SCHOOL-BASED TRAINEE PROGRAM Why do City Beach offer School-Based Traineeships? As a youth retailer, City Beach is invested in providing career opportunities to young Australians. Overview of the School-Based Trainee program requirements: As a nationally recognised program, school -based traineeship (SBT) arrangements are overseen by federal and state governments. As such, there are several requirements that must be adhered to and these vary slightly in each state. Below is a summary of these requirements for Queensland:
12-month traineeship. Students must be in year 10 or 11 - no restrictions on times of year that student can commence. Students must complete 375 hours (50 days) of paid work over a 12 -month period. Students are provided with a Training Record Book, which must always be kept in the store. Supervisors, SBTs and the RTO Trainer are required to sign off the Training Record Book at the completion of each unit of competency.
City Beach SBTs work one full school day each week for the duration of their traineeship, including School Holidays, the hours worked are typically 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. It is expected that City Beach SBTs complete on-thejob and theory training towards achieving a nationally recognised qualification. City Beach SBTs will receive support from their store leadership team in completing this training and b e given reasonable time throughout their shifts to do so. This qualification also contributes to the SBT’s senior secondary studies and overall Queensland Certificate of Education.
