agreed. “It’s a fun thing to do, and a lot of people are looking for more creative outlets. It can be a business or a hobby, though very few people actually make a living at it.”
The group’s historian, Troy Schmitt, keeps a Flickr account with photos of various shows, and more guild members are getting involved in local art walks. Last month, the group set up a show at the W Gallery inside downtown Ventura’s Earle Stanley Gardner building. “Not only that,” said Franklin, “but the gallery here at the harbor has done very well. The harbor district likes us and we like them, it’s a great situation.” History has been kind to the guild, but not so kind to the
arts. Willpower keeps these potters together. Like so many art classes, ceramics has suffered the budget cutter’s axe. “It used to be that people could take the classes over and over at junior colleges,” said Franklin. “But in the last few years, they got rid of the program at Oxnard College completely, and at Ventura they went from five instructors down to two. There’s an emphasis on pushing people through; they don’t want people lingering, taking classes.” Sanford was indignant about the situation: “These are community colleges, and they should serve the community. There are plenty of people who would want to take ceramics and pottery classes, but the colleges won’t allow it now.” And though that injustice probably won’t be righted soon, members of the Ventura County Potters’ Guild are out to change the rules. v News, events, and general info: vcpottersguild.com Historical archives: flickr.com/photos/vcpg_history/sets VCPG Harbor Village Gallery 1567 Spinnaker Dr., Ste. 105, Ventura; 805.644.6800

Artist Paul Benavidez, out of the shadows and into the Black Stallion Studio, Fillmore.
ART AWAKENING
How does one create a Sustainable Art Community in an unsustainable society? It begins with a twinkling in the darkness of an “Enchanted Loom.” Welcome to the mind of mandala maker Paul Benavidez.
I
BY TREE BERNSTEIN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY T CHRISTIAN GAPEN
’M HEADED TO FILLMORE TO INTERVIEW INTREPID community artist-activist Paul Benavidez, when he emails me directions: “It’s where the old city dump used to be. Can you believe a town would use a river bottom as their city dump? It was closed in 1972 and capped with a hardscape. Later, the property became a horse boarding facility, which it is to this day.” Benavidez speaks like this, often incredulous (drawing on historical references) and with a sense of outrage, followed by unabashed hope for humankind. “Art is the human heart,” he affirms. “I love all aspects of it.” The river bottom suits Benavidez and his mission to energize the Fillmore community through free art classes and community service projects. At the Fillmore Equestrian Center a large open barn is his studio and gallery, while a singlewide green trailer emblazoned with a black stallion serves as his bunk. The idea for a Sustainable Art Community came from Benavidez’s observation that “we live in an unsustainable society.” Climate change
and continued drought, political and religious wars are ready examples of unsustainable patterns. As a well-known personality in the Ventura art scene, Benavidez has long been an instigator and participant in artistbased community projects, like the early years of Art City and later planning the WAV (Working Artists of Ventura) project. He has seen how art reinvigorates communities, such as downtown Ventura in the ‘80s, when he created window galleries in closed shops along Main Street. Now, he calls Fillmore home. A mandala created out of colorful plastic coat hangers covers the wall of his studio barn. When coupled, two coat hangers resemble a butterfly, which intersects other configurations, awakening new patterns as it weaves and wraps around the room. Benavidez credits neuroscientist Charles S. Sherrington with the concept of “the Enchanted Loom” in his 1942 book Man On His Nature, in which the author poetically describes his conception of what happens in the cerebral cortex during the transition from sleep to awakening. This “awakening” is a key component of the AUGUST 2014

notion of sustainable, artful living. Like the mandala, the Sustainable Art Community comes from an enchanted loom from which many new weavings and patterns are created. Collaborating with youth advocate Daniel Gonzalez at One Step A La Vez Center, Benavidez offers free art and philosophy classes for teens 13-17. In a recent Facebook post, he wrote: “We had a productive day today with the kids. We discussed meditation: learning how to meditate, the benefits of meditation according to science and actual practice. We discussed how to turn breakdowns into breakthroughs. Discussion on human perception of the universe—is the universe outside of us or inside?” They also draw and paint, often using each other as models. Another collaborator, Gerald Fitzgerald, who refers to himself as “old and priceless,” is a gardener and advisor for the backyard farming project, which came out of the Lions Club LEO: Leadership

Experience Opportunity. Teens create custom straw bale raised-beds for gardens in their community. Funded solely by donations, the kids “do it for the doing,” collaborating with clients to create elegant, water-wise beds designed to fit each particular backyard environment. In the past year they have created 15 beds for 10 customers on a sliding scale. Proceeds from the project fund college scholarships for the teens. Fitzgerald champions the idea of “working with what you’ve got.” He also gets profound satisfaction sharing stories with the kids and hearing about their lives—but doesn’t like the term “at-risk youth.” Benavidez comments, “We are all at risk here.” Fitzgerald notes that his garden reflects his Irish heritage, and encourages new gardeners to recognize their roots, so to speak, to create gardens that reflect their own culture. “We serve,” he says, quoting the Lions Club motto, then quips, “The Vegetable Valet at your service—nutrition is our mission!”
Another project in the works is the Bicycle Hub, to be headquartered at the Fillmore Equestrian Center. Its purpose is to bring awareness to alternative transportation. It will be a place for the community to tinker with bicycles, socialize, and plan bike trips. Envisioning these intersecting projects involving art and community, Benavidez weaves it all into the acronym FACE: Fillmore Arts & Community Education, the non-profit umbrella. “I love all types of art, from children’s to professional art,” Benavidez says reverently. “All are interesting to me.” He pauses, almost smiling. “Synergy is potential for humanity to perceive possibilities never before imagined.” One coat hanger is just one coat hanger. Two make a butterfly. Two times 200 create a flight pattern. Who knows where this synergy will take them next? v

STUDIO CHANNEL ISLANDS’ BLACKBOARD GALLERY EXHIBITS
August 2–30 | Old Town Camarillo The bright red buses of London and Greenland’s translucent icebergs are the contrasting starting points in this exhibit for painter Marion Wood and glass artist Pamela Price Klebaum. Marion Wood’s “Mind the Gap” paintings feature cropped perspectives of London buses, reflecting light and movement in exuberant color and bold brushstrokes. Pamela Price Klebaum’s exhibition “Greenland Diary” includes kiln-formed glass and textile work. Studio Channel Islands’ Blackboard Gallery. Also on exhibit August 2 – 29, “Melting Point: Contemporary Encaustic.” The ancient painting technique of encaustic wax intrigues modern abstract artist Robin Tripaldi, who fuses its unique luminosity and tactile surfaces with the geometry and structures of the contemporary world. A free artists’ reception will be held on August 2 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. 2222 Ventura Blvd., Old Town Camarillo. For more information, visit studiochannelislands.org.

CYCLES AND SPIRES
August 9 – September 14 | galerie102, Ojai “Cycles and Spires” will feature paintings by James Wills and sculpture by Elisa Berry Fonseca, exploring the cyclical nature of life and death through continual motion in different mediums. Tall, felt spires magically emerge from the ground. Sturdy but delicate, they undulate towards one another in a dance of striated color, creating a surreal, treelike landscape. A triptych of large black-and-white paintings form the Holy Trinity—sub-titled Father, Son, and Holy Ghost from traditional Christian doctrine—but here it represents the oneness of all life that cycles through spirals of black into white, and eventually into edges of color. Artists’ reception August 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. 102 W. Matilija St., Ojai. For more information, visit galerie102.com.

The truth is that I love Opals. They are unlike any other gem. This is the first of a series of pendants with Opals from Ethiopia. The center Opal is gorgeous and is set in a 24 karat Gold bezel. It's suspended from a row of Princess Cut Diamonds and topped with a fine color Sapphire from Madagascar, all set in 19K White Gold.
