Annual Report 2016-2017 Dear Rosary Families, Antoine De Saint-Exupery once said, “As for the future, your task is not to foresee it, but to enable it.” I feel very fortunate to work for a School that has been about the business of “enabling the future” for generations of students. Our mission statement says we are committed to educating and developing Christian leaders in the Dominican tradition and since 1965 we’ve been doing just that — enabling the future of our students. This past year was no exception. Once again 100% of this year’s graduating class was college bound, and 96% of the seniors received one or more college scholarships totaling over $15.5 million. Two Rosary students qualified as National Merit Commended Students, 24 earned the designation of Illinois State Scholar, 35 were inducted into the National Honor Society, and 89% of those who took an AP test earned a score of 3, 4, or perfect 5 (33 students). Rosary students performed over 10,000 hours of service to our community this past year assisting local food pantries, special education recreation programs, churches and youth groups, Catholic grade schools, local senior citizens, and even performing painting and light construction on a summer mission trip in Wisconsin. Clearly Rosary continues to prepare Dominican Christian leaders who make us proud. And we couldn’t do it without you — our generous and faithful benefactors. Bill Gates is quoted as saying, “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.” Thank you for your leadership and tremendous support in empowering our Rosary faculty, staff, and most importantly, our students. We would like to formally thank each and every donor who gave their time, talent, and treasure to Rosary High School this past school year. Unrestricted gifts totaled $337,004, which includes the annual appeal, the Royal Raffle, Walkathon, Candlelight Ball, Candle Rose program ads, tuition gap donations, as well as memorial, corporate match, and stock donations. Overall, our total unrestricted donations were up slightly from a year ago. In particular, we were pleased to note that, for the fifth year in a row, the total number of donors increased — this year to a record high of over 800 individual donors. Rosary was also blessed by wonderful donations to various Restricted funds. Restricted gifts totaled $256,389, which includes the tuition assistance fund, named scholarships, and specific program funds. Your generosity does not go unnoticed by our many Rosary alumnae. We have countless examples of former students who return to Rosary High School and make gifts, both large and small, as their way of helping the next generation of students pursue their dreams of an education — just as they were helped along the way by the many benefactors like you who made their education possible. Each donation and donor ensures Rosary will maintain its excellence. We hope that you will once again choose to make Rosary a part of your charitable giving in the 2017-2018 school year. God Bless,
President

Rosary High School is currently looking for new scholarship benefactors. Scholarships are one meaningful way to give back and can be started to memorialize a loved one, provide financial assistance from a particular school, or honor students who excel in academics or activities.
Scholarships can be funded through donations or stock over any designated time period. The terms of the scholarship are determined by the benefactor. For more information, call Adrienne Gilla, Director of Institutional Advancement, at (630) 896-0831 x217.

Our website has an easy-to-use tool that provides the names of more than 16,000 companies that offer matching gift programs. Find the tool at www.rosaryhs.com/ donate to see if your company offers a matching gift policy and follow the links to obtain the application. Thank you for taking this extra step to help support Rosary High School. The companies listed below have matched their employee’s donation to Rosary:
Fifth Third Bank Thomas and Julianne Rowen
Gelber Foundation Michael and Mary Ann Wangler
IBM Corporation David and Erica (Mueller ’86) Cox
New York Life Thomas and Rose Jassoy
Pepsico Foundation Rom and Jennifer Kosla
Wells Fargo Foundation Tamara (Queenan ’85) Hambrook Timothy and Tracey Michel
Grants Because of our wonderful donors, Rosary has completed all three phases of Operation: Communication, our communication systems upgrade. Last year, Rosary was able to install a new fiber optic line to the school to boost its wi-fi, upgrade to new phone systems, and purchase a new software system for teachers, parents, students, prospective students, and donors.
Rosary’s Operation: Communication in 2016-17 and their donations have been matched by the Dunham Fund.
