President’s Welcome Villager would like to extend a friendly welcome to our Hammies friends and hope you have a memorable and festive time at Brookside today. The mere fact that we are the two oldest club sides in the country makes this friendly derby an even more special occasion and hopefully we will have an exciting day’s rugby. Normally the fixture takes place at the beginning of the season but due to Hammies’ Community Cup fixtures at that time we were respectfully forced to arrange a date for the 2014 derby later in the season. We now find ourselves in a position where Hammies are top of the Super League A and Villager at the top of the Super League B which should make today even more interesting especially in our endeavours to get back into the top league. In conclusion I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our coaching, management staff and committee members for their tremendous contribution to attaining our goals and that is “playing rugby for the right reasons”. These cannot be achieved without all our players who have done so wonderfully well this season. Villager and all its members thank you for your effort and commitment. Message from the Sponsor Since involving ourselves with Villager in 2012 it has been an up and down ride with results on the field not quite coming to fruition (except for of late). However, as a community sponsorship, results are not the all important indicator for us as we realised that there has to be more to a club than purely the on field scores. With this in mind we have been delighted to witness and be a part of the various other areas where Villager has given back to their local community and sport in general. We have no doubt that the success of late has come from some the challenging obstacles and decisions that needed to be made and would like congratulate all involved in making what is happening at the moment a reality. We continue to support this ethos and are proud and happy sponsors of a developing club. We wish all teams on Saturday a great day out.
