While living in Mississauga, Aisha Addo says a taxi driver once started asking her unsettling questions — like whether she lived alone — and sliding sexual innuendo into the conversation. “I ended up just calling my friend and staying on the phone with her until I got home,” she recalls. It’s experiences like that one that led Addo to develop DriveHer, a Toronto ridesharing service featuring only women drivers and passengers. With a tentative launch date at the end of the summer, the service already has 35 drivers signed up, though Addo’s goal is to have 50 drivers on the road for the launch. Mia Tedesco First Female To Win NHRA Super Gas National Championship

By Dragzine Mia Tedesco became the first woman to win the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Super G she claimed the title during the running of the Division 7 event Sunday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

it’s really hit me yet. I’ve been leading for a while, but I haven’t really let that mean anything. I haven’t told myself I won anything until it was truly official. It hasn’t sunk it yet, but it sure is awesome. “From the beginning, we let it over to God and realized how blessed we are and that we really don’t have any control. The goal at the beginning of the year was to get 650 points, and we accomplished that – and the championship followed with it. We were happy with our performance, whether we ended up winning or coming in second or wherever. Thankfully, we ended up winning.” Tedesco won two Super Gas races this season, a national event and a Division 3 race at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. She’s held the lead since the summer, and no one could catch her. But it was by no means a coast to the finish. Phillips was her closest threat, and he needed to win in Vegas to pass Tedesco.

“He’s one of the best Sportsman racers in this sport, so for him to have to win this race to catch you is a pretty scary feeling,” Tedesco said. While waiting in the lanes Sunday to make her Round 2 pass, Tedesco got word that Phillips Gas national championship when went red against Lloyd Parfait.

Cue the sad trombones…

While its been widely touted that the 2018 Corvette ZR1 is expected to be shown at the Detroit auto show, the guys over at GM Authority are saying they have it on “good authority” that there will be no This car was also in the news over the holidays after internal GM documents listed a 6.2-liter DOHC V8 engine slated exclusively for the Corvette in 2018. Tie that piece of news together with the trademark filing for the LT5 back in September and you can see why Corvette enthusiasts couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds for Corvette.

It is somewhat disappointing if it turns out that GM is skipping the opportunity to show off this new Corvette at NAIAS, but that opens the door to reveal the new Corvette a vette Museum’s annual Bash Event at the end of April. But if they decid veiling, I’m punching someone in the face!

Are women buying into the collector car hobby? Article found by June Bartlett Of the more than 200 cars at Pebble Beach in August, four were entered as being solely owned by a woman| Larry Edsall photo

‘More women than ever join the classic car market,” the headline on the news release reported. “Numbers grow by 40 percent in the last two years.” Forty percent growth in two years? How did we miss this surge? Well, it turns out we did not. The news release was from Footman James, a British collector car insurance broker, which reported that its data indicate that 11 percent of classic car owners are women, and tha this figure has increased by 40 percent in the past two years. While 40 percent growth is significant — climbing from 8 to 11 percent in just two years, it remains just the tip of the classic car iceberg. Is the same thing happening on this side of the pond, we wondered? We inquired of Hagerty, the American-based and world’s largest insurer of collector cars, and asked what its da ta might show. Hagerty says that 8 to 9 percent of its policyholders are women, and that percentage has been and remains steady; no 40 percent growth rate here. Hagerty noted, however, that the 8 to 9 percent figure applies only to vehicles owned solely by a woman and does not include the many vehicles for which a husband and wife are listed as co-owners. www.vettegirlscc.net

So why are British women buying classic cars? As part of its study, Footman James surveyed more than 1,000 British women and more than 900 men. Among women, 26 percent said they would consider purchasing a collector vehicle. Footman Jones also reported that while more British women are buying collector cars, the average age of those women is falling and now stands at 52. Oh, and those women are well-attuned to the current marketplace, the report added. Asked to select the vehicles that had increased the most in value in the past year, women did better than men in the Footman Jones survey. “Nowadays the classic car market is no longer an old boys club” Liam Lloyd of Footman James was quoted in the news release. “The popularity of mainstream media has introduced a whole new array of people to the world of classics, reflected in the rising interest from female buyers across the country. “However for any buyer, regardless of age or gender, it’s important to keep a few top tips in mind. Look to buy the best, seek expert advice, don’t be afraid to ask questions and monitor the market. Also, while it’s natural to focus on potential increases in value – it’s just as important to make sure it’s a car you actually like. After all there’s a reason it’s often called a passion purchase.” By: Larry Edsall www.vettegirlscc.net

One amazing vendor that we met sold a detailing product called “Wowthatsitdetailingspray”. This amazing detail product was created by Sabrina Lynn and Rosalind Stokes. Sabrina a former Chemist for twenty-five years and Roslind a retired nurse began selling this product in April of 2016. Sabrina wearing a classic white demin jacket explained that her product is actually made in her kitchen! These two single women both from Laurel, Maryland have been friends for only five years. Rosalind is also the Assistant Chaplain of “Top Flight Corvette Club” in the Washington DC area of which Sabrina is also a member. Both are proud corvette enthusiasts. Roslind owns a beautiful yellow 2008 coupe. She obviously spared no expense to make her yellow with yellow and black interior a work of art. Sabrina owns a white 1980 coupe with dark blue interior. Sabrina’s classic C3 is no joke either. She’s not only a skilled Chemist but also talented enough to install an Edelbrock Carburetor by herself! As well as installing the chrome under the hood and outside as well. Rosalind demonstrated the product on a beautifully painted black C3. The owner tried it himself and was extremely pleased. Always a supporter of women in business I too bought a bottle and was also very impressed by the luminous shine on my hood. Even better it can used on the windshield as well. I’m sure you will hear more about these ladies, they have already sold 2,000 bottles of Wowthatsitdetailingspray”. Selling in DC, Virginia, Maryland and Carlisle PA. Check out their website you’ll be pleasantly surprised (Wowthatsitdetailingspray@gmail.com). Peace, Love & Corvettes June Bartlett www.vettegirlscc.net

25 Ways To Make 2017 Your Best Year Yet 1. Everybody sets New Year's resolutions and abandons them, and that's why I'm not a fan of resolution-setting. When you set New Year's resolutions your critical self is yelling at the rest of you, saying "Why can't you get your act together?" This year, forget the resolutions and get a journal, instead. Give yourself the gift of self-reflection. It's free and only takes a little time every few days. 2. Write about these topics in your journal or write about your ideal job. 3. If you're working now, think about your current job. You have two Priorities at work: 1) to please your manager and hit your goals, and 2) to grow your flame and increase your marketability. You can accomplish both priorities just by doing your job with altitude -- with an awareness 4. Take every opportunity you get in 2017 to try something completely new -- at work, at home or in your social life

5. Try a new dish every week, listen to new music and shake up your routine. Travel to work a different way Try a different grocery store. Shake it up in 2017 and see how your creative brain rewards you! 6. Think about your network, even if you're not job-hunting. Make a list of ten people who lift you up and make you feel good. Invite each of those folks for a lunch, coffee or dinner in January. Follow up if they are slow getting back to you! Your support network is a vital source of mojo -- in both directions. 7. Set intention around rising above whatever petty office dramas greet you throughout the new year. 8. Give yourself a tiny treat every day. The time and attention you give yourself will pay off enormously. 9. Limit your time in 2017 with people who suck away your mojo 10. Your To-Do list gets sh or ter but it's never em pty. It cannot be em pty because if you caught up on everything you have to do, a hundred other things would appear behind them, things you've been wanting to do if you ever get caught up. Put down your To-Do list for a few moments each day and ask these questions: am I happy where I am right now? Do I need to shift

13. When you can't sleep because you ar e r eliving the day at w or k and worrying about things you could have done or said differently, say this to yourself: "I did the best I could today. I gave what I had and that is all anyone can do. Anyone who doesn't get me, doesn't deserve me!" 14. Think about your LinkedIn pr ofile, not because you are necessarily job-hunting but because LinkedIn shows a very public side of you to anyone who wanders by your profile page. 15. Go through your closet and get r id of th e cloth es th at don't feel like you anymore. 17. Grab the local newspaper in your town and r ead about something new you can try, visit or experience. 18. Read a book that is not a business book. 19. Make a playlist of your favor ite songs and play th em during your commute, when you're chilling at home or whenever you want. It's your life you get to design the soundtrack! 20. Make a list of the twenty m ost daunting item s on your To-Do list at home and at work. Now ask yourself about each item, " Why am I doing this?" Simplify your life in 2017 by telling the truth! 21. If you eat your lunch at your desk at w or k, ch oose one day per week to get up and walk around outside instead. 22. Choose something you could lear n to do at w or k and star t lear ning it -- either on your own or with your manager's support. It's amazing what you can teach yourself. 23. Recruit a Reinvention B uddy and get togeth er w ith th em at least once a month, every month. Spend your time together talking through your selfreflection and flame-growing activities. You will coach one another! 24. Seek out opportunities to gr ow your flam e by doing som eth ing cr eative, solving tough problems at work or anywhere and doing things you love to do. When the sun is out, get outside! 25. Go easy on yourself. You carry a heavy load. Y ou do a gr eat job at it. It's your life and no one else's. Not everyone will get you and that's fine. Your job is to find the people who do! www.vettegirlscc.net

Corvettes at Carlisle 2016 Article/Photos By June Bartlett Each year I wait with childlike anticipation for the end of August. The end of August represents the end of summer and the car show season. Corvettes at Carlisle is one of the largest corvette shows in the world. Although Corvettes at Carlisle is at the end of the car season I look forward to this magnificent culmination of all car shows. So much so, I call it the “Mecca” of all corvette shows. Corvette owners from every generation, every race, male/female, wealthy, to not so wealthy have made this pilgrimage to Carlisle for decades. This year the event began on Thursday Aug. 25 thru August 28, 2016. The four-day event attracted even more die hard enthusiast on Thursday. When we arrived on Thursday we combed the vendor isles searching for what we wanted and needed. As a semi veteran of Carlisle I’ve learned that walking the 82 acre property takes time and planning. Some enthusiast come with a list of items needed, then seek out vendors listed within the event guide. Others just walk randomly and discover corvette treasures along their self-guided routes. Vettes of all years invaded the spacious fairgrounds representing every state as far away as Canada. Corvette at Carlisle offered seminars on weather stripping, car care, C5 & C6 computer diagnostic and more. Plus autograph sessions with guests like Jerry Palmer, Wil Cooksey, Tadge Juechter, and Team Chevrolet. In addition to endless rows of parts for sale (old and new), this event offers rows and rows of everything from books, car care products, car covers to corvette apparel. You can also buy, sell, finance and insure a car without leaving the fairgrounds. Continue pg 45 www.vettegirlscc.net

The 35th annual event hosted more than 5,000 Corvettes during the four-day-event and 50,000 guests. I especially love the “nothing but vette” atmosphere. The atmosphere at Carlisle is one of family. One can sit down to eat at the food court, strike up a conversation with a stranger and share all the details about the love of your life (your vette). When you finished you’ll hear the familiar “see you next year”! This corvette fever ignites excitement throughout the town of Carlisle. So much so locals line up along Hanover Street early on Saturday night to view the well-known parade. Being in the parade is almost like celebrity status. All along the route to downtown you hear cheers, requests for burnouts, smiles and thumb ups. This year the parade of 500 cars took thirty minutes for all of the cars to pass. Once we arrived down town, cars were parked four deep and covered many blocks and side streets. When the last car arrived downtown which was actually our car) everyone walked around admiring this sea of corvettes. The town provides live music to add to the classic car nostalgia. Young and old enjoy the cars under the night lights until it’s time to go. We met up with our friends at the same restaurant for the past few years. Our waitress actually remembers us and treats us like family. We ate, talked and drank enjoyed one another’s company. Hours later we bid each other good bye with the familiar “see you next year” Article/Photos by June Bartlett www.vettegirlscc.net

It will feature a ProCharger supercharger and FuelTech FT600 EFI. Honoring its predecessor, the new project build will be named ‘BlownZ06’ continuing the heritage of the Dragzine build series. Fascinating Data: Where The Corvettes Are Taking a snippet from Maurice Sendak’s vivid imagination, follow along as we sort out some very interesting data from GM Parts Center. We’ll call our journey “Where The Corvettes Are,” with no costumes or boat rides to far away lands necessary.

For Corvette fans–and detractors–many assumptions can be made.

We can hear it now, “Corvettes are big in Texas and Florida, who knew?” Yeah, but we wouldn’t have thought California would be in third place behind those two states. We were just talking Corvette demographics with the Al Knoch Interiors folks the other day so this was an especially timely item that pinged ’round the internet. www.vettegirlscc.net

50

So we now know the highest density US geography for Corvette, but where are the states with the most Corvettes on the road? Your author is a native Seattleite, so of course I was thrilled that Washington was up there, but other Northern states have a lot of ‘Vettes as daily drivers as well. Seems like people everywhere like to drive their fiberglass rockets, not just folks from sunny climates. Here’s the kicker. Did you know the second biggest market for Corvettes isn’t Canada, but Brazil? In fact, there are more Corvettes in Mexico and Germany than Canada. We all know that most of Canada is frozen but those numbers were eyeopening and it’s probably not a bad idea for Corvette vendors to incorporate Spanish, Portuguese and German language options in their websites. Don’t forget Arabic and Hebrew too. One thing’s for certain, the coolness of Corvette needs no translation. Go here for more details and numbers.

As part of the VMP Performance team, Rebecca is one of the leading proponents of the company’s supercharger systems. Freestate Corvette Club Ocean City, Maryland – October 14 & 15, 2016 Well, two years ago I didn’t think we’d be back in Ocean City, Maryland again. When we attended the Free State Corvette Club car show in October 2014 we weren’t too impressed. Some compared it to Corvettes at Carlisle describing it as even better. I disagreed. After receiving many emails and experiencing a multitude of stress from life in general we decided to get away and check out the show! On October 14 & 15, 2016 the car show Gods were merciful and provided us with beautiful Corvette weather. Upon arrival at the Clarion Fontainebleau Hotel the Free State Corvette club had everything under control. From parking the cars to the very well-orchestrated registration check in. After parking our car we immediately saw friends and club members from home lounging in the parking lot. The hotel parking lot was like a show within itself. Lot’s of C7’s in all the glorious corvette colors you can imagine. Fellow enthusiasts walked around admiring one another’s cars rehashing all it took to make them magnificent. After briefly checking out the cars we headed to the registration check in. Upon completing the registration we strolled towards the vending area eyeing tables filled with various club paraphernalia. Inside there were only about twelve vendors, however they were well equipped with a variety of goods from jewelry, corvette apparel, posters, detailing products and customized photos of your corvette. After cruising through the vendors, and actually getting some great bargains, we headed to our hotel. Feeling refreshed and excited to be in town with so many vettes rooming the streets, we hooked up with the B-Triple-C (Baltimore County Corvette Club) from Baltimore, MD at “Dead Freddie’s Island Grill” restaurant. While enjoying our appetizer a woman walked in and greets us with a “B” dazzled corvette tee shirt on and says her husband bought her a new 2016 corvette. As accustomed the vette family greeted her with congratulations and best of luck. The new owner vowed to see us at the parade. One of the best things about being a corvette owner is we’re all equal family members. You can strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere who owns a vette just because you’ve got that one thing in common, THAT VETTE ! The culmination of this two day event is always the Parade on the boardwalk. The Triple C Club left the hotel in true corvette formation twelve deep. When we arrived at the boardwalk there was a rainbow of every corvette color imaginable. They were mostly new vettes C5’s, 6 & 7’s. The parade was the most successful yet. Six hundred sixth-five corvettes invaded the boardwalk. The parking lot was full of corvettes of every generation. The atmosphere was friendly as enthusiast and spectators mixed and mingled. As we paced our way down the boardwalk spectators cheered us on with thumbs ups, smiles and request for burnouts. It took approximately 20 minutes to go down the boardwalk. We enjoyed every minute as we came to the end and saw the “Thank You for Coming” sign, see you next year. Yes, they probably will.
