Indy Car's Pippa Mann has no desire to race in NASCAR

Pippa Mann Pippa Mann does not want to follow in Danica Patrick's shoes. Mann, who will likely be the only female attempting to qualify for the Indy 500 later on this month, says she has no desire to ever race in NASCAR. Recently Mann told Forbes that stockcar racing just isn't for her. "I don't really have an interest in going to NASCAR," Mann said. "It's like an NFL player trying to go play championship rugby. The balls are similar, but the skill set is really not. "The other thing is I grew up in the U.K. watching open-wheel cars; was passionate about them. I didn't grow up watching NASCAR. I think the drivers are really talented at what they do -- it's just not for me." Although she isn't interested in NASCAR, Mann said she would like to try out sportscar racing. "Now sports cars -- the chance to go round for the Daytona 24, Sebring 12 or Le Mans? That I would love to do," Mann said.

It really is no secret that the latest generation ‘Vette has been an absolute home-run. Thanks to both how phenomenally the Corvette legacy has been built over the past six decades and to the unprecedented level of performance it offers, the C7 Corvette is without question a world-class sports car. 20

It’s hard to argue that with each succeeding generation – in regards to performance relative to its competitors, fit and finish, and technological evolutionevolution – the Corvette just gets better and better. However, reality always lurks in some form or another, waiting to rain on all of our blissful, Corvette-loving parades. In this case, it’s the numbers – the June 2016 Corvette sale numbers, to be exact. By Joshua Phillips

New Spy Photos of 2018 Corvette ZR1 Hint at Active Aerodynamics According to Car and Driver, the Corvette development team is in the process of choosing between hydraulic and pneumatic actuators for an adjustable rear wing intended for production. Brittany Force wins Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals for third career Top Fuel triumph DEL WORSHAM WINS IN FUNNY CAR; DREW SKILLMAN TAKES PRO STOCK CLASS PHOTO BY NHRA/NATIONAL DRAGSTER Brittany Force raced to victory in Top Fuel Sunday at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway. Del Worsham (Funny Car), Drew Skillman (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also victorious in their re spective categories at the 17th event of 24 on the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. This is the penultimate event of the regular season. Force powered her Monster Energy dragster to a 4.169-second pass at 180.21 mph to outrun reigning world champion Antron Brown’s 6.566 at 103.47 in his Matco Tools dragster. Brown rattled and lost traction early while Force’s drag ster backfired and released the parachutes just a little farther down track than Brown and she coasted to the finish line in front. Force claimed the third win of her career and her third in four final rounds in the 2016 season. She raced to her first career victory earlier this year at Gainesville, Florida, then became the first female to win in Nitro at the FourWide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina. Force outlasted Terry Had dock, three-time 2016 winner Doug Kalitta and two-time 2016 winner Shawn Langdon in the earlier rounds before defeating Brown in the final. “It’s awesome to be able to win here,” said Force, who is fourth in the Top Fuel points standings. “I felt good coming in this weekend because we had some success last year and I’m pretty sure we did well the year before. We are exactly where we want to be as we go into the Countdown and our big gest race of the season in Indy. It feels so good to bring home another win.” Source: autoweek

It would be easy to assume the Tesla Model S is the fastest electric car in the world. The P90D can, after all, hit 60 mph in less than 2.8 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 155 mph. But no, it doesn't hold the record as the fastest electric car in the world. That record belongs to an electric Corvette called the Genovation eXtreme Electric. As shown in this video and verified by the International Mile Racing Association, the GXE was able to hit 186.8 mph. Could the Tesla Model S P90D—or the potentially upcoming P100D—beat that record if its top speed weren't limited? We're honestly a little surprised that Tesla hasn't tried.

The Fastest

But the GXE is no slouch in the performance department. Its mo of torque, allowing it to also hit 60 mph in three seconds flat. Christmas Abbott NASCAR Female Crew Move over Danica Patrick. There’s a new lady on the race track! Christmas Abbott, a pit crew member for Michael Waltrip Racing, is certainly turning heads these days. Aside from her good looks and petite frame, Abbott can change a pair of 60-pound tires in 12 seconds. It’s also hard to miss the vibrant tattoos that pretty much cover her entire right arm. Abbott is NASCAR’s first female full -time pit crew member. The 5-foot -3 Virginia native has quite the résumé that helped her land the job - she previously changed tires on Jennifer Jo Cobb on the Camping World Truck Series. Christmas Abbott has an interesting name, and she’s also got an interesting life. As a front tire changer for Michael Waltrip Racing, Christmas became the first female pit crew member in NASCAR history three years ago. When she’s not in the pit box, she’s also an Olympic lifter, CrossFit competitor, fitness coach and now author. She’s the toughest woman you’ve never heard of. 55

How to Build a Business When You Can’t Quit Your Job Most of us get the urge to become an entrepreneur at one point or another. We may be called to create something from scratch, or lead a team of people or just earn money without having to answer to a boss. Whatever the motivation, the urge strikes us, but only a fraction of usever take that all-important next step of actually building a business. Why don’t more of us take that step? For starters, most of us already have jobs, and we can’t quit them smoothly or conveniently, so we just continue working them without pursuing our dreams. But what if you could build a business without quitting your job? It’s possible with the right approach. Why not quit? First, let’s take a look at why you’re not quitting your job in the first place. There are some valid reasons, but the reality is, you may not need your job as much as

you think you do. You need the money. Money is tight during the early stages of entrepreneurship no matter how good your idea is. However, if you can secure enough venture capital or a good line of credit, you can scrape by without needing a supplementary job. You're afraid of plateauing in your career. You may worry that if you quit, you may be unable to return to the workforce in the future. This is somewhat illogical in most cases. Talk to a boss or supervisor you trust, and get their opinion on a potential return if your business doesn’t pan out. You're unsure about your idea. If you don’t have a good idea yet, you probably shouldn't leave your job. While this is a valid reason, why not spend more time developing your idea? You're afraid of the risks. You may want to keep your job as a safety net, but safety nets don’t always lead to a better overall performance responsibilities. 64

Be realistic. First, be realistic about what you can and cannot do while still maintaining your job. You can work on your ideas, build some infrastructure and maybe even manage your business during the early stages, but you can’t feasibly manage this forever. There are only so many hours in the day, and you’ll need to make a commitment to one side or the other eventually. Focus on the idea. While you’re still working, focus on developing your business idea as much as possible. That is to say, keep your work conceptual during the early stages. This is the best time to flesh out the gritty details of your idea. Evaluate it for flaws, and fine-tune your idea to perfection. You won’t be under the gun with deadlines, and you won’t be strapped for cash, so make the most of this time by writing up the best possible business plan you can. Gain connections. Unless you’re working in isolation, this is a great time to build connections you can use for your business later on (assuming you won’t be violating any noncompete agreements). Get to know as many people as possible. You never know when or where you’ll meet a potential partner, vendor, client or employee. The wider your range of professional contacts is, the more options you’ll have when it comes time to growing your business. This will also save you valuable time when you need to be managing your business instead of networking. Start with baby steps. Don’t try to do everything with your business while you’re still working full-time, and don’t try to rush the process. Instead, take baby steps, when you can, to slowly advance your idea forward. Test the waters. Experiment. If you get in too deep, you’ll lose control over the situation, and your business will end up outpacing you.

65

Tread carefully. You may think of yourself as quite capable, and maybe you are, but there’s still a hard limit to how much work you can do before your work starts to decline in quality. If you spend too much time on your business, your professional work will suffer, and you may end up losing the career you tried so hard to protect. Spend too much time on your career, and your business won’t have a chance. Keep yourself in balance. If you follow these strategies, you can build a business while still maintaining your day job in the early stages. Just remember, there’s no perfect time to start a business, so be sure you understand your own motivations before opting to delay getting started. Oftentimes, the best thing to do is throw yourself into something, and make adjustments along the way; otherwise, you may never start at all.

Fast 8 adds restomod 1966 Chevy Corvette to roster

The iconic C2 Chevy Corvette will play a part in the upcoming Fast 8 movie. Dressed in eye-catching Rally Red, this 1966 model will be actress Michelle Rodriguez's ride in the movie that premiers April 17, 2017. Fittingly, the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, highlighted the Vette's new role last week and noted the rarity of the car. Just 3,366 versions of the 1966 run were finished in Rally Red out of 27,720 models produced. Spoiler Alert: Things don't appear to end well for the Vette, according to social media posts. This overhead shot shows the car crashed nose first into two other vehicles during a scene filmed in Atlanta. Fast 8 star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Instagrammed a shot of himself walking away from the wreckage. By Greg Migliore 67

Between the aggressive exhaust, the attention to stance and handling, and (most recently) the addition of ProCharger’s exclusive i-1 Supercharger, we’re pretty happy with how our C7 is turning out. Lest you not forget, the “700” part of Project C700’s title is there to serve as a reminder of our end goal: 700 all-American horsepower at the flywheel. As is consistent with the very soul of the Corvette since its debut 63 years ago, we want our C7 to be the ultimate enthusiast’s car – able to hold its own at the strip, around a roadcourse, and as a daily driver. 700 ponies will fill that order quite nicely – enough to make the hair stand on the back of your neck, but not so much that things get unruly. As we don’t have plans to pull the modified LT1 out of our ‘Vette and throw it on an engine dyno, we’re figuring just shy of 600 horsepower at the wheels will constitute completion of our 700-horse goal (when taking driveline-loss into consideration). As she sits now – with our last update being the ProCharger install – Project C700 is good for 571.2 horsepower and 599.4 pound-feet of torque at the wheels; do the math, and that’s 144.1 horsepower and 201.2 pound-feet more than we recorded when we first threw her on the dyno as a bone-stock car. Source: corvetteonline 75

Our 2015 Z51 Stingray has come a long way. Project C700, as we’ve named it, has

made substantial progress from where it began – not only in terms of horsepower but in handling and overall character as well.

This is the third year QCCC has collaborated with Calvary Baptist Church. One mission of QCCC is to bring the car hobby to areas that have lacked this experience. As Vice President of the club I happy to say mission accomplished!

Team to contend for class, overall win on GT-only weekend DETROIT (Aug. 23, 2016) – Corvette Racing has won 101 races in its impressive history of endurance sports car racing. No. 3 of 101 stands out for a particular reason: the team’s lone overall victory that came in the 2001 Rolex 24 At Daytona. This weekend, Corvette Racing can add overall win No. 2 and class victory No. 102 at the Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway. It’s is the only race this season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship where the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category is the main class. And like each previous race this season, two Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs are on the entry list – the No. 3 Corvette for Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen and the championship-leading No. 4 Corvette of Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner. Corvette Racing will look to add a second VIR victory to its résumé. Gavin and Milner won in 2012 – the team’s first race at the circuit – to clinch the American Le Mans Series’ Driver, Manufacturer and Team GT championships. A year later, Garcia and Magnussen finished third to score another Manufacturer title for Chevrolet and Team title for Corvette Racing. Resource: corvetteblogger

FORCE, ERICA ENDERS AND STEVE TOR RENCE LEAD FOUR-WHEELERS INTO SATURDAY QUALIFYING NEAR DENVER Courtney Force led a parade of track-record performances by racing to the Funny Car qualifying lead Friday at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. Steve Torrence (Top Fuel), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were qualifying leaders in their respective classes at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event near Denver. Teams in all categories took advantage of cool conditions as racing was delayed until late in the evening after a series of afternoon thunderstorms moved through the area. Force powered her Traxxas Chevy Camaro to a track record time of 3.917 seconds at 318.39 mph to lead a quick group of Funny Cars. In the first session, her father John Force posted a milestone run when he sped to the first three-second Funny Car run in track history, a 3.959-second run at the controls of his new-look camo uflage Realtree Peak Camaro. “We were hoping to run in the threes (in the second session) after we saw my dad lay down the 3.95 in the first round,” the younger Force said. “It was definitely worth the wait (due to the rain delays). Really excited and proud of my team for giving me a fast race car. It was awesome to have such a huge crowd here late at night to see a track record run like that.”

Mid-engine Corvette on Sale in early’s 2019 THE CORVETTE OF OUR DREAMS IS REPORTEDLY COMING

General Motors is moving forward with long-rumored plans for a midengine Chevrolet Corvette, marking the bigge engineering change in the venerable sports car since its debut in the 1950s, according to a report.

The Detroit News, citing multiple sources “familiar with the company’s planning,” reported on Thursday that GM p to begin selling a midengine Corvette in early 2019.

The Corvette, one of GM’s oldest nameplates, continues to attract mostly older buyers, the paper said, and the au tomaker is eager to switch to a midengine layout to attract younger consumers. Midengined cars typically have a weight advantage over front-engine cars in part because the drivetrain is more compact and placed more centrall the car, improving handling during high speed driving. Chevrolet declined to comment on the News report.

Bob Lutz, who retired as head of global product development for GM in 2010, told the News that company manag ment approved plans for a midengine Corvette in 2007 but said the program was scuttled under GM’s governmen bankruptcy in 2009.

The latest plans for a midengine Corvette are being championed by Mark Reuss, GM’s current head of product d opment, the News said, citing a former GM employee with knowledge of the project.

There have been several reports in Car & Driver and other media outlets over the past two years speculating abo 98 revived plans for a midengine Corvette.
