Begin a Journey

Amanda Aster-McKenna, Psy.D, a licensed clinical psychologist, views the therapeutic process as a journey, one that leads to healing and selfdiscovery. “I work with patients to explore their feelings, thoughts and physical sensations, and how they influence their behavior,” she says.
Among the behavioral issues Dr. Aster-McKenna treats are trauma, grief, addiction, anxiety and major life changes. At the root of her treatment approach is acceptance and commitment therapy—meaning patients are guided to take action and be an active participant in their lives. “Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional,” she notes. The treatment modality is evidence-based and effective. The goal is to shift behavior in ways that are useful and workable, and to move away from what is not as workable and, perhaps, harmful.
She is a psychologist that treats adults and older adolescents. “I am committed to helping clients maximize their emotional and psychological strength. I believe therapy can help foster individuals to be more than just ‘okay’.”
