In September 2009, Vineyard Columbus launched a new experiment on Columbus’s northwest side. Sawmill Campus was the first of four campuses added by Vineyard Columbus within a few years. We’re now one church meeting in different locations around the city. Sawmill began meeting at Davis Middle School as a portable church. Every week, committed volunteers would gather hours before the service to unload trailers and transform a middle school gym into a place of worship every Sunday morning (shout out to our Lane Avenue campus for your faithfulness in the portable context!). In those early years, our children’s ministry met in the school hallways because we didn’t have access to classrooms. Our student ministry bounced around from room to room. Within a few years, we outgrew this space and moved to our first permanent location at Dublin Village Center. But even there, we rented space from the preschool next door for kids ministry. So, week after week, faithful volunteers continued to set up and tear down our children’s ministry area. In our auditorium, we had moveable walls that people would move during service because they didn’t want to walk around them. I sometimes chuckled to myself, “why do people keep showing up?!” Two years ago, we made the move to our current Tuller Road space and have continued to experience growth and momentum. The “experiment” has worked. As I reflect back over the past ten years and look forward to the next ten, I want to share two reasons Sawmill is thriving. First, we have worked to spread the vision and values of Vineyard Columbus into our local neighborhoods. For more than three decades, Vineyard Columbus has had a faithful and unique witness in Central Ohio. We’ve seen individuals and

families transformed by the grace of Jesus Christ and grow in their faith. We are a diverse community of believers and a church that is known for how we serve and care for all people. Regardless of where we meet for weekly services, our desire has been to expand the mission of Vineyard Columbus into a different location of our city. What started with around 150 people meeting on Sunday mornings in the gym at Davis Middle School has grown to more than 550 people gathering each weekend. But we haven’t just grown in numbers. Our faith has taken us beyond the walls of our building. We’ve formed partnerships with local schools and provided care and assistance to families. We’ve had the joy of seeing many immigrants and refugees enter ESL classes on Tuesday evenings as beginners and progress through the advanced classes. Last month, we launched a new initiative called Mobilize Dublin. We partnered with a local business to throw “a party with a purpose.” We invited our community

than $1000 for an emergency fund for families at the school. These are just some of the ways we partner with Christ to heal the world.
Sawmill flourishes because of the many individuals and families who have faithfully watered and planted for a decade. If I tried to list them by name I’d get in trouble because there

years, we say a HUGE thank you. To those who serve week in and week out to make our church family feel like a family, we are deeply grateful for your investment. You make our campus a place where people want to belong. The Sawmill Campus “experiment” has flourished and our community is flourishing because of our presence on the northwest side of Columbus. In 2009, our hope was that Sawmill Campus would be a place where people could belong, and would encounter the love, grace, and power of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and where our community would be a better place because of our presence. It’s been a fun journey, and the journey has only just begun for Sawmill and for our entire church. Start praying now about how you can be part of the exciting adventure of our future campuses!
