Maximum recognition in education, international leadership

Rector of the UNAM celebrates the XV Anniversary of the School of Medicine Recognized as the only university in the Southeast to reach a position as an institution of international leadership by attaining the maximum level in the Quality Evaluation 2012 of Private Higher Education Institutions conducted by the Secretariat of Public Education, the Anahuac Mayab University is one of the 34 private institutions in the whole country with the maximum ranking.

18 Academic Excellence | Anáhuac Mayab

In this first voluntary exercise, 1,020 of the 1262 schools registered actually participated. The results reflect the level of commitment to the processes of external evaluation, which helps to ensure the quality of the educational services offered to the public. Among the sister institutions of the Anahuac University Network, we share this merit with the North Mexico campus.

Dr. José Narro Robles, rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico – maximum academic center of the country- gave a conference “Medicine and Challenges of the XXI Century”, within the framework of the XV anniversary of the School of Medicine “José Trinidad Molina Castellanos” of the Anahuac Mayab University. During his talk, he mentioned that “poverty is the number one enemy of health” and exhorted the hundreds of students gathered

together in the Alejandro Gomory Aguilar Auditorium to continue contributing to the health of the people of Yucatan and Mexicans in general. Dr. Narro signed an agreement of collaboration in areas such as; research, innovation, use of installations and scientific equipment, technological assistance and personnel support. This alliance opens up new opportunities to promote research in the area of health between both institutions.

Academic programs of accredited quality

Ninety five percent of the student population study academic programs of quality due to the fact that 98% of the bachelor degrees imparted has received the corresponding accreditation of quality from the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, A.C. (COPAES). Accreditation of a high level academic program implies that such a program has been evaluated by external entities which ensure the objectivity and compliance with quality criteria and standards, previously established, thereby providing the student with the confirmation that he or she is studying an academic program of quality, and at the same time, allowing them access to additional benefits such as international exchange programs in Higher

Education Institutions where this is available. The most recent accreditation was for the Bachelor’s degree in Gastronomy from the Council for Tourism Education Quality A.C. (CONAET); with this, the Anáhuac Mayab became the only private institution in the Southeast and the state of Yucatan to obtain this distinction, which validates the quality of this major’s study plan. Rafael Gutiérrez Niebla, President of CONAET, was present at the unveiling of the commemorative plaque which was celebrated in the Hacienda Mayab - Le Cordon Bleu, which boasts demo kitchens and a sommelier room among other areas, thus providing the excellent formation of Gastronomy and Tourism students.

Tutoring, a key element in the formation process

Renewed study plans and continuous improvement of teachers With the firm commitment to providing an integral formative process of quality, this year the Academic Vice-rectory began working on the renewal of study plans for 2016; the aim being to make them even more pertinent to the needs of the labor market. Similarly, the teaching community receives training and assistance in new teaching and pedagogical strategies so that the students may receive the best experience of the teaching-learning process. The educational model of the Anahuac Mayab University places special emphasis on

22 Academic Excellence | Anรกhuac Mayab

aspects such as: personalized attention, international, cutting edge professional formation through subjects in English and a vision motivated towards management and leadership, human formation through art, culture, ethics, critical thinking, spirituality, and formation for the family, among others. Its flexibility allows the students to choose subjects according to their goals, to obtain their bachelor degree in less time, or study for two bachelor degrees at the same time. In addition to the accumulation of knowledge, their approximation to the model by competencies, allows them to develop abilities and attitudes that will lead each student to perform successfully in both their professional and personal life while serving others: be, know, do and transcend.

Personal attention through an integral system of tutors makes it possible for the institution to facilitate the passage of each student through their university life, thereby reducing desertion and ensuring to some degree that they will conclude their professional studies with success. Each semester more than 3,000 students contact their tutors to analyze their academic status, plan an academic exchange or internships, and to strengthen the sense of a university community through the exchange of experiences between professors and students, always focused on the same objective, the search for truth and good.
