Message from the President Adrien Trevallian VCDS President

Happy New Year to everyone!! Especially all our new Members and those who only just joined us from 2013 Cake Expo, as this will be your first chance to actually receive our newsletter. Do check the Events for all the upcoming workshops, for our Branch Committees have already been busy planning it up for 2014. For myself, I’m awfully glad Christmas is over, that time of year I get to know my gingerbread recipe by heart and thoroughly get sick of the sight of them! Hopefully I got to the Myer windows as planned, as I had it on good authority they were all about gingerbread houses this year. This is of course out first electronic newsletter, so this will be a very interesting new adventure for VCDS and in particular our new Editor Nancy. Please do continue to forward all your suggestions etc to Nancy now, you can get her on the vcdseditor@gmail.com email address, which being a general one, means its easy to pass across to the next incoming, if and when. The newsletter will still only be as good as the submissions it receives, so its up to you to help that become reality! The great news about going electronic is, that we can all enjoy the color pictures now and even in better resolution and sizing, as we aren’t quite as restricted as when going to print. If we do not have an email for you, you will get a post copy, but please bear with us thru this transition, we are still working out how to cover off the few prints we need now. If we don’t have your email, please contact the Membership Secretary to have it added to the mailing list as soon as possible.

If you do have email and are not willing to receive your newsletter electronically, please also email Membership Secretary, as the Membership List will now be the repository of this information.

If you would kindly refer to your Nov-Dec issue of the newsletter, it was the decision of those present at the AGM to move forward with electronic, as the expense savings for a year will be significant, on both print and post. This allows State to investigate something more to invest back into our Members. Those on email and catchup on snail mail for those not, will have by now received an invitation to be actively involved in having a State Seminar in late 2014. Thankyou to those who have responded, we shall be in touch soon!! This will need to be getting started asap now, so be on the lookout for meeting dates to make that start. This will be our first State Seminar since 2006, so it would be great to get one happening again, most of our co-horts in the other states hold one every year. This will hopefully give us all a practise run and a taste of what we could achieve for the 2017 National Seminar (Victoria’s next turn to host!). My own last cake for 2013 was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle head for a friend of my son (Noah obviously per pic!). Yes all the boys enjoyed it and several requested part of the eyes on their piece of cake. These sculptured cakes are so much fun to make! See you soon at a workshop!

We would like to wish everybody a Happy New Year and trust you had a lovely Christmas with friends and family. Our last workshop for 2013 was with Lyn Rattle, who amazed us all with her modern flower and the fact she had only had an operation the week before (she is one tough cookie) Was your New Years resolution to help out others? Yes, then put your hand up and help us on the committee ☺ You will be working with a great bunch of ladies, helping with new ideas, you might even learn something new or teach us a thing or two. Most of all you will be helping put together workshops enjoyed by both our members and locals in Casey. If you would like any further information contact one of your current committee ladies Lyn Rattle, Sharon Coutts, Yolanda Cole and Belinda Dalgleish I look forward to seeing you at our next workshop.

Happy New Year everyone! At Eastern we wrapped up 2013 in fabulous macaron style. Our Christmas and 20th anniversary celebration event was beautifully presented by the very talented Vivian Malyan and our online feedback shows attendees have enjoyed great success at home using tips learned on the day. Congratulations to the very lucky Angie Foster who took home the macaron tower. The committee is busy planning an interesting program for 2014. We are commencing in ‘Little Miss Marzipan’ style, with the lovely Kay Douglas presenting Betty the Bathing Beauty. We are starting off as we mean to continue - with lots of hands-on workshops, so be sure to check out our website for further details closer to the date. Again, if there is anything you particularly wish to learn about, please feel free to email us, and we will do our best!Bye for now, and I look forward to catching up with lots of our members at our upcoming workshops.

WOW hasn’t the year just speed by. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New year. Thank you to all those members who gave their support to Northern Branch though out 2013. Those members who came along to our September workshop were surprised by a very unexpected guest. We were all busy concentrating on make our beautiful frangipani with Rhonda Morris when an Elephant came to our door. ( I kid you not, it was an Elephant.) Some of us were so stunned by this sight that we had to get a better look, so frangipanis were forgotten for a few minutes while we went to investigate further. We then of course got back to the real business and finished our Frangipanis. Very one went home with a beautiful spray thanks to Rhonda. Rhonda is always a very interesting demonstrator and we can be sure of getting some excellent results. Our last meeting for 2013 was a demonstration by Rhonda Beer with one of the pieces from the 2013 Seminar. Rhonda showed us some very quick and effective ways to put the final touch to our Christmas cakes. Great ideas and something that everyone can have a go at. The demonstration was followed by our Christmas Lunch. Rhonda beer will be demonstrating again for our first workshop for 2014. On Saturday 18 January 2013 This will be a “hands on “ workshop making some very cute Roosters and chicks.

For this upcoming workshop please contact Irene on 0417 124 391 or toniw@tpg.com.au for further details.
