Annual Report 2017-2018 Dear Rosary Family, As my two year commitment as the President of Rosary High School winds down, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this great school. As many of you know, I retired from a long career in higher education before moving from my position as Chair of the Rosary Board of Directors to the transition position of president. Having married a Rosary graduate and raised two more, I have seen firsthand the benefits of a Rosary faith-filled and academically rigorous education. Having lived in the building for two years, I am even more impressed with the passion of our teachers and staff, and the quality of our students. Rosary’s future is bright with another very strong entering class of young girls ready to be brought up in the tradition of developing strong, faith-filled, academically prepared Rosary women. I have no doubt that they will continue the outstanding record of achievement established by our thousands of Rosary graduates – one of academic success, significant service to our community, outstanding accomplishments in the fine arts and athletics, and the development of a strong Dominican faith and religious ethic. At this truly exciting time for Rosary High School we are particularly grateful for the strong partnership we enjoy with our generous benefactors. Together we continue to accomplish our mission of educating and developing Christian leaders in the Dominican tradition. Highlights of 2017-18 Rosary Hires First Head of School
Math Team at State ICTM Contest
Rosary High School and the Dominican Sisters of Springfield took an exhaustive one year search to transition to its first lay head of administration. On July 1, 2018, Mr. Anthony Wilkinson will begin as Head of School and bring with him 25 years of experience in education. He holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Northern Illinois University, as well as, a bachelor’s degree in Education and Social Studies at Indiana University. He will follow in the footsteps of Dr. Thomas Choice and Sr. Megan Farrelly who passionately served the school during the transition.
Rosary Math Team members competed in Division 1A at the ICTM state competition May 5 at the University of Illinois. The Algebra 2 Team of Sarah Borish, Athena Ye, Ally Tippett, Julie Bottarini, Louisa Surtz, and Sarah Jochum earned 12th place of 33 teams.
Achievements of the Rosary Class of 2018 • 73 graduates • 21 Illinois State Scholars • 1 National Merit Commended Student • 22 National Honor Society members • 6 Catherine of Siena Scholars • Graduates earned $13.2 million in college scholarships (90% of the 73 graduates earned this total) •12,375 Hours of Community Service • 100% college-bound
Foley Named National Merit Commended Student Sarah Foley was named a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Only the top two percent of all test-takers achieve this distinction.
Three in a Row: Beads are 2017 State Champions The Beads chalked up a three-peat, winning the State Champion-ship title at the swim meet in Evanston November 17-18, 2017, and also brought home a State Championship in the 200 Medley Relay (Athena Ye, Izzy Pytel, Camryn Streid, Emily Ryan). The Beads went undefeated on the season, winning the Conference Championship and Sectional title. Fourteen swimmers qualified for State. Rosary had a four-year run as State Champions from 2006 through 2009, finished second at state in 2014, and again earned State Championships in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Students Earn Medals in Language Contests Fifty Rosary students earned recognition on the National Spanish Exam in 2018. Bridgette Valenti, Liana Hirner, and Paige Klimavicius earned Gold Medals, scoring above the 95th percentile in the nation. Tomasin Fijabi, Lauren Seger, Kaley Walsh, Paige Chiumento and Kaileigh Quinn earned Silver Medals. In the National French Contest/Le Grand Concours, Sarah Jochum and Isabella Pytel earned Silver Medals. Three Rosary students earned top honors on the 2018 National Latin Exam: Julie Bottarini earned Silver Maxima Cum Laude; and Grace Plum and Athena Ye earned Cum Laude.
Rosary WYSE Students Compete at State Rosary’s WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) team finished third in regional competition in February. Maddy Gilmore placed second in Physics at sectionals in March, and Victoria Cammarano also placed in English. Both qualified to compete at State in April at the University of Illinois in Champaign.
Royals Volleyball Regional Champions The Rosary volleyball team won the regional championship for the fourth consecutive year.

Track Team Places 22nd at State Meet
Rosary Presents The Sound of Music
Royals Track won the Class 2A title and four first place finishes at Sectionals, qualifying 8 athletes for State in eight events. The Royals finished 22nd at State with Brooke Delahanty finishing third in the 800m, Lauren Roskuska finishing 12th in the Triple Jump, and the 4x400 relay team of Julie Bottarini, Julianne Hutchinson, Annie Molenhouse, and Brooke Delahanty finishing fourth.
Rosary’s Fall musical, The Sound of Music, was performed November 9-12. The weekend featured a wine tasting fundraiser and a family picnic in Vienna.
Ensemble Wins Superior Rating at IHSA The Rosary Ensemble earned a Division I Superior Rating for the fifth year in a row at the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest on March 3, at Joliet Catholic Academy. Overall, we received 14 Division I Superior ratings, one Division II Excellent rating, and one Division III Good rating.
Band Earns Esprit de Corps Award The Marmion-Rosary Wind Ensemble placed second in Class A and was awarded Best Brass Section by the judges for their outstanding performance at the 37th annual State of the Art Catholic Band Competition on February 17 at St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago. In its first appearance at this competition, the Band was presented with the Jim Moore Esprit de Corps Award, given to the group that most represents the qualities of good conduct, respect and congeniality toward other competitors. The contest is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Over Spring Break 2018, the band made its quadrennial trip to perform at Disney World in Florida.

Dunham Fund Matching Grant Rosary High School is pleased to announce the launch of Rosary’s Women in STEM Capital Campaign. Rosary will embark on a two-year capital campaign to raise $1M to completely renovate and update the STEM wing. This renovation will include four classrooms and two prep rooms for classes relating to the STEM field. It will be a state of the art space to reflect the rigorous education Rosary provides in science and enable the department to expose students to advances in technology, engineering, biometrics, and genetics. The foundation of the campaign is off to a phenomenal start due to the Dunham Fund which has awarded Rosary a $250,000 matching grant.
