Hello and welcome to
We’re so glad you’re here with us in beautiful Clearwater Beach, Florida!
This is a special group. Whenever people ask me about Essentially Women, my response is always the same: I get a big smile on my face, then proceed to explain how phenomenal this community is. We are so fortunate to have such compassionate, giving people who never hesitate to assist those in their community and others. Focus Conference is unique on so many levels. My greatest joy is when people share how excited they are to meet other EW members, exchange ideas, and take away some helpful nuggets to apply in their businesses.
This community and conference are here for you. Over the next couple of days, I encourage you to meet as many people as you can: fellow members, exhibitors, and speakers. Share with each other your greatest successes and those moments where you learned and grew from because it didn’t work out the way you’d hoped. The women’s health space is a tremendous opportunity, and there’s so much room for growth. Learning from each other and connecting is what the EW community is all about.
At this year’s Focus Conference, we have some great speakers who will provide you with education, new business ideas, updates for your business, and key points you should know about your payer contracts. There will also be networking opportunities to interact with fellow EW members. You may not all have the same business model, but the core of what you all do is the same: helping the patients in your community thrive in a dignified, confident, and respected manner. Your storefronts may all look different, but you’re all in the same business.
Be sure to join us for the new Exhibit Hall Grand Opening Sunday afternoon before the EW Sunset Soiree. We’ll enjoy cocktails and appetizers while mingling with our vendor partners. We greatly appreciate our vendor partners who exhibit at Focus. They are all committed to helping you build a successful business and offer the best products and services for your patients.
After the past few years, we’ve all become more grateful for these opportunities to gather together. We don’t take it for granted, and we’re so happy you chose to spend the next couple of days with us.

You will walk away with compassionbased communication tips and an emotional first-aid kit that you can use to improve your own well-being.
Learning Objectives:
• Analyze how initial interactions can profoundly affect client/patient experience.
• Review cognitive research on the ways that stress affects mental processing.
• Discuss different interventions and how they improve client/patient care and engagement.

1 – 4 p.m.
Location: Gulf Room
RONDA BUHRMESTER Sr. Director Payer Relations & Reimbursement,VGM Government Relations
Providing medically necessary products to your clients is the reason you chose to be in this industry. The challenge is to understand the requirements coming from referrals to payers that will enable accurate and timely filing for these products in addition to servicing your clients timely. The mission, should you accept, is to also protect your business by ensuring timely payment for the products and services offered.
The mission is possible as long as you have an understanding of the home medical equipment industry process from intake to billing and the proper tools and resources to successfully complete the mission. You won’t have to climb the tallest building in the world or jump from building to building to complete the mission.
In this mission, you will be introduced to the variety of contractors hired by the Medicare program (and other payers) and identifying the payment categories. The session will go through steps for the complete intake process where the gathering of patient information is vital to proper claim submission. Highlights will also include recognizing a valid order and the documentation necessary prior to submitting a claim for payment. The last step of the mission is preparing for claim submission resulting in the payment.
It is time to accept this mission by registering for Mission Possible: Women’s Health Reimbursement.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify the different contractors for CMS Medicare and different payers.
• Review the key steps during the intake process.
• Evaluate documentation and order requirements as it relates to medical policies.
• Discuss the claims filing submission process from modifiers, timely filing, and working with a denial or rejection.

Awareness of lymphedema has grown exponentially, and with that, so has the number of those diagnosed yearly. But do patients with lymphedema know where to go to find compression? Do therapists know where to send patients when they are ready for compression? Most therapists and providers struggle when it comes to assisting their patients with compression and would welcome the opportunity to partner with local compression fitters. In this session, we will explore how lymphedema awareness has led to a growing number of patients needing compression more than ever. Don’t leave compression business on the table, but instead learn how to best care for patients and harness that business lifelong.

• Be in the know of where patients are going to get their product and how to capture that business.

In order to obtain and retain your Medicare billing privileges, every Medicare DMEPOS supplier must meet the Supplier Standards. In addition to maintaining Medicare billing privileges, suppliers must also maintain compliance with licensure for payer contracts. In this session, Kelly will discuss the importance of meeting supplier standards, maintaining appropriate accreditation guidelines, and understanding the state licensure requirements. Time will also be spent addressing common risk areas suppliers may face when billing insurance.
Learning Objectives:
• Develop an understanding of the DMEPOS Supplier Standards.

Maximizing Resources to Ensure Fair Payer Contracts
2:15 – 3:15 p.m.
CRAIG DOUGLASVice President, Payer and Member Relations, VGM Government Relations
Have you found yourself feeling somewhat powerless when negotiating the terms of your payer contracts? If so, are you tired of being in the dark when it comes to those negotiations? Reaching an agreement, especially one with fair reimbursement rates, has traditionally been a tedious process that can take an immense amount of time without much data available to assist you. Providers are often at the mercy of payers when it comes to determining fair terms during those “negotiations” as they often don’t have the same transparency into claims and other types of data that payers have at their disposal. Payers often utilize a take-it-or-leave-it approach, saying, “This is what we pay everyone else.” In this session, we will dive into some new tools that providers can utilize as they negotiate new or existing contracts with payers to achieve more long-term stability in their contracts.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify new tools that can aid in contract negotiations.
• Discuss comprehensive payer negotiating strategy tips.
• Describe methods to identify key referral sources in your market(s).

Encelia Hair
Hair Loss Products Thoughtfully Designed By A Baldie
Encelia Hair offers hair loss products thoughtfully designed by a baldie. Allison Ombres’ life changed unexpectedly when she developed alopecia universalis during her second pregnancy. Wearing a wig all day, every day is work; she was hot, itchy, and super worried that her wig would fly off! Frustrated, she set out to design an easy-to-wear wig and hat solution for the modern “baldie.” The Original Workout Wig is comfy, secure, and realistic. Women everywhere love it because it’s easy and it takes all the uncomfortable parts of the wig away! The Dream Cap is a modern chemo cap with a built-in sleep mask that is cozy, chic & stays put! The sleep mask is lightweight & light-blocking, so you can sleep well anywhere—chemo treatments, hospital stays, and at-home recovery. To make it extra special, she includes a fabric pen with the hat so loved ones can write love notes inside. It is such a thoughtful gift that women are loving!
