ON AQUARIUM OF THE AMERICAS | VCC REVIEW
Project Summary Audubon Nature Institute had a vision for a new, quality entry experience serving both the existing Aquarium of the Americas and a relocated Insectarium. A new lobby and reversed aquarium flow will provide an updated first impression and centralized entry for both attractions. A small addition will house this extended lobby and an iconic butterfly exhibit. An existing giant screen theater will be decanted and re-invented to incorporate the Insectarium, a new event space, and a centralized office suite. GULF TANK TO 1STFL

In the heart of Treme exists two disparaged communities; although exchanges between both groups are rare, they share the common thread of residing near the Interstate 10 and experiencing it on a daily basis. The homeless population that congregates in Treme primarily seeks PROGRAM BREAKDOWN refuge underneath this infrastructural work, while the residents ofOFTreme rarely utilizes the highway outside of its typical usage. The moments COMMUNAL MOMENTS INTERACTION the community of Treme appears most unified are during celebratory communal musical exchanges, which often include jazz music. Outdoor theater

The program for this site is a cyclically supportive combination of a jazz music library and transitional housing for current and formally homeless individuals. These two programs function under the umbrella of a non-profit organization that provides facilitated work opportunities for transitional housing residents, through the program of the New Orleans Music Library. The library is a public entity that unites the residents of the site with the rest of Treme’s population, with the goal of lessening the negative stigma associated with homelessness. library Entrance
