From the Publisher I love this time of year! There's so much going on. From the beautiful colors on the trees and ground, to the chill in the air. As we wrap up this Fall issue, we've been remembering all we have done so far this season. From the Long Island Family Fun Festival on the South Shore to the Long Island Fall Festival on the North. We've been to The Oyster Festival to our West, and Cow Harbor Day to our East. We recently helped Kevin Nathan celebrate Appliance World's 20th anniversary, and yes, he has been advertising with me the whole time! We've been to shows at The Paramount, Live Art Fusion with Rich Rivkin, Flash Mobs at Brittania Yachting Center and at Four Restaurant, and we've been involved with the launching of a social media network with John Dowling, and the list goes on. Now our focus turns to the Holidays and to our 13 year anniversary in January. There's no time to slow down for the winter, and we hope to see you at many of the wonderful events that Long Island has to offer, including the Holiday Parade through Huntington Village, boat parades the annual tree lighting at Prime restaurant, welcoming Santa and so much more. Creating a Stress-Free Wedding Part 1
Most couples assume the stress they experience prior to their wedding can be attributed to the simple fact of living in a stressful world, wherein the only solution involves evoking a stoic, grin-and-bear-it attitude. But this need not be the case. What we call stress is the energy we feel in our bodies as a result of focusing upon fears, anxieties, and negative projections. It’s a malady that robs you of the joy, peace, love and contentment that you rightly deserve while preparing for your Wedding Celebration. Over the years, I’ve been able to hone in on the challenges where stress most often develops. The following are some simple but powerful skills I’ve been teaching to effectively remedy these stressors; skills any couple could use to create a stress-free wedding. Stress often begins when you allow your mind to race and think disastrous thoughts. You start to imagine all sorts of things that could go wrong and suddenly the feeling of stress comes over you. Rather than sacrifice your mental energy to such negative ideas and projections, make an agreement with yourself and your fiance’ to stay focused on the positive. Let go of yesterday and don’t worry about tomorrow. Focus on the present moment. To paraphrase a wise old saying ‘the past is over the future not yet here, in this moment is the gift, that’s why it’s called the present.’ Remember, you’ve hired skilled, experienced wedding professionals: caterers, florists, musicians, DJs, photographers, etc. who know how to work things out and get things done. As you focus on this you’ll be able to relax more, treasure your special day, and enjoy the gifts of the present moment. (See next month’s issue for Part 2.)

One of the most popular style trends recently has been the resurgence of vintage clothing. Gone are the days when the word “vintage” conjured up images of moth ball scented Granny sweaters and outdated wardrobes. Vintage now stands for something unique and one of a kind. It’s a way of showing your fashion independence and personal style. The combination of mixing something old with something new has become an art form that works for all ages. Technically an item that is 25 years or older is considered “vintage”. There is a fondness for the styles of yesteryear that many of todays designers are taking their inspiration from. It’s not unusual for designers to have collections mimicking their past pieces. Betsey Johnson for example just held a fashion show consisting of a curated collection of her pieces from the 60, 70s and 80s. The vintage rage has even brought Paganne, a very popular name from the 70s back, and they will be relaunching their line in 2013. Vintage has always been a very strong look on the red carpet. With all of Hollywood clamoring for the ultimate fashion statement, it has become a must have for any hip fashionista. Chloe Sevigny, Drew Barrymore, Penelope Cruz, Julia Roberts, Sarah Jessica Parker and Beyonce are just a few that are huge fans of vintage couture. So how do you get the look? When introducing vintage into your wardrobe, using a 50/50 ratio is recommended. (Half of your outfit being new and half being vintage) Start out with one statement piece and work your look around that. You could also add vintage accessories such as jewelry, scarves, shoes or handbags to a completely modern outfit. Maybe flirt with a dramatic updo from the 50s or long mermaid waves of the 70s. Sultry cat eye make up and a strong colored lipstick is another option. There are so many ways to incorporate this style and make it modern and hip! There are many reputable online vintage stores and quite alot in Brooklyn and Manhattan. If you’re not lucky enough to live near the few vintage stores on LI, most towns have a good consignment shop or high end thrift shop where you can occasionally find true vintage treasures. Give yourself time to hunt through the racks though…that’s half the fun! Adriene Passannante is the owner of Lotus Vintage, an online vintage clothing boutique. Timeless Toy My young grandkids were thrilled to learn their parents bought a new refrigerator. Actually they didn’t care about the refrigerator, they wanted the box. It seems big boxes are timeless toys. As a kid I remember the excitement when one was discovered by one of my city block friends. Word spread at the speed of light without cellphones. Doorbells rang summing us to the location, usually a nearby vacant lot. Standing around our new prize, we’d make excited suggestions to the “owner” (the kid who found it) about how to best convert it into something useful which was usually a clubhouse. With plans made, we’d get to work and play in it until it crumbled. It’s often hard to find similarities between my generation and today’s but playing in big boxes is surely one. Others might be flying kites and riding bikes but the team sport of big box conversion is by far more fun and a lot cheaper.

The art of the LUNGE
I am often asked “If you were going to do only one leg exercise which one would you do?” My answer to this is the LUNGE. The lunge is the perfect leg exercise and the best thing about it is you can do it anywhere anytime with no equipment. A lunge is done by standing with one leg in front of the other with your legs apart. The foot on the front leg stays flat on the floor with most of your weight through your heel. The rear foot is up on the toes the entire exercise. You then bend the front knee, keeping it over the ankle until the back knee almost touches the floor. Just before it touches the floor you push through the front heel to straighten your legs back to the start position. The lunge can be done three ways: moving up and down in place, lunge walk by doing moving lunges across the floor or moving lunges in place. Why is the Lunge so wonderful? Because it works your glutes (buttocks and hips), front of your thighs (quadriceps), posterior thigh (hamstrings), calf muscles (gastroc and soleus) while challengeing
your balance at the same time. When your balance is challenged your core muscles (abdominals and back) must work to keep you from losing your balance. Your arms can easily be worked during the lunge by holding your arms out to your side at 90 degrees. The lunge is a weight bearing exercise. Weight bearing exercises have been shown to increase bone So my advice is to add lunges into your weekly workouts. If you are on vacation or travelling and trying to squeeze in a workout the lunge is a great choice.

Vitamin D– The Whole Story One of the most common questions I get from my patients is, “What’s the story with Vitamin D”. I thought that it would be a good topic for my readers. So here it is! Different forms of Vitamin D To understand vitamin D pharmacology one needs to be familiar with the different forms of vitamin, namely Cholecalciferol, calcidiol, and calcitriol. Cholecalciferol (VitaminD3) Cholecalciferol is the naturally occurring form of vitamin D. It is the substance made in large quantities in the skin when sunlight strikes bare skin. It can also be taken as a supplement. Cholecalciferol is vitamin D; all other compounds are either metabolic products or chemical modifications (eg ergocalciferol D2) Calcidiol (25(OH)D3 or25D3) Calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D) is a prehormone in the blood that is directly made from cholecalciferol. When being tested for vitamin D deficiency, calcidiol is the only blood test that should be drawn. When someone refers to vitamin levels they are usually referring to calcidiol levels. Calcitriol (1,25(OH)2D3 or 1,25,D3) Calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D) is made from calcidiol in the kidneys and in the tissues and is the most potent steroid hormone derived from cholecalciferol. In fact, it is the most potent steroid hormone in the human body. Calcitriol has significant anticancer activity. It is sometimes referred to as the active form of vitamin D. Calcitriol levels should never be used to determine vitamin D deficiency. In order to understand why vitamin D levels should be keep full, we need to understand the next step in the metabolism of cholecalciferol. After the liver turns cholecalciferol into calcidiol, calcidiol follows two pathways. The first pathway takes priority- as our lives literally depend on it-but it is the second pathway that’s causing all the excitement. However, if the reserve is low or if the liver phases of detoxification are compromised due to faulty conversion processes, most calcidiol takes the first pathway. The first pathway leads to the kidney where calcidiol is turned into cacitriol. Calcitriol is the most potent steroid hormone in the body. Calcitriol is made by the kidneys and circulates in the bloodstream to maintain calcium levels. Calcium is vital to the function of the cells of the body, without enough calcitriol in
the blood, calcium levels fall and illness sets in. Therefore, the first priority for calcidiol is to go to the kidneys where it makes enough calcitriol to secrete in the bloodstream in order to regulate serum calcium. The second vitamin D pathway leads to the tissues and that is where all the action is. All of the amazing benefits of vitamin D in the last 10 years are from vitamin D going down the second pathway. If any calcidiol is left over-that is, if the reserve it full and the kidneys are getting all then calcidiol the need to maintain serum calcium – then calcidiol is able to take another pathway – one that leads directly into the cells! This path is now only being fully understood and causing all the excitement around the world, especially concerning cancer for example. These are the autocrine (inside the cell) and paracrine (around the cell) functions of the vitamin D system. These functions are crucial to understand why we should keep the vitamin D level full. If we only have a small amount of calcidiol in the blood, virtually all of it goes to the kidney, which then makes extra calcitriol to keep the serum calcium level from falling, however almost no calcidiol gets to the tissues to make calcitriol. But when the reserve is full, the left over calcidiol goes to the many cells of the body to make their own calcitriol to go after degenerative conditions- and they do so with gusto! In fact, they appear to make as much calcitriol as they can. No other steroid hormone system in the body works this way as a manufacture of calcitriol in the tissues is unique. The first real evidence of cancer fighting properties of vitamin emerged in the early 80’s, when researchers found that if they added calcitriol to immature malignant leukemia cells. The cells would stop growing. They could only quess why this was, but it is now shown that vitamin interacts with an unusually large number of genes and has the apparent ability to turn them on and off. The best for of vitamin D is D3 (cholecalciferol) is derived from the lanolin in sheep’s wool and is free of vitamin A. Fat soluble vitamin D is converted buy the kidney’s to the hormone calcitriol, the activated form of vitamin D which affects a variety of target tissues including bone, intestine, muscle, brain, skin and immune system cells. Next time you visit your physician have your vitamin level checked. All of your bodies cells will thank you!

To buy this phone for the sake of getting the latest technology will set you back as much as $900+ bucks! Waiting until your current contract expires make much better financial sense. An important note to all! Apple has recently tried to break away from Google’s GPS mapping system, as they are under development to create their own maps and GPS information. Please note that this feature was released way to early, as a result Apple has had to let its clients know that the GPS portion of the IPhone needs to be manually changed back to the Google mapping system, at least until Apple fixes the problem. On a positive note SIRI has been updated! A better and more complete SIRI means SIRI will understand more of what you’re asking of her. Some of the CONS: No what phone you had previous to the new IPhone 5, be prepared to do away with your adapter and or charger from past phones. The New IPhone 5 now comes with a completely new engineered Data/Charger connector! (No worries, you can now purchase a converter!) Another Con that business people should know is that Sprint and Verizon cannot surf the internet and talk on the phone at the same time. I know I use this feature all the time. I have noticed that Apple and Google are NOT getting along, (which is not benefiting the consumer) as they have removed the YouTube App and the obvious removal of the GPS Maps feature that worked so well with Google Maps. There is a fix to reinstate the Google maps, and a standalone YouTube app for that! Also note I hear the case (made from aluminum) scratches easily! This is easily resolved with a custom IPhone case!

Here are some ideas and suggestions for getting started. The first place to get an overall picture of your homes energy score is the EnergyStar.gov website. When you’re on the site, click on the “Assess Your Home” link in the “Home Improvement” window. You’ll need to know the approximate size of your home, including the basement, in square feet, the kWH used from your electric bills (which you can get from LIPower.org if you don’t have copies), and the heat/hot water fuel type and amount used. This “Yardstick Score” will give you an idea of your home’s efficiency or lack of efficiency. Next, for Huntington homeowners, you can visit EECOHomes.org to arrange a phone consultation regarding your home energy use. They will guide you on the audit process and possible financing options available through NYSERDA. You can visit the NYSERDA. NY.gov site for more information on programs available for all NY residents for energy audits and financing option. Any LIPA customers can check out the Home Performance with Energy Star program or if you have a central air conditioning system look at the LIPA Home Performance Direct program. More information is available on the LIPower.org website. Energy efficiency in homes is an important issue for all. To find out more about some of the things you can do please check your local Huntington Library calendar for the upcoming Home Energy Efficiency Clinics that are currently being offered by the Renewable Energy Task Force of the Town of Huntington. One last note, most people don’t check the energy efficiency of their homes because they think they can’t afford to correct what’s wrong. There are many rebates, incentives and grant programs available to help. Also many of the solutions are affordable and can even be DIY projects. So what are you waiting for? THE TROOPS ARE COMING
One June day in 1918, residents stared in awe as a convoy of U.S. Army trucks came east on Jericho Turnpike and entered the Randel farm. The ninety acres of farmland on the northeast corner of Jericho Turnpike and Larkfield Road were quickly transformed into Brindley Field Air Station. The main house immediately became the headquarters surrounded by a tent city housing 600 to 700 men. By mid-July, mess halls, barracks, and a medical center had been erected and electricity had been introduced to the area from the Lilco plant in Northport. In August five large steel hangars were erected to house the squadron’s aircraft. Brindley Field was a supporting unit for Mitchell field and was the final training station for fighter pilots heading to the war in France. The citizens of Northport organized the Northport Community Association to welcome these servicemen and to provide them with a social center. The Northport Yacht Club offered its clubhouse as a YMCA with all club activities open to the troops and sleeping quarters available for those on leave. In the colder weather, these accommodations moved to the Masonic Building on Main Street. The soldiers responded enthusiastically to the community’s hospitality. They staged football and basketball games for the benefit of the War Relief Fund. Many of the men gratefully participated in programs provided by St. Paul’s Methodist and the First Presbyterian churches. Although the war ended on November 11, the men were still under arms and local families were urged to invite them to Thanksgiving Day dinner. By January 1919, demobilization had begun and on Friday evening January 10, Northport Night was held at the airfield for residents to bid farewell to the troops. During this ceremony, Lieutenant Frakes presented to the people of Northport a large framed photograph of the 502nd Squadron accompanied by a statement of appreciation for their warm hospitality. Although the airfield was in existence less than a year, it had a few long term effects on both individuals and the local community at large. In the next few years, there were four marriages between local women and servicemen from the base, and the East Northport residents living near the base were able to replace their oil lamps with the newly available electricity. Today there is an historical marker in the parking lot on the site, but by 1958 an aerial photo showed no trace of the air field that once prepared pilots for battle.

Thanksgiving Safety Tips Thanksgiving Day has more than double the number of home cooking fires than an average day according to the U.S. Fire Administration. In fact, each year more than 4,000 fires occur on Thanksgiving Day. To help prevent home fires this Thanksgiving, please adhere to the following tips: • Keep potholders and food wrappers at least three feet away from heat sources while cooking. • Wear tighter fitting clothing with shorter sleeves when cooking. • Make sure all stoves, ovens, and ranges have been turned off when you leave the kitchen. • Set timers to keep track of turkeys and other food items that require extended cooking times • Turn handles of pots and pans on the stove inward to avoid accidents . • Follow all manufacturer guidelines regarding the appropriate use of appliances . • After guests leave, designate a responsible adult to walk around the home making sure that all candles and smoking materials are extinguished. Even with the best preparation and precautions, accidents can happen. Thanksgiving is high time for cooking related burns. Minor burns can be treated easily if you remember to save the butter for the rolls and not a burn. For a superficial burn, cool the area by running it under cold water until the heat eases and then loosely cover the burn with a sterile dressing. Another danger that can interrupt a good turkey dinner is choking. The most common cause of choking is talking while eating. If you feel as if food may be caught in your throat, never leave the room, stay where others can see you and help if your airway becomes blocked. Just because we get to take a break from dieting on Thanksgiving, doesn’t mean we can throw caution to the autumn winds. Remember these suggestions and have a happy and safe holiday. November Skies
One thing I love about Long Island is living near many magnificent beaches and the great photo opportunities that they can offer. Some of the best sunsets I’ve seen have occurred in November, when the setting sun and late fall skies turn magnificent cloud formations into a rainbow of color right before dusk. Along with the cool, crisp air, there is a clear sense of winter’s imminent return. While I’m strolling on the beach looking for that perfect sunset to be captured by the click of the camera, I realize that too many days go by where we miss the chance to share in some of nature’s wonders. There really are so many that can take our breath away. Some of the simple things that this life has to offer can be the most beautiful. During this Thanksgiving season we should be grateful for the natural beauty that surrounds us and not take it for granted. We can play a part by volunteering to do a beach, park or neighborhood cleanup. The ineffable experience of seeing a vast ocean meeting an endless sky can inspire us to reflect on what an awesome creation this is. Every sunrise and sunset is so unique, like each one of us, and to be able to capture that “Moment in Time” that we will never experience again, is the beauty of photography. I always find it exciting to be able to seize a special moment or event and make it live on in a photo. Introducing other subject matter, such as a sand dune fence, a piece of driftwood or a distant sailboat, can enhance the interest of a seaside sunset without taking away from the main subject. What we may “see” or “experience” in a photo is also a personal reflection for each one of us. A lone sea gull may represent solitude to one viewer or peace to another; where as a flock of geese flying by may be interpreted as freedom or companionship. A close up of a sea shell or a wave crashing over a rock is nature at its best. Whether it’s a spectacular sunset or a bumble bee resting on a flower, when it comes to nature photography, the sky’s the limit!

Before Things Get Crazy You knew it was coming--The Holiday season. It creeps up--surreptitiously--with the Halloween ads. Halloween has become a big deal, and much more may be required than trying to figure out how much candy to buy. Hopefully you’ve finished eating the leftover Kit-Kat bars by now. Is Thanksgiving at your house this year? This annual event at our home is super-sized every other year--and this year is the big one, with some guests staying over for the weekend. Hmmm. Should I start panicking yet? When Santa comes out at the end of the Thanksgiving Day Parade, I start my carefully controlled allout anxiety attack, even though the planning and preparation started weeks before. If you’re hard wired to want everything to be as fabulous as your guests have come to expect that it will be (pressure!), there are some things you can do before it gets crazy. You can even survive the Christmas season and breathe a New Year’s Eve sigh of relief with a bit of advanced planning. Procrastination is the enemy, for things do go by in a flash. So here’s some advice: Spend a few hours each week to set a roadmap for yourself. Throw out the piles of newspapers and old magazines that you saved because you might need them someday. Clear off your desk-nothing will make you breathe a sigh of relief like throwing away piles of stuff and actually not feeling like a hoarder. When you can see your desk top, reward yourself, and get to
work--but keep it simple. You don’t have to peruse every variation of sweet potato pie ever created in order to find the one that will make your guests happy. All recipes are on line now, so twenty year old splattered copies of cooking magazines can go out. I know it’s hard for many people to part with things that you “Might Need Someday!” Don’t worry. Great food will be served. Nobody will leave hungry. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could enjoy the process too? As I have always said, bite the bullet and polish the silver a week in advance. Most of us are overworked and overscheduled, but as for the “good” stuff you never use, if not now, when? Buy linen napkins by the dozen and save the paper ones for everyday use. Plastic plates that “look exactly like real china?” Shameful. Would you use plastic flowers on your Thanksgiving table? Mix and match is fine. A real tablecloth please--not paper. Subtly scented candles placed strategically are so welcoming. A warm glow that tells everyone that something wonderful will be happening (as long as you don’t discuss the election). You want your friends and family to feel special, and with a few little touches, they surely will. Stop saving the good stuff for someday. Someday is now. And please remember the people less fortunate than us, and help them to enjoy Thanksgiving too.

The Pleasures of the Autumn Palette: Burt Reminick There is a bittersweet majesty about the golden days of fall that photographer Burt Reminick celebrates in his images. Enchanted by autumn’s dazzling oranges and yellows, Burt says that capturing colors at their peak and their reflections in
Burt’s artfully composed “Abstract Reflections at Twin Ponds” elevates a view of fallen leaves and a submerged tree trunk to the sublime. In contrast, “Swan in Twin Ponds” is a dreamy photograph with impressionist overtones. In yet another photograph, the circa 1889 building at the intersection of Woodbine and Scudder Avenues in Northport that once housed the Thompson Law Book Publishing Company is framed by crimson foliage. Burt is among four artists whose work will be showcased as part of “BOLD,” an exhibit that runs from Nov. 16 through Feb. 25 at Huntington Arts Council’s Art-trium Gallery, 25 Melville Park Road, Melville. Curator William Grabowski sought artists whose images boast compelling subject matter, color and style. Burt plans to display his brilliantly colored abstract floral pieces printed on aluminum and a potpourri of nature shots, including a red-eyed tree frog and a dragonfly.

The Future of Social Networking Ready for a Full Scale Launch Weepwa.com credits itself as the “future of social media” and local Northport resident John Dowling Jr. has spent the last five years developing this sophisticated social media network with a handful of angel investors, software developers, and artists and Weepwa is now ready for a full scale launch. Jim Savalli sat down with John and asked him to help us make sense of this futuristic social media network that was literally built in John’s imagination. Q: What’s a Weepwa? A: Weepwa is literally just a random name that I came up with after watching an episode of the Little Rascals where the sound of a cake was very similar to WEEPWA; I thought it was catchy and funny. After searching the Internet and finding that all domain extensions were available, we obtained a trademark to the name. Typically when someone here’s the name, they giggle or ask “What’s a Weepwa?” with a smile on their face.
Q: What was your inspiration to build a Social Media Network? A: I was sick for a long time and I was not always able to go out during the Winter or Summer because the extreme cold and hot days made it very difficult for me. I wanted to turn what was down time into something that would create residual income for my children.

Q: How is your health now? A: During a year of only working limited production assignments, I was able to reverse the condition almost in its entirety with the help of surgeons, three surgeries, Dr. Leva (my physician), and some recently released medications. I was also able to lose over 91 pounds in just under a year, but not without sacrificing a great deal of time to walking 2-5 hours per day, and enduring a great deal of pain. However, now it appears that I have this condition under control, where it had me under its control for well over 15 years. My health is now constantly improving but I am still limited. Q: Why did you start Weepwa. com? A: At first I wanted to get back into software development and technology after taking an extended break from that vertical market and segwaying into the arts. However, I later realized that the Social Media Networking markets are just like when AT&T was the only telecom company and competition was introduced. Anyone could show value with a better product and a different business model. My years of experience in software development and broadband voice, data, and video network analysis and design prepared me for the task of designing and developing a cooler and more robust program. And by offering profit sharing to our virtual television channel partners and multimedia bloggers, we have a business model which is rewarding our professional entertainers and artists for sharing their content. Other networks barely offer anything at all other than the free use of the web sites. So, really to support my family, but up and above that to provide a tool for all of the struggling artists and entertainers to

develop residual incomes from shared ad banner revenues and pay per view revenues in a very challenging economy for them. Q: So is Weepwa.com for everyone or just for entertainers and artists? A: Weepwa.com is an invite-only network for publishing content. All videos and photographs are the center of attention where ads are just an ancillary focus of our website. To publish on Weepwa.com on a dedicated co-branded channel or multimedia blog, you have to submit samples of your work and we have to approve you. However, to view, comment, use our free in video texting and video chat software, anyone can join. Q: Why would artists and entertainers want to publish on Weepwa.com? A: Outside of the high percentage of ad revenues we share with our “partners,” we also contribute to those that are developing substantial fan bases by featuring them in productions like documentaries or interview-style series we produce. If they are really successful at attracting fans, we actually produce entire series or programs for them at our expense or help by significantly subsidizing the cost of those productions by as much as 50%. So, we are not just a passive social media network, we are a hybrid social media network and professional production company that supports our artists dreams and ambitions, which is unlike any other social network in the market.
Q: What type of productions do you produce now? A: While we were in development, we produced pilots for cooking series, entertainment series, extreme sports series, documentaries, music videos, shorts, and even a low budget feature film prior to launching Weepwa.com. However, now we are mostly focusing on flash mob videos, as I am totally addicted to producing and filming them, after my first one went viral with now well over 1.5 million views in only a little over half a year. Q: How many Flash Mob Videos will you produce for Weepwa.com in 2013? A: We already have a dozen or so in pre-production, with co-producers who are typically entertainers or modern artists, and in some cases just social networking gurus who know how much fun they are to be in and how valuable they can be in exposure if and when they go viral. However, we have a wish list of approximately 200 different ideas we want to co-produce featuring guest hosts and teaming up with fledgling and experienced executive producers to fund and or develop the projects. We are even producing several of them right here on Long Island.
Q: How do entertainers and artists monetize their content (videos and photographs) on Weepwa.com? A: We have an integrated, customdeveloped ad banner system which allows advertisers to select content on their own for running pre-roll videos, post-roll videos, in video product placement, and typical display ads adjacent to the photographs and videos which are uploaded by our members. Each time an ad runs, whoever uploaded that video or photograph receives a portion of that revenue. PayPal collects all of our revenue, so it is all third party verifiable and it leaves no room for “funny accounting,” which you hear about all the time in the entertainment business. So, they simply share in the profits of advertisers who like their work. Even their own friends and families may choose to advertise their own businesses on their content, knowing that a good portion is going back to support the art or career of the member who uploaded it. Q: What are you future plans for Weepwa. com? A: I would very much like to remain the majority partner and set Weepwa.com up as a network whose goal is always the same - to support the financial needs of my family and children, and to help artists and entertainers survive, and even prosper, in this new world where the Internet allows the content creator to self-produce and distribute without being last in line for a minimum percentage of the profits, if any at all. Q: How much does it cost to use Weepwa.com or become a member? A: Weepwa.com is completely free to use for all of our content providers and members. The costs of hosting, streaming the media, maintaining the software, and continuing to develop Weepwa.com is accomplished by our sponsors, both in the virtual world of the Internet and in the real

world, where we publicize our sponsors while we tour the country making our flash mob videos. Q: How much does it cost to participate in one of your flash mob videos? A: In a perfect world, we would find a sponsor for all of them, but in this economy that is not always possible. So some of them are completely free because we have local sponsors who support them, and in other cases our participants contribute between twenty five and fifty dollars each to share the cost of making them, but they also get free head shots, candid portraits during the after party or viewing party, and of course an official DVD of the event after the initial run of the video on Weepwa. com. Frankly, participating in a flash mob video is more fun than going to a concert or Broadway play, which often exceeds one hundred dollars just for a seat. So, we really share the costs with our team of people who participate in them. Q: Do you have to be a professional to be accepted for a multimedia blog or Channel on Weepwa.com? A: No, absolutely not, in fact Weepwa.com was developed for those who are just getting started in the business. To those with hundreds of thousands of fans. Weepwa.com is a platform

that will grow over time and that should always produce some revenues depending on how talented you truly are, and how much time you put into promoting your own art or talent. Q: Do you have any final thoughts you would like to share with our readers? A: After five years of development, working every moment of my life that I was not booked on actual assignments, working without pay and dedicating my life to this project, I hope that the entertainers and artists who are struggling adopt Weepwa.com as the platform of choice because I have been an artist for over 30 years and I know how hard it can be in the ups and downs our economy faces. Weepwa will help support their talents and creativity with residual income during the tough times. It’s better than working two jobs or giving up and going to work as a waiter or waitress just to pay your bills. So, if you are a model, actor, actress, musician, fine artist, film maker, photographer, cinematographer, or animator, Weepwa should be where you spend time social networking because we care about your art, and appreciate that most of us are involved in the arts because it is a labor of love, and not always profitable.

In New York nearly 3.7 million people are in need of literary services with many of them not being able to read beyond the fifth grade level. The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association has established a literacy program with the goal of creating a passion for reading and writing for children and adults through a student and adult literacy program. Their school programs annually serve over 7000 students who read and write poetry with a published poet on class trips. The organization promotes excellence in writing literacy though their annual Young Student Poetry Writing Contest which receives over 4000 entries. He had this comment, “It is a great honor, and Whitman had an eormous great influence on all of us. He was a great genius and a revolutionary poet so it’s nice to associate myself with any organization that has his name attached.” While guests mingled in the grand ballroom sipping champagne and feasting on a multitude of canapés with shrimp, crab cakes, lamb chops, pasta, veal, for starters, they were entertained by the Jazz and Ragtime Piano by Michael Soloway. Dr. William Walter, Board President, and his wife Susan greeted the guests and he had this comment, “ As you know, E.L. Doctorow is a well known writer who has written a number of very popular books and has graciously agreed to come and be our honoree tonight. school student from Ward Melville HS received first place in the 2012 Young Poets Contest and mesmerized the audience with his beautiful reading The Song of the Brooklyn Bridge. The teaching excellence award went to Renee Petrola a fifth grade teacher at Mt. Sinai School. The final award, Champion of Literacy went to E.L. Doctorow. After the awards and dinner and desert the guests danced off all those calories to the rocking music of Gaige Simon. The party ended before the magic hour of midnight as cars drove away across the cobblestone road of OHEKA bathed in light of the full moon. Dr. Cynthia Paulis, a medical correspondent and international lecturer, is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Family Practice. A native of Long Island she spent four years as Lt. Commander with the USPHS working with Native Americans in Oklahoma and 18 years working border towns in Texas before returning to NY. She was a medical correspondent for CBS in Texas. Holiday Theater in Northport
The magic of theater is such that, within the course of only a few hours, we are transported to a different place and time, and meet characters for whom we may come to care deeply. This holiday season theatergoers can expect to experience some unparalleled theater when the curtain goes up in Northport. Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday saga, A Christmas Carol, adapted for the stage by Michael Wilson, opens at the John W. Engeman Theater on Nov. 15. In the classic tale which is both a haunting ghost story and a heartwarming tale of love and redemption, an embittered old miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, undergoes a spiritual awakening after three spirits show him the error of his ways. Fisker Karma
This green energy sports car premiered in the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and after some setbacks with the initial launch date, the first Fisker Karma was delivered in late July of 2011. The Karma is a pure series hybrid, powered by a pair of 120 kW (161 hp) electric motors. The battery pack for the car runs down the center of the car separating the right and left side which prevents having a fifth middle seat in the back. When the battery becomes depleted or when the driver decides to switch into "Sport" mode, the front-mounted 260-hp 2.0-liter Ecotec four cylinder direct injected and turbocharged gasoline engine powers a generator that sends electricity directly to the drive motors. The Karma features a 125 mph top speed and is capable of reaching 60 mph from standstill in 6.3 seconds. The Karma comes standard with a solar powered roof that not only helps in charging the battery, but also helps in controlling the cabin climate control system. The Karma’s inside cabin is the perfect example of the devotion to use reclaimed, recycled and reusable materials when it is improved with modern technology. Three types of interior wood trim are available in the Karma, rescued wood, sunken wood and fallen wood; all of which are from reclaimed lumber. No live growth is ever used. Even the interior is energy efficient due to "EcoSuede" coming from 100% recycled post industry virgin polyester and the leather treated at the world's first energy self-sufficient, closed-loop leather manufacturing plant.

People ask me all the time if it’s easy being a hipster. I’ll be honest with you it’s always come very naturally to me. But thanks for asking. Social media is so much fun. By “fun” of course I mean “annoying”. Listened to Chris Brown’s new hit and slept like a baby! It’s called Don’t Wake Me Up in case you didn’t get it. Huntington needs to change the SIGN when you enter town. It should read: Welcome to Huntington! Good luck finding a parking spot!
I’m seeing a lot of advertising for tooth replacement. Apparently the toothless population on Long Island is on the rise. Real estate agents are now putting their pictures on the FOR SALE signs outside of the properties. Are people making home buying decisions based on the looks of the real estate agents? Wow, that real estate agent it hot! Maybe I’ll buy THAT house. I heard a commercial for Heritage for the Blind, seeking car donations. Are blind people driving now? At least they can’t text and drive, right? I like Long Island because you can walk around and nobody asks you anything. You can’t walk down one city block without someone asking you for something! Got any change? Wanna buy an umbrella? Need a date? Stop it! Parents! Can we just agree that your kids should be at least potty trained BEFORE you get them their own cell phone. I’m just saying.
