Cover Artist
Emily Eisen
I am a classically trained artist having studied Fine Arts/Painting at Queens College in the 70’s. Beginning to do paintings like “Crab meadow Moonlight” in 2012 was a liberating departure into expressing my inner imprints of movement, color, light, intuition and emotion. I began my exploration of my unique batiks with “Kokopelli Hoedown.’ This opened up the Paint Pathways of my 2015 journey into the myriad of networks that make up the fibers of nature’s structure and movement in color. After being diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in 1995 (and being cured n 2000), I began to study the brain and its inner workings in a class called Brain Gym®101, which in 2002, I became certified to teach! I was viewing the billions of neuro-pathway networks that make up the information superhighway within our brain. It
continually fascinates me. I noticed that the same web of neuron pathways that I observe in images of the brain’s activity looks similar to the crackling networks of my unique batiks. My eyes take a journey into these pathways of fine lines going in and out of the kinetic color activity. Magnetic Images of the brain also show different brain centers lighting up in different colors when doing different functions! My viewers have reported similar entrancing experiences! My unique batik process that I am both artist and witness to, holds unending mystery and surprise with each new piece. I have come to believe that my art is a way for me to both communicate with my brain and to express the interconnection of the inner and out workings of the lifelines within us and surrounding us. I am excited just wondering where this step of my art will lead me to next.

A Tribute to Ray Charles - Inspired by the unique perspective of a visionary blindman and how the gift of blindness changed his life. SOUL OF THE CENTURY is Vinny’s St Marten personal tribute to his musical hero, Ray Charles. When visualizing a Ray Charles tribute, one would expect to see an African American performer sitting at a piano. When Vinny appears on stage, the audience encounters a short, white guy with a shaved head fronting the band. But with his dynamic singing, his natural comedic style, and his playful sense of humor, Vinny puts everyone at ease. And after watching him dance, jump, and physically interact with his band members, people begin to wonder if perhaps, he really can see. Admission: $5 Artist URL: www.vinnymarten.com

Stress May Be Keeping You From
Losing Weight
If you are exercising and eating clean and still not losing weight then you may want to take a look at your stress levels. When you have a lot of stress in your life your body reacts by producing too much cortisol. Cortisol causes an increase in your appetite that can lead to over eating leading to weight gain. The weight that is gained is often in the form of visceral fat. Visceral fat is abdominal fat. Visceral fat has been linked to diabetes and heart disease. So how can you avoid this type of weight gain? Get your stress under control! Here are some ways you can work on controlling your stress: 1. Exercise: sweat it out! Exercise also increases endorphin levels which make you feel good and happy 2. Read a book: reading can help take your mind off of stressful situations and allow you to relax and focus on something enjoyable 3. Listen to relaxing music. Music can affect your mood in many ways so put on something relaxing or whatever type of
music you enjoy listening to. 4. Meditate: when you have a voice guiding you through the meditation and taking you through a story or scenario you can focus on that and not on the things that are causing you the stress. 5. Eat clean healthy food. Sugar and fatty foods can cause anxiety and make you feel jittery which will exacerbate the feelings of stress. 6. Surround yourself with positive people that make you feel good about yourself

OUTDOOR LIVING’S HOTTEST TRENDS FOR 2016 SPEAK STYLISH STATEMENTS
The first sight and songs of red-breasted robins and purple finches along with the taps of redheaded woodpeckers are among our bright reminders that the doldrums of winter are fading fast. And for homeowners with a backyard or driveway makeover on their wish lists, the early bird usually catches the worm. Paver distributors and certified professional contractors are quick to tell me that these eager customers already have ideas about what they want to do, and are bringing them photos from online idea boards like Pinterest and discoveries found at regional home and garden shows. Hardscape product manufacturers such as Cambridge — makers of pavingstones with ArmorTec®, wall systems and a full line of ancillary patio amenities — have answered their calls for broader selections. Color, pattern and texture choices that differentiate one manufacturer from another, combined with brand recognition and single-source availability, are the deciding factors. Consumers want a pavement that will increase curb appeal and can expand living space while providing a good return on investment. Designers continue the trend of adapting popular color schemes of stylish interiors to outside spaces. While neutral shades like toffees, grays and chestnuts remain popular, we also see trends shifting to pastels and more distinctive vibrant paver colors as reflected in the custom Cambridge South Beach Collection, which includes among others, Pink Sands and Sea Green. Consumers now have more designer-inspired pavement material choices than ever before. Cast Stone, wood-textured, larger- and smaller-scale pavers, even quarried natural stone and travertine, offered by pavingstone producers like Cambridge, can co-exist or stand alone in a myriad of reimagined treatments. For example, Cambridge Timber Stone plank pavers bring the look and feel of coveted wood flooring to a patio, yet they coordinate well with other hardscaping materials. US News & World Report stated: “Building an outdoor living space is one of the most affordable ways to expand your home.” The publication affirmed that adding an open-air, outdoor living room versus building an additional room on your home, can cost you less than
half the expense. An experienced hardscape contractor or Cambridge Distributor can help develop a budget tailored to your likes and needs. Before you begin, put together a backyard wish list that considers the lifestyle interests and pastimes of other members of your household. Outdoor cooking devotees may be interested in an open-air kitchen or authentic pizza oven. Models from Cambridge are made with durable, hardscape materials and come complete with stainless steel appliance packages and convenience features designed specifically for outdoor use. Weekend gardeners may opt for a raised planting bed or perhaps it’s time to think about a poolscape or spa. If you’re of the thinking that when it comes to a backyard or front yard makeover, “birds of a feather flock together”, think again — for with this year’s robust selection of hardscaping products and patio comfort and convenience features, the creativity and personal touches are infinite. For more ideas in Outdoor Lifestyling™, visit cambridgepavers.com or a nearby Cambridge distributor.
Charles H. Gamarekian is the Chairman/CEO of Cambridge Pavers Inc. He is one of the founders and a current board member of the Interlocking Pavement Institute. Organized in 1993, ICPI is the North American trade association representing the interlocking concrete paver industry and considered by peer associations around the world as the leader in development and dissemination of technical information for design professionals and contractors. Mr. Gamarekian is recognized worldwide as an expert in his field and is a frequent speaker on the proper installation of pavingstones, wallstones and many outdoor living products.
