HOME & GARDEN 35 EXTERIOR TRENDS Jake Lazell picks out a selection of items to transform your garden into an Edenic retreat this summer

Hello and welcome to the August edition of Vine. It has been an extremely exciting month here at Vine. Not only have we been celebrating the arrival of the little Prince George of Cambridge, we have also been celebrating another hugely successful Grapevine in the beautiful gardens of St.Clere Estate. We even had Anenomedia do some ariel filming for us! There is plenty to look forward to in this month’s edition. We have an in-depth feature on Sevenoaks’ annual literary festival (page 20). This month John Morrison interviews Carol Ann Duffy, poet laureate, who will be gracing our doorsteps in September. We have also reprinted one of her poems to give you a taste of what’s to come. Sencio are once again back to show us what classes and activities they have on offer this summer (page 26). We’ll make sure you keep fit while having fun this August. As a preliminary to our education special in September, we hear from Hazelwood School about their Senior Schools’ Fair and why it could benefit hundreds of pupils in and around Sevenoaks. We’re also launching a brand new feature this month – our regular ‘Vine and Dine’ food feature. Each month we’ll offer you new recipes, useful food gadgets and hot cooking tips. And to accompany this we have our summer Alfresco Dining article and Pub of the Month (page 17) that will be sure to your taste buds tingling. Until next time, have a fantastic August and enjoy your holidays!

Michael Fallon launches local job fair MP Michael Fallon has launched a job fair that will help local seekers find jobs in the area. The fair will offer help on hand to complete application forms and seminars will provide advice and tips for interviews. It will be attended by a range of sectors including public services, clerical, manufacturing, care and retail. Attendees will not only be able to improve the quality of their applications in the future, but they can also explore routes that they may not have previously considered, such as apprenticeships, updating their qualifications or becoming self-employed. The first fair will be on 3 September in Swanley at Alexandra Suite. For more information visit www. swanleyjobsfair.com.

EastEnders’ Heather sings for Sevenoaks charity Better known for her role as Heather Trott in EastEnders, actress Cheryl Fergison has won £10,000 for Sevenoaks’ chYps Children’s Hospice. Cheryl had to move out of her comfort zone to bag the money, belting out a powerful version of Dusty Springfield’s “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” on the first episode of ITV’s show Your Face Sounds Familiar. At the end of the show she acknowledged the good work of chYps: “The money will make a difference and it means everything to be able to create national awareness of chYps and the vital care they provide to very ill children.”

The Unfinished Monk With the help of Dr Jeremy Howard’s ten-year catalogue of research, Richard Pitcairn-Knowles has published the riveting tale of his late ancestor James Pitcairn-Knowles. Currently on sale in Sevenoaks Bookshop, The Unfinished Monk charts the turbulent and exciting life of James from the late 19th to the early 20th century. A former osteopath by trade and marathon runner in his spare time, Richard’s next exciting venture as a writer is set to flourish.

A triumph for British golf All hope has not been lost for British golfers after American Phil Mickelson beat off Brit Ian Poulter in The Open Championship at the end of July. At a cold and windy Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters, at Nizels Golf and Country Club, Matty Lamb (Hexham) and Mollie Lawrence (Rochester and Cobham) swung to victory ahead of golfers from as far away as Austria and Switzerland. On winning the Savills-sponsored event, Matty commented, “I’m used to the cold, wet and wind where I come from – it didn’t worry me at all!”

Dawn-to-dusk football marathon On 13 July, James Blyth and 15 colleagues from Cripps Harries Hall undertook a 12-hour football marathon, raising an impressive £2,312.67 for Hospice in the Weald. In 30˚C heat they played 15 individual teams, successfully winning five matches, losing eight and drawing two. Beth Swarbrigg, fundraising director for Hospice in the Weald, praised the team and notes how the money raised has continued to “allow them to focus on the quality of care for their patients”.

BROADER THAN BOTANICAL Elizabeth Smail’s vision for The Florum Art Exhibition was one of colour and celebration. A year after her death this philosophy is no different

T

he Florum Art Exhibition will once again be open to the public at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve from September 7-14 to showcase the work of over 60 artists. There will be a real sense of celebration this year as it marks the 10th Anniversary of Florum. Ten years on from its inception the artists continue to produce wonderful art that fits with Elizabeth’s ethos. There will be an array of art for sale that celebrates plant life in various creative forms. Mixing the traditional botanical

watercolours with a collection of freestyle mixed media paintings, etchings, prints and lovingly handmade jewellery is what makes this exhibition so innovative. Many of the 60 artists are of international renown, this year there are eight new exhibitors including local artists Marianne Cox and Sandra Fernandez along with Sandrine Maugy from Southampton. With so many talented artists it is guaranteed to be a stunning and truly memorable exhibition. Each year Florum has continued to become increasingly successful, which in turn allows an increasingly generous donation to be made to Kent Wildlife

Trust on its behalf. In the words of a previous visitor, “can this exhibition get any better?” It does every year. n The Florum Art Exhibition can be seen daily from September 7-14. Admission is free and the opening times are 10am-5pm. Visit www.florum.co.uk for more information

LEGAL MATTERS The team at Warners Solicitors offer regular expert advice on topics relevant to our everyday lives. This month Karen Cole advises on consumer rights

T

he summer sales are well underway and this year, with retailers slashing their prices, there are plenty of bargains up for grabs. For most (or at least most females), shopping is an enjoyable experience although sometimes choosing what to buy goes wrong, or a product fails to live up to your expectations. What then? Well, if this does happen you do have certain rights under legislation. So, before hitting the shops, arm yourself with more than just the plastic…know your legal rights. The Sale of Goods Act 1979 automatically gives basic rights to anyone who enters into a contract for the sale of goods. Goods must be ‘as described’ on any labels, signs or in any advert. If a pashmina is described as ‘100% cashmere’, it should not be made of polyester. They must be of ‘satisfactory quality’, taking into account any description, price or other relevant circumstances. A kettle should not leak after only one week’s use. Goods must also be ‘fit for normal purpose’ or any other purpose that you make known to the retailer at the time of purchase. This may be a tough one to argue if you’ve been using goods in an innovative fashion! Where the retailer does not abide by these obligations, you can return the goods and obtain a full refund. Some, although not all, retailers can be canny in the way in which they deal with a request for a refund. Let’s dispel some longstanding myths when it comes to the high street: •“I am entitled to a refund.” If an item is perfect a retailer is under no obligation to exchange it or

provide a refund – although they often do so as a goodwill gesture. • “You need a receipt.” A receipt is not a legal necessity. You just need to show proof of purchase. This can be done by way of a bank statement or credit card bill. • “You agreed to a repair.” If you agree to let the seller try to put faulty goods right, this does not affect your rights. If the repair fails, you can still reject the goods. However, if the fault has been pointed out to you before the purchase was made, you cannot later reject the goods based on that fault. • “You’ll have to complain to the manufacturer.” A retailer cannot avoid giving a refund by blaming the manufacturer – your contract is with him. Use the plastic if you’re spending over £100. Under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 the card provider is liable as well as the retailer. If the item is faulty, broken or doesn’t arrive and the item cost over £100, you can seek reimbursement from the card provider. This is invaluable if the retailer goes bust! Right, now there’s nothing left but to hit the shops and stock up on your summer wardrobe. By the way, if you buy any reduced items a retailer cannot legally state that there are ‘no returns on sale items’. Your consumer rights are not affected by a ‘sale’ sign; they remain exactly the same during the sales as at any other time of the year. Happy shopping! n For more information, please contact Karen Cole on 01732 375346, or email karen.cole@warners-solicitors. co.uk Follow Warners on Twitter @KentSolicitors

THE FINER DETAILS St Clere’s first-class catering partners have unparalleled experience in providing the finest menus, focusing on quality and delivering locally sourced, seasonal and sustainable ingredients. By having your wedding at St Clere estate, you’ll be provided with an exquisite and extensive range of starters, main courses and delicious desserts to choose from. Even better, all of the wine that is provided will have been carefully selected to marry perfectly with the food.

What’s more, the bride and groom will have the chance of free sessions with bespoke Kent wedding planners The Wedding Dolls, to help make their day look and feel magical. Rather than having to organise everything yourself and feeling stuck as to how you can make your big day personal to you, The Wedding Dolls planners will run you through absolutely everything. They’ll show you how to create a romantic setting, making use of the spacious lawns and elegant rooms, ensuring you are happy with every detail from the colour of your bouquet to the way you leave the reception, whether by helicopter, tractor or hot air balloon! And it truly would be special to be able to say that your ceremony was performed on the steps of St Clere’s

beautiful Orangery, surrounded by blossoming flowers and witnessed by guests from the serene lawn area just outside. And what better month to get married in than in July? Although the dining room provides the perfect space for guests as the weather turns a bit cooler, you can while away the balmy summer hours and celebrate under the cover of a grand marquee on the estate’s lush lawn; and how you deck the interior out is entirely up to you. Nothing looks quite as spectacular as when the light starts to fade and the guests file inside, as rows upon rows of twinkling lights, illuminated table centrepieces and dazzling floral displays coming to the fore. There truly is no other place in Kent that is as awe inspiring for a wedding as the St Clere Estate.

PAPERMAKER’S ARMS

T

he Papermaker’s Arms in Plaxtol has just been catapulted into global recognition by winning TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence. Putting it within the top 10 percent of businesses worldwide, the Papermaker’s warm welcome, great food and friendly atmosphere has certainly paid off. Graham Perrin, owner of the Papermaker’s, commented that they are “very proud” of this official recognition of their continuing hard work. When asked what he thought made the Papermaker’s stand out, he said that it is their unfailing commitment to “good service” and their policy of only serving “home-cooked food prepared on the premises and sourced locally.” While the good humour and welcoming nature of the staff never change, the menu of this gastro-pub is printed every day to

ensure that even regular diners will always have something new to sample. Their most popular dish is, surprisingly, their Thai Green Curry, but Graham’s personal favourite remains the classic Roast Rib of Beef, sourced locally in Ightham and served every Sunday. With a 95 percent approval rating on TripAdvisor and not a single bad review, the Papermaker’s has been hailed by diners as serving “one of the best meals in a long time” and “one of the most friendly welcomes we’ve ever had in a pub!”. A familyfriendly pub set in the heart of the Kentish countryside with a beautiful garden and outside seating area, it’s no wonder they’ve done so well.

VINE DINING

Vine takes a look at the sweetest food trends of this summer. From cream teas to alcoholic ice lollies, there’s something for the sweet tooth in all of us

LOCAL CHEF’S TOP TIP

THE SEAMLESS CREAM TEA Summertime and the living is easy, scones are baking and clotted cream is in the fridge. Here’s how to make your own perfect cream tea: 1. Preheat oven to 200˚C/gas mark 6. 2. Place 350g self-raising flour, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp baking power into a bowl and mix. Add 85g butter (cubed) and rub in with your fingers until the mix looks like fine crumbs. Stir in 3 tbsp caster sugar. 3. Warm 175ml milk, add 1 tsp of vanilla essence and a squeeze of lemon juice. 4. Make a well in the dry mix, add the liquid and combine quickly with a knife. Scatter some flour onto the work surface and tip the dough out. Flour your hands, fold the dough 2-3 times until it’s a little smoother, pat until it’s about 4cm deep. 5. Use a 5cm cutter and plunge into the dough. You will get roughly 8 from the dough. Brush the tops with beaten egg. Bake for 10mins until risen and golden on top. 6. Add generous amounts of a jam of your choice and clotted cream.

Food writer and stylist, Natalie Seldon, better known in Sevenoaks under the pseudonym Estella Cupcakes, has mastered the art of fashionable cooking. We picked our resident favourite cupcake designer’s brains for some top cooking tips: 1. Pre-rolled pastry: “a lot of people are scared of patisserie, specifically when working with pastry; this doesn’t mean it should be avoided. Always use pre-rolled, it tastes just as good and is much easier.” 2. Vanilla bean paste: “simpler than using vanilla bean pods, it also goes much further and stores well, helping you save your pennies.” n Natalie recommends Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Bean Paste, available online at www.nielsenmassey.com. You can find Natalie’s inspired recipes online at www.natalieseldonstyling.com and www.estellacupcakes.com

John Sampson and Carol Ann Duffy

‘SWIFTLY THROUGH THE EAR… SLOWLY THROUGH THE EYE’ Carol Ann Duffy gives Vine readers an exclusive preview of her event in Sevenoaks Q Can you give us a foretaste of what the audience can expect at your event in September? How do you and John Sampson work together? Do you like to move back and forth through your career as a poet, or do you prefer to concentrate on reading recent work and work in progress?

A John and I have worked together for 10 years now. Our performance is a poetry reading with wonderful musical interludes from John and occasionally he plays during a poem. The performances vary, for example there is a special Christmas show! I tend to read new work and work from earlier books...But I do like to vary the content.

Q Poems can be very private, or very public. Are there some poems that change their meaning when you read them in a large venue? Does some of the ambiguity of language get lost when a poem is heard rather than read off the page?

A I try to read the poem as though I am reading it aloud for the first time myself, regardless of audience size. Poems are most rewarding, I think, when read and re-read on the page; but a poetry reading offers a more immediate experience – entering swiftly through the ear rather than slowly through the eye. Both are important.

Q You have been Poet Laureate now since 2009. Has it changed your writing in ways you might not have expected? Do you have any particular goals you set yourself ? And if so, are you close to achieving them?

A It’s a joy and a privilege to be Poet Laureate, but I’ll be better placed to see how it’s affected my work in another six years. Apart from my own writing, my main impulse is to share the light around the role as much as possible with other poets. Of course, we have three women laureates in the UK, not one...

Q Should poetry cause trouble? A I don’t think the word ‘should’ is applicable to art. explores the less defined but equally fascinating subject of the English and their manners in Sorry! His talk will be at the Plaza Suite in The Stag Theatre. Crime and comedy will come together when Simon Brett, a uniquely talented writer and performer, entertains an audience in the Ship. Once a BBC producer in the golden age of broadcast comedy, he switched to writing crime fiction with a humorous twist and never looked back. He is best known as the creator of actor-detective Charles Paris. This year’s Samuel R Gardiner lecture, organised by Sevenoaks Historical Society, also takes place during the festival; the speaker is the distinguished historian Peter Hennessy, who will be talking about post-1945 Britain at St Nicholas’ Church. As is tradition, support from Sevenoaks Town Council will help give local children a chance to spend time with a visiting author. This year primary school children will get to meet Derek Smith and his musician daughter Lia Rees for a day of readings, music and workshops. V

HAZELWOOD SCHOOL’S SENIOR SCHOOLS’ FAIR Hazelwood School, in partnership with Pritchard Wealth Management, is delighted to invite all parents from Sevenoaks and the surrounding area to join them for this year’s Senior Schools’ Fair

Sevenoaks School

C

hoosing a Senior School for your child is a huge decision and one which no parent should take without first having done their research and considered the widest range of options available. Forward planning is key. So too is gathering the information early so you have time to consider the options with your child and to make the necessary provisions as you look ahead to your child’s future. Whether your child is in nursery, pre prep or prep, the Fair should be an essential destination on this exciting journey. Following on from a successful inaugural event two years ago, this year’s Senior Schools’ Fair is expected to be even bigger and better, with over 30 of the country’s most prestigious independent senior schools in attendance. In just two hours you will have the unique opportunity to talk to representatives from each of these schools to get a flavour of what each school is about, its ethos and strengths. Come along and find out about the curricular and extra-curricular activities they offer, pick up a prospectus and book yourselves onto a forthcoming Open Day. Most importantly discover what type of pupil thrives best under their care. That way you will be able to ensure that your child’s continuing education is a happy, challenging and fulfilling one. The Senior Schools’ Fair is open to all and takes place in Hazelwood School’s Sports Hall. Hazelwood School and Pritchard Wealth Management look forward to seeing you there. n For more details contact Nick Tappin (01883 733841) or visit www.hazelwoodschool.co.uk.

A WORD FROM THE HEAD

There are schools where the music provision is quite brilliant. There are schools for children who have the potential to play rugby for England and others for children who simply want to be part of a team and enjoy sport

A word from Maxine Shaw, the Head of Hazelwood School

Hazelwood School Senior Schools’ Fair

T

The Sports Hall, Hazelwood School, Oxted RH8 0QU

here are schools for very able children and for those who struggle. There are schools where the music provision is quite brilliant. There are schools for children who have the potential to play rugby for England and others for children who simply want to be part of a team and enjoy sport. “So how do you choose? Well a Schools’ Fair is an obvious starting point; under one roof you can meet representatives from nearly 30 independent schools. They will give you a flavour for their school, its aims and its ethos. What makes it different from those around them? Why might it be the right school for your child? It may open your ideas to possibilities that you hadn’t thought about and it may save you a wasted trip to visit a school which clearly isn’t going to be right for your child. My advice to parents who are looking for schools is this: • Talk to your child’s current Head and ask for an honest opinion about the next step for your child. • Attend senior school open days at your chosen schools. Then have a tour on a normal school day. Are the pupils happy and focused in their classes? • Talk to the Head of the schools you visit; if possible observe the way the pupils interact with them. • Don’t be scared to take a list of questions with you or to request a second visit to discuss any issues you may have. • Read the most recent inspection report. • Consider the schools’ academic results and their other achievements. • Look at the oldest pupils in the school. Do you want your son or daughter to have similar views and values at the end of their school years? • Find out about the school’s policy on discipline; does it match your views? • Talk to friends about their children’s experiences but do not be overly influenced by the views of others; remember you know your child better than anyone else. • Listen to your child’s view but don’t be overly swayed by it. A best friend heading to a particular school can be a powerful motivator. • Discuss the range of extra-curricular opportunities available. • Discuss the school’s provision for gifted and talented children and for those who need extra academic support. • Consider the way the school looks. Are the displays stimulating? Do they value the pupils’ work? Do the children look after the school buildings and grounds? • Listen to your heart as well as your head. Education is the gateway to life. If you get it right your child will thrive. They will enjoy school and develop a love of learning and a passion for knowledge. They will be encouraged to excel in the subjects where they show a talent. They will receive support and encouragement to allow them to succeed in the areas which are more of a challenge. If you get it wrong they will be disappointed by what is on offer, they may be frustrated by the lack of challenge or, even worse, overwhelmed by the enormity of it.”

Q: My trainer has recommended taking a course of shakes and supplements to lose weight. This seems like a good idea, what are your thoughts? Phoebe S, Sevenoaks Ok so this is a question I have been asked more than a dozen times in recent weeks. Let me tell you my thoughtsthe replacement of meals with shakes and pills is not a healthy or sustainable way to lose weight. They are, in short, multi-level marketing (or pyramid sales) schemes designed to get their brand ambassadors (your trainer) commission through sales. If your trainer is encouraging you to buy any of these products, they clearly have no regard for your long term health and, worse still, they have no idea about nutrition! I’m not one to bash trainers without providing a solution, so let me explain why:

studies! Find me a study (which isnt funded by the company) that demonstrates its value to your health. I bet you can’t. Solution - If you are thinking of using any supplement, speak to an expert or do your due diligence and read some peer-reviewed evidence first. Problem 3 It’s expensive. I get it; eating healthily can be costly at times, but the brand ambassadors of these products don’t even have an RRP for their shakes and pills etc. This means they can pretty much make up their prices! One website I visited said “a brand ambassador will be in touch about your new business opportunity”! I didn’t even ask for one. Solution - Buy, cook and prepare your meals in bulk, saving you time and money throughout the week.

Problem 1

Problem 4

The products these companies sell are not good for your overall health. You only need to look at their ingredients to see why. For example, a protein mix from one of these companies contains 58 different ingredients, most of which we would struggle to pronounce!

You have friends that have used it and have lost weight. I’m not saying that these products won’t help you lose weight initially, but the weight loss you experience is purely down to calorie restriction. If I told you to eat 5 almonds a day you would lose even more weight but would it be safe?

Solution - Try to limit the ingredients in your meals to below eight (less if possible). Stick to foods that have not been modified e.g. grilled lean meats, steamed vegetables etc. Problem 2 Although these companies’ websites are crammed full of testimonials, there is no real scientific evidence of their effects. One company in particular has an ‘Our Science’ page that has zero mention of any scientific

Solution - Embark on a long term weight loss solution that encourages the consumption of healthy whole foods alongside a well-structured exercise programme. With its winning combination of exercise and social interaction, golf is the perfect tonic for good health and happiness

I

t doesn’t matter if you’ve never played golf or haven’t picked up a club since your school days or an almostforgotten holiday. You can get started by taking advantage of the low-cost beginner classes on offer across Kent. Indeed, golf is a great game whatever your

age, background or ability. But as well as having fun in the fresh air, playing golf also brings some impressive health and wellbeing benefits that can help you look and feel at your best. Research now shows that this increasingly popular sport is actually a powerhouse of all the core ingredients that doctors recommend for optimum physical and mental health and wellbeing. Here’s how…

Golf is a great way to meet new people and make friends

IT’S BETTER THAN A FAST AND FURIOUS GYM SESSION Research shows that walking around the golf course for a few hours is healthier than an intense session at the gym. Being outside in the fresh air is the perfect way to relax

IT KEEPS YOU HEALTHY Playing a full 18 holes burns up to 900 calories as well as working out your heart and lungs.

IT HELPS COMBAT STRESS Playing in the fresh air and green spaces can help reduce your stress levels. You’ll receive a basic introduction to golf from PGA professionals, together with information about club membership

and follow-on coaching opportunities. Equipment will be provided so all you have to do is turn up on the day in comfortable clothing. The Get into Golf campaign, supported by Sport England and funded by the National Lottery, is now making the game more affordable and welcoming than ever before. n To find a centre near you visit getintogolf.org/kent or call 0800 118 2766. The Chequers Inn has been providing food and entertainment since the 16th Century. Not only do we serve great food in our large, family-friendly garden, we also host events such as our recent charity event Chequers Fest. What would you recommend we sample from your menu? We offer many pub classics but we are also more experimental with our dishes, so you can expect to see duck and orange paté to start, then chargrilled swordfish steak for main. As a pub, your drinks menu is obviously as, if not more, important than your food menu… From a small glass of wine to a bottle, we have an exotic selection of wines to accompany our extensive range of seasonal beers and ales. A giant of a pantomime for Christmas 2013! This year the Assembly Hall Theatre pantomime will star much loved actor, TV star and Waterloo Road’s Grantley Budgen, Philip Martin Brown and Hi-5 presenter Luke Roberts plus the lovable Sarah Jane Buckley in an unmissable family spectacular. Comedian and actor Noel Brodie will play Simple Simon and completing this year’s line-up is Stephen David who will be on hand as the hilariously over the top Dame Trott. Brought to you by the same team behind Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Aladdin and Peter Pan, Jack and the Beanstalk will take you high above the clouds on a magical journey to Neverland. A familiar face on TV, Philip Martin Brown will be stepping into the role of Fleshcreep. Best known for his role as Grantly Budgen in the television series Waterloo Road, he has also appeared in The Professionals and has made many appearances in numerous British dramas including Heartbeat, Midsomer Murders, New Tricks and Doctors. He is currently filming a new three-part drama, Death Comes to Pemberley, at Harewood House in Leeds, to be aired on BBC One this Christmas.

Comedian Noel Brodie, known for his appearances in Live From Jethros, Laugh A Minute and The Big Laugh Show will play the loveable Simple Simon and Stephen David, as Dame Trott, will add to the mayhem as she attempts to keep control of her adventure loving son. Needless to say madness and mayhem ensues! Featuring a larger than life beanstalk and one very mean giant at the top of it, this classic tale will be brought to life in the Assembly Hall Theatres’ biggest pantomime yet! Producer Martin Dodd of UK Productions says: “We are delighted to bring together a super talented cast for this year’s Assembly Hall Pantomime. They are all seasoned pantomime performers and together with the terrific tale of Jack’s adventurous quest we can guarantee you plenty of giant laughs.” Theatre Director of the Assembly Hall Theatre Brian McAteer says: “Over the past few years, together with UK Productions, we have staged Tunbridge Wells’ biggest and most spectacular pantomimes and I can promise that Jack and the Beanstalk will be another giant and unmissable show!”

Joining Philip as Jack will be Luke Roberts, presenter of CITV and Cartoonito’s hit television show Hi-5. He is also a singer and has supported bands such as LibertyX, Blazin’ Squad and Simon Webb on tour. No stranger to pantomime, Luke has received rave reviews playing the title roles in Aladdin and Dick Whittington and last year as Prince Frederick, in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with Lucy Benjamin in Basingstoke.

Staged by UK Productions, one of the country’s biggest musical theatre and pantomime producers, and the company behind last year’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Jack and the Beanstalk is the Christmas show you don’t want to miss.

Sarah Jane Buckley will be playing the role of the Fairy of the Forest. She is best known for her former role as Kathy Barnes in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, and as the iconic singer Eva Cassidy in Over The Rainbow – The Eva Cassidy Story. She also played Mrs Darling and The Mermaid in the Assembly Hall Theatre’s pantomime Peter Pan in 2010.
