Renewal plan Geuzenveld Zuid and Buurt 5

Geuzenveld-Zuid and Buurt 5 are two of the eleven designated renewal areas in the Western Garden Cities of Amsterdam. MUST took an integrated view of both these areas and drew up an action plan at the district level. The renewal areas have been divided into eight neighbourhoods, each with its own spatial and development characteristics and its own renewal objectives.

The municipality of Almere has asked MUST to make a study, to look at an optimal way to feasibly develop the island in the Noorderplassen without pushing out the qualities of this place. From three proposed scenario designs, one have been worked out, with a final report and a model as end results.

MUST stedenbouw

‘Vrijstaat Amsterdam’ was an exhibition organized by DRO Amsterdam for the 4th International Architecture Biënnale Rotterdam. Nine urban design, landscape architecture and architecture offices from the Netherlands were asked to show their vision of preselected parts of Amsterdam, with the means of building a model. Must designed and worked on the ladscape project - the metropolpark around the river Amstel. The design suggested a redevelopment of the 17th century landscape, with an argicultural usage of various types.

De Particuliere Stad MUST stedenbouw

On this research project, MUST has been collaborating with Border Architecture. It is a vast study on 11 areas in the Netherlands, which have been established on the basis of private ownership. The aim of this research was to analyse, interpret and document the relations between the existing and pre-determined regulations in urban design and the created physical result. MUST and Border Architecture were mainly interested in the built and public space around the privately built dwellings and their usage and living qualities. The methodology has been divided into 3 phases. First, materials (regulation documents, maps, photos, etc) have been collected. Then these materials were processed into maps drawn, which continued with a qualitative (usage of space evalusated by means of taken photographs in the areas) and quantitative (data, calculations, regulations) analisys and consequently a final report.
