Inautumn2021,lotsof local peopletook partin aCreative CommunityInquiry to help to shape thefutureofNorwich Theatre. The pioneering move is designed to cocreatecreative experiences thatbest reflectthe widestpossiblerangeof communitiesin Norfolkfront andcentre. Aiming toengage people outside its recognisedvisitors, Norwich Theatreheldengagementeventssuch asopenmornings,markettoursand rananonlinesurveytoconnectwith people acrossthecountytoexplore whomightbetheaudiencesand participantsofthefutureifbarriers such astravel,finances or perceived notionsaroundstereotypescould be removed. Those whotookpart were also asked to sharewhatstoriestheywant totell or hearinperformances; what themesarerelevantandimportant to them;and howNorwich Theatre can helpprovide opportunities for amoreinclusive,creative future. A broadrangeofgroups were invited to directlyparticipateincluding Norwich AgeUK,StMartin's Housing,East NorfolkSixth Form Collegeand NorwichCityof Sanctuary. StephenCrocker,CEOand Creative Director of Norwich Theatre, said:“Itrulybelieve that ourCreative CommunityInquiryislikelytobe oneofthe mostimportant piecesof work we have ever undertaken.The inquiry represents ourpassionate beliefthatweshoulddoall we can toensurethat ourreach iswider andourimpact deeper in apostpandemic world. “Through conversations, creative activitiesandworkshops we willbe able to include thewidebreadth of localknowledge,skillsandlived experiencesofthepeople in Norfolk within our plans for ourfuture.”
